GoVolta runs Amsterdam to Paris in about 7 hours from 14 December 2026, from €19 one way. The return takes 7 hours 23 to 7 hours 40 depending on the source. On the Eurostar side, a July 2026 search extract gives 3 hours 20 minutes, and June 2026 press reports a standard fare from €35.

Checked on against the official sources cited (GoVolta website, Dutch regulator ACM, Dutch government), May-June 2026 press and July 2026 search extracts for Eurostar.

A direct train between Amsterdam and Paris from €19: the price attracts, but the journey time weighs heavily. GoVolta starts its service on 14 December 2026, and the question most travellers ask is simple: should you choose it over the Eurostar? On price, the press reports a starting fare of €19 one way for GoVolta, but as of 26 October 2026 the official site publishes no Paris-Amsterdam fare. The answer depends less on the headline price than on journey time, luggage and how much a long day on a train suits you. This article separates what is verified as of 26 October 2026, what still needs confirming, and the choices to make depending on your profile.

GoVolta Amsterdam-Paris

From €19 one way From 14 December 2026 About 7 hours Every day

GoVolta is a Dutch open-access rail operator running on conventional lines, in competition with the state-run trains. Its Amsterdam-Paris service starts on 14 December 2026 and runs every day, in both directions. The rolling stock runs at 160 km/h according to the press: this is neither a TGV nor a high-speed train. The service is run by GoVolta Exploitation B.V., based in Breda, according to the Dutch regulator ACM.

Highlights

  • A direct train, with no change, between Amsterdam Centraal and Paris Nord.
  • Two cabin bags included in the ticket.
  • A starting fare from €19, below the standard Eurostar fare of €35 according to the June 2026 press.
  • Eleven stations, including Haarlem, which the Eurostar does not stop at according to a July 2026 search extract, and Longueau for Amiens.

The eleven stations, in order: Amsterdam Centraal, Haarlem, Den Haag HS, Rotterdam Centraal, Lage Zwaluwe, Roosendaal, Antwerpen-Centraal, Gent-Sint-Pieters, Arras, Longueau (Amiens) and Paris Nord. Official GoVolta list, repeated by NS International, consulted on 26 October 2026.

Pixidia tip: book once you know the final timetable. As of 26 October 2026, the official site still says the times « will follow ». Check them before you plan a connection or a meeting.

If your trip is part of a stay in Amsterdam, a three-hour guided walk (duration shown on the Viator listing, consulted on 26 October 2026) can fill the day before a 7:46 am departure, or the day after a return that arrives at 11:29 pm. Check the exact slot on the listing. The tour is offered on every date checked between 14 December 2026 and 31 March 2027: 108 dates out of 108 recorded on 26 October 2026.

2. Timetable: about 7 hours according to the press, to be confirmed

The factor that weighs most in the decision is also the one the sources agree on least. GoVolta’s official listing gives a journey time of « 5 h 30, direct » without explanation, and says the timetable « will follow ». The only timetable available is the one the press published on 28 May 2026. The outbound times match an ACM timetable file search extract; on the return, the extract differs (3:48 pm to 11:11 pm, against 3:49 pm to 11:29 pm in the press).

The press timetable has the train leaving Amsterdam Centraal at 7:46 am and reaching Paris Nord at 2:54 pm, a journey of 7 hours 8 minutes. The return leaves Paris Nord at 3:49 pm and reaches Amsterdam at 11:29 pm. According to the source, the return takes between 7 hours 23 minutes and 7 hours 40 minutes: the ACM extract gives 3:48 pm to 11:11 pm, i.e. 7 hours 23 minutes, and the full PDF could not be read on the verification date.

For planning, keep a range: between 7 and 8 hours of train depending on the direction. Do not book a tight connection on arrival based on this timetable alone. Mobilithib announced a final timetable publication in September, after SNCF Réseau agreed on the stops, but that confirmation does not appear in the sources consulted.

3. Price: from €19 to start with, a fare that rises with demand

The entry price is from €19 one way. It was announced when sales opened on 28 May 2026, for all 2027 dates, with an important caveat: this fare is provisional and rises as bookings come in. The price you pay therefore depends on the date you choose and when you buy. Tickets are booked online on GoVolta’s website: sales were open on 26 October 2026, with dynamic pricing.

There is also an intermediate option: a partial journey to a Belgian or Dutch station is announced from €10. It obviously does not cover the trip to Paris.

For budgeting, the most useful benchmark is the average price. GoVolta has announced an average return fare of about €50, according to Treinreiziger. That figure is a projection of how full trains will be, not a public price. As of 26 October 2026, no Paris-Amsterdam fare appears on the operator’s official site.

A reseller page offers tickets « from €19 » valid from 14 December 2026 to 31 March 2027. This is not confirmation of the official fare. Always compare the final price shown on the operator’s site, options included.

4. Luggage, changes and refunds

The ticket includes two cabin bags: one 55 × 40 × 25 cm and one small bag 30 × 20 × 15 cm, according to the GoVolta listing viewed via NS International. The press sometimes mentions a 50 cm limit for some bags. Use the official 55 cm figure, and check your suitcase size before departure. A large bag can be added as an option for about €15 according to Voyager en Train, to be confirmed at booking.

Standard bicycles are not allowed on board, and neither are animals. For a folding bike, check the rule with the operator before relying on it.

On changes, GoVolta offers an option to change the date and the name. Without this option, a change is possible but carries fees and a fare difference. The Flex option is announced at €1 during the launch offer, instead of €19 at the standard rate, and lets you change the date up to 14 days before departure.

Refunds are the least clear point. Voyager en Train writes that standard tickets are neither exchangeable nor refundable. The official site does not detail its refund policy as of the verification date. Before paying, read the terms and conditions of sale, and do not assume a cheap ticket will be refunded.

On delays, the EU regulation on rail passenger rights provides for compensation. According to secondary summaries, it reaches 25% of the price from 60 minutes of delay, and 50% from 120 minutes. The official regulation text could not be reread on the verification date: base any claim on the text itself.

5. Eurostar: faster and more frequent, but more expensive to start

On journey time, the Eurostar has no equal. A search extract dated July 2026 gives about 3 hours 20 minutes for a direct trip between Paris and Amsterdam. The official Eurostar pages could not be read on the verification date, as they returned an access error: this figure still needs checking on the operator’s site.

On price, the standard June 2026 fare starts at €35 one way, according to The Local and Treinreiziger. A promotional week in early June 2026 brought it down to €26. That amount is not a fixed reference: compare both prices on the day you book, not in an article published several months earlier.

On Eurostar bags and changes, a search extract gives: free exchange up to 1 hour before departure (Standard and Plus), refund up to 7 days before departure for €25, and an extra bag measuring 75 × 53 × 30 cm. These rules were not checked on the Eurostar page: verify them before you book.

If you are comparing with another Eurostar route, we covered the Eurostar London-Antwerp network from 14 December 2026, with its own timetables and fares.

6. Which traveller is the train for?

  • Budget first. If you are looking for an entry fare under €20 and accept a day on the train, GoVolta meets that need. The announced average return (about €50) is a projection: compare it with the fare on the day.
  • Travellers with no tight schedule. A late-afternoon meeting in Paris or a connection on arrival make the Eurostar safer. With an arrival at 2:54 pm at Paris Nord, the margin is short if you have a train to catch straight after.
  • Travellers with large luggage. Two cabin bags are included. A large bag costs about €15 as an option. In that case, compare the total with the Eurostar fare, whose baggage rules should be checked on the operator’s site.
  • People new to long-distance trains. The journey is long and onboard services are not confirmed: bring something to read, work on or rest with.
  • Interrail travellers. Not confirmed. Do not assume the pass is accepted until the operator has announced it.
  • People with reduced mobility. The service’s accessibility is not documented on any of the pages consulted. Contact GoVolta before booking.

7. A typical day, from outbound to return

Outbound. The train leaves Amsterdam Centraal at 7:46 am, according to the press timetable. Plan to reach the station without an official published deadline, leaving time to settle in and go through any checks. A valid passport or ID card is recommended: Dutch internal border checks ended on 30 September 2026, but the framework that came into force on 1 October 2026 allows checks on trains.

You arrive at Paris Nord at 2:54 pm. The station also serves the Eurostar, and the city centre is reached by metro or RER. With a mid-afternoon arrival, there is still time for the city.

Return. The train leaves Paris Nord at 3:49 pm according to the press. Allow a margin before departure: no official deadline was published as of 26 October 2026, and remember the time it takes to reach the station. The train arrives at Amsterdam Centraal at 11:29 pm. For the last leg to your accommodation, check in advance which transport is available at that hour.

In total, plan a full day of travel, including trips to and from the stations. That is the main difference from the Eurostar, whose direct journey takes about 3 hours 20 minutes according to a July 2026 search extract.

8. Indicative budget for two people

For two people travelling together, the figures below are based on announced prices. They are not quotes.

  • Two one-way tickets at the starting price: €38 (from €19 each), excluding options and any fare increase.
  • Two returns at the average price announced by GoVolta: about €100 (€50 each), as a projection.
  • Two standard Eurostar returns: €140 at least (€35 one way, June 2026 fare).
  • Large bag: about €15 extra per bag, to be confirmed at booking.

The gap is therefore in the entry ticket. At the average price announced by GoVolta, it falls to about €40 for two returns, which remains modest given roughly four extra hours of train each way. Plan food on board too: no catering is confirmed at launch, and a restaurant car is announced « in the coming months ».

9. Mistakes to avoid

  • Counting on a power socket on board. Voyager en Train says there is no power socket, although a blog cited before the launch mentioned two per carriage. The contradiction is not settled: do not count on a socket, and bring a power bank.

What other guides don’t tell you

Several articles repeat the same figures without dating them. Here are six points checked against official or dated sources.

  • The timetable is not final. Guides present 7:46 am and 2:54 pm as confirmed. The official site says the times « will follow », and the timetable has been circulating since the press report of 28 May 2026 (GoVolta website, consulted on 26 October 2026).
  • The official duration does not add up. The GoVolta listing says « 5 h 30 » without explanation, while the press and the timetable give 7 hours 8 minutes outbound. Do not repeat the 5 h 30 figure (GoVolta website; Treinreiziger, 28 May 2026, consulted on 26 October 2026).
  • No Brussels stop in 2026. Guides often talk about « via Brussels ». The December 2026 service runs via Gent-Sint-Pieters and Antwerpen-Centraal, and high-speed service via Brussels-Midi will not start until 2028 (ACM, publication of 31 July 2026; The Local, consulted on 26 October 2026).
  • High-speed service is planned for 2028, not 2027. The Dutch regulator has recorded three trains per day and per direction from 10 December 2028, via Schiphol, Rotterdam, Antwerp and Brussels-Midi (ACM, notification of 28 July 2026, consulted on 26 October 2026).
  • Border checks do not last « until the end of 2026 ». The Dutch government gives their end as 30 September 2026. Since 1 October 2026, the MTV framework allows checks on trains (Rijksoverheid, consulted on 26 October 2026).
  • The Eurostar price is not fixed. Guides compare €19 with « Eurostar from €35 ». €35 is the standard fare for June 2026, and a promotion brought it down to €26 from 2 to 8 June. Present the Eurostar price as variable (Treinreiziger, 2 June 2026, consulted on 26 October 2026).

Frequently asked questions

How much does a GoVolta Paris-Amsterdam ticket cost?

From €19 one way, with dynamic pricing that rises as bookings come in. The fare was announced for all of 2027 when sales opened on 28 May 2026. The official site does not publish a Paris-Amsterdam fare as of 26 October 2026. A partial journey to a Belgian or Dutch station can start at €10. Check the final price on the operator’s site before you book.

How long does the GoVolta journey take?

About 7 hours. The press timetable gives 7 hours 8 minutes outbound, leaving Amsterdam at 7:46 am and reaching Paris Nord at 2:54 pm. The return takes between 7 hours 23 minutes and 7 hours 40 minutes depending on the source. The official listing says « 5 h 30 » without explanation: that figure matches no published timetable and should not be used. Final times are still to be confirmed.

Does the train go through Brussels?

No. For the December 2026 service, the train runs via Gent-Sint-Pieters and Antwerpen-Centraal. Brussels-Midi will only be served from 10 December 2028, in the high-speed project recorded by the Dutch regulator. To stop in Brussels in 2026, you need to take a different train.

Which bags are included?

Two cabin bags: one 55 × 40 × 25 cm and one small bag 30 × 20 × 15 cm, according to the GoVolta listing viewed via NS International. A large bag can be added as an option for about €15 according to Voyager en Train, to be confirmed at booking. Bicycles and animals are not allowed on board.

Can you change or refund your ticket?

Changing the date is possible with the dedicated option. Without it, a change carries fees and a fare difference. The Flex option, at €1 during the launch offer instead of €19, lets you change up to 14 days before departure. Refunds are not detailed on the official site: Voyager en Train says the standard ticket is neither exchangeable nor refundable. Read the conditions before you pay.

Do you need ID?

Yes, to be safe. Dutch internal border checks ended on 30 September 2026, but since 1 October 2026 the MTV framework allows checks on trains. Carry a valid passport or ID card. The status of checks on the Belgian and French side was not verified on the date of this article.

GoVolta or Eurostar: which should you choose?

According to a July 2026 extract, the Eurostar takes about 3 hours 20 minutes against 7 hours for GoVolta, and runs more often. The press announces a starting fare from €19 for GoVolta, against a €35 standard fare (June 2026); the official site publishes no Paris-Amsterdam fare as of 26 October 2026. If you must arrive at a set time, take the Eurostar. If you want to pay less and accept a day on the train, GoVolta can work.

What happens if the train is late?

The EU regulation on rail passenger rights provides for compensation: according to secondary summaries, 25% of the price from 60 minutes of delay, and 50% from 120 minutes. The official text could not be reread on the verification date. GoVolta has not published a detailed compensation policy to date.

What if the train is cancelled?

No official procedure was published as of 26 October 2026, either by GoVolta or in the sources consulted. This article therefore does not describe any specific right in case of cancellation. Keep your ticket and receipts for extra expenses, and check the operator’s site before going to the station. For delays, see the previous question.
