Verona’s Christmas market 2026 runs from Friday 20 November to Sunday 27 December 2026, according to the organiser. The opening ceremony takes place on Saturday 21 November at 5 pm in Piazza Bra. The market spans three squares, open from 10 am to 9 pm, and until 11 pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

Checked on against the organiser’s site and the transport and parking sources cited, some dating from 2025.

Planning a trip to Verona for the end of the year? The Christmas market runs for five weeks, from 20 November to 27 December 2026, across three squares in the city centre. This guide sets out the dates, hours and places published by the organiser, then what to check before you leave: access, shuttles, budget, and the points where other guides get it wrong.

1. Dates, hours and key days

The market opens on Friday 20 November 2026 and closes on Sunday 27 December 2026, according to the official page of the organiser, Natale in Piazza. The opening ceremony is on Saturday 21 November at 5 pm in Piazza Bra: it is the only fixed event of the launch. The 2026-2027 season has not been published yet, so no end date for 2027 should be inferred from past seasons.

Hours follow a simple pattern, with exceptions around Christmas. The table uses the 2026 official page, which is the only source to cite for hours. Some guides give an end date of 26 or 28 December, which does not match the 2026 official page.

Four dates need a closer look:

  • Saturday 21 November: opening ceremony at 5 pm in Piazza Bra, which launches the season.
  • Tuesday 8 December: Immacolata, a public holiday in Italy. Monday 7 December can serve as a bridge, which stretches the weekend and can push up crowds.
  • Wednesday 9 December: reduced hours, 10 am to 3:30 pm. Not the right day for an evening visit.
  • 24 to 27 December: hours change almost every day. On the 25th it only opens at 4 pm, and on the 27th, the last day, it closes at 6 pm.

Around 13 December, the Santa Lucia stalls have traditionally been set up in the city, and specialist guides place them in Piazza Bra. Their 2026 dates are not confirmed; the FAQ covers this.

For a wider view, the Christmas markets of Alto Adige, such as Bolzano, Merano and Bressanone, run until 6 January 2027, while Verona’s closes on 27 December. Our guide to the Christmas markets of Bolzano, Merano, Trento and Bressanone compares the two calendars.

2. Three squares, three moods

Piazza Bra holds the main market, next to the Arena. Piazza dei Signori is the historic square. Piazza Sacco e Vanzetti occupies the former Arsenal. The organiser gives a name to each of the three squares for 2026. The table sums up what its page confirms for each one, without adding what guides assume.

The three squares are linked on foot through the historic centre. Start in Piazza Bra, walk down to Piazza dei Signori via Via Mazzini or Via Roma, then finish in the former Arsenal, where Piazza Sacco e Vanzetti is. Local guides say the walk from Piazza Bra to Piazza dei Signori takes a few minutes.

3. Piazza Bra, the heart of the market

Piazza Bra hosts the main market, next to the Arena, the Roman amphitheatre that dominates the square. The opening ceremony takes place here on 21 November. The Stella Cometa, a steel star hung above the square on the Arena side, is the market’s symbol. The organiser announces the ceremony at 5 pm on 21 November but does not say when the star will be lit. For the amphitheatre itself, its visits and its opera nights, our article Arena di Verona 2026: 8 visits to combine with an opera night covers the options.

Highlights

  • The main market, with the chalets and the 21 November opening.
  • The view of the Arena, which serves as the backdrop to the Stella Cometa.
  • Direct access on foot to the rest of the centre from the square.
Pixidia tip: on weekdays, arrive before noon if you want to avoid the crowds. No 2025 attendance figures published by the city were found. Guides rate weekends and the days close to Christmas as busier.

To see the Arena up close, a few steps from the market, a private walking tour of Verona includes priority access to the Roman arena, according to the product description. It lasts 150 minutes with a dedicated guide and has 19 reviews, rated 5.0. It is open on 33 of the 38 dates in the market window, based on availability checked on 6 November 2026.

4. Piazza dei Signori, the historic square

Piazza dei Signori, « Il Villaggio Flover »

Free access Busy on 8 Dec Historic palaces Historic centre

The historic square is surrounded by palaces, most of which, according to the sources consulted, are not open to visitors, and a statue of Dante stands at its centre. For 2026, the organiser’s site names the square « Il Villaggio Flover ». Several guides place a German-style Christkindlmarkt here, and the name has a historical basis: the first German-style market on this spot was opened in December 2008 by the Christkind of Nuremberg, after a cooperation between the two cities signed in 2006 and a declaration of friendship in 2007, according to the City of Nuremberg. A German market under this name in 2026 is not confirmed by the organiser. In 2025, the two neighbouring courtyards, Cortile Mercato Vecchio and Cortile del Tribunale, hosted chalets, and their 2026 use has not been published.

Highlights

  • The historic link with Nuremberg, documented by the German city since 2008.
  • The atmosphere of the old palaces, visible from the square without a ticket.
  • The nearby Mercato Vecchio and Tribunale courtyards, which hosted chalets in 2025.
Pixidia tip: on 8 December, a public holiday, get to Piazza dei Signori early if you want a quieter slot. Before you plan your visit around a German-style chalet, check that the 2026 programme confirms it.

5. Piazza Sacco e Vanzetti, the world of ice

Piazza Sacco e Vanzetti, « Il Magico Mondo del Ghiaccio »

Rink fee: not published Family area 2026 events not published

The last of the three squares, Piazza Sacco e Vanzetti, occupies the former Arsenal. The organiser presents it as a family area built around ice. Several guides mention a skating rink, but the official page confirms neither its opening, nor its 2026 dates, nor its price at the time of checking. The skating rinks found in the searches for Verona concern past editions. A rink price quoted in regional press concerns another city and should not be used as a reference for Verona.

Highlights

  • A space designed for families, built around ice according to the organiser.
  • An unusual setting, in a former military building turned into a city venue.
Pixidia tip: with children, don’t build the day around the rink until the organiser’s site announces it. Check a few days before you leave.

6. Getting there: train, airport, car and shuttles

By train

Verona Porta Nuova is the station for long-distance and regional trains. Frecciarossa and Italo services from Milan Centrale take about 1 h 15 to Porta Nuova, and the Trenord regional about 1 h 50, according to the Treniamo aggregator, which reprints the 2026 timetable. From Venice, the regional RV 3477 takes 1 h 28 to Porta Nuova, according to a 2026 infomobility notice found in the research. Check it for your travel date. That notice also flags changes on the Verona–Venice line from 12 October to 18 December 2026. The 2026 timetable runs until 12 December: after that, recheck the journey for your exact date.

From the station to Piazza Bra, allow about fifteen minutes on foot. It is the simplest option, and it avoids the parking question.

By air

Valerio Catullo airport is at Villafranca. The Airlink service links Porta Nuova to the airport for a €7 supplement on top of the rail ticket. It runs every 20 minutes at peak times and every 40 minutes otherwise. According to the Trenitalia page (© 2025), the first departure from Porta Nuova is at 5:15 am and the last at 10:50 pm; from the airport, the first is at 5:35 am and the last at 11:10 pm. These times date from 2025: check them before you book a night flight.

By car and in the limited traffic zone

The historic centre is a limited traffic zone (ZTL). AMT says bicycles and motorbikes are not subject to the restriction. Blue-zone parking costs €1 per 30 minutes and €2 per hour, according to AMT rates from 2025. For a visitor by car, the most sensible option is to park on the outskirts and reach the centre by shuttle. Rates for the Fiera car park and the garage near the Arena have not been verified: don’t take them for granted.

Shuttles

The organiser announces a free shuttle, but no 2026 timetable is published at the time of checking. The last known timetable is the ATV one for 2025. Line 78 linked Park Genovesa, Park P3 Fiera and Corso Porta Nuova. Line 79 linked Park Stadio A, Castelvecchio and Via Diaz. The service was free on Saturdays, Sundays and 8 December, and suspended on Hellas match days, according to the ATV page for 2025. A specialist site announces a shuttle every 15 minutes at weekends, from 18 November to 24 December, between Genovesa, P3 Fiera and the centre. The organiser does not repeat this: it remains a third-party announcement.

7. Budget on site

The market does not display an entry fee. The cost of the day therefore depends mostly on what you eat, what you buy and how you travel. The table groups only the published or dated prices. Guide estimates are given separately, because none of them is official.

The official page displays no entry fee; guides speak of free access to the three squares. No source consulted prices the illuminations. The shuttle is announced as free, subject to its 2026 timetable. Chalet products, mulled wine and food are not covered by any published price list: each stallholder sets its own prices.

Very few seats are available near the stalls: plan to eat standing up or move to the nearby spaces, according to one food guide. Another guide points to the permanent food market at Piazza Isolo (Thursday and Saturday, outside the Christmas market) as a cheaper alternative, to be checked.

Budget guides give rough orders of magnitude. A sit-down meal would cost between €25 and €45, according to a budget guide. A dessert or a street-food dish would cost between €3 and €10, according to a food guide. These ranges are estimates, not prices: use them to build a budget, not to fix one.

8. Which profile, which visit

Families

Piazza Sacco e Vanzetti is the space designed for children, with the « Il Magico Mondo del Ghiaccio » theme. The 2026 programme of events is not published: plan a visit to the square without counting on a specific show. On 8 December, the Immacolata holiday can lengthen the day, and younger children need a short walk between squares. A two-part route, Piazza Bra in the morning and Piazza Sacco e Vanzetti in the afternoon, limits back-and-forth.

Couples

For a couple, the main backdrop is Piazza Bra: the Stella Cometa hangs over the chalets on the Arena side. To extend the outing, the Arena offers visits and opera nights, covered in our article on the amphitheatre. If you want a guided walk of the city alongside the market, the private walking tour in section 3 lasts 150 minutes.

Small budget

No entry fee is displayed on the official page, and chalet prices are not published. According to guides, a street-food dish or a dessert costs €3 to €10, against €25 to €45 for a sit-down meal. The Presepi dal Mondo are free on the first Sunday of the month, provided you check the date. Visiting the three squares is done on foot; the main cost remains the train ticket, and no 2026 fare appears in the research.

First visit

One day is enough to see the three squares. Several guides note that the market is smaller and less overwhelming than the big markets in Germany and Austria. Keep half a day for the Arena or a city visit, which fit easily around the market. No visitor review dated 2026 has been found; field guides are the only references available. The number of chalets varies by source, from 60 to around 100: no figure is retained here.

Reduced mobility

For someone with reduced mobility, the first question is distance. The station is about fifteen minutes on foot from Piazza Bra, and the announced shuttles are not confirmed for 2026. The research contains no accessibility data for the route between the three squares (surfaces, ramps, adapted buses): ask the organiser, Natale in Piazza, or the City of Verona before you go.

9. A day on site, step by step

This route is an editorial suggestion based on the hours and distances in this article, not official data. It assumes you arrive by train in the morning.

  1. Arrival at Porta Nuova. Allow about fifteen minutes on foot to Piazza Bra. Starting with the largest square means you see the main market first.
  2. Morning at Piazza Bra. The chalets, the Arena opposite and the Stella Cometa form the main backdrop of the visit.
  3. Lunch near Piazza dei Signori. Walk down via Via Mazzini or Via Roma. The square is quieter on weekdays, except on 8 December.
  4. Afternoon at Piazza Sacco e Vanzetti. Check the day’s programme on the organiser’s site. Leave enough time to reach the station, and look up the last train time before you leave the square.

10. Mistakes to avoid

A few mistakes come up again and again in guides and forums. They mostly cost time on site.

  • Driving into the centre without checking the ZTL. The shuttle announced for 2026 leaves from the outskirts, so park there.
  • Booking a train without checking the timetable after 12 December. The 2026 timetable available runs only until then.
  • Assuming the Presepi dal Mondo are free every day. The free entry applies to the first Sunday of the month only, according to voloscontato.it.
  • Looking for the Presepi under the Arena arches. A secondary source places the 2026 exhibition at Palazzo Gran Guardia.
  • Expecting a seat at the stalls. Seating is scarce: plan a standing lunch or a meal in the nearby spaces.
  • Forgetting that 8 December is a public holiday. The Immacolata holiday brings extra visitors and can change the transport you expect, so plan the day with that in mind.

What other guides don’t tell you

These points come from the organiser’s official page, consulted on 6 November 2026. They are missing or wrong in the guides we read. The page carries a « Copyright 2025 » footer: the 2026 dates appear in the header, but check them when the market opens on 20 November.

  • The market ends on Sunday 27 December 2026, at 6 pm. Several guides give 26 or 28 December, which the official page does not use. nataleinpiazza.it (consulted on 6 November 2026).
  • Piazza dei Signori is called « Il Villaggio Flover » for 2026. Most guides describe a Christkindlmarkt without caveat, but the organiser does not confirm that name for this season. nataleinpiazza.it (consulted on 6 November 2026).
  • Piazza Sacco e Vanzetti hosts « Il Magico Mondo del Ghiaccio ». Guides do not describe this world, or present it as « to be confirmed ». nataleinpiazza.it (consulted on 6 November 2026).
  • 25 and 26 December have their own hours. On the 25th, the market opens at 4 pm and closes at 11 pm. On the 26th, it opens at 10 am and closes at 11 pm. Some guides repeat hours from earlier years. nataleinpiazza.it (consulted on 6 November 2026).
  • The opening takes place on Saturday 21 November 2026 at 5 pm, in Piazza Bra. Few 2026 guides mention it, and the organiser does not say when the Stella Cometa will be lit. nataleinpiazza.it (consulted on 6 November 2026).

Check the 2026 timetable before you leave, since it can change from one year to the next.

Are the 2027 Christmas markets already announced?

No. The official page reads « Season 2026-2027: not published ». The 2027 dates circulating online are rollovers of past seasons. Wait for an announcement from the organiser before you book a stay in December 2027.

When is the Santa Lucia fair in Verona in 2026?

It is not confirmed. Traditional Santa Lucia stalls have been set up around 13 December in past seasons, according to specialist guides, but no 2026 dates are confirmed. A specialist site lists 2026 dates marked « to be confirmed ». Wait for the organiser or the city to confirm them before you fix your day.

How long does it take to visit the market?

One day is enough to see the three squares, according to field guides, who judge the market smaller than those in Germany and Austria. For a longer stay, combine the market with the Arena, whose visits and opera nights are covered in our dedicated article.
