As of 5 November 2026, no 2026 lighting date has been found: the Seville City Council website could not be consulted. In 2025, the lights came on Saturday 29 November at 5:30 pm and stayed on until 6 January, across 304 streets. The 2026 forecasts are not official.
Checked on against the official sources cited (extracts from the Seville City Council, the cathedral Chapter’s rates page) and the dated guides listed at the end of the article.
Christmas in Seville plays out across the city centre, from Plaza Nueva to the cathedral, from late November to 6 January. This guide separates what is confirmed, what is expected and what we could not find. No 2026 lighting date has been found, and several figures in circulation date from 2021 or 2024. You will find the walking route, the calendar, the markets, the cabalgata on 5 January, the prices checked on 5 November 2026 and the points other guides leave out.
1. The walking route: from the Setas to the Puerta de Jerez

The lights trail, about an hour and a half
The best-documented route starts on Calle Feria, in front of the Omnium Sanctorum church, passes Plaza de la Encarnación and the Setas, Plaza de la Alfalfa, Plaza Nueva, Plaza de San Francisco, Avenida de la Constitución and the cathedral, then ends at the Puerta de Jerez. It has 18 stops and takes about an hour and a half, according to the 2025 edition published by Seville Traveller, Christmas lights walk.
Highlights of the route
- The Setas, the first highlight of the route, with the installations on Plaza de la Encarnación.
- Plaza Nueva, home to the town hall, is on the route.
- The cathedral and Plaza del Triunfo at the end of the route, with the Giralda and the Alcázar nearby.
This small-group walking tour suits anyone who wants to see the historic centre by day. It is a different thing from the lights trail: its focus is the city, not the decorations. The best time is before 6:30 pm, when the lighting starts in 2025-2026. Be aware: do not book it expecting the switch-on or the cabalgata, because neither is part of it.
2. Lights 2026: no date found, and the 2025 precedent
In 2025, Seville City Council held a public switch-on with the Municipal Band: Saturday 29 November at 5:30 pm, on Avenida de la Constitución, according to an extract from its news page that we were able to read. Several guides give Friday 28 November; we keep the City Council’s date. The council’s website could not be consulted directly on 5 November 2026.
For 2026, no switch-on date has been found. Blogs and agencies say late November, between 26 and 28 November, or « not before the 20th ». These are forecasts: do not treat them as a date. If you need to book accommodation before an announcement, leave some margin.
Lighting hours for 2025-2026 were 6:30 pm to midnight, extended to 1 am on 24 and 31 December and on 5 January. Blogs for 2026 repeat them without confirming them. For a wider Spanish Christmas, our guide to Christmas in Madrid lets you compare.
| Item | 2025-2026 edition | 2026-2027 edition |
|---|---|---|
| Switch-on | Saturday 29 November 2025, 5:30 pm, Avenida de la Constitución (official source, extract) | No date found; forecast for late November (26-28 November) by media and agencies |
| Lighting hours | 6:30 pm to midnight; 1 am on 24 and 31 December and 5 January | Repeated by blogs, not confirmed in the sources we read |
| End of lighting | 6 January 2026 | No date found; end expected early January 2027 |
| Cabalgata of the Three Kings | 5 January 2026, departure around 4:15 pm according to the press | Central route not found; South district parade on the morning of 6 January 2027 |

The figure most often quoted is 304 streets, squares and avenues in 2025, against 294 in 2024 and 287 in 2022. The 2025 budget is close to €2 million, €368,143.45 more than in 2024.
3. Avenida de la Constitución: light trees and the Feria del Belén
Avenida de la Constitución is the main axis of the lighting: lit trees line the avenue between the cathedral and the Puerta de Jerez. Suspended installations are reported on the same stretch, in guides that are either undated or dated 2025.
The Feria del Belén, a fair selling figurines and crib accessories run by the local traders’ association, takes over the avenue at the corner of Calle Fray Ceferino González. It ran from 8 November to 23 December 2025, and its opening hours are in the table in section 4. The 2026 dates (8 November to 23 December) are provisional, taken from directories and agency sites.
A common mix-up: the Belén del Arquillo, the large monumental nativity scene of the City Council, is not on the avenue. It sits under the arcades of the town hall, on Plaza de San Francisco, and guides that place it on the avenue get the location wrong. According to guides, entry is free.
4. Christmas markets: where, when, and what is still to be confirmed
The table covers the 2025-2026 editions as listed in guides, and the 2026-2027 dates where they exist. Until the organisers publish their programmes, the 2026 dates remain provisional.
| Market | Location | 2025-2026 edition | 2026-2027 edition |
|---|---|---|---|
| Feria del Belén | Avenida de la Constitución, corner of Calle Fray Ceferino González | 8 November to 23 December 2025; Mon-Fri 10:30 am-2 pm and 5-9 pm; Sat-Sun 11 am-2:30 pm and 4-9 pm | 8 November to 23 December 2026 (provisional) |
| Feria de Artesanía Creativa | Jardines de Cristina | 5 December 2025 to 5 January 2026; 11 am-3 pm and 5-9 pm; closed 25 December and 1 January | 5 December 2026 to 5 January 2027 (provisional, venue to be confirmed) |
| Magdalena market | Plaza de la Magdalena | 5 December to 6 January; 11 am-3 pm and 5-9 pm | Not confirmed |
| Navidad en la Alameda | Alameda de Hércules | 5 December to 6 January | Not confirmed |
| Setas market (Setalandia) | Plaza de la Encarnación | Late November to early January; sources give 25 or 28 November as the start; 11 am-10 pm according to one source | Not confirmed |
Source: Seville Traveller, Christmas markets (updated 2 December 2025); Visitas Sevilla, 2025 Christmas guide (PDF, extracts); Altaiturismo (2026 page, provisional dates); checked on 5 November 2026.
For the Feria de Artesanía, sources disagree on 24 and 31 December: check the organiser’s programme before going on those days.
5. The 5 January cabalgata and the 2027 parade

On 5 January 2026: departure around 4:15 pm, arrival around 10 pm
In 2026, the cabalgata of the Three Kings was due to leave around 4:15 pm from the old Fábrica de Tabacos, on the University of Seville site, and arrive around 10 pm, according to the local press (OKDiario, 5 January 2026). Some sources say 4 pm. The durations given do not agree, so do not rely on a single figure until the official programme is out.
What to plan for
- The Isabel II and Los Remedios bridges are closed while the procession passes, along with several streets in the centre (Menéndez y Pelayo, Prado, Ronda Histórica, Feria, Correduría and Campana).
- Tussam journeys are free from 3 pm on 5 January 2026, with extra capacity of up to 100% on lines into the centre (El Español, 2 January 2026).
- The metro serves the procession at Nervión, San Bernardo and Blas Infante stations. The recommended departure stops are San Bernardo, Prado de San Sebastián and Puerta de Jerez.
For 2027, no central route has been found. The South district (Polígono Sur) has published the assignment terms for four floats for a parade on the morning of 6 January 2027. It is the only 2027 parade documented by an official source, and it is not an official programme. Agencies announce 5 January 2027 without confirmation.
6. Cathedral, Giralda and Alcázar: tickets and closing days
The cathedral and the Giralda are sold as a combined ticket: €13 online and €14 at the box office, according to the Chapter’s official page for 2026. The Giralda cannot be bought separately. The Chapter says the 2026 hours are the same as in 2025. Visit aggregators disagree, so check the Chapter’s page.

The Real Alcázar: closures and tickets
The Real Alcázar is closed on 25 December, according to several sources. For 24 and 31 December, a Christmas 2025 announcement mentions morning opening only, while guides give the usual hours. It is closed on 1 January according to guides. Check these dates on the Alcázar’s website before planning your visit.
General hours, given by an undated guide, are 9:30 am to 5 pm from October to March, and 9:30 am to 7 pm from April to September. For choosing between a private visit and a group ticket, our comparison of Alcázar of Seville visits sets out the options.
Booking or not. No booking is required for the lights, the markets or the nativity scenes. For the Alcázar, a skip-the-line ticket exists, with no price checked. For the cathedral, guides advise booking in high season, though the Chapter has not confirmed this.
8. Budget: what is free and what is not
Most of the outing is free: the lights, the markets and the nativity scenes in churches and convents. The table summarises the items and how well each price is confirmed.
| Item | Price checked | Source status |
|---|---|---|
| Lights and streets | Free | Consistent sources |
| Christmas markets | Free entry according to guides; no stall prices found | Guides only |
| Church and convent nativity scenes | Free for most | Guides; hours vary |
| Cathedral and Giralda | €13 online; €14 at the box office | Chapter’s official page, 2026 |
| Navigalia | €2 quoted by one guide | Not confirmed |
| Setalandia | Not found | No figure cited here |
| Real Alcázar | Not checked | To check on the Alcázar’s website |
Source: Cathedral Chapter of Seville (2026 rates); guides cited in this article; checked on 5 November 2026.
For a low-budget outing, the route, the markets and the cabalgata cost nothing according to the sources we read. Add the cathedral if you want to climb the Giralda.
9. Transport, safety and accessibility
The historic centre is best explored on foot, along narrow, cobbled streets that are sometimes steep. Buses with wheelchair spaces and adapted taxis operate. Commercial accessibility guides describe routes, but no official information describes the lights trail for people with reduced mobility.
A police union warned in May 2026 about pickpockets targeting tourists in Seville. Calle Mateos Gago, near the cathedral and the Alcázares, is among the areas flagged (The Spanish Eye, 21 May 2026). The basic advice still applies: keep your bag closed, keep your phone and wallet in an inside pocket, and stay alert in queues and on public transport. In an emergency, the European number is 112.
If Seville is only one stop on your trip to Spain, our five-day itinerary through Andalusia, covering Seville, Córdoba and Granada helps you fit the city into a longer route.
10. Weather: a warm layer for the evenings
No December average has been extracted for Seville, so do not rely on a blog figure. For Andalusia, December 2025 averaged 9.4 °C, 0.2 °C below normal (AEMET). Bring a warm layer for the evenings when the lights are on.
What other guides don’t tell you
The points below appear in official sources or dated documents, and are missing or wrong in several popular guides.
- The €1,022,171 budget is not the 2025 figure. That amount comes from a tender published on 8 July 2021 for installing lights on 287 streets. The 2025 budget is around €2 million, up €368,143.45 on 2024, according to the City Council. Vivir Ediciones, 2021 tender and sevilla.org, Navidad 2025 (extract) (both checked on 5 November 2026).
- There were 304 streets, squares and avenues lit in 2025. Guides often say « around 300 » or repeat the 287 streets of 2021-2022. The 2025 figure comes from the City Council’s news (sevilla.org, extract, checked on 5 November 2026).
- No source we read mentions a Puente de la Constitución in Seville. The Puente de la Constitución de 1812 is in Cádiz, where it opened on 24 September 2015 (Wikipedia, Cádiz bridge, checked on 5 November 2026). Some guides suggest it, probably confusing it with Seville’s illuminated bridges.
- The 2027 cabalgata has no published central route. The published bases of the South district foresee a parade on the morning of 6 January 2027, with four floats (femas.es, South district, checked on 5 November 2026). Guides that describe a 2027 route are extrapolating from the 2026 edition.
Practical information for your stay
The Christmas trading period allowed in Andalusia starts on the Sunday after the fourth Thursday of November, so 29 November 2026 at the earliest. Exact dates vary from shop to shop. A June 2026 resolution would allow shops in Seville to open on 8 December 2026: check the official text before relying on it.
Friday 25 December 2026 is a public holiday. 6 December falls on a Sunday, so the holiday moves to Monday 7 December. 8 December, the Immaculate Conception, is a public holiday on Tuesday.
