The cheapest of nine top-rated Munich tours is a 2-hour Old Town walk at $26.25 per adult. All nine are rated 4.7 or higher with at least 100 reviews, and prices are for 2 travelers from November 20, 2026 to January 18, 2027. For a full day out, the Neuschwanstein and Linderhof day trip fits best.

Verified on via the Viator partner API (prices, ratings, availability).

Munich has more guided tours than anyone can compare in one afternoon, and most ranking pages list them without the details that decide a booking: how long the tour lasts door to door, what the price covers, whether you can cancel, and whether your date is open at all. This guide was built around those questions. We searched the Munich catalogue in English on Viator, kept only the tours rated 4.7 or higher with at least 100 reviews, and checked each shortlisted tour for the window that matters for a 2027 trip: prices and availability from November 20, 2026 to January 18, 2027, for two adults.

Thirty-five tours passed that test. We picked nine of them to cover different formats, review counts and price points. They are listed from the lowest to the highest price per adult, and they cover very different ways of seeing the city: a 2-hour Old Town walk, a classic bike tour, a beer tour, a walk through Nazi-era Munich, an evening ghost walk, a private walk, a day trip to two Bavarian castles, and two food tours. The most reviewed is the Third Reich walking tour, with 4,669 reviews. The highest rating belongs to the private Old Town walk, at 5.00 from 278 reviews, and it is the one to start with if you want a guide for your group alone. Check the private walk on Viator.

Read the cards for the details that matter at the booking stage. Prices are per adult for two travelers, taken from the price window and dated November 6, 2026, and the table below puts the same numbers side by side. Eight of the nine tours confirm instantly. The Bavarian food tour confirms by hand, and its card says so. Every tour on the list offers a full refund if you cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure.

This guide does not repeat our day-trip article, which covers the other Neuschwanstein tours, so only one Neuschwanstein day trip appears here.

Why Munich Rewards a Guided Visit

Munich’s historic center is easy to walk and easy to misread alone. The medieval Old Town, known as the Altstadt, sits around Marienplatz, and four of the nine tours on this list are guided walks. A good guide does what a map cannot: it explains why you are looking at a particular square or street, and it tells you what to skip.

Food is the second thread. The Viktualienmarkt is Munich’s central produce market, and the lunch tour there combines more than 20 tastings with lunch, drinks and snacks. The Old Town food tour takes a different route through the same city: local cheeses and charcuterie, Leberkäse (a Bavarian meatloaf), local baked bread, Munich wheat beer and a local lager, a freshly baked pretzel, Weisswurst (Bavarian breakfast sausage) and Schmaltznudel, a traditional pastry. Choose by how hungry you are, how long you want to spend eating, and how much you want to pay.

History is the heaviest thread, and the tours on this list treat it seriously. The Third Reich walking tour follows the sites of Nazi-era Munich with a local professional guide, and it is the most reviewed tour here.

The Bavarian day trip takes a different angle. The coach leaves early, drives to Neuschwanstein Castle and Linderhof Palace, and stops for a sightseeing tour of Oberammergau along the way. Castle admission is sold as a separate option: some versions of this day trip include it and others do not, so check which one your booking includes. The castles’ own website prices date from 2025, so this guide quotes the tour price instead of the castle’s admission rate.

Timing matters in this window. The Christkindlmarkt on Marienplatz runs from November 20 to December 24, 2026, according to the city’s events page. Two tours on the list, the Ghosts and Spirits walk and the Viktualienmarkt lunch, meet at the Ludwig Beck doors on Marienplatz, so you can check out the market and find your meeting point in one stop.

1. Munich Old Town Walking Tour

Rating 4.74 from 1540 reviews 2 hours $26.25 per adult (2 travelers) Instant confirmation Available 38 of 60 days

Choose this walk if you want the city on foot before you choose anything else. It is the lowest price per adult on the list, at $26.25 for two travelers, and it runs two hours with a professional local guide. That makes it a sensible first afternoon: you learn where the Old Town starts, where you want to eat, and which of the other eight tours you want to come back for. The listing says it suits all fitness levels and is wheelchair accessible, which matters if your group includes someone who does not want to climb stairs. Food, drinks and gratuities are not included, so budget for them separately. The tour is open on 38 of the 60 days in the window, so check your date before you plan around it. Meet at Dachauer Straße 4, at the guide’s shop on the north side, and arrive 20 minutes before departure.

2. Classic Munich Bike Tour

Rating 4.88 from 1414 reviews 3 to 4 hours (variable) $39.94 per adult (2 travelers) Instant confirmation Available 33 of 60 days

This is the only bike tour on the list, and the one to choose if you want to cover ground rather than stand still. It is an English-only tour led by a local guide, and the price includes the bike, a helmet, entry into the Residenz courtyards and free luggage storage during the tour. At $39.94 per adult for 2 travelers, it sits at the low end of the price range. The tour goes ahead in all weather, and the listing says ponchos are sold on the spot when it rains, so a wet forecast does not cancel the ride. Food, drinks and gratuities are extra. There is no hotel pickup. Guides identify themselves at the Discover Bavaria shop at Hochbrückenstraße 10, which is also the fallback point if you are more than 10 minutes late. The listing advises against the ride for travelers with spinal injuries, and children must be accompanied by an adult. Check your comfort on two wheels before you book, and pick a date from the 33 days it runs.

This is the tour for adults who want Munich’s pubs and beer halls with a guide, and the only one on the list where the drinks are the main event. The tour runs in all weather, and the listing asks guests to dress for the weather and not to come in costume. Gratuities and hotel pickup are not included. Availability is the tightest on the list: the tour is open on 23 of the 60 days in the window, so check your date early if you travel over a holiday. Rating 4.89 from 2151 reviews 2 to 2.5 hours (variable) $57.06 per adult (2 travelers) Instant confirmation Available 59 of 60 days

Private guide walking with a visitor in Munich's Old Town

6. Private Old Town Walk

Rating 5.0 from 278 reviews 2 hours $148.37 for 2 travelers (group price) Private tour Available 42 of 60 days

Pick this tour when you want the Old Town at your own pace and with one guide. It has the highest rating on the list, 5.00 from 278 reviews, but the review count is the smallest on the list, so the score rests on a shorter record than the others. The guide is fluent in English. The listing says the tour includes a digital map of the itinerary and insider tips on restaurants, shopping and sights. The price is for the group, not per person: $148.37 for two travelers, or $74.19 each. When you plan a party, compare the group total rather than the per-adult figure. Food and drinks are not included. The tour is open on 42 of the 60 days in the window, and it has the longest booking cutoff on the list: you must book at least 240 minutes before the start. The meeting point is under the arch of the clock tower at the Isar Gate (Isartor), and the guide sends a photo of the spot before the tour. The listing says the tour is wheelchair accessible and suits all fitness levels, and service animals are allowed.

Rating 4.79 from 3125 reviews 10.5 hours $82.17 per adult (2 travelers) Instant confirmation Available 53 of 60 days

This is the only day trip on the list, and the only Neuschwanstein product here. The day lasts 10.5 hours, so plan the whole day around it. Arrive at the departure point, the Fielmann eyewear store on Sonnenstraße off Karlsplatz (Stachus), at about 8:40 a.m. The coach is air-conditioned, an English-speaking live guide travels with you, and the tour includes a sightseeing stop in Oberammergau. An audio guide at Neuschwanstein is available in several languages. Castle tickets are sold on the coach in the morning, so you skip the box-office line. Rating 4.87 from 470 reviews 3.5 hours $114.12 per adult (2 travelers) Manual confirmation, cutoff 120 minutes Available 47 of 60 days

Choose this tour if you want Bavarian food in one afternoon rather than a full lunch. Before You Book

Check your dates first

Three tours are open on fewer than 40 of the 60 days in the window: the beer tour (23 days), the bike tour (33 days) and the Old Town walk (38 days). If your dates are fixed, check the card before you plan the day around it.

Read the confirmation and cutoff

Eight of the nine tours confirm instantly. The Bavarian food tour confirms by hand, with a booking cutoff of 120 minutes before the start. Cutoffs run from 0 to 240 minutes before the start, so read the cutoff on each card before you book on the day.

Getting around Munich

The S-Bahn links Munich Airport to the city center in about 40 to 45 minutes. Check the current fare on the MVV site before you travel. The zone M day ticket costs 10.10 euros in 2026 and rises to 10.80 euros from January 1, 2027. MVV puts the average network rise at 4.9 percent.

Travel Tips on the Ground

Start with the weather. The warmest month in Munich is July, with an average high of about 74°F (about 23°C), and January is the coldest, with an average high of about 37°F (about 3°C). For a winter visit, the tours that run in all weather are the beer tour and the bike tour, according to their listings. The beer tour asks guests to dress for the weather, so bring a jacket you do not mind getting damp.

The daily opening hours of the Christkindlmarkt were not confirmed in the sources we checked, so check them on the day rather than planning your evening around a time you have not seen.

The castle’s official website sets its winter hours from October 16, 2026, with castle tours from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The castle is closed on December 24, 25 and 31, and on January 1. In that window the day trip is not offered on 24 and 25 December, 31 December or 1 January, so check the calendar on the listing before you choose a date. The site does not say whether advance reservation is required, so ask the operator before you book. For the price, rely on the tour listing rather than the castle’s own admission prices, which date from 2025.

Dachau is not on this list. The memorial is free to visit and is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily, and it is closed on December 24. Our day-trip article covers it, so you can compare it with the castle day trip before you choose.

The Oktoberfest for 2027 runs from September 18 to October 3, according to the city’s events page. None of the nine tours here is an Oktoberfest ticket. The festival itself is covered in our separate Oktoberfest article, and the beer tour here is a better fit for the rest of the year.

Group your bookings by start point. The Old Town walk and the Third Reich walking tour both start at Dachauer Straße 4. The Ghosts and Spirits walk and the Viktualienmarkt lunch both meet at the Ludwig Beck doors on Marienplatz. Booking two tours from the same start point saves you a second trip across the city.

Questions Travelers Ask About Munich Tours

Which Munich tour is the best value?

The Munich Old Town Walking Tour has the lowest price on the list at $26.25 per adult for 2 travelers. It lasts 2 hours, comes with a professional local guide, and has 1,540 reviews at a 4.74 rating. If you want the most food in one session, the Viktualienmarkt lunch tour includes more than 20 tastings and costs $154.07 per adult. See the Old Town walk.

Do I need to book the castle day trip early?

Book it on Viator with enough time to spare. The Neuschwanstein and Linderhof day trip has a booking cutoff of 180 minutes before the start, and it is open on 53 of the 60 days in the window. The listing puts the meeting point at the Fielmann eyewear store on Sonnenstraße and asks you to arrive at about 8:40 a.m. Check the castle closures against your date before you choose the day.

Can I combine two of these tours in one day?

Yes, if the start times fit. The Old Town walk and the Third Reich walking tour share a start point at Dachauer Straße 4, so you can book both on one day with a break in between. Check the start time on each listing before you book.

Do I have to tip the guide?

Seven of the nine listings say gratuities are not included in the price, so budget for a tip if you want to give one. The Neuschwanstein day trip and the private walk list only food and drinks as exclusions. Read the exclusions on each card before you set your budget for the day.

Can I cancel these Munich tours for a full refund?

All nine listings offer a full refund if you cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time. Check the departure time when you reserve, because the 24-hour rule counts from it. A cancellation made less than 24 hours before the start is not refunded in full, according to the listings checked on November 6, 2026.

Which tour suits a group or a family?

The private Old Town walk suits a group, because its price is for the whole party rather than per person. Families with infants can look at the Third Reich walking tour and the Ghosts and Spirits walk, where infants can ride in a pram or stroller. Children’s tickets on the evening walk get the non-alcoholic option automatically. The bike tour requires children to be accompanied by an adult, and the beer tour is for guests aged 18 and over.
