On 31 December 2026, the Brandenburg Gate party has no published programme yet. In 2025/26 it was free with a ticket, with fireworks at midnight. An indoor party is easier to book: from €43.72 (Kulturbrauerei), or €29.35 for over-30s (Haus Ungarn, partly outdoors).

Checked on against the official sources cited (berlin.de, visitBerlin, BVG, Berlin police) and the press cited.

New Year’s Eve in Berlin this year comes with some uncertainty. The date is safe, but the Brandenburg Gate party is not confirmed yet. This guide separates what the official sources confirm, what comes from the press, and what carries over from last year. It then gives you what you need to plan the night of 31 December without relying on a programme that doesn’t exist yet.

Thursday 31 December 2026, a safe date

Thursday 31 December 2026 Free with a ticket (2025/26) 2026/27 programme not published Weather: no forecast yet

The calendar date is not in doubt: berlin.de and visitBerlin both list Thursday 31 December 2026 for the Brandenburg Gate party, with a start time of 8 pm on visitBerlin. 31 December is not a public holiday in Berlin, unlike 1 January (in-berlin-brandenburg.com, public holidays 2026, checked on 6 November 2026).

The party itself is a different matter. The berlin.de event page says « Date not yet confirmed » and notes that it is not yet known whether the party will take place in 2026. It was last changed on 13 May 2026. The Berliner Kurier, dated 16 September 2026, reports instead that the Senate Chancellery confirmed to it an open-air party, with fireworks, DJs and « thousands » of visitors. No official city announcement about the 2026/27 edition had been found at the time of checking. So this is press reporting, not an institutional confirmation.

  • Calendar date: Thursday 31 December 2026, confirmed by berlin.de and visitBerlin.
  • Brandenburg Gate party: favourable press coverage, programme and entry rules not published.
  • 2025/26 edition: detailed by the city, so use it as a reference, not as a rule.
Pixidia tip: don’t book a train or a hotel around this party without rereading the berlin.de page the week you travel. The entry conditions aren’t known yet.

If the main party is slow to be confirmed, an indoor night is the simplest thing to book without relying on the programme at the square. The offer below is a Viator listing titled « Berlin Club Culture », with two start times on 31 December 2026, 8 pm and 10:10 pm, checked on 6 November 2026. Read the full description on Viator before you book, to see what is included.

2. The Brandenburg Gate party: what the 2025/26 edition did

The 2025/26 edition is still the most detailed reference. The authorities published start times, a ticket count and safety rules. The table below separates what was published last year from what is still missing for 2026/27.

The context matters when you read an announcement. In 2025, the historic organiser cancelled its show for lack of funding, and the Senate refused public money for that show (ZDFheute, 30 July 2025). The 2025/26 party was funded by the Senate Chancellery and the Economic Administration, at €100,000 each according to the Berliner Kurier. A group tried to stop the party, without success: the Berlin administrative court rejected its application on 15 December 2025. The 2026/27 funding is not published as of the check, and that funding decides the format.

In practice, if an announcement mentions paid entry on Pariser Platz, or a 2025 act as this year’s line-up, check the source before you buy anything. The reference format is still last year’s, free with a ticket, but it isn’t guaranteed for this year.

3. New Year’s Eve fireworks: what the rules allow

Rockets and bangers: a federal framework and local zones

Private use: 31 December and 1 January Age 18 and over Zones set by police District orders

In Germany, private individuals may only set off fireworks on 31 December and 1 January, and only from the age of 18 (berlin.de, dpa, 8 December 2025). That federal framework is stable. What changes from year to year is the local perimeter: Berlin sets zones each year where bangers and rockets are banned, and some boroughs issue wider orders.

In 2025/26, the fireworks zone ran from 6 pm on 31 December to 6 am on 1 January. It covered Alexanderplatz, the Steinmetz quarter in Schöneberg, part of Sonnenallee and the Admiralbrücke. Within those zones, categories F2 to F4 were banned, and only F1, the small fireworks, remained allowed (Police report 2624, 23 December 2025). For 2026/27, no zones or orders have been published as of the check.

  • 2025/26 fireworks zone: F2, F3 and F4 banned, F1 allowed.
  • 2025/26 knife and weapon zone: Brandenburg Gate, Straße des 17. Juni, Großer Stern, Tiergarten, Hansaviertel and the government quarter.
  • 2025/26 rule: private fireworks banned within the perimeter of the Brandenburg Gate party.
Pixidia tip: if you plan to buy fireworks, check your neighbourhood’s rule the same week. The 2026/27 map doesn’t exist yet, and a zone can cover your street before its boundaries are known in advance.

The national debate continues. A Berlin plan to ban private fireworks inside the S-Bahn ring was raised for 2026/27, but no decision had been published as of the check. A BerlinTrend poll from late November 2025, cited by the press, found 75% of Berliners in favour of a ban on private fireworks, without changing the rules in force for now. Keep to the current framework: no wider ban is in force at the time of writing.

4. Transport and traffic: the afternoon trap

Metro all night, but not everywhere or at any hour

U-Bahn all night (2025/26) U5: no stop from 4 pm Straße des 17. Juni closed to cars

In 2025/26, BVG announced a metro running all night, with a train every 5 minutes until about 5 pm, except on the U4, then every 10 minutes. Trams and buses ran on their Saturday timetable (BVG, press release of 23 December 2025).

The trap is the station itself. The U5 no longer stops at Brandenburger Tor from 4 pm, and the station is closed to passengers from the same time, according to berlin.de, news of 30 December 2025. Guides talk about a metro « running all night » without that restriction. It only applies in the afternoon, but that is exactly when many visitors arrive.

Car traffic follows the same pattern. In 2025/26, Straße des 17. Juni, between the Großer Stern and Brandenburger Tor, was closed to cars on 31 December and 1 January, along with Ebertstraße and Yitzhak-Rabin-Straße. The Großer Stern was closed from 6 am on 31 December. No traffic plan is published for 2026/27.

  • Metro: U-Bahn running all night in 2025/26, with a train every 5 minutes until about 5 pm.
  • U5: no longer stops at Brandenburger Tor from 4 pm in 2025/26.
  • Cars: Straße des 17. Juni closed between Großer Stern and Brandenburger Tor on 31 December and 1 January 2025/26.
Pixidia tip: if your evening starts near the gate around 4 pm, plan another way in. Check the BVG plan on the day, and keep two routes home, one to the south and one to the north.

5. Parties and alternatives without the main event

Three kinds of night out, from simplest to most festive

From €29.35 (Ü30) From €43.72 (indoors) From €173.11 (cruise) Clubs: €27.10 to €59 (2025/26)

Alternatives are plentiful, and the square’s 2026/27 programme isn’t a condition for them. Several parties already have a berlin.de ticket page for 31 December 2026. They fall into three groups: indoor parties, nights on the water, and concerts or galas. No independent reviews of these nights turned up; the organisers present them as safer and more comfortable than the square.

Indoor parties are the simplest to book. Kulturbrauerei, Schönhauser Allee 36, advertises a party from 8 pm, from €43.72, with 30 DJs and a live band, and a countdown in the courtyard with fireworks over the rooftops. The organiser mentions several floors, without a fixed number. The Ü30 party at Haus Ungarn, Karl-Liebknecht-Straße 9, starts at 9 pm, from €29.35. It is restricted to people over 30 and is partly outdoors, on a terrace: it is not an entirely indoor party.

On the water, the Silvester-Party auf der Spree leaves from Hafen Treptow at 8 pm, from €173.11. A five-hour Silvesterboot, with a light buffet and a welcome drink, is also listed, with no price found. Cruises cost a lot more than indoor parties.

Pixidia tip: for an indoor party, book early. The 31 December ticket pages are already open: Kulturbrauerei, Ü30 Haus Ungarn and Silvester-Party auf der Spree. Prices shown may change before the date.

For the clubs, the guide only applies to 2025/26: 2026/27 dates are not published for these venues. For techno, Tresor/Globus and Ritter Butzke (€36.15 in 2025/26) also appear in that guide, with no confirmation for 2026/27. Hotel Adlon Kempinski published a press release on 26 October 2026 about its year-end celebrations, with no gala price found at that date. If you want a gala dinner, ask the hotel for the rate rather than trusting an aggregator.

6. A night at the Brandenburg Gate, benchmarks from 2025/26

The 2026/27 programme isn’t published, but last year’s benchmarks give a useful idea of how the evening runs. They don’t transfer as they are: times, zones and access can change.

Source: press releases from the BVG, the Berlin police and berlin.de cited above, checked on 6 November 2026. None of these times is published for 2026/27.

Actionable point: the U5 no longer stops at Brandenburger Tor from 4 pm in 2025/26. If your evening starts near the gate, plan another station and a route home. One guide advises arriving before 7 pm, but that advice is not checked against the official releases. These benchmarks are not a rule for 2026/27.

7. Budget, profiles and tips from the ground

Among the parties dated 31 December 2026, the cheapest indoor party at the published public price is the Kulturbrauerei, from €43.72. The Ü30 party at Haus Ungarn, from €29.35, is a reduced rate for over-30s, partly outdoors. The 2025/26 clubs go down to €27.10, but their 2026/27 prices are not published. The Viator « Berlin Club Culture » listing in section 1 is €200 per adult on 31 December (price checked on 6 November 2026 for two adults). A Spree cruise starts at €173.11.

Which format for which traveller

  • Couples. An indoor party for dinner and dancing, or the Viator « Berlin Club Culture » listing suggested above, depending on when you get to Berlin.
  • Families. The Silvesterzug historic train, with a cold buffet and crêpes, has no date or price announced. Without a confirmed date, an indoor night is the simplest thing to book without relying on the square’s programme.
  • Tight budget. The main party was free with a ticket in 2025/26, but the 2026/27 ticket is not published. In the meantime, the Kulturbrauerei, from €43.72, is a price benchmark for an indoor night (the €29.35 Ü30 rate is for over-30s only).
  • First time. Keep a backup booked. The main party means controlled access, bag rules and transport restrictions, and its 2026/27 format is unknown.

Field tips from the 2025/26 rules

  • Take a small bag rather than a backpack: in 2025/26, backpacks and bags larger than A4 were banned at the party entrance.
  • Don’t carry food, alcohol or fireworks onto the party perimeter. The 2025/26 rule was the same for everyone.
  • Dress warmly: no forecast exists yet for 31 December 2026, and no Berlin average was found in the sources consulted.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Booking a return with no margin. Transport changes mode in the afternoon of the 31st, and the U5 doesn’t serve Brandenburger Tor from 4 pm in 2025/26.
  • Reading a 2025/26 price as a 2026/27 price. Only the listings dated 31 December 2026 apply to this year, and they should be reread before you buy.
  • Assuming the fireworks zone stays the same. It is redrawn every year, and boroughs issue their own orders.

If you’re staying on, the Christmas markets run until the end of December. Check their dates and opening times before you go.

What other guides don’t tell you

Mainstream guides often present the party as settled, with last year’s acts. Here are four points checked against the official sources, as of 6 November 2026.

  • The 2026/27 status is in conflict. Guides talk about a party that is definitely happening, but berlin.de shows « Date not yet confirmed » and a last change on 13 May 2026. berlin.de, 2026 event page (checked on 6 November 2026).
  • The U5 doesn’t serve Brandenburger Tor in the afternoon. In 2025/26 it stopped serving the station from 4 pm, while guides describe a metro open all night without qualification. BVG, press release of 23 December 2025 (checked on 6 November 2026).
  • Fireworks zones don’t cover the whole city, and boroughs have their own orders. In 2025/26, Pankow, Lichtenberg and Neukölln issued orders covering their whole area. Pankow borough, press release of 4 December 2025 (checked on 6 November 2026).
  • The party’s safety record is documented. Police counted about 20,000 people in the party area between 7 pm and 1:30 am, and recorded no particular incident. Berlin police, report of 1 January 2026 (checked on 6 November 2026).

Frequently asked questions about New Year’s Eve in Berlin 2026

New Year’s Eve Berlin 2026: will the Brandenburg Gate party take place?

The press reports a confirmation: the Berliner Kurier, dated 16 September 2026, says a party is planned at the Brandenburg Gate. The berlin.de page, however, shows « Date not yet confirmed », last changed on 13 May 2026. No official city announcement about the 2026/27 edition had been found by 6 November 2026. Check the page before you book.

Do you need a ticket for the Brandenburg Gate party?

In 2025/26, yes: a personalised, free ticket, booked in advance, gave access to around 20,000 places (berlin.de, press release of 19 November 2025). The 2026/27 terms are not published. Without a confirmed ticket, don’t build your evening around this party: an indoor night, booked in advance, is the simplest thing to book without depending on the square’s programme.

Can you bring a bag?

In 2025/26, backpacks and bags larger than A4 were banned at the party entrance, and neither food nor alcohol brought from outside was allowed. Bag searches were possible. The 2026/27 rules are not published as of writing (berlin.de, news of 30 December 2025).

Can you set off fireworks in Berlin on 31 December?

Yes, but only on 31 December and 1 January, and from the age of 18 (berlin.de, dpa, 8 December 2025). In 2025/26, police set a fireworks zone from 6 pm to 6 am, where categories F2 to F4 were banned. Pankow, Lichtenberg and Neukölln issued wider orders. The 2026/27 zones are not published yet.

Do public transport services run all night on 31 December?

In 2025/26, BVG announced a metro running all night, with a train every 5 minutes until about 5 pm, except on the U4. The U5 doesn’t stop at Brandenburger Tor from 4 pm. Trams and buses ran on their Saturday timetable. The 2026/27 timetable is not published as of this date (BVG, press release of 23 December 2025).

Which parties are on in Berlin on 31 December 2026?

Several parties have a berlin.de ticket page for 31 December 2026: the Ü30 party at Haus Ungarn, for over-30s only, from €29.35 at 9 pm; the Kulturbrauerei, from €43.72 at 8 pm; and a Spree cruise, from €173.11 at 8 pm. Prices were checked on 6 November 2026 and may change before the date.

Are there concerts in Berlin on 31 December?

Yes. Two classical concerts are listed for 31 December 2026, by the Festival Orchester Berlin and the Berliner Symphoniker, with an entry price from €41.30 on the berlin.de pages (Festival Orchester Berlin and Berliner Symphoniker). The listings give different start times, 3 pm or 6:30 pm: confirm the time on the page before you buy.

Where can you spend New Year’s Eve in Berlin without a ticket for the main party?

The main options are indoor parties, Spree cruises, concerts, galas and clubs. An indoor party, booked in advance, is the most direct route. The club prices cited date from 2025/26 and don’t apply to 2026/27 (Nightlife-in-Berlin guide, 14 November 2025).

Do you need an ETIAS authorisation to visit Berlin at the end of 2026?

Visa-exempt travellers, such as British, American and Canadian nationals, will need an ETIAS authorisation before entering the Schengen area. No official start date was confirmed as of writing, and the official page was not checked: commercial sources point to the fourth quarter of 2026, and one of them reports a delay. EU, EEA and Swiss nationals don’t need one.
