The London New Year’s Day Parade 2027 is announced for Friday 1 January 2027, from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm, along a route from Piccadilly to Parliament Square. According to nye.london, standing room is free and the grandstands open at 12:00 pm. No 2027 grandstand price has been published: the 2026 prices were £75 and £185 (a secondary, unofficial article).
Checked on against nye.london and gov.uk; the organiser’s letter and pages could only be read in extracts.
The 1 January 2027 parade has not been fully published yet, and some online guides still repeat 2025 information. This article separates what is confirmed for 2027 (date, times, route, free standing room) from what is not (grandstand prices, refunds, accessible viewing, transport). It corrects two common mistakes: the start time and the direction of the route.
Date, times and route of the 2027 parade

From Piccadilly to Parliament Square
The parade starts at Piccadilly, near the Ritz and north of Green Park, where the bands gather. It heads down to Piccadilly Circus and Regent Street, crosses St James’s and Pall Mall, passes Trafalgar Square and Cockspur Street, then follows Whitehall to Parliament Street. The 2026 route, as shown in the organiser’s letter to residents from November 2025 (PDF read through a search-engine extract, not opened), remains the reference until the 2027 route is published.
What to know
- The assembly point is north of Green Park. In 2026, traffic was closed from about 2:00 am.
- The finish is at Parliament Street, heading towards Parliament Square. Whitehall is only the last long section of the route.
- The announced distance is about 2.2 miles, or 3.5 km, for a parade lasting 3 hours 30 minutes.
- One guide suggests coming back towards the end of the parade, when the crowd thins, to see better. This advice does not come from the organiser.
City-centre tour, not linked to the parade. For the 4-hour option, the listing sets the meeting point at the Sir Winston Churchill statue, Parliament Square. The Viator calendar shows open slots that day for this option (9:00 am, 1:30 pm, 1:45 pm and 2:00 pm when we checked), but we have not verified that the Abbey itself is open that day, and nye.london says most London attractions are closed that day.
The table below summarises what is confirmed for 2027 and what is still missing.

The start time and the direction of the route have changed
Earlier editions started at 12:00 pm. Some online summaries give a finish at Whitehall, but the 2026 route ends at Parliament Street. Since 2026 the parade has started at 1:00 pm: Time Out, in its November 2025 article, refers to a « new later start time », that is, a 1:00 pm start.
The current direction dates from 2010. According to Wikipedia, the route was reversed that year to suit American television broadcasters. Before 2010, the parade started at Parliament Square and finished at Green Park. Today it starts at Piccadilly and ends at Parliament Square.
For 2027, only the 4:30 pm finish is given. Accounts of 2025 differ between 3:30 pm and 4:00 pm: we do not use those times, as there is no official source for them.
Grandstands, VIP areas and tickets: what is published
The parade has two levels of access. Standing public pays nothing. Seated places are sold by the organiser, through Ticketmaster according to the pages we checked. Three paid products exist:
- The Piccadilly grandstand, near Green Park, seated and covered.
- The Whitehall VIP area, close to the finish, with hospitality.
- The Fun Zone, presented as a new 2027 feature at Waterloo Place. According to an extract from the organiser’s page, which we could not read directly (the page returned a 403 error), it would offer folding seats allocated first come, first served, food and toilets; a ticket would be required.
| Product | 2026 edition | 2027 edition |
|---|---|---|
| Piccadilly grandstand | £75 (secondary, unofficial article) | Not published |
| Whitehall VIP area | £185 (secondary, unofficial article) | Not published |
| Fun Zone, Waterloo Place | Not held | Not published; a ticket is required according to an extract we did not read directly |
| Standing public | Free | Free |

Sales. The organiser announces that VIP, grandstand and Fun Zone tickets will go on sale from 1 July. In 2026, sales opened at 9:00 am on 1 July, through Ticketmaster. The 2027 announcement page could not be read directly, and the year of this sale is not confirmed: check the official box office before you act.
Resale. Resellers list 2026 tickets at between £150 and £210, according to Xchange Tickets. These prices are not official: always compare them with the organiser’s box office before you pay.
Refunds. No refund policy has been published for 2027. The only documented precedent dates from January 2025: after a wind-related disruption, the organiser automatically refunded the affected grandstand tickets through Ticketmaster. This was a response to a disruption, not a general guarantee. The conditions are printed on your ticket.
Access for disabled visitors. No contact or procedure for disabled visitors was found in the sources we consulted. A search-engine extract mentions accessible areas at Whitehall, without details on booking, price or the documents required.
Getting there: Tube, stations, closures and security

Westminster, the finish
The parade ends at Parliament Street, a short walk from the Palace of Westminster and Big Ben. Roads stay closed for much of the day: in 2026, the organiser announced that they would reopen before 8:00 pm. Plan an exit route that does not depend on one particular street.
The Tube: the useful stations
A travel guide and the organiser’s information name the following stations. TfL has not confirmed this list for 1 January 2027, and nothing guarantees that each one will be open.
- Green Park (Piccadilly, Jubilee, Victoria): start of the parade and assembly area.
- Piccadilly Circus (Piccadilly, Bakerloo): in the heart of the route.
- Oxford Circus (Bakerloo, Victoria, Central): access to Regent Street.
- Leicester Square (Northern, Piccadilly): access to Trafalgar Square.
- Charing Cross (Bakerloo, Northern): described as the closest to the finish.
- Westminster (District, Circle, Jubilee): end of the parade.
TfL service and closures
In 2026, TfL announced a Sunday-style service on 1 January and a return to normal service on Monday 5 January. No equivalent announcement has been found for 2027: check the TfL page before you travel.
nye.london announces road closures « throughout January 1, 2027 » and bus stop diversions. The detailed 2027 plan has not been published. Most London attractions will be closed to the public that day, according to the same site.
For trains, Eurostar has opened festive bookings, but the fare calendar we checked does not cover 1 January 2027. If you are coming from Paris or Brussels, no timetable for that date was found.
Bags, toilets and food
An unofficial travel guide advises avoiding large rucksacks and suitcases, which may be searched or refused near the grandstands. No official bag policy for 2027 has been found. The organiser’s guide lists toilets and first aid near Green Park and Piccadilly; no equivalent information covers the rest of the route.
Central London also hosts New Year’s Eve on 31 December 2026: our guide to tickets and zones for London’s 2026 New Year’s Eve fireworks details access for that evening.
Weather: January in London in figures
| Indicator | Heathrow average 1991-2020 | January 2026 (Met Office, south-east) |
|---|---|---|
| Temperature (mean) | 8.4 °C by day, 2.7 °C at night | In line with the average |
| Rainfall | 58.8 mm | 188% of average |
| Sunshine | 59.1 h | 112% of average |
Source: Met Office station data, Heathrow (average calculated for this article over 1991-2020); Met Office regional summary for January 2026, published 3 February 2026. Checked on 25 October 2026.
January is cold and wet. At Heathrow the average is 8.4 °C by day and 2.7 °C at night, with 58.8 mm of rain. These figures are calculated from Met Office station data, and are not published directly by the agency.
January 2026 was very wet in south-east England: 188% of normal rainfall, with temperatures close to average.
Wind also matters. On 1 January 2025, gusts of up to 50 mph were forecast: the start was pushed back by 30 minutes, and inflatable balloons stayed on the ground on the advice of the Met Office (PA and AP, 1 January 2025).
A covered grandstand keeps the rain off, but standing spectators are exposed. There are no seats for standing public: allow about 3.5 hours on your feet between 1:00 pm and 4:30 pm.
A parade born in 1987, now international
The parade was born on 1 January 1987 as « The Lord Mayor of Westminster’s Big Parade ». It brought together about 2,000 participants, mostly bands, according to a secondary source.
- 1994: all London boroughs join the event.
- 2000: edition titled « Millennium Parade ».
- 2010: the route is reversed.
- 2021 and 2022: a virtual edition, then a reduced edition.
- 2023: 500,000 spectators, according to Wikipedia.
- 2025: the event takes the name London Parade.
- 2026: start at 1:00 pm, and a 3.5-hour special broadcast in the United States on PBS.

Bands from around the world
The organiser announces more than 8,000 artists from around the world for 2027, with no headline act published to date. The first groups announced come mainly from the United States: a Bahamas ensemble, a Florida ensemble, a high school band from Georgia (announced 30 October 2025) and a university band from Alabama. The full list has not been published.
The organiser estimates the 2027 crowd at more than 500,000 people. Time Out talks of nearly half a million in 2025. Wikipedia cites « around one million » without a precise source: we do not use that figure.
In the United States, PBS broadcast a 3.5-hour special called « The London Parade 2026 » in 2026. For the UK, we found no BBC, Sky News or ITV broadcast for 2025 or 2026. We do not claim one.
What other guides don’t tell you
- The start has been at 1:00 pm since 2026, not 12:00 pm. Guides that give 12:00 pm describe earlier editions. Time Out, November 2025 (checked 25 October 2026).
- The parade finishes at Parliament Street, not Whitehall. The organiser’s 2026 route shows this, and the current direction dates from 2010. Organiser’s letter, November 2025 (checked 25 October 2026).
- Roads are closed all day on 1 January 2027. Guides do not give the length of the closures, whereas nye.london refers to closures « throughout January 1, 2027 ». nye.london (checked 25 October 2026).
- Most London attractions are closed on 1 January. Do not plan a museum visit that day without checking its status first. nye.london (checked 25 October 2026).
- January’s averages can be quantified. Guides say « cold and wet » without figures. At Heathrow the 1991-2020 average is 8.4 °C by day and 2.7 °C at night, with 58.8 mm of rain (calculated from station data). Met Office, Heathrow data (checked 25 October 2026).
Before you go: entry rules and mobile data
Two things to sort out before you travel: the entry authorisation if you are not a British or Irish passport holder, and mobile data once you land.
ETA: British and Irish passport holders do not need one. Most visitors from Europe, the United States, Canada and Australia need an electronic travel authorisation (ETA) rather than a visa. It costs £20, according to gov.uk, checked on 25 October 2026. Check whether you need one with the official gov.uk tool before you book: other sites display different amounts, so trust only the official figure.

Plans by data allowance and duration, prices on the Airalo siteFrequently asked questions about the 2027 parade
What time does the 1 January 2027 parade start?
The parade is announced from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm, according to nye.london and ticket listings. Paid grandstands open at 12:00 pm. Guides that give 12:00 pm as the start are describing earlier editions. Guides advise arriving early for a standing spot, but the organiser does not publish a recommended arrival time.
What is the parade route?
The route starts at Piccadilly, near the Ritz and north of Green Park. It passes Piccadilly Circus, Regent Street, St James’s, Pall Mall, Trafalgar Square and Whitehall, then ends at Parliament Street, towards Parliament Square. The 2026 route is the reference: no detailed plan has yet been published for 2027. The announced distance is about 3.5 km.
How much do grandstand tickets cost?
No 2027 price is published in the sources we checked on 25 October 2026. In 2026, a secondary article gave £75 for the Piccadilly grandstand and £185 for the Whitehall VIP area. These figures do not predict 2027. Tickets resold by intermediaries often cost more: check the price on the organiser’s box office.
Is the parade free?
Yes, for standing spectators who find a place along the route, as confirmed by nye.london and Time Out. Seated grandstands and the VIP area are paid. The Fun Zone, reported for 2027 at Waterloo Place by an extract from the organiser’s page, would also be paid. Standing spectators need no booking.
When do 2027 tickets go on sale?
The organiser announces sales from 1 July for VIP, grandstand and Fun Zone tickets. We could not confirm this from a page we read directly: check the date and year on the official box office. In 2026, sales opened at 9:00 am on 1 July, through Ticketmaster.
Can I get a grandstand ticket refunded?
No refund policy has been published for 2027. The conditions are printed on your ticket. In January 2025, after a wind-related disruption, the organiser automatically refunded the affected grandstand tickets through Ticketmaster. That was a response to a disruption, not a general refund policy.
Which Tube station should I use for the parade?
Green Park (Piccadilly, Jubilee, Victoria) is the start. Piccadilly Circus and Oxford Circus serve the heart of the route, and Westminster or Charing Cross are near the finish. This list comes from a travel guide: TfL has not published its service status for 1 January 2027. Check tfl.gov.uk before you travel.
Do I need an ETA to visit the UK for the parade?
It depends on your passport. British and Irish passport holders do not need one. Most visitors from Europe, the United States, Canada and Australia do: the ETA costs £20 according to gov.uk and is applied for online before you travel. Without one, you will normally not be allowed to board.
Is the parade shown on TV?
In the United States, PBS broadcast a 3.5-hour special in 2026. We found no BBC, Sky News or ITV broadcast for 2025 or 2026. No broadcast is announced for 2027 as at the date we checked.
