The UEFA Champions Festival 2026 is the official Champions League fan-fest — free and open to everyone, no ticket required. It takes place at Heroes’ Square (Hősök tere) in Budapest from Thursday 28 to Sunday 31 May 2026, opening at 10:00 each day. Highlights include a photo with the UCL trophy, interactive football challenges, daily DJ sets and a live broadcast of the PSG vs Arsenal final on the big screen. Take the M1 metro to Hősök tere — 9 minutes from the city centre.
You’ve made it to Budapest for the Champions League final, but tickets for the Puskás Aréna are out of reach? Good news: UEFA has something for you. The Champions Festival is the official fan-fest set up in the heart of Budapest — on the magnificent UNESCO-listed Heroes’ Square — where supporters from around the world gather to experience final week without spending a penny on entry. The Istanbul 2023 and Munich 2025 editions each drew 120,000 visitors over four days. Budapest, with the PSG vs Arsenal line-up, is expected to surpass that figure.
1. What is the UEFA Champions Festival 2026?

Heroes’ Square, Budapest — 28–31 May 2026
According to UEFA.com, the Champions Festival is the official public event organised by UEFA alongside every Champions League final. It is far more than a giant screen: it is a football village that transforms an iconic city landmark into a four-day football theme park. The 2026 Budapest edition marks a historic first — it is the first time Hungary has hosted the Champions League final.
Heroes’ Square (Hősök tere) is Budapest’s largest public square, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of Andrássy Avenue. Dominated by the Millennium Monument — a 36-metre column topped by the Archangel Gabriel — the square has held up to 250,000 people, including the 1989 state funeral of Imre Nagy. UEFA installs stages, temporary structures, partner activations and giant screens here for the four days of the Festival.
Key highlights
- Completely free entry — no ticket, no booking required
- UNESCO iconic venue — Heroes’ Square, at the top of Andrássy Avenue
- Direct M1 metro access, yellow line, Hősök tere station (9 min from centre)
- 120,000 visitors expected over 4 days — atmosphere guaranteed
2. Programme and activities at the Champions Festival

Trophy photo, interactive challenges, live concerts
According to the official UEFA guide, the Festival offers the following activities every day, open to all from 10:00:
Photo with the Champions League trophy. The Festival’s flagship attraction: the famous trophy with the ‘big ears’ is on display daily for fans to photograph alongside. Note: the trophy is absent on the afternoon of 30 May (final day), as it is transported to the Puskás Aréna. If this photo is your priority, plan your visit on Thursday, Friday or Saturday morning. At Munich 2025, queues could exceed 30 minutes at peak times — arrive before 11:30.
Interactive football challenges and partner activations. The stands of UEFA’s official partners (Adidas, PlayStation) offer immersive activities: a shooting simulator to measure your strike power, a five-a-side indoor pitch, EA Sports FC video simulations, and an Adidas zone where the new official Budapest 2026 match ball — a metallic violet base with lion and dragon motifs — takes centre stage.
Live music, DJ sets and roaming artist performances. Each Festival day features concerts and musical performances. UEFA promises « live music, DJ sets and roaming artist performances ». At Munich 2025, Sebastian Ingrosso (Swedish House Mafia) headlined the Friday evening set. The detailed artist line-up for Budapest had not yet been announced at the time of writing.
Final broadcast on the big screen (30 May, 18:00 CEST). The most anticipated moment for supporters without a ticket: the PSG vs Arsenal final is broadcast live on the Festival’s giant screen. Tens of thousands of fans gathered on Heroes’ Square — an official UEFA communal atmosphere that few other places in Budapest will be able to match that evening.
Hungarian street food. Food concessions offer local specialities: lángos (fried dough topped with soured cream and cheese), kürtőskalács (chimney cake, a spiral pastry typical of Hungarian markets), local beer and official drinks. Prices are higher than standard Budapest levels — the event setting brings costs closer to Western European levels.
Key highlights
- Photo with the UCL trophy — the Festival’s most popular activity
- Adidas and PlayStation zones — official interactive challenges
- Concerts and DJ sets included in free entry
- PSG vs Arsenal final broadcast live on the big screen
- Hungarian street food — lángos, kürtőskalács, local beers
3. The Ultimate Champions Legends Tournament (UCLT)

Figo, Cafu, Rakitić, Juhász — Friday 29 May (sold out)
On Friday 29 May 2026, a separate event from the Festival takes place at the Papp László Budapest Sportaréna (Stefánia út 2, Budapest): the Ultimate Champions Legends Tournament (UCLT). This six-a-side indoor tournament brings together European football legends in an electrifying 11,000-capacity arena. According to UEFA.com, the four confirmed captains for the 2026 edition are:
- Luís Figo — Portugal, former Barcelona and Real Madrid, Ballon d’Or 2000
- Cafu — Brazil, former AS Roma and AC Milan, two-time World Cup winner
- Ivan Rakitić — Croatia, former FC Barcelona, 2018 World Cup finalist
- Roland Juhász — Hungary, the only local representative — a meaningful symbol for Hungarian fans
Tickets for the UCLT have been sold out for several weeks, according to Jegy.hu. Some are circulating on resale platforms at prices above face value — we do not recommend this option. If you don’t have a ticket, the legends’ atmosphere will also be felt at the Champions Festival: former player appearances are regularly organised within the official fan-fest.
4. Practical tips for making the most of the Festival

Transport, weather and local rules in Budapest
Getting to Heroes’ Square. The simplest option is the M1 metro (yellow line), the second oldest metro line in the world (opened in 1896). Take the M1 to Hősök tere station — approximately 9 minutes from Vörösmarty tér (city centre), with a train every 5 minutes. A single ticket costs around 530 HUF (~£1.20); the 72-hour pass (~£12) pays for itself after 10 journeys. The metro exit opens directly onto the square. According to Van Budapest, you can also walk from the State Opera House along Andrássy Avenue — 2.5 km along a UNESCO boulevard, around 30–40 minutes.
30 May: avoid the Puskás Aréna area. On final day, traffic restrictions are in place around the stadium from 13:00. The M2 towards the Puskás Aréna (Stadionok station) could see 20–45 minute waits between 14:00 and 17:30. For those staying at the Festival (Hősök tere, M1 line), the impact is far more limited — watching the final on the big screen is a much more relaxed option than trying to get close to the stadium.
Late May weather in Budapest. Late May is one of the finest times to visit Budapest: daytime temperatures of 17–27°C, with cool evenings (8–12°C). According to AccuWeather, May sees around 14 rainy days with possible afternoon thunderstorms — pack a compact waterproof jacket for Festival evenings outdoors.
Important local rules. Drinking alcohol in Budapest’s public spaces is prohibited and carries a fine of 5,000–50,000 HUF. This rule applies around Heroes’ Square. Consuming within the Festival’s designated licensed areas is legal. Hungary uses the forint (HUF), not the pound: £1 ≈ 490–510 HUF. Keep some cash for unexpected expenses outside the Festival — local cafés and smaller markets sometimes accept forint only.
For accommodation during final week, city-centre hotels are showing rates two to three times above normal. See our selection of the best hotels for UCL week in Budapest, with options to suit every budget and location preference.
Key highlights
- M1 yellow line — the fastest and easiest way to reach Heroes’ Square
- Stay on M1 on 30 May — avoid the chaos on M2 towards the stadium
- Pack a light waterproof — afternoon thunderstorms are possible
- Download Budapest maps offline — networks will be saturated on 30 May
5. What to do in Budapest during UCL week

Széchenyi, Andrássy, ruin bars and Danube cruises
Heroes’ Square is surrounded by an exceptional range of attractions within easy walking distance. Széchenyi Thermal Baths (Széchenyi Gyógyfürdő), just 500 metres from the square, is one of Europe’s largest spa complexes with 18 pools fed by natural springs 100 metres underground. A perfect way to unwind the day before or after the Festival — budget £21–26 and book online (capacity is limited, even more so during final week). Directly behind Heroes’ Square lies Városliget (City Park), home to Vajdahunyad Castle — a free, shaded stroll ideal between Festival sessions.
For supporters wanting to explore Budapest before the final, Andrássy Avenue stretches 2.5 km from Heroes’ Square to the city centre — the ‘Hungarian Champs-Élysées’, UNESCO-listed, lined with the State Opera House, historic cafés and the House of Terror Museum at No. 60, the former Gestapo torture chamber. In the evening, District VII (Erzsébetváros) is home to the famous ruin bars: Szimpla Kert (Kazinczy u. 14), the iconic address, or the 6:3 Borozó — named after Hungary’s legendary 6–3 victory over England in 1953 — which will certainly be screening the final.
Key highlights
- Széchenyi Thermal Baths 500 m away — 18 thermal pools, book in advance
- Városliget free — ideal park between Festival sessions
- Andrássy Avenue UNESCO — 2.5 km cultural walk to the city centre
- Ruin bars District VII — Szimpla Kert, 6:3 Borozó for the final
