Bellevue Noël replaces the Wienachtsdorf on Sechseläutenplatz in Zurich from November 19 to December 23, 2026. The venue stays the same, but the operator and the concept change: a 50-meter Advent wreath becomes the central attraction. Entry to the market is free, but the wreath requires a ticket, and no source we checked publishes its price.

Checked on against the open pages of bellevuenoel.ch and the City of Zurich press release, and an excerpt from zuerich.com.

Zurich’s big Christmas market no longer goes by the name Wienachtsdorf. In 2026 it runs under the name Bellevue Noël, on the same square: Sechseläutenplatz, facing the Opera House and a few steps from the lake. The site and the calendar have not moved, but the operator, the name and the concept have changed: a 50-meter Advent wreath becomes the centerpiece. This guide gives the dates, the hours published by the operator, how to access the wreath and the events of the season. For each piece of information, it says whether it is confirmed, and it flags what is not yet known rather than guessing.

Bellevue Noël: a new concept on a familiar square

November 19 to December 23, 2026 Free entry Mostly an evening atmosphere

The Wienachtsdorf, run by Schöne Bescherung AG since winter 2015, closed on December 23, 2025. The City of Zurich put the market out to tender in January 2025, and five bids were received. The city executive (Stadtrat) selected Future Events GmbH, which presents the market as Bellevue Noël, in a press release issued at the end of 2025 (City of Zurich press release).

The most visible change is the wreath: a circular structure in Swiss wood, 50 meters in diameter, with a walkable platform about 5 meters above the ground. The concept also puts sustainability at the center. The City imposed eco-responsibility criteria: reusable cups and dishes, action against food waste, and a balanced product range.

What does not change

  • The place: Sechseläutenplatz, 8001 Zurich, facing the Opera House and near Bellevueplatz.
  • Free entry to the market, with no ticket for the stalls.
  • The calendar: a market from late November to late December, ending on December 23.

What the new concept adds

Beyond the wreath, the operator highlights four areas: Swiss craft and design, with about 100 stalls of makers and local producers; food, with fondue, raclette, mulled wine and street food; activities, including a children’s space and a candle ritual on Sundays; and sustainability.

If you want to try Swiss cheese and chocolate outside the stalls, a guided walking food tour offers another approach. According to the Viator listing checked on October 17, 2026, it lasts 3.5 hours and starts at the Bellevue tram stop, ending at Paradeplatz. It involves a lot of walking, and the operator cannot accommodate wheelchair users. The group is capped at 12 people, and a private option exists.

On October 17, 2026, the listing showed €149.99 per adult (based on two adults), about US$169 at the October 16, 2026 exchange rate, with bookable dates on 30 of the market’s 35 days, from November 19 to December 23. The operator confirms bookings manually, not instantly.

Zurich Food Tour with 10 Local Delicacies, Cheeses & Chocolates €149.99 (about $169) per adult, based on 2 people, 3.5 hours · ★ 4.9 (153 Viator reviews)

2. The Advent wreath: access, ticket and points to watch

A 50-meter walkway above the square

The wreath is a circular walkway in Swiss wood, 50 meters in diameter, with a walkable platform about 5 meters above the ground. You walk around the circle, with a view over the market and the Opera House facade. Access is free, but a ticket is required. You can book it online on the operator’s site, using the “Kranz buchen” button (German for “book the wreath”), or buy it on site.

For people with reduced mobility, an elevator supplements the stairs, according to Zürich Tourismus. The pages consulted on October 17, 2026 do not publish time slots: check availability when you book.

What is not published

The ticket price does not appear on any of the pages consulted, neither on the operator’s site nor on Zürich Tourismus’s. The sources also do not give a recommended visit length or the capacity per time slot. No visit duration is published: the two-hour estimate in section 8 is therefore our own.

Pixidia tip: book your ticket before you go and leave a margin rather than a tight time slot. The sources do not document the queue or the time spent on the walkway.

3. Dates, hours and getting there

Fixed dates and hours published by the operator

The dates and hours below come from the Bellevue Noël website, checked on October 17, 2026. The fondue chalet and the bar close later than the market: their hours are in the table.

Getting to Bellevue Noël

The square is easy to reach from the center. The tram stops at Bellevue, right next to the square. The bus stops at Opernhaus, beside the Opera House. For the S-Bahn, get off at Zürich Stadelhofen station.

The documents we consulted do not agree on the route numbers serving these stops. We therefore give no numbers: check the ZVV app on the day you travel for the lines in service and the journey time from your starting point.

By car, the sources do not document parking or its price. The payment methods (card, cash) and the presence of toilets are not documented either.

4. 2026 events: what is confirmed, what still needs checking

A program that takes shape through the autumn

The market’s opening and closing dates are firm. The rest of the program is taking shape as the City and the organizers publish their announcements, and several dates are confirmed by only one source. The table below separates the two cases.

Sources: bellevuenoel.ch, zuerich.com and zvv.ch, checked October 17, 2026. The status “to be confirmed” means that no official source we checked gives the date without ambiguity.

The Silvesterlauf on December 13

The New Year’s Eve race celebrates its 50th edition on Sunday, December 13, 2026. According to one source, the start is on Limmatquai and the finish on Fraumünsterstrasse, but the route may change because of road works. The announced distances range from 1.4 to 10 km depending on the sites consulted. Registration is online only: check the race’s official site for the final course.

The Samichlaus parade

The Samichlaus parade, which marks the St. Nicholas tradition of December 6, is announced for Sunday, November 29, 2026 at 5 p.m. by Zürich Tourismus. The route starts at Werdmühleplatz, runs along Bahnhofstrasse and ends at Bürkliplatz. The time should be reconfirmed before your visit.

What other guides don’t tell you

These points are missing from the guides to the former market that we read for this article, or those guides contradict them.

  • The market changed operator, not just name. Future Events GmbH replaces Schöne Bescherung AG, according to the City of Zurich decision published at the end of 2025 (City of Zurich press release, checked October 17, 2026).
  • The market stays on Sechseläutenplatz. Katja Weber, founder of Schöne Bescherung AG, had announced no new venue as of December 23, 2025 (nau.ch, article of December 23, 2025, checked October 17, 2026).
  • No price for the wreath ticket appears on any page we checked. Several guides present the wreath as free, or do not mention a ticket; none gives a price (bellevuenoel.ch and zuerich.com, checked October 17, 2026).
  • The market closes on December 23, according to the operator. A general guide gives December 24 (bellevuenoel.ch, checked October 17, 2026).
  • The operator’s hours differ from a third-party guide. The site lists 10 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 8 p.m. on Sunday for the market; a third-party guide gives 9 p.m. for Monday to Saturday (bellevuenoel.ch, checked October 17, 2026).

5. Reviews and experience: no 2026 reviews yet, what earlier editions say

No visitor reviews for the 2026 edition

No visitor reviews of Bellevue Noël exist at the time of writing: the market had not yet opened on October 17, 2026. The reviews and comments we found concern the Wienachtsdorf, the previous edition, and do not describe the new concept. They give an idea of the atmosphere, which should be read as such.

What guides to earlier editions say

Travel and expat guides that describe the Wienachtsdorf stress three points: a compact, well-kept market rather than an exuberant one, a fondue and mulled wine offer that visitors appreciate, and an atmosphere that is felt mostly in the evening. One of them describes Zurich’s markets as “sober,” “expensive but good quality,” and free of excessive decorations. These judgments date from earlier editions and guarantee nothing for 2026.

A third-party guide mentions games and craft activities for children. An ice rink was set up at the Dörfli in 2025, but nothing in the 2026 sources confirms these elements: do not treat them as settled.

How to judge for yourself

The market fits on a single square, with about 100 stalls announced. Its fondue chalet holds 600 people according to zuerich.com, and no 2026 review yet allows a judgment: the reviews found concern the Wienachtsdorf, not the new concept. If you want to compare with another German market, our guide to the Munich Christmas market covers Marienplatz. For a large city in Central Europe, our guide to the Prague Christmas markets offers another comparison.

6. Budget: what is free, what costs money, what is not published

A budget that cannot be calculated from official sources alone

2026 prices for food and drinks do not appear in any source we consulted. The table therefore separates what is free, what is paid without a known price, and what should be checked before you go.

A method for estimating your outing

Check prices on site, since none of the consulted sources lists them. With a wreath ticket, a cup of mulled wine and a meal at the chalet, the budget depends mostly on the number of people and the time of your visit. Our advice: set a budget per person and keep a margin for the trip back by public transport.

7. A typical day at Bellevue Noël

Suggested itinerary, from lunch to the evening

This itinerary follows the hours published by the operator. It is an editorial suggestion that has not been checked on site.

Lunch at the fondue chalet

The fondue chalet opens at 11 a.m. An article about the market recommends booking a table early, and we follow that advice: arrive at opening or book for the meal. The chalet is a good base for trying cheese fondue in an indoor setting.

Afternoon: the wreath

Go up onto the wreath before dusk, with your ticket already booked. You will have a view of the square and the Opera House before the market lights up.

Evening: the atmosphere

The market is best visited in the evening, when the lighting takes over, within the hours shown in the table in section 3. On Sundays, the four-candle ritual takes place, but its exact times are not published.

8. Options by traveler profile

Families, couples, small budgets

Families

The children’s area offers crafts, painting, a carousel, a children’s bar and a plush-toy workshop. The Märlitram, a decorated Christmas tram where angels read stories, departs from Bellevue. It is a service of Zürich Tourismus, separate from the market, and its link with Bellevue Noël is not confirmed by the operator. Tickets are sold online from mid-November, or picked up at Coop City or at the tourist office at the main station; the price was not checked. One page indicates a winter closure until November 20, another a season from November 20 to December 23: check the dates before planning the outing.

Couples

For an evening for two, combine the wreath early in the evening, dinner at the fondue chalet and a glass of mulled wine. Book your table and your ticket in advance. The pages consulted give no time slots for the wreath, so keep your schedule flexible.

On a small budget

The market can be visited for free, since entry is free. You only pay for what you consume and, if you go up the wreath, the ticket, whose price is not published. To keep costs down, choose a single tasting. The weekend before Christmas is generally the busiest, but no attendance figures are published.

For a first visit

Come in the late afternoon to see the market light up, then have dinner on site. Plan about two hours if you go up the wreath: this is our estimate, since no duration is published. Also leave time for the trip back.

9. Polarzauber and Dörfli: the city’s other markets

Two nearby markets with different statuses

Polarzauber, in the main station hall

Polarzauber brings together more than 100 stalls in the main station hall (Hauptbahnhof). Its opening is announced for November 19, 2026; its closing date is not confirmed by the operator. The 2026 hours are not published, and the listings consulted give different hours depending on the year.

Dörfli, in the old town

The Dörfli market, in the Niederdorf, ran from November 20 to December 23 in 2025, according to a third-party guide. For 2026, the dates are not yet published: do not book anything based on the previous edition, and watch for the city’s official announcement.

10. Weather and the best time to visit

The part of the week that matters most

Climate averages for Zurich in December were not found in official sources at the time of writing, so we give no temperature figures. What we know: the market is outdoors, with a covered chalet and a wreath up high. In dry, cold weather the atmosphere is more pronounced; rain makes the walkway less pleasant. These are qualitative observations, not measurements.

The weekend before Christmas is generally the busiest, but no attendance figures are published. On Sundays, hours are shorter: the market closes at 8 p.m., and the fondue chalet and the bar at 11 p.m.

Frequently asked questions about Bellevue Noël in Zurich

When does the Zurich Christmas market open in 2026?

Bellevue Noël opens on November 19, 2026 and closes on December 23, 2026. These dates come from the operator’s website, checked on October 17, 2026. A general guide gives December 24, but the operator announces the 23rd. The date of the city illumination, which falls the same day, still needs to be confirmed by the City.

What are the opening hours of Bellevue Noël?

The market is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday. The fondue chalet and the bar stay open until midnight Monday to Saturday, and until 11 p.m. on Sunday. These are the hours published by the operator. A third-party guide gives 9 p.m. for Monday to Saturday: this is a discrepancy, and the official site takes precedence.

Where is Bellevue Noël, and how do I get there?

The market is on Sechseläutenplatz, 8001 Zurich, facing the Opera House. The tram stops at Bellevue, the bus at Opernhaus, and the S-Bahn serves Zürich Stadelhofen station. Route numbers vary between the documents consulted: check them in the ZVV app on the day of your visit. The sources do not document car parking, so public transport remains the simpler option.

Is entry free?

Yes, entry to the market is free. The Advent wreath, however, is visited only with a ticket: access is free, but the ticket must be booked online or bought on site. The ticket price is not published on any page consulted, and the fondue chalet and the bar have no published 2026 prices. Check prices on site.

Does Bellevue Noël replace the Wienachtsdorf?

Yes, but without moving. The market keeps the same location, Sechseläutenplatz, but Future Events GmbH replaces Schöne Bescherung AG, which ran the Wienachtsdorf. The concept changes, with a 50-meter Advent wreath. The sources consulted do not mention a 2026 Wienachtsdorf anywhere else in the city.

Is the Zurich Christmas market worth the trip?

No 2026 visitor reviews exist yet, since the market had not opened at the time of writing. Guides to earlier editions describe a compact, well-kept market, with fondue and mulled wine that visitors appreciate, and an atmosphere that is stronger in the evening. These are older impressions, not guarantees. For attendance, the research offers only one indication: the weekend before Christmas is generally the busiest, with no published figure.

Are there activities for children?

The market has a children’s area with crafts, painting, a carousel, a children’s bar and a plush-toy workshop. The Märlitram, a decorated Christmas tram, departs from Bellevue, but it is a Zürich Tourismus service whose 2026 dates and fare still need to be confirmed. The Samichlaus parade, announced for November 29 at 5 p.m., is free according to a 2025 source, to be reconfirmed for 2026.

Is there another Christmas market in central Zurich?

Yes. Polarzauber takes place in the main station hall, with more than 100 stalls. Its opening is announced for November 19, 2026, but its closing is not confirmed. The Dörfli, in the old town of Niederdorf, has not yet published its 2026 dates. Check the official announcements before planning your visit.
