Eight experiences on Lake Garda, only one of them leaving from Verona, from €29.50 to €217.50 per person for two adults. From November 19 to January 17, five are closed; the Isola del Garda boat tour stays open.

Checked against the Viator partner API (prices, availability and combined Viator + TripAdvisor rating).

Verona is only about fifteen minutes by train from the southern shore of Lake Garda. From Porta Nuova station, Peschiera del Garda takes about 14 minutes on average, and Desenzano about twenty. Once there, the lake reveals itself in three ways: from the water, among the vineyards, or in the kitchen.

I selected eight experiences from the Viator catalog. All of them show a combined rating (Viator and TripAdvisor) of at least 4.78 and at least 125 reviews. The selection was sorted on that combined rating, with no quota by type of experience: the list includes three wine tastings, two private cruises, a cooking class, a full-day trip from Verona and a sunset walk. If you can book only one in winter, take the boat tour of Isola del Garda: it is the only one on the list open every day of the winter window checked, at €217.50 per person for two adults.

One point of caution before going on. You might look for Malcesine on this list, on the east shore of the lake. None of the eight experiences leaves from Malcesine or Riva del Garda: they cover the Sirmione peninsula, the Lazise shore, Isola del Garda and the departure from Verona. Malcesine remains a useful reference for understanding the lake, and bus line 484 serves it from Garda, but no booking in this guide goes that way.

Season matters more than budget. Between November 19, 2026 and January 17, 2027, five of the eight experiences have no bookable date: the cooking class, the sunset cruise, the Lazise tasting, the day trip from Verona and the Sirmione walk. The June-July 2027 check shows them open, in whole or in part, when winter closes them. The comparison table shows, experience by experience, what the check found.

The rest follows the same logic: the context of the lake, the table, the details of each experience with its angle, how to get there from Verona, practical tips and a FAQ.

Why Lake Garda From Verona: The Pixidia Angle

The southern shore holds most of the experiences on this list: the Sirmione peninsula, the Lazise coast and the Lugana vineyards, around Sirmione, Desenzano and Peschiera. Verona remains the simplest base, because the train serves these shores in 14 to 23 minutes depending on the station. Rail Europe gives an average of 14 minutes to Peschiera, and Trainline lists about 23 minutes to Desenzano.

The Sirmione peninsula is home to the Scaliger castle, whose opening hours vary depending on the source consulted: the official Lombardy page remains the reference to check before any trip, Musei Lombardia. The sunset cruise from Sirmione circles the peninsula. According to the listing, the Isola del Garda visit passes the ancient Roman grottoes known as Catullus’s Caves.

Wine is the other reason to come. Lugana DOC is produced around Sirmione, Desenzano and Peschiera. Bardolino, Chiaretto (its rosé) and Custoza feature in the Colà tasting, and Chiaretto in the Lazise one. Three of the eight experiences are tastings, and they cover these appellations.

The lake can also be seen from the water, with the cruises on this list. They run on their own schedules, from a port or a local estate. Navigazione Laghi’s ferries follow seasonal timetables, with a reduced winter schedule for which I did not find the 2026-2027 version: the question is covered at the end of this article.

The catch is the season. From November to January, most of these experiences are closed, and the Colà estate opens only on a few dates. My advice: keep the winter window for the Isola del Garda boat tour and the Lugana visit, which is open 43 days out of 60 in the check, and save the rest for warmer months, confirming each listing.

Prices and availability checked on the Viator partner API on November 5, 2026 for the period November 19, 2026 to January 17, 2027; they may change. « Closed in the window » means no date was bookable in this period, not that the experience does not exist: it is seasonal. The rating is combined: it aggregates Viator and TripAdvisor. On the Viator listing alone, some ratings differ: 5.0 (128 reviews) for the cooking class, 4.4 (13 reviews) for the Isola del Garda boat tour, 4.2 (24 reviews) for the day trip from Verona.

1. Fresh pasta and tiramisu cooking class on the lake

Viator rating 5.0 out of 5 (128 reviews) Combined Viator + TripAdvisor: 4.99 (357 reviews) 3 h Manual confirmation Closed Nov 19 to Jan 17

The highest combined rating in this selection: 4.99 from 357 reviews, Viator and TripAdvisor combined. On the Viator listing alone, the class shows 5.0 from 128 reviews. For three hours you shape fresh pasta by hand, then eat it, paired with local wines. Still water, the mocha coffee at the end of the meal, the apron and the equipment are provided. The menu changes by day: long pasta on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, short pasta on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. It suits a half-day that ends at the table. The catch is twofold. The class is closed from November 19 to January 17, and confirmation is not instant: request your date early, choosing the menu day that suits you. The meeting point is near the bus stop on the main road. The listing does not name the town: the exact address comes with the confirmation.

It is the only experience on the list open every day of the winter window: 60 days out of 60, from November 19 to January 17. An hour and a half on a private boat with a guide, and a bottle of prosecco on board. The tour circles Isola del Garda and passes the villa of Maria Callas, the Rocca di Manerba and the ancient Roman grottoes known as Catullus’s Caves. For two adults, the boat costs €435, or €217.50 per person. The departure point, according to the title, is Punta San Vigilio: confirm the exact meeting point when you book. On the Viator listing alone, the rating is 4.4 from 13 reviews; the 4.95 shown is a combined Viator and TripAdvisor rating. It is the choice for time on the water that holds up in deep winter. The price is the highest among the experiences open in winter: it is the price of a private boat, not of a seat.

Lugana DOC is produced here, on the southern shore, around Sirmione. The visit lasts an hour and a half, in private: a walk through the vines, a visit to the underground cellar, then a tasting with food. At €29.50 per person for two adults, it is the lowest price among the experiences open in winter, and the visit is open 43 days out of 60 in the window checked. The meeting point is at the entrance to the cellar, in Sirmione. Confirmation is not instant: wait for the reply before blocking your morning. Among the vines you have to walk, and the listing gives no accessibility information: ask the estate if a person with reduced mobility is coming with you.

A family estate in Colà di Lazise, with vineyards and a cellar. The guided tasting covers six to eight wines, Bardolino, Chiaretto and Custoza, served with cold cuts, cheeses and bread. Allow about two hours. What sets it apart: the three appellations named in the listing. The meeting point is at the Bergamini cellar, where parking in front is free. It is offered with instant confirmation, but the product opens only on certain dates: eight days out of sixty in the window checked, and the dates found fall in December and January. Do not block your day without checking the date, and keep a second option in reserve.

Forty-five minutes on a private boat around the Sirmione peninsula, as the light grazes the castle stone. The captain, taxes and a bottle of prosecco are included. Departure is from the small harbor of Piazzale Porto, facing the castle. It suits a couple or a small group that wants a boat to itself, without sharing the trip with others. The product is closed from November 19 to January 17: book it for the warmer season, since its winter price was not checked. Check the sunset time for your chosen date before confirming your slot.

A farm in Lazise, with vineyards, and at least six wines served with cold cuts, cheeses, bruschetta and olive oil. The tasting lasts about two hours. It takes place among the vines and feels more like a meal than a cellar visit. Lazise is served from Verona by bus lines 163 and 164, year-round. The catch is the season: the listing is closed from November 19 to January 17.

This is the only experience on the list that leaves from Verona. The meeting point is Piazza Bra, near the Vittorio Emanuele II monument, where the guide holds a sign reading « LAKE GARDA & SPRITZ TOUR ». The transfer to Sirmione is by air-conditioned vehicle, then comes a private boat cruise with a spritz tasting on board. Five hours for a full day. The listing includes the host, the private boat, the spritz tasting, the air-conditioned vehicle and audio headsets from 7 people. The arena entrance, Juliet’s House, the Catullus caves and lunch are not part of what the listing includes: check the listing before booking. The product is closed from November 19 to January 17. For the warmer season, the trip remains valid: at the June-July 2027 check it was open 61 days out of 61.

A walk through Sirmione in the golden hour, with no boat. Forty-five minutes on foot, with a glass of prosecco. The prosecco is the only inclusion in the listing. It suits anyone who wants neither a boat nor a private tour, and it fits easily into an evening if you have limited time on site. The listing is closed from November 19 to January 17. Do not plan the castle visit straight after without checking its hours: sources disagree, and the reference remains the official Lombard site.

Getting There From Verona

Train: 14 to 23 minutes to the southern shore

Regional trains and Italo from Porta Nuova station. Allow about 14 minutes to Peschiera del Garda and 23 minutes to Desenzano, according to averages published by transport sites. Times change on weekends and public holidays: check the app the day before. Fares vary by ticket and class and are not covered in this guide.

Bus: line LN026 runs year-round

According to Gardavisit, Arriva line LN026 links Verona, Peschiera, Desenzano and Sirmione year-round. In peak season it stops at Colombare and a shuttle connects to central Sirmione. Out of season, it serves the old town directly. Lines 163 and 164 link Lazise to Verona, also year-round.

Boats: departures from local ports

The cruises and private tours on this list do not run on the regular Navigazione Laghi network. They leave from a local port or estate: the small harbor of Sirmione for the sunset cruise, and Punta San Vigilio, per the title, for the Isola tour. Confirm the departure point with the provider when you book.

Practical Tips On Site

For a day between November and January, the simplest plan has three steps. Take a morning train from Verona Porta Nuova to Desenzano or Peschiera, then bus LN026 to Sirmione: out of season, it serves the old town directly. Keep the afternoon for the Lugana vineyard visit, which takes place in Sirmione. The Isola del Garda boat tour, open every day of the window, can go on another day, on the date that suits you, with a departure point to confirm when you book.

For two adults, the budget comes down to three items. The experience first: from €29.50 per person for the Lugana visit to €217.50 for the Isola boat tour. Among the experiences open in the winter window, the tastings are the cheapest. Then the train, whose fares are not covered here: check them at the ticket office or on the app. Finally, admission fees. A combined ticket circulates with conflicting amounts: do not budget it without checking.

Three Mistakes to Avoid

  • Expecting the Isola meeting point from the title alone: Punta San Vigilio comes from the product title, with no address in the API. Confirm the exact location when you book.
  • Looking for the Lazise tasting address before you leave: the listing says « Lazise, at the farm » and gives the exact address only with the confirmation.
  • Looking for a November date for the Colà tasting: it opens only 8 days out of 60 in the window, and the dates found fall only in December and January.

Depending on Your Profile

As a couple, the most coherent winter combination is the Isola del Garda boat tour, followed by the Lugana visit in Sirmione. On a tight budget, the Colà tasting and the Lugana visit remain the lowest prices among the experiences open. For a family, check the minimum age on each listing before booking. For a person with reduced mobility, most visits involve walking among the vines or along the quays, and no listing gives accessibility information: ask the provider before booking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which experience has the highest combined rating in this list?

The cooking class on the lake has the highest combined rating in this list: 4.99 from 357 reviews (Viator and TripAdvisor combined), but it is closed in winter and its confirmation is manual. For winter, the Isola del Garda boat tour, at 4.95 combined from 428 reviews, is the one open every day of the window checked. Both listings detail the meeting point. Cooking class and boat tour.

Can you take these experiences in November, December or January?

Three of them open in the window. The Isola del Garda boat tour is open every day of the window checked, from November 19, 2026 to January 17, 2027. The Lugana vineyard visit is open 43 days out of 60, and the Colà tasting only 8 days out of 60, with dates found in December and January. The other five are closed for the whole window. Do not book them for winter, and check the date on the listing before you block your day.

Should you take the train or the bus from Verona?

For Peschiera and Desenzano, the train is simplest. Rail Europe gives an average of 14 minutes to Peschiera, and Trainline lists about 23 minutes to Desenzano. For Sirmione, bus line LN026 runs year-round according to Gardavisit: out of season it serves the old town directly, and in peak season it stops at Colombare, with a shuttle. Times change on weekends and public holidays: check the day before.

Why does the rating in this guide differ from the Viator listing?

The rating in this guide is combined: it aggregates Viator and TripAdvisor. On the Viator listing alone, some experiences show a different rating and fewer reviews: the cooking class is 5.0 from 128 reviews, the Isola del Garda boat tour 4.4 from 13 reviews, and the day trip from Verona 4.2 from 24 reviews. Read the most recent reviews on the listing before booking, then compare with the figure in the table.

Is Malcesine part of the experiences?

No. None of the eight experiences leaves from Malcesine or Riva del Garda. The east shore of the lake is still reachable by bus line 484, which links Garda, Torri, Brenzone and Malcesine year-round, but that trip is not included in any booking in this guide. If the east shore interests you, plan it separately, starting from Garda.

Do the boats run in winter?

Navigazione Laghi publishes spring and summer timetables, plus a reduced winter timetable, but I did not find its 2026-2027 version. The sources consulted disagree: one online source mentions a reduced service, another text keeps only the Torri-Maderno vehicle crossing out of season. Do not count on a scheduled crossing between November and January. The private cruises on this list run on their own schedules from a local port, and the Isola del Garda boat tour is open every day of the window checked.
