Open’er Festival 2026 runs from 1 to 4 July in Gdynia-Kosakowo, on Poland’s Baltic coast. 23rd edition, 130,000–140,000 festival-goers over four days. The line-up features Florence + The Machine, The Cure, Jennie (BLACKPINK), Calvin Harris, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and The xx across four stages. 4-day pass: from EUR 271. Free shuttle from Gdynia Główna station, included with the festival ticket. Book tickets and accommodation now — availability is running out fast.
In 2026, Gdynia turns 100. And the festival that gave this Baltic city its international reputation is delivering one of the strongest line-ups in its history. Open’er Festival — four days on a former military airfield by the Baltic Sea — has spent two decades building its reputation as one of central Europe’s benchmark events. Four-time winner of Best Major Festival at the European Festival Awards, it regularly overtakes Roskilde and Primavera Sound in audience votes. In July 2026, it brings Florence + The Machine’s long-awaited stage return after surgery, K-pop’s first-ever Open’er headline slot with Jennie, and The Cure fresh off a legendary post-Primavera Sound summer run. This guide covers everything you need before you go: the day-by-day programme, tickets, accommodation, getting there from London, and the highlights of a city that deserves as much attention as the festival itself.
23 years of history, four-time best festival in Europe

A festival born in Warsaw, rooted in Gdynia
Open’er Festival was founded in 2002 by Alter Art, Poland’s largest independent concert promoter. Its first edition was held in Warsaw with The Chemical Brothers headlining. The festival moved to Gdynia in 2003, and settled on the Babie Doły military airfield in Gdynia-Kosakowo in 2006 — where it has been held ever since. According to Euronews, its fourth Best Major Festival title at the European Festival Awards in 2024 came with over 300,000 public votes each edition. « It’s a very special moment. For continental Europe, this is absolutely the main award, » said Alter Art CEO Mikołaj Ziółkowski in January 2025.

Gdynia in 2026: a centenary city with a UNESCO bid in progress

A city built from scratch in under a decade
Gdynia is not Gdańsk — and that’s the most common mistake festival-goers make when booking their flights. The two cities are separate, 30 km apart, connected by the SKM rapid train (35 minutes). Gdańsk is the great Hanseatic city with its reconstructed old town and medieval history. Gdynia was built from scratch after the First World War, when Poland regained its access to the Baltic Sea through the Treaty of Versailles. According to 100.gdynia.pl, the city officially received its municipal rights on 10 February 1926, making 2026 its exact centenary year. The Polish Senate has designated this « The Year of the City of Gdynia ».
What makes Gdynia exceptional in 2026 goes beyond symbolism: its modernist city centre from 1926–1939, unique in the world for its functionalist coherence, is Poland’s official candidate for UNESCO World Heritage status. The decision is expected at the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee in Busan (South Korea) in July 2026 — during the festival itself.
Things to see between shows
- ORP Błyskawica: a Second World War destroyer and the oldest Allied warship preserved intact. Ticket: 30 PLN. Open Tuesday–Sunday 10:00–18:00
- Emigration Museum (1933 building): 200 years of Polish emigration history, recognised by Gault & Millau as a reference cultural venue
- Modernist walking routes: three self-guided walks (1–2 hours) through the centre, past « ocean liner » facades from the 1930s
- Trójmiasto day trips: Sopot (15 min by SKM, Europe’s longest pier at 515 m) and Gdańsk (35 min) are easy morning trips before the shows start
Camping, glamping, hotel: all your accommodation options

Five ways to sleep during Open’er
According to opener.pl, camping opens on 30 June at 12:00 and closes on 5 July at 14:00. It’s by far the most popular option among regulars — and the most cost-effective when you factor in transport back to the city each evening.
| Option | Price (2026) | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 4-day pass + camping | 1,419 PLN (~EUR 335) | Budget festival-goers, communal atmosphere |
| 4-day pass without camping | 1,149 PLN (~EUR 271) | Hotel in Gdynia or private apartment |
| 1-day pass | 549 PLN (~EUR 130) | One specific evening |
| Glamping (2 persons) | 4,950 PLN (~EUR 1,167) | Maximum comfort on site |
| SleepHuts (1–4 persons) | 3,950 PLN (~EUR 931) | Individual cabins (sold out 2026) |
| Hotel in Gdynia (e.g. Hotel Nadmorski) | EUR 80–120/night | Comfort + city access |
Reference exchange rate: 1 EUR = 4.24 PLN (source: foreignexchange.org.uk, 8 June 2026)
What regulars recommend
- Arrive on 30 June as soon as camping opens to avoid queues on day one
- Set a physical meeting point — mobile networks saturate on site
- A power bank is essential (charging stations available but often busy)
- Wellington boots and a warm layer for evenings (~14 °C at night)
Flights, trains and shuttles: getting to Gdynia from London

Gdańsk Airport (GDN) — your entry point
The closest airport to the festival is Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport (IATA: GDN), around 25 km from the site. From London, there are excellent direct connections: Ryanair operates non-stop flights from London Gatwick (LGW) and London Stansted (STN), Wizz Air from London Luton (LTN), and Jet2 from Gatwick — all with a flight time of around 2 hours 20 minutes. To compare fares and find the best booking windows, use Aviasales; return fares from London to Gdańsk typically range from £22 to £130 depending on how early you book.
From the airport to the festival (step by step)
- PKM train: GDN Airport → Gdynia Główna in ~28 minutes, one departure per hour, 9–18 PLN (~EUR 2–4) — the simplest option
- Open’er Line shuttle (free): Gdynia Główna → festival entrance. Included with the festival ticket. Runs 30 June 11:30 to 5 July 14:00
- Taxi/Uber: airport → Gdynia in 30–45 minutes, 80–120 PLN (~EUR 19–28)
- From Gdańsk: SKM Gdańsk Główny → Gdynia Główna in ~35 minutes, departures every 10–15 minutes
Kashubian food culture and Open’er’s green credentials

A food culture most visitors overlook
The Gdynia region is home to the Kashubians — a Slavic people with their own officially recognised regional language (unique in Poland, enshrined in law in 2005). Their cuisine, largely unknown to general guidebooks, celebrates herring in all its forms, fish soup with buckwheat, duck with red berries and sourdough rye bread. According to National Geographic, the food scene in the Gdynia area has been undergoing a remarkable revival since 2020.
On the festival site, around 80% of stalls offer vegan or vegetarian options. Open’er strictly bans plastic and polystyrene packaging from all its food vendors. Prices are reasonable: beer from 5–20 PLN (£0.95–£3.75), a vegan wrap around 40 PLN (~£7.50). Free drinking water fountains are dotted across the site.
Restaurants in Gdynia (for days before or after the festival)
- Biały Królik: seasonal Kashubian plant-based cuisine, chef Marcin Popielarz (trained in London and Oslo)
- Stuczka: recommended by Gault & Millau, Gdynia’s top table
- Bar Mleczny Domowy: a proper Polish milk bar, full meal for under 30 PLN (~£5.65)
What the regulars won’t tell you in the official guides

The good and the less good
TripAdvisor reviews and Clash Magazine reports describe Open’er as « probably the best festival in Europe, with excellent line-ups that attract visitors from all over the world. » Its international atmosphere — with large contingents from the UK, Germany and Scandinavia — and exceptional main stage sound quality are consistently praised.
What works brilliantly
- Free shuttles from Gdynia Główna station
- Well-organised camping: hot showers, on-site shop, morning yoga, meditation sessions
- Safety shelters available since 2022 for harassment victims
- Official Open’er ’26 app (notifications, timetables, site map)
Things worth planning around
- In 2022, a severe storm forced the cancellation of Dua Lipa and Megan Thee Stallion on the opening night. The evacuation was criticised for poor coordination, and no refunds were issued (only credit for the following year). Dua Lipa returned in 2024 for a triumphant set
- Density described as « almost unbearable » in front of the main stage during headline sets — get there early if you want to be close
- Shuttle services can be disorganised during peak exit times (late evening)
