An adult ticket costs £29.50 off-peak (£37 at peak) for Christmas at Kew 2026, which runs from 13 November 2026 to 3 January 2027. Each timed slot starts at 4:20 pm, and the last entry depends on your gate. Book on Kew’s official ticket site, never on Fever, and pick a weeknight in November for the best value.

Checked on against the official sources cited (gov.uk, Met Office, an extract from kew.org) and the guides we read.

Christmas at Kew turns the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, in west London, into a lit-up walk of about 3 km. Illuminated greenhouses and trees, a lake, a funfair and food stalls line the route. Three things matter before you book: the entrance gate, which sets your cut-off time; the ticket type, because the daytime pass costs extra; and the date, with two evenings reserved for adults and some Mondays when the garden is closed.

1. Dates, closures and adults-only evenings

From 13 November 2026 to 3 January 2027

52 calendar days Entries from 4:20 pm Two adults-only evenings

The trail opens on Friday 13 November 2026 and closes on Sunday 3 January 2027. The garden stays closed on Mondays 16 and 23 November, Saturday 28 November and Friday 25 December. To buy, use Kew’s official ticket site: the address kew.org/christmas has not been confirmed by a direct read, and See Tickets is cited as an official platform, but we have not read its page. Check the date before you pay: your ticket carries both a date and a time slot.

  • Two evenings for guests aged 18 and over only, on Thursday 3 and Wednesday 9 December 2026.
  • One time slot per ticket, with an entry cut-off that depends on the gate.
Our tip: book early. Tickets sell fast, especially for December weekends, according to Gardens Illustrated, IanVisits, Candace Abroad and Mummy Travels.

Who it’s for: an evening in town, without a ticket for the garden. The card below won’t get you into Kew: the tour is a 90-minute walk through Covent Garden and Trafalgar Square, with mulled wine. If the glowing garden trail is what you’re after, this doesn’t replace it. If you want the cheap group format, this is it: a private taxi tour of the lights costs €177.91 per person and runs on only two days. The last departure is on 23 December: the tour doesn’t run from 24 December to 3 January.

Source: Gardens Illustrated, Candace Abroad, IanVisits and gov.uk, checked on 18 October 2026. The Quiet Access sessions come from the extract of Kew’s official page, which we have not read in full.

IanVisits, which passed on the announcement on 13 October 2026, says the two adults-only evenings are a first for the event. Gardens Illustrated gives the same age limit. A family will need to pick another date.

Quiet Access sessions, designed for visitors with a hidden disability or sensory sensitivity, are also on the programme: 21 November, 1 December, 16 December and 26 December 2026. These dates come from the same extract of Kew’s official page, which we have not read in full: check them on the ticket site before you book.

2. Tickets: prices, daytime access and traps

A Christmas at Kew ticket is a timed-entry ticket: it gets you onto the lit trail at the time you choose, not into the greenhouses during the day. Daytime access is an extra. Here is the price list we checked on 18 October 2026.

Source: Explore London (15 October 2026), IanVisits (13 October 2026), Candace Abroad and an extract from Kew’s official page, checked on 18 October 2026. The price shown at checkout is the one that counts.

The family ticket costs £86 to £89 off-peak and £105 to £108 at peak, depending on the source. If it covers two adults and two children, it costs £10 to £13 less than four single tickets (£99 at unit prices: 2 × £29.50 + 2 × £20). The pages we read don’t say what it covers.

IanVisits also mentions a combined « Anytime & Any Day » ticket, which we couldn’t confirm on the ticket site. Candace Abroad only mentions a daytime pass at £12 for an adult on top of the ticket: it’s the best-documented option.

Platforms show a « from » price of about £25 (£25.23 at Gardens Illustrated, £25.50 at The Nudge). That floor doesn’t specify a date or time slot, so don’t use it as a budget. For reference, the 2025-2026 edition cost £27.50 off-peak for an adult, according to South Western Railway.

Watch out for Fever. The platform sells a family concert, Nash Sessions, on 13 December 2026, with a « Christmas at Kew » add-on of £20 for an adult and £15 for a child aged 4 to 15, plus booking fees. The add-on applies to the day of the concert: it is not the Christmas at Kew ticket. Don’t buy the Christmas at Kew ticket on Fever.

3. Gates, last entry and access

Three gates issue dedicated tickets. Your ticket shows the gate and the matching last entry time: arriving after that can mean missing your entry.

Victoria Gate is close to Kew Gardens station on the District line. Elizabeth Gate is close to Kew Bridge station. Brentford Gate only opens to tickets that include prepaid parking at the Ferry Lane car park. The price varies by source: £10 according to the kew.org extract (not read in full), £7 according to a third-party source. Check the figure on your ticket. To choose, start from how you’re getting there: Tube, Victoria; train, Elizabeth; car, Brentford.

On Christmas Eve, every cut-off time moves earlier, and the garden closes at 9:00 pm according to Mummy Travels. Entries start at 4:20 pm according to Gardens Illustrated, and the garden closes at 10:00 pm according to Mummy Travels and Gardens Illustrated. Inside, the only food spots mentioned are the Victoria Plaza Café and the Family Kitchen & Shop (search extract, not fully read); the rest of the stalls are outdoors.

Getting there. The Transport for London page on the holiday period, read on 18 October 2026, doesn’t list any specific service at Kew Gardens station on 24, 25, 26 or 31 December. Check TfL’s status the day before you travel.

4. The route: what you see and how long it takes

About 3 km, two hours with breaks

About 3 km Up to 2 hours Waterproof shoes

Gardens Illustrated says the visit can take up to two hours, stalls included. Secret LDN described the 2025 edition as about forty minutes of walking without stopping. Plan two hours if you want to enjoy the stalls.

What the 2026 guides say you’ll see

  • Illuminated greenhouses and trees, as described by Candace Abroad.
  • The lake and its reflections, plus a spot to toast marshmallows.
  • A meet-up with Father Christmas, whom Time Out calls « Father C ».
  • A finale in front of the Victorian Palm House, according to The Nudge.

The route is outdoors. Explore London recommends warm, waterproof clothing; the guides we read also recommend waterproof shoes, since the ground is often soggy in winter.

Our tip: the night ticket doesn’t get you into the greenhouses during the day. To visit them, buy the daytime pass as an extra (section 2). Plan to be out before 3:00 pm (Candace Abroad says 3:15 pm).

The 2026 installations aren’t named in the pages we read. The 2025 names, Mycelium Network, Christmas Orchestra or In Bloom, aren’t confirmed for this year. The greenhouses close in the evening, according to Things To Do In London, so we don’t promise any evening visit to the greenhouses.

5. The best time to go: month, day and profile

Three things matter: weather, price and crowds. November is milder than December: the Kew Gardens weather station records an average high of 11.6 °C in November against 8.9 °C in December, and about 5 frost days in November versus nearly 10 in December.

Climate averages for the Kew Gardens station, 1991-2020, November to January
MonthAverage highAverage lowRainFrost days
November11.6 °C4.3 °C66 mm (11.3 rain days)5.3
December8.9 °C2.3 °C59 mm (11.2 rain days)9.9
January8.6 °C2.0 °C60 mmNot stated

Source: Met Office, Kew Gardens, 1991-2020 averages, checked on 18 October 2026.

On price, the late-November and early-December nights marked off-peak in the official page extract (17, 18, 19, 24, 25, 26 and 30 November, then 1 and 2 December; extract not read in full, so confirm the date on the ticket site) are £29.50 for an adult, against £37 at peak. The £7.50 gap comes down to the date alone.

On crowds, December weekends sell out fast. Time Out and The Nudge report slots that are often available in the first week of January. Blogs describe Tuesday to Thursday as quieter: these are opinions, not official figures.

Depending on what you’re after:

  • First visit, no constraints: a November weeknight, off-peak, avoiding the Mondays when the garden is closed.
  • Family with children: a November off-peak night, with a gate chosen based on how you’re arriving.
  • Adults without children: one of the two evenings for guests aged 18 and over, on 3 or 9 December, booked early.
  • Tight budget: an off-peak weeknight without the daytime pass, which is the lowest price on the list.
  • Daytime visit and greenhouses: the daytime pass as an extra (section 2), to check on the ticket site before you buy.

Around your visit, our Christmas experiences in London for 2026 round out a city stay, and our guide to 10 days off over Christmas and New Year helps you fit the visit into your calendar.

6. Visitors from abroad: ETA, trains and London

The electronic travel authorisation: £20 per person

£20 per person Children included Before you leave

Citizens of the European Union, including French nationals, need an electronic travel authorisation (ETA) for the UK. It costs £20 per person, children included, according to the gov.uk page checked on 18 October 2026. No visa is needed for a tourist stay.

The pages we read give two dates for when the requirement started: 25 February 2026 according to one gov.uk page, and 8 April 2026 according to another. Either way, the authorisation applies to your trip. Apply on gov.uk, not through a middleman site.

Our tip: apply several days before you book your train or flight, and keep the confirmation with your passport.

From central London, Kew Gardens station is on the District line, a few minutes from Victoria Gate. South Western Railway trains serve Kew Bridge station, close to Elizabeth Gate.

The UK calendar has public holidays during your stay: Friday 25 December 2026, Monday 28 December 2026 and Friday 1 January 2027, according to gov.uk. The garden is closed on 25 December. For 28 December and 1 January, none of the pages we read confirms Kew’s status: check it on the ticket site.

7. Families, groups and accessibility

Under-4s go in free, but each child needs their own timed ticket (extract from Kew’s official page, not read in full). Children aged 4 to 16 pay £20 off-peak and £24 at peak according to IanVisits (the kew.org extract says 4 to 15, so check on the ticket). Under-18s must be accompanied by an adult, according to an extract from the official page.

Groups of 15 people or more go through Kew’s group booking form. The group rates published for 2026-2027 cover daytime visits; we found no group rate for the evening. For a request, write to [email protected] (address from a kew.org extract, not verified).

We couldn’t read Kew’s accessibility page. Age UK Mobility and Accesscard describe mostly paved paths, with a few gravel or grass sections. Euan’s Guide says the Palm House and the Princess of Wales Conservatory have floors that aren’t accessible. Check Kew’s accessibility page before you come with someone who has reduced mobility.

Four points to check before you book

Four points to check before you book, with their source and the date we checked them. None of the guides we read mentions the travel authorisation, and entry cut-offs vary from one source to another.

  • Two evenings for guests aged 18 and over only, on 3 and 9 December 2026. IanVisits passes on the announcement and calls it a first for the event; Gardens Illustrated sets the same age limit. IanVisits (published 13 October 2026, checked 18 October 2026).
  • Closures on Mondays 16 and 23 November and Saturday 28 November. These closures appear in the update from Candace Abroad dated 15 October 2026 (checked 18 October 2026).
  • An entry cut-off that depends on the gate. From 7:00 pm to 7:40 pm on weeknights, and from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Christmas Eve. Extract from Kew’s official page (extract, not read in full, 18 October 2026).
  • A travel authorisation is required for European visitors, children included. £20 per person. None of the guides we read mention it. gov.uk, ETA page (checked 18 October 2026).
