Nine top-rated day trips from Naples cost $50.83 to $325.50 per adult for two travelers. Each has at least 4.7 stars from 100 or more reviews, and they cover the Amalfi Coast, Capri, Pompeii, Herculaneum and Vesuvius. For a first visit, the Positano and Sorrento group tour (4.82 stars, 11,158 reviews) is the best starting point.

If you have two or three days in Naples, the real question is which day out gives you the most time for your money with the least friction. The Amalfi Coast, Capri, Pompeii, Herculaneum and Vesuvius are all within reach, but each asks something different of your day: an early pickup, a ferry, a timed entry or a long coach ride. This list covers nine tours, all rated 4.7 or higher with at least 100 reviews, so the ratings rest on a real number of travelers.
Every price is per adult for two travelers, checked on October 12, 2026. Prices were checked on six sample dates between October 26 and December 24, 2026, and availability covers all 60 days of that window. Prices move with the date, so treat each figure as a checked point rather than a promise, and confirm it on the booking page.
The list is sorted by use, not by stars. Four tours go to the Amalfi Coast, one to Capri, two to Pompeii, one to Herculaneum and one to the vineyards on the slopes of Vesuvius. One of the Amalfi days is private. If you have one day and no particular plan, start with the highest-volume tour.
Why Naples Works as a Base for Day Trips

Naples sits on the Gulf of Naples, and most tours on this list are sold as trips from the city. The exception is Herculaneum, which starts at the ruins themselves. Mount Vesuvius, an active stratovolcano, rises at the edge of the gulf. Its eruption buried Pompeii and Herculaneum.
Travel time sets the shape of each day. The Caremar timetable we checked on October 12, 2026 showed the crossing from Naples to Capri at about 50 to 52 minutes. The coast tours fall into two groups: full-day coach trips of 7 to 8 hours, and a boat day of 10 to 11 hours with a driver pickup at 8:45 a.m.
Plan the morning first. The listed pickup times run from 7:20 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Pompeii needs the most planning: its entry is timed, and the official site caps daily visitors at 20,000. On October 12, 2026, the site also noted reduced access in some houses from October 15 at 4 p.m. We did not check which houses that covers, so check the official site before you go. For more than one day on the coast, our Amalfi Coast 2-day itinerary with private tours covers the rest of the coast without repeating the day trips below.

The 9 Best Day Trips from Naples, One by One

1. Amalfi Coast Positano & Sorrento Signature Group Tour From Naples
This is the tour I would book first if you have only one day for the coast. It is the most-reviewed tour on this list by a wide margin, and it covers Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi in one day. The air-conditioned vehicle, the professional driver and the live commentary do most of the work, so you can look out of the window instead of reading a map. Expect about eight hours and some stepped streets in Positano.
The pitfall is the pickup. The operator sends your exact pickup details 24 hours before the tour, not when you book, so keep your phone on and your hotel address ready. Lunch is included only with one variant of this tour, so check which one you book.
- Small group with a professional driver and tour assistant
- Free time in Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi, with a limoncello tasting
- Pickup details arrive 24 hours before the tour

2. Small Group Amalfi Coast Boat Tour from Naples with Light Lunch
Choose this one if the coast matters more to you than the towns. You see the cliffs from the water, which no coach can give you. Beverages, snacks and a Caprese sandwich are included, and a transfer takes you from Naples to the port of Piano di Sorrento. At $198.77 per adult, it costs more than the coach tours, and it is the longest day on the list.
The pitfall is the calendar. The tour is open on 21 of the 60 days we checked, all of them between October 26 and November 15, 2026, so decide early. Bring a layer for a full day on the water.
- Driver collects you at 8:45 a.m. at the Star Hotel Terminus in Naples
- Light lunch, beverages and snacks on board
- English-speaking skipper

3. Amalfi Drive Small & Luxury Day Trip from Naples
This is the Amalfi day I would pick for a traveler who wants the coast without a boat schedule. The coach does the driving, the commentary runs on board, and the day includes a stop in Amalfi itself. You wait outside your hotel’s main entrance at 7:20 a.m., where the assistant holds a sign with your name. It is open on all 60 days we checked.
The pitfall is the smaller sample: 146 reviews, fewer than the tours above it, so read the most recent ones before you choose it. Lunch is not in the listed inclusions.
- Hotel pickup in Naples at 7:20 a.m.
- Round-trip coach with commentary on board
- Visit to Amalfi included

4. Full Day Private Amalfi Coast Tour from Sorrento/Naples/Salerno
Pay for this one if the day should belong to your group alone. At $325.50 per adult, it costs more than three times the coach group tour, and it has the highest rating on the list: 4.96 from 898 reviews. The route takes in Positano, Amalfi and Ravello, with stops along the coast road. Hotel pickup and drop-off, an air-conditioned minivan, a driver-guide and bottled water are all part of the price.
The pitfall is the start point. The listing does not fix one: the operator confirms the pickup before departure, and the tour can begin in Sorrento, Naples or Salerno. Ask which town your pickup will be in when you book.
- Only your group in the van
- Hotel pickup and drop-off
- Driver-guide and bottled water included

5. Naples: Capri & Anacapri Small-Group Tour, Travel Like a VIP
This is the only Capri tour on the list, and it earns its place on its numbers: 4.90 from 2,920 reviews. It meets outside the Pic Nic Bar inside Molo Beverello, the harbor terminal for the Capri ferries. A professional guide leads the day, roundtrip transport covers the island, and the entrance to Augustus’ Gardens is included. For the full island story, read our Capri day trip from Naples guide first.
The pitfall is the ferry. The inclusions do not mention the crossing, and the Caremar timetable we checked shows about 50 to 52 minutes from Naples. Ask whether the crossing is in your price before you pay.
- Meeting point at Molo Beverello in Naples
- Augustus’ Gardens entrance included
- Roundtrip transport on the island

6. Pompeii Guided Tour from Naples with Skip-the-Line Entry
This is the Pompeii day for a first visit or a short schedule. At three to four hours it is the shortest Pompeii product on the list, and its two-hour small-group guided tour gives you the story of the ruins. The tour includes an entry ticket to the ruins and skip-the-line access, plus a free transfer in an air-conditioned vehicle offered by Enjoy Pompeii. Pompeii entry is timed, so confirm with the operator how your time slot is set.
The pitfall is the meeting point. It is on Via Galileo Ferraris 40 in Naples, not at the ruins, so plan how you will get there from your hotel. Do not buy a separate Pompeii ticket on top of this one, because the entry is already in the price.
- Skip-the-line entry to the ruins
- Two-hour small-group guided tour
- Transfer offered in an air-conditioned vehicle

7. Pompeii & Mt. Vesuvius Elite Tour & Lunch From Naples
This is the longest Pompeii option, and it adds Mount Vesuvius and a traditional lunch to the ruins. The inclusions cover skip-the-line entry to Pompeii, the Valley of Hell entrance ticket, round-trip air-conditioned transport, on-board commentary and a two-hour walking tour with a professional archaeologist. It has the most reviews of any Pompeii product here, 3,485, and a rating of 4.72, the second lowest on the list.
The pitfall is the pickup note. The first meeting note in the listing is written for cruise passengers. If you are not on a cruise, the operator confirms your pickup by WhatsApp or through the dashboard 24 hours before, so have your hotel address ready.
- Skip-the-line entry to Pompeii
- Mount Vesuvius visit included
- Traditional lunch on the day

8. Scenic Wine Tasting & Lunch on the Slopes of Vesuvius from Naples
Choose this if you want Vesuvius without the archaeology. It is a four-hour visit among the vineyards on the mountain’s slopes, with a guide, wine, a tasting and a full meal. Hotel pickup is at 11:45 a.m., which makes it easy to fit around a late breakfast. The rating is the lowest on the list, 4.71 from 231 reviews, so I would book it as a relaxed lunch out of Naples, not as the main event of the trip.
The pitfall is expectation. The mountain is an active volcano, but the listing describes a vineyard walk and a meal, not a summit climb. Arrive hungry and dress for walking between the vines.
- Hotel pickup in Naples at 11:45 a.m.
- Full meal and wine tasting
- Guide among the vineyards

9. Herculaneum Small Group Tour and Ticket With an Archaeologist
This has the lowest starting price on the list, and it is the only tour whose meeting point is at the ruins themselves. The tour meets at the Herculaneum ticket office, so you reach it by train or car on your own. At two hours it is the shortest guided visit here, with a licensed guide who has an archaeological background, entry tickets, headsets and no more than 20 people per guide. Herculaneum’s life ended in 79 AD, when the eruption of Vesuvius buried it.
The pitfall is the price. Across the dates we checked, the tour ran from $50.83 to $177.06 per adult for two travelers, and the listing does not explain the gap. Quote your own dates before you assume the low figure, and plan Herculaneum as a day of its own.
- Meeting point at the Herculaneum ticket office, not in Naples
- Herculaneum entry tickets included
- Maximum 20 people per guide

Get coveredTravel Tips Before You Book
Expect early starts. The listed pickup times run from 7:20 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., and the boat day collects you at 8:45 a.m. Set your alarm and have breakfast ready the night before. Keep your phone on, because several operators confirm the exact pickup 24 hours in advance.
Pack for the day. Pompeii’s official site asks visitors to carry only small bags, no bigger than 30 by 30 by 15 centimeters. Bring the shoes you walk in at home, not new sandals. Positano and Amalfi have stepped streets, and the paving at Pompeii and Herculaneum is uneven and ancient.
Tickets for the ruins. Pompeii tickets are sold on vivaticket.it or at the park’s self-service offices. We did not check Pompeii or Herculaneum ticket prices or opening hours. The official site lists them, so check there before you plan the day.
Pick by profile. Couples who want one special day should consider the private Amalfi tour, and travelers who want the sea should choose the boat. A first-time visitor with one day should start with the Positano and Sorrento group tour. Vesuvius and Herculaneum involve walking on uneven ancient paving.
