The Lille Christmas market 2026 opens on Wednesday 18 November 2026 on place Rihour and closes on 30 December 2026. Entry is free and the village has 90 chalets, according to the organiser. The Ferris wheel, on place du Général-de-Gaulle, runs until 16 January 2027, at about €7 for an adult.
Checked on against the official sources cited (Hello Lille tourist office, the organiser of the Christmas village).
The Lille Christmas market runs on place Rihour from 18 November to 30 December 2026. Wooden chalets, mulled wine and waffles, free entry, and a Ferris wheel a few minutes’ walk away on the Grand-Place, running until 16 January 2027. This guide brings together the dates and prices checked against official sources, how to get there from Paris and London, a costed day budget, and the points most guides leave out.
1. When does the Lille Christmas market 2026 start?

Place Rihour, in the heart of the historic centre
The market opens on Wednesday 18 November 2026 on place Rihour, 59000 Lille, and closes on 30 December 2026. Both dates appear on the tourist office page and on the organiser’s page, which give them as guidance only and say they may change: check them the day before your visit. The organiser announces 90 wooden chalets selling crafts, decorations, jewellery, regional products and treats, according to its presentation of the Christmas village.
The market, which the organiser calls the « Village de Noël », is run by the Lille trade federation (Fédération lilloise du commerce), with the city as a partner. None of the sources read gives a date for the first edition, so this guide doesn’t offer one.
Highlights
- A compact market, which takes one to two hours to walk round
- Free entry
- Mulled wine, hot chocolate and waffles to take away, according to the sources read
- Direct access by metro, line 1, Rihour station
A guided walking tour of Vieux-Lille lasts two hours. Check the exact schedule on the Viator listing before you book.

2. Is it open on 24 and 31 December?
On 24 December the market closes at 6 pm. On 25 December it is closed. On 31 December no opening is announced, since the market ends on the 30th.
On 30 December, the last day, things are less clear. Some listings show a 6 pm closing, but the organiser gives no specific time for that date on its 2026 page. This guide therefore doesn’t use 6 pm: plan for the 30th with the usual hours, and check the organiser’s page before you come.
3. The Ferris wheel: not on place Rihour

Ferris wheel, place du Général-de-Gaulle
The wheel turns on place du Général-de-Gaulle, known as the Grand-Place, a few minutes’ walk from place Rihour. According to the tourist office page, it runs until 16 January 2027, about two weeks longer than the market. It opens from 12 pm to midnight on weekdays, and from 10 am to midnight at weekends and during school holidays.
According to Le Bonbon (article of 15 December 2025), the wheel arrived in Lille in 1988, set up at the Grand Palais during the winter funfair, then on the Grand-Place from 1990. It was built in the Netherlands in 1980, is 50 metres tall and has 36 gondolas. The market itself is not held at the Grand Palais.
Highlights
- About €7 for an adult, about €5 for a child under 1.40 m
- No booking needed

4. How do you get there from Paris?
By train, Paris to Lille takes about an hour. TGV INOUI and OUIGO both arrive at Lille-Flandres, and OUIGO can also stop at Tourcoing. According to the OUIGO Paris-Lille page, checked on 6 November 2026, call fares start at €10 for an adult. This fare is undated: the real price depends on the day and time.
From London, the Eurostar reaches Lille-Europe after about 1 hour 22 minutes between city centres. Lille-Flandres and Lille-Europe are about 400 metres apart, according to a tourist office page from 2022. The organiser says it’s about five minutes’ walk from Lille-Europe to place Rihour.
The organiser also mentions a shuttle from Lesquin airport, with no details on its timetable, fare or stop: check these before you travel.
| Journey | Time and arrival | Fare checked |
|---|---|---|
| Paris to Lille by TGV INOUI | About 1 hour, Lille-Flandres | Not checked for December 2026 |
| Paris to Lille by OUIGO | About 1 hour 10, Lille-Flandres or Tourcoing | From €10 adult (call fare, undated) |

| Lille-Europe to place Rihour on foot | About 5 minutes | Free |
| Metro line 1 to Rihour station | Rihour station, next to the village | Single Ilévia ticket €1.90 per local press (not officially confirmed) |
Sources: OUIGO Paris-Lille page, Eurostar Lille page, tourist office and organiser, checked on 6 November 2026. Ilévia ticket price: local press (Le Bonbon), not officially confirmed.
5. Getting around Lille and parking
In the centre, metro line 1 serves Rihour station, a few metres from the village. The city is compact: Vieux-Lille is about five minutes’ walk from place Rihour, and most visitors combine the market and the old quarter on foot.
A single Ilévia ticket went up to €1.90 on 1 August 2026, according to Le Bonbon. That figure comes from local press: the ilevia.fr site could not be checked for this article, so confirm the fare locally before you go.
By car, the organiser points to « one of the Indigo car parks in the city centre » without naming one. No 2026 parking rate has been checked. The sources read describe weekend parking as difficult: the metro or the train is the simplest option.
6. Budget for a day at the market
A day at the market costs little if you limit yourself to the entry and the Ferris wheel. The most variable cost is food and shopping in the chalets, and none of the sources read publishes a price list for them. No payment method (card or cash) is published either: bring both.
| Item | Amount checked | Status of the data |
|---|---|---|
| Market entry | Free | Confirmed by the organiser and the tourist office |
| Ferris wheel, adult | About €7 | Confirmed by the tourist office |
| Ferris wheel, child under 1.40 m | About €5 | Confirmed by the tourist office |
| Paris to Lille by OUIGO, one way | From €10, adult | Undated call fare |
| Single Ilévia ticket | €1.90 | Local press, not officially confirmed |
| Chalets and food | Not published | No price list found |
Sources: Hello Lille tourist office, organiser, OUIGO page, checked on 6 November 2026; Ilévia ticket from local press (Le Bonbon).
For a family of four, two adults and two children under 1.40 m, the Ferris wheel comes to about €24 in total based on tourist office prices. Add the train if you’re coming from Paris, then a free budget for the chalets.
7. A typical day, from opening to night
Arrive at opening, at 11 am. The most repeated advice from visitors is to arrive early to avoid the crowds: this is a traveller tip, not checked against an official source. Start on place Rihour: the chalets take about an hour to walk round, and mulled wine or waffles make a nice break early in the visit.
Around midday, walk to Vieux-Lille. The streets are each decorated in their own way, and the red-brick façades give the quarter a distinctly Flemish feel. A two-hour guided tour can fill the morning: check the exact schedule on the Viator listing before you book.
In the afternoon, head to the Grand-Place for the Ferris wheel. The Vieille Bourse is on the same square: it’s one of the buildings to look at on the way, before heading back to the market.
Return to Rihour in the evening for the lights, which come on at nightfall (time not checked). The village closes at 8:30 pm from Sunday to Thursday and at 10 pm on Friday and Saturday. The wheel runs until midnight.
To plan a day like this around your own dates and pace, the Pixidia planner starts from how you travel rather than from a fixed programme.
8. Beyond the market: the Mairie Christmas and Arras
The city of Lille runs a separate event, the Mairie Christmas, on Saturday 28 November 2026 from 1 pm to 7 pm, at the Hôtel de ville, place Augustin-Laurent. Entry is free. It isn’t the place Rihour market: the city’s page mentions neither place Rihour nor the Ferris wheel.
For a second stop in the region, Arras holds its Ville de Noël on the Grand-Place from 27 November to 27 December 2026, according to its tourist office. A listing site gives 30 December: go by the tourist office date, and check the times, since the 2026 programme was not fully published when we looked.
If you’re extending your trip to Belgium, our guide to Brussels Winter Wonders 2026 covers the Brussels market, with its own dates and hours.
9. Which market for which traveller?
With children
The JDS listing, updated 7 September 2026, mentions a Father Christmas chalet and vintage fairground rides, including a carousel on place de Béthune. The organiser’s 2026 programme had not been published on 16 October 2026, so these activities still need to be confirmed. For a child under 1.40 m, the wheel costs about €5.
As a couple
The best time is late afternoon, when the wheel lights up above the Grand-Place. The next day, on a weekday if you can, arrive at opening to beat the crowds, then walk to Vieux-Lille, about five minutes from Rihour.
On a small budget
Entry is free and the wheel costs about €7. The train is the cost to watch: OUIGO shows call fares from €10 one way, with no dates. To avoid unplanned spending, set a limit for the chalets before you go in.
10. Mistakes to avoid
- Looking for the Ferris wheel on place Rihour. It’s on the Grand-Place, a few minutes’ walk away.
- Going on a weekend afternoon. The sources describe packed weekends and narrow aisles.
- Driving without a parking plan. No 2026 rate is confirmed, and the metro serves the square.
- Counting on a 6 pm closing on 30 December. The organiser has not confirmed this time.
- Confusing the market with the Mairie Christmas on 28 November. These are two separate events.
- Keeping the old Ilévia fare in mind. Local press reports a rise to €1.90 since 1 August 2026.
- Bringing large luggage. The aisles are narrow, according to one commercial guide, which should be read with caution.
What other guides don’t tell you
One point most of the guides consulted leave out (Radical Storage, Onivapp, Festival en France, Lonely Planet).
- The wheel stays up after the market closes. Most guides stop at 30 December, but the tourist office gives 16 January 2027 as the end date for the wheel, with later hours during school holidays. Hello Lille tourist office (consulted on 6 November 2026).
