For 1 to 3 people, take a small group capped at 9 travellers; book a private tour from 4 people, with children or if you want a guide in your own language. The official ticket costs €15.50, a small group €56 per adult for the Alcázar alone, and a private tour €150 to €264 per adult (based on 2 adults). Mind the language: 5 of the 10 offers are in English only. If you do not need a guide, the official ticket is enough.
You have decided to visit the Real Alcázar, and that is where it gets complicated: official ticket at €15.50, standard group at €38, small group at €56, private tour at €300 for two. These gaps do not describe the same visit, and nobody tells you what you are really buying on top of the entrance. I compared ten active offers on Viator, one by one, with the price per adult, the guide’s language, the duration and the cancellation policy. If you want the most battle-tested option without overthinking it, the guided tour of the Alcázar, cathedral and Giralda is the best proven of the lot, with more than 1,100 reviews.
My way of reading the offers comes down to three criteria. Price per person first: the guide costs you about €22 more than the bare ticket in a standard group, €40 in a group of 9, and a private tour is priced for the whole party, not per head. Then language, because it often goes unnoticed: out of ten tours, only four offer French, and five are in English only. Finally timing: from October to March the palace closes at 5 pm, which shortens the day and favours morning slots. I have ordered the cards from the simplest formats to the most tailor-made: group, small group, early access, then private. At the end you will find a decision framework by situation.
Why the Real Alcázar deserves a guide, or not

The Alcázar is a royal palace still in use: the Spanish royal family stays there during visits to Seville. Its core dates from the Islamic period (10th century), then Castile conquered the city in 1248 and Peter I had the Mudéjar palace built from 1364. The whole complex has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987, together with the cathedral and the Archivo General de Indias (Wikipedia). The gardens, the state rooms and the Patio de las Doncellas also served as the setting for Dorne in Game of Thrones.
The palace is perfectly easy to visit on your own, with the audio guide offered on site. The official website lists €15.50 for the general rate and €8 for the reduced rate (65 and over, students aged 14 to 30). Children under 14 accompanied by an adult enter free. Some resellers still show €14.50: stick with €15.50.
What a guide changes is the reading. Without explanation, you walk through superb rooms without knowing why an Almohad ceiling sits next to a Charles V decor. And what a skip-the-line ticket changes is the wait: a French-language blog mentions queues of up to two hours depending on the season, especially in spring and during Holy Week or the Feria. October and November are calmer, but small-group slots still fill up.
One last price benchmark: a standalone ticket for the cathedral and the Giralda costs €13 online (€14 at the box office) according to the cathedral. Two bare tickets therefore come to €28.50 to €29.50. On a combined guided tour you pay €56 to €82: the guide costs between €27 and €53 per person. It is up to you to judge whether that price is worth the explanations.
The 10 Seville Alcázar tours compared

1. The Alcázar in a group, 1 h, with a guide in several languages
This is the lowest entry price in the selection for getting a guide at all. An hour is short: you keep the essentials (royal rooms, patios, gardens) without the detail. I pick it for a first look when the budget matters, and you can always wander back through the gardens at your own pace.
- Fast-track entry and guided tour of the Alcázar
- Audio headsets to follow the guide
- Combined option with the cathedral available

2. Alcázar, cathedral and Giralda in a group, 2 h 30
This is the most proven option in my selection, with more than 1,100 reviews, and it covers the two UNESCO-listed monuments of the centre in a single morning. Against the €28.50 to €29.50 of two bare tickets, you pay about €27 for someone to open the doors and explain what you see. The catch: the sale is final, so I only book it once my dates are fixed.
- Skip-the-line entry to the Alcázar and the cathedral
- Climb of the Giralda covered by the tour
- Meeting point Plaza del Triunfo, arrive 30 min early

3. Small group of 10 at the Alcázar, 2 h, in English
Two hours, ten people at most and a 4.94 rating from 677 reviews: this is the best value for time and money if you speak English. The guide has time to answer questions, which a standard group does not allow. Bring your original ID: a photo or photocopy is refused at the entrance.
- Group limited to 10 people
- Alcázar entrance ticket included
- Meeting point Plaza del Triunfo, look for the guide with the white lanyard

4. Group of 9 maximum at the Alcázar, 1 h 30, in English
This is the benchmark small group: more than 1,000 reviews and a cap of nine people, low enough for the guide to stay audible. In the period I checked, this format was open only 9 days out of 24, so it fills up: I book it early. Cancellation stays free up to 24 h before, which is reassuring if your plans move.
- Alcázar ticket and personal audio system
- ID required at booking and at the entrance
- Meeting point Plaza del Triunfo, at the Immaculate Conception monument

5. Early access before opening, 1 h 30, in English
You walk in an hour before the official opening, when the rooms are still empty: it is the only offer in the selection that sells calm rather than the guide. It costs almost double a small group, but its 4.98 rating from 955 reviews is the highest of the list. I keep it for photographers and for high season, when queues run to tens of minutes.
- Entry one hour before the public
- Gardens included, audio headsets provided
- Meeting point Plaza del Triunfo, arrive 15 min early

6. Alcázar, cathedral and Giralda in a group of 9, 3 h, in English
The same cap of nine travellers, but across three monuments in one morning. At €82, you pay about €53 more than two bare tickets, the price of an almost private guide shared among a few people. This format was open only 7 days out of 24 when I checked: if you want it, book it before flights and hotel.
- Alcázar, cathedral and Giralda tickets included
- Personal audio system
- Official guide, three hours on foot

7. Cathedral and Giralda in a small group, without the Alcázar, 2 h
Note that this tour does not include the Alcázar: I kept it because many readers hesitate between a combined tour and two separate visits. It lets you book the palace on its own on one side and the cathedral with the Giralda on the other, each with its own guide and pace. The meeting point changes: the fountain on Plaza Virgen de los Reyes.
- Cathedral and Giralda ticket included
- Radio guides to follow the group of 10 maximum
- ID required, instructions sent by WhatsApp

8. Private Alcázar and cathedral tour, 3 h, in English or Spanish
This is the most affordable private tour on the list, and the best rated of the trio: 4.97 from 187 reviews. For a couple it comes to €300, roughly 5 times the price of the small group for two. It makes most sense for four or more, where the per-person rate drops (check the product page when you book). It is not available in French.
- Private guide, your own pace
- Alcázar, cathedral and Giralda tickets included
- Assistance from an agent if anything goes wrong

9. Private tour with a guide in your language, 3 h 30
This is the right option for a family: several languages are offered, cancellation stays free up to 24 h before, and the guide meets you on foot at a hotel in the centre. With children or someone with reduced mobility, you set the pace and the breaks yourself. Few dates were open in my checking window (10 out of 24) and the language is chosen at booking: check it before you pay.
- Alcázar, Giralda and cathedral on a private visit
- Pick-up on foot from a hotel in the centre
- Professional guide, your own pace

10. Private walking tour of Seville with Alcázar and cathedral, 3 to 4 h
This is the most expensive on the list, and the only one to step outside the walls: the Jewish quarter is added to the Alcázar, the cathedral and the Giralda. Book it for a trip where you want to understand Seville, not just tick off a palace. A flamenco museum show option is offered in the afternoon. I would only take it with a generous budget: it is a final sale, with no way back.
- Alcázar, cathedral and Giralda tickets included
- Private guide, six languages to choose from
- Wide availability in my checking window (24 days out of 24)

My decision grid. Alone or as a couple, English is fine, tight budget: take the 2-hour small group or the group of 9. You want French or another language without going over €60: the one-hour group or the combo with the cathedral. You want to see the palace before the crowd: early access. Family, children or reduced mobility: the private tour with a guide in your language. You want everything, Jewish quarter included: the full private tour.
Official ticket or guide? The €15.50 official ticket remains the best choice for a self-guided visit, with the audio guide app. I take a guide when I want to understand the palace or when the season makes the queue long. The best-selling group combo ticket in the city, rated 4.61 from more than 5,000 reviews, is not in my selection: I keep a 4.7 threshold.
Opening hours. From 1 October to 31 March, the palace is open from 9:30 am to 5 pm. From 1 April to 30 September, it closes at 7 pm. Evacuation starts 45 minutes before closing. It is closed on 1 and 6 January, Good Friday and 25 December. In winter, book a morning slot so daylight does not catch you out.
ID. Tickets are named. Several small groups require the ID provided at booking, and one of them refuses photos or photocopies. Without it, entry may be refused.
Meeting point. Most groups meet on Plaza del Triunfo, at the Immaculate Conception monument, between the Alcázar and the cathedral. Each guide carries a distinctive sign (purple t-shirt, yellow sign, white lanyard). Arrive 15 to 30 minutes early.
To extend your stay. If the Alcázar is only one stop, see my 5-day itinerary through Seville, Córdoba and Granada and my guide to choosing the right season. Aiming for spring? Read the Feria de Abril guide and the one on Semana Santa 2027, two periods when booking early becomes essential.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to enter the Seville Alcázar without a guide?
The general rate is €15.50 on the official website, with a reduced rate of €8 (65 and over, students aged 14 to 30). Children under 14 accompanied by an adult enter free. If you want a guide on top, count at least €37.50 per adult in a group. See the one-hour group.
Private tour or small group at the Alcázar: which should you choose?
For 1 to 3 people, the small group of 9 to 10 travellers (€49.50 to €56 per adult) gives you the essentials of a guide at a price close to a standard group. A private tour (€150 to €264 per adult based on 2 adults, i.e. €300 to €529 for a couple) makes sense from four people, with children, or to choose your language and time slot. See the private tour.
Which Alcázar tours offer a guide in French or another language?
Out of my ten offers, four offer French: the one-hour group, the combo with the cathedral, the 3 h 30 private tour and the private tour with the Jewish quarter. Five of the others are in English only, and the last is in English or Spanish. Always check the language selected at the moment of payment.
Do you need ID to visit the Alcázar in a group?
Yes for several small groups: tickets are named and the ID provided at booking may be requested at the entrance. One tour states that photocopies and photos are refused, another accepts a photo on a phone. Bring the original to avoid any refusal. Details of the 2-hour small group.
Can you cancel a guided tour of the Alcázar?
It depends on the product. Five offers in the selection are free to cancel up to 24 h before: the one-hour group, the two groups of 9, early access and the private tour with a choice of languages. The other five are final sales, with no refund. The information appears on each card.
How much time should you allow for the Seville Alcázar?
A guided tour of the Alcázar alone lasts 1 h to 2 h depending on the offer. With the cathedral and the Giralda, allow 2 h 30 to 3 h 30 guided. From October to March, the palace is open from 9:30 am to 5 pm: start in the morning.
