The Francofolies de La Rochelle 2026 run from 10 to 14 July on the Esplanade Saint-Jean-d’Acre, in their 42nd edition. The festival welcomes Gims, Niska, Orelsan, Aya Nakamura and Mika as headline acts on the main stage. The evenings of 10–13 July are SOLD OUT — tickets remain available for 14 July (Mika, Gaëtan Roussel, Feu ! Chatterton) from €60 with promo code FRANCOS26CMO (−€15). Book now via the official SeeTickets box office.

Since 1985, the Francofolies have turned La Rochelle into the capital of French-language song every July. For this 42nd edition, the new artistic direction led by Émilie Yakish and Dimitri Gavenc has crafted a fresh programme: each evening has its own identity — urban, rock, feminine, cross-generational. Over 130 concerts across 8 stages, a tribute to 50 years of Renaud’s songs, and a closing night on 14 July (Bastille Day) capped by fireworks over the Old Port.

From Jean-Louis Foulquier to the 42nd Edition

Founded in 1985 130+ concerts / 8 stages Budget ~€6M ISO 20121 certified

According to Vivre à La Rochelle, Jean-Louis Foulquier (1943–2013), a presenter on France Inter radio, created the Francofolies in July 1985, inspired by the Francofêtes festivals in Quebec. His vision: a cosmopolitan festival of French-language song, blending established artists with emerging talent. The first edition sold 24,000 tickets. Since September 2024, Émilie Yakish and Dimitri Gavenc have co-directed the artistic programme — the 42nd edition in 2026 is their first major edition fully under their leadership.

Since 1998, the Chantier des Francofolies has mentored 12 emerging artists per year (six women, six men). Its alumni reveal the depth of the French-language music pipeline: Christine and the Queens, Calogero, Zaz, Juliette Armanet, Bigflo & Oli, Pomme, Hoshi, Zaho de Sagazan, Suzane… and Feu ! Chatterton, who come full circle in 2026 as headliners on closing night.

Eco-Responsible Commitments

  • ISO 20121 certified since 2021 (sustainable event management)
  • 60% of food offerings are vegetarian, using local short-supply chains
  • 600 secure bike racks near the stages
  • Annual carbon audit since 2010, CSR policy published February 2026
Pixidia tip: the FrancOff, a free fringe festival born in 2016, offers 25+ concerts in city-centre bars and venues from 10–12 July. A quality alternative if main stage tickets are sold out — see francoff.org for the programme.

Combining the Festival with the Old Port and the Island

Île de Ré: 3 km 138 km of cycle paths Gillardeau oysters 13.7 hours of sunshine

La Rochelle offers a rare configuration for a summer festival: the main site sits at the heart of a historic city. Between concerts, you can stroll under the medieval arcades, visit the Tour de la Chaîne and Tour de la Lanterne (€9.50, free for under-25s from EU countries), or explore the 12,000 marine creatures at the La Rochelle Aquarium (€19.50 adult, open from 9am in July). According to La Rochelle Tourism Office, all the main sights are within a 15-minute walk of each other. To plan your stay, see our guide to Charente-Maritime summer destinations.

Île de Ré, connected to La Rochelle by a bridge (car toll €16 in high season, RespiRé shuttle at €1 per person), is worth a half-day extra. By bike, you can ride the 138 km of signposted cycle paths to reach Saint-Martin-de-Ré (UNESCO-listed ramparts), the Phare des Baleines lighthouse, and the salt marshes at Ars-en-Ré. Bike hire from €15/day.

Local Food Worth Trying

  • Marennes-Oléron oysters (Gillardeau, Papin, David Hervé) — try them at Le Tout du Cru or Bar André (a local institution since 1947)
  • Mouclade charentaise: mussels with cream and saffron, the region’s signature dish
  • Cuttlefish chips and grey shrimps — staples on every Old Port terrace
Pixidia tip: book all Old Port restaurants as soon as you arrive in town. During the festival, tables fill up by 7pm. Les Flots (gastronomic) and Bar André require reservations several days in advance in July.
