As of 6 November 2026, no programme has been published for New Year’s Eve 2026-27 in Naples. For the 2025-26 edition, the city council (Comune) announced the Castel dell’Ovo fireworks from 2:15 am on 1 January, not midnight. The concert time, the fireworks time and the transport plan are not confirmed for this year either.
Checked on against the official sources cited (Comune di Napoli, public notice of 30 May 2026; Ministry of Culture).
Before 31 December, three points need watching: the Comune’s notice published on 30 May 2026, the ANM transport plan on anm.it, and the prefecture’s order on restricted zones, to check from mid-December. This article separates what is confirmed for 2026-27, what comes from the 2025-26 edition, and what still needs confirming, with the date of each source.
31 December 2026: what the city has announced, and what is missing

31 December 2026 falls on a Thursday, and no moveable holiday shifts it. The only institutional source found for 2026-27 is the Comune di Napoli public notice, dated 30 May 2026. It mentions an event in Piazza del Plebiscito and an animation along the lungomare. Applications to run the event were open from 30 May to 26 July 2026.
What is announced, and what is not
- A show in Piazza del Plebiscito, with no artists or times published
- An animation along the lungomare
- No line-up confirmed: Elodie and Serena Brancale (« partecipazione straordinaria ») and the names cited by the press, Gigi Finizio, LDA or Franco Ricciardi, relate to the 2025-26 edition
In 2025-26, the programme was published on 17 December by Napoli Turistica, then on 27 December by Movery. These dates give a reference point, not a guarantee for 2026-27.
If you are looking for an activity on the 31st, a private motorcycle tour of Naples is offered on Viator. The Viator API check of 6 November 2026 shows an active product, with slots open on 31 December and 1 January. This tour has no link with the concert or the fireworks, and our records do not give a departure time: ask Viator before you book. Price and availability can change.

Castel dell’Ovo fireworks: 2:15 am last year, not midnight

For the 2025-26 edition, the Comune di Napoli announced a fireworks show « dalle ore 02:15 » on 1 January, from Castel dell’Ovo. Napolike gave the same time, in the future tense, in an article of 29 December 2025, without citing a source. Many guides say « midnight ». Stick to the Comune’s announcement: it applies to the previous edition, not to the coming night.
What to take away
- The 2026-27 time is not published. The 2:15 am slot describes the 2025-26 edition, not the coming night.
- Free entry to Castel dell’Ovo according to the Ministry of Culture (extract). One booking site mentions an optional reservation: check before you go.
- The area covered is not settled: the press cites Piazza del Plebiscito, Piazza del Municipio and the lungomare for 2025-26, and an Idealista article also names Chiaia, the historic centre and the Quartieri Spagnoli. The sources do not agree.
Fireworks, glass and spray: what is banned, and what the casualty counts tell you
Two mayoral ordinances governed the end-of-2025 celebrations: no. 28 of 22 December and no. 29 of 24 December. The full text has not been read. What follows comes from December 2025 press coverage, notably Il Post and Fanpage. According to these sources, fireworks and firecrackers, urticating spray and glass bottles were banned. The announced fine could reach €500 (Cronache della Campania, extract).
For fireworks, one rule: do not buy them from unauthorised sellers, and check the label for the Interior Ministry’s authorisation. This advice comes from an extract of a statement by the carabinieri and police, relayed by the press. Setting them off is banned by the 2025-26 ordinances, according to the press.
The casualty figures for the 2025-26 night are heavy, and firework injuries are the most documented risk. The press reports 57 injured in Naples and its province, against 36 the year before (Fanpage). Nationally, AGI reports one death and 283 injured for 1 January 2026. These are press figures: the questura’s official count was not consulted. A Focus article relays the Red Cross advice for a New Year without fireworks, worth reading before the evening.
Safety and pickpockets
Pickpockets are the theft risk most often cited in sources for crowded nights. Spaccanapoli, Forcella, the Museo quarter and Piazza Garibaldi come up as areas to watch. The basics stay simple: keep your bag closed in front of you, phone in an inside pocket, and never take a wallet out in a queue.
Police and emergency guidance focuses mainly on fireworks: never leave a child alone near a firework display, and never touch a device that has not gone off.
Restricted zones: how they work
A red zone is a perimeter set by the prefecture, where checks are reinforced. For Capodanno 2024, four zones were set: Chiaia, Vomero, Decumani and Stazione Garibaldi (LaPresse, 31 December 2024, extract). In 2025 they were extended until March 2025 (Fanpage, extract). A 2026 rule allows the prefect to set them for six months, renewable up to 18 months (Il Giorno, extract). No order concerning Naples was in place on the date consulted: check the prefecture’s order from mid-December.
Transport on 31 December: in 2025-26 the metro ran all night; the 2026-27 plan is not published
In 2025-26, Line 1 of the metro ran all night on 31 December, with 198 trips according to Napolike. On 1 January, service was suspended from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm. ANM buses stopped around 8 pm, with the night service cancelled, and the Alibus to the airport also stopped around 8 pm. These timetables describe the previous edition: the 2026-27 plan was not published at the time of consultation.
A single source mentions a metro stop at 9 pm on 31 December. It contradicts Napolike without explanation. Do not count on a night metro until you have checked the ANM plan on anm.it.
| Service | Timetable recorded for 2025-26 |
|---|---|
| Metro Line 1, 31 December 2025 | Night service all night (198 trips) |
| Metro Line 1, 1 January 2026 | Suspended from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm |
| Central and Chiaia funiculars | Continuous service on the night of the 31st |
| ANM buses | Until 8 pm, no night service |
| Alibus airport | Until 8 pm |

Getting back from Capodichino airport
The taxi from the airport is quoted between €16 and €24 depending on the site, with no single fare retained here. Ask for the fare before you get in, and check the Comune’s official tariffs. Movery announced, in an article of 27 December 2025, « traffic restrictions planned in central Naples » for the evening of the 31st (extract), but the article does not specify the perimeter. Thewom also announces a month-long closure of the airport, with no verified publication date and no established effect on the evening of the 31st. Confirm with the airport or your airline before you travel. If a strike also affects transport that evening, read our article on the Naples strikes over Christmas 2026 before you fix your return.
Pompeii on 1 January: open in 2026, nothing announced for 2027
The Ministry of Culture announced an exceptional opening of the Pompeii sites on Thursday 1 January 2026, with a single ticket and reduced hours (extract from the Ministry’s page). Several guides nevertheless show the site closed that day. For 1 January 2027, which falls on a Friday, no information is published at the time of consultation. Check pompeiisites.org, which publishes the opening decrees, before planning a visit that day.
The budget: a free concert in 2025-26, and a tourist tax that went up
The 2025-26 concert was free, according to the Comune. Nothing indicates it will be free in 2026-27. The clearest quantified extra cost is the tourist tax: in 2026, it rises by €1 per night for hotels and B&Bs (Fanpage). The maximum stay of 14 consecutive nights is relayed by Chekin and still needs checking against the municipal regulation. Many guides still give amounts from before the January 2026 increase. The breakdown by type of accommodation was not verified, because the sources disagree (Holidu, Chekin).
On the food side, the closest sourced reference is national: Federconsumatori estimates the classic family New Year’s Eve dinner at €56.70 per person for 2025, up 9% (Investire Oggi, extract). That figure is not specific to Naples, and no Neapolitan menu has been checked.
For the night-time return, the budget depends on how you travel. The taxi from the airport is the least predictable cost: the fares quoted range from €16 to €24 depending on the site, and the cited tariff includes a night supplement. A paid daytime visit is paid directly to the provider: check the price on the visit’s page before you commit.
The cenone: lentils, cotechino and a late dinner
The New Year’s Eve dinner follows a tradition shared across Italy: cotechino and lentils, served at midnight, said to bring prosperity in the year ahead. Il Post recalls the principle in an article of 28 December 2025. In Naples, a single commercial source, to be treated with caution, describes a dinner that leans more towards fish and seafood, with the cotechino and lentils served after the desserts. Present this variant as a common habit, not a rule.
Adapting the evening to your profile
With children. With fireworks at 2:15 am in 2025-26, the night is long for younger ones. If the same time comes round again, plan the return on foot or by taxi: the buses stopped around 8 pm in 2025-26. The bans target fireworks for safety reasons, according to the press: keep children well away from the bangs.
As a couple. Guides advise booking a restaurant several weeks ahead for New Year’s Eve. No official data quantifies this advice. The safest approach is to book early, confirm the time the day before, and keep a fallback option near your accommodation.
On a small budget. The free 2025-26 concert can serve as a reference, but nothing guarantees it will be free in 2026-27. Budget for the tourist tax (+€1 per night in 2026, according to Fanpage) and a margin for the late-night return.
Visiting Naples for the first time. Keep a backup plan for transport: the previous edition’s timetables do not apply this year. For a look at the centre before the evening, our guide to the nativity scenes of San Gregorio Armeno covers the neighbourhood. If you are still weighing Rome for that night, our article on New Year’s Eve in Rome covers the other option.
With reduced mobility. No sourced data on the accessibility of party venues was found. Call the city hall on +39 081 795 1111, the switchboard number listed on the Comune’s New Year page, before you plan.
What other guides don’t tell you
Five points to keep in mind, each with its source and the date it was consulted.
