A Luberon day trip from Avignon costs between €80 and €169 per person for two adults. The format decides the price: a half day or a full day. The nine options are rated 4.50 to 4.99 out of 5; the best rated lasts nine and a half hours and costs €145. Four run only in season, not in winter.
Checked on on the Viator partner API (prices, ratings, availability).
The Luberon is within day-trip range of Avignon. This guide makes that concrete: nine tours from the Avignon category of the Viator catalog, compared on what matters most: the price for two adults, the rating, the days they run, and the cancellation terms. Of the nine, five have at least one open day between November and January, and the price for two adults runs from €80 to €169.
One point first, because it changes how to read everything else. The Luberon does not exist as a destination of its own in the Viator catalog. Tours are sold as « departing from Avignon » or under the name « Provence ». We therefore kept tours departing from Avignon or Provence that feature the Luberon, and we flag those that go beyond the park. Four of them leave the park: three also go to the Pont du Gard, Les Baux-de-Provence or Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, and the fourth goes to Châteauneuf-du-Pape, about 12 miles (19 km) from Avignon, for two tastings. They remain useful, but they are not « Luberon » in the strict sense.
The first question is the format, not the tour. A five-hour half day costs between €80 and €90 per person for two adults and is enough for Gordes, Roussillon and the Abbey of Sénanque. A full day, from eight to ten hours, adds Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, Ménerbes or a tasting in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, for a budget of €120 to €169 per person. The best choice for a single day remains a long format, nine and a half hours, which also goes outside the park.
Season is the other factor, and it is more restrictive than you might expect. In the window we checked, from November to January, five of the nine products are open. The other four only run in spring or summer 2027: the prices shown here are 2027 season prices, not an offer you can book tomorrow morning. The two tours centered on lavender depend on the bloom, which generally falls in late June and July according to the sources we consulted, and which varies from one year to the next.
We also set aside one promise from the original topic. No electric bike departs from Avignon in the Viator catalog we searched. Bike routes do exist around the massif, notably the Apt-Cavaillon stage. These are self-guided routes. We mention them in the practical tips, with no affiliate link, so you know where to look.
Why the Luberon Is Visited from Avignon

The Luberon Regional Nature Park covers 51 communes in Vaucluse and 26 communes in Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, according to ProvenceWeb. It was classified as a regional nature park in 1977, and its UNESCO biosphere reserve status is dated 1997 in the sources we consulted. Be wary of a figure that is often repeated: the park’s area differs from one source to another, and we do not publish it until the park has verified it. The park’s visitor house, the Maison du Parc, is in the old town of Apt and has a permanent exhibition.
What sets the massif apart is its villages. Gordes is the most cited, for its panorama and the Abbey of Sénanque. Roussillon is known for its ochre cliffs. Then come Lourmarin, Ménerbes, where the painter Nicolas de Staël lived, Oppède-le-Vieux, Lacoste, Bonnieux, and Apt, presented as the capital of the Luberon. Gordes and Roussillon are among France’s most beautiful villages according to the tourist guides we consulted; the association’s official page could not be read during our checks, so we go no further than this wording.
The real distance is shorter than many expect. According to the Ryo guide, which gives indicative road distances, Fontaine-de-Vaucluse is about 20 miles (32 km) from Avignon, Ménerbes 24 miles (38 km), Gordes 24 miles (39 km), Roussillon 30 miles (48 km) and Lourmarin 34 miles (55 km). These distances are indicative; they do not tell you how long the trip between two villages takes. This is where a tour changes things: parking fees are included in the listings for cards 2, 3 and 8.
The Luberon is not a museum either. The lavender fields draw visitors in June and July, when the bloom is out. The Châteauneuf-du-Pape vineyards, about 12 miles (19 km) from Avignon, are within reach of the same day. What matters when choosing is less the list of villages than the mix you want: stone and panorama, colors and fields, wine and landscapes.

The Nine Avignon-Category Tours in the Viator Catalog

1. Highlights of Provence in One Day
If you have only one day and want to see as much as possible, this is the tour I would put at the top of the list. It is the best rated in the selection, at 4.99 out of 5 across 383 reviews, and it goes to several sites, from the Middle Ages to the Pont du Gard. Roussillon and Saint-Rémy are on the itinerary, with the house of Nostradamus and the traces of Van Gogh. The downside is obvious: nine and a half hours is long, and both the Pont du Gard and Saint-Rémy are outside the Luberon. Lunch is not included, so bring something to eat on the way. The tour is open 60 days out of 60 checked over the November to January window, and the price is €145 per adult for two travelers. My advice: go for the pace of the day rather than the list of sites.
- Rated 4.99 out of 5 from 383 reviews
- Several sites, from the Middle Ages to the Pont du Gard
- Lunch not included, plan for it

2. Small-Group Lavender Fields of the Luberon
This tour answers one specific question: how to see the lavender fields without being swallowed by crowds. According to the supplier’s listing, the stops are made « away from the crowds », which is what sets it apart from tours that chain villages together with a single photo stop. The Abbey of Sénanque, Gordes and Roussillon complete the route. The ideal time is late June and July, when the lavandin blooms, but the bloom depends on the year and the weather, and it cannot be guaranteed. This tour does not run in autumn or winter: the window we checked is the 2027 season, from June 9 to July 25, with 44 open days out of 47. The meeting point is not named in the supplier’s listing: the departure time and place are to be confirmed at booking. Lunch is not included, so plan for it. For a traveler who wants lavender rather than a list of villages, this is the right choice.
- Abbey of Sénanque, Gordes and Roussillon
- Stops in the fields
- Open June 9 to July 25, 2027

3. Small-Group Hilltop Villages of the Luberon
This format suits anyone who wants to see several hilltop villages without driving. Four stages: Fontaine-de-Vaucluse and its Sorgue spring, Gordes, Roussillon and its ochre cliffs, then Ménerbes, where Nicolas de Staël lived. The window we checked runs from April 1 to May 30, 2027, with 59 open days out of 60; the tour is not offered in winter. The meeting point is not named in the listing: confirm it at booking. Lunch is not included.
- Four villages in one day
- Ménerbes, where Nicolas de Staël lived
- Lunch not included

4. Half-Day Photo Tour of the Luberon
This is the least expensive half day in the selection after the one in card 6, and the easiest to fit into a stay: €90 per adult for two travelers, about five hours. The listing presents the format as photographic, with stops at Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, Gordes, the Abbey of Sénanque and Roussillon. The supplier also offers a market stop, either Gordes on Tuesday or Roussillon on Thursday, depending on the departure day. The window we checked covers winter, November to January, with 59 open days out of 60: the two half days that run in winter are this one and the one in card 6. Two caveats. The rating rests on only 66 reviews, the smallest sample in the group. The meeting point is in front of the tourist office, but the listing does not name the town: confirm before paying. For a first look at the massif, this tour holds up well.
- Half day of about five hours
- Gordes, Sénanque and Roussillon
- Gordes market on Tuesday or Roussillon on Thursday

5. Small-Group Full-Day Visit from Avignon
This is the most reviewed product in the group, with 561 reviews. Its strength is practical: it departs from Avignon itself, in a small group, with a guide. Gordes, the Abbey of Sénanque, Roussillon and Fontaine-de-Vaucluse form the core of the program. The 4.78 rating is the lowest of the top five in the selection: it is a reliable tour, but without the momentum of the best-rated ones. The program also includes Les Baux-de-Provence, Saint-Rémy and the Pont du Gard, which are outside the Luberon; keep that in mind if you are looking exclusively at the park. The winter window is open on 46 days out of 60. The price is €130 per adult for two travelers. The meeting point is in front of the Avignon tourist office.
- Small group and guide
- Gordes, Sénanque, Roussillon, Fontaine-de-Vaucluse
- Meeting point in front of the Avignon tourist office

6. Half-Day Gordes and Roussillon from Avignon
This is the least expensive format in the selection: €80 per adult for two travelers, a five-hour half day. The program comes down to three names, Gordes, the Abbey of Sénanque and Roussillon, plus a « surprise village » that the listing does not name. I flag it because an element of the unknown should be stated as such. The vehicle is an air-conditioned minivan, with a professional guide. The 4.62 rating out of 5, from 212 reviews, is the lowest of the half days in the group: the format suits, but it does not have the reputation of the best tours. Tips are not included, and the listing says so. The tour is open on 41 days out of 60 in the winter window, which leaves room in your dates. The meeting point is in front of the tourist office, and the listing title clearly says « from Avignon ». For a half day without a car, this is the first option to look at.
- Air-conditioned minivan and professional guide
- Gordes, Sénanque and Roussillon
- Tips not included

7. Wine and the Luberon: Two Tastings and One Long Day
This is the only product in the group to give wine a clear place: two tastings in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, then an afternoon in the Luberon with Roussillon, Lacoste and Gordes in the indicative program. It is a long day, ten hours, and the most expensive in the selection at €169 per adult for two travelers. It is worth the price if you want to combine vineyards and villages without driving. The listing notes that Ménerbes is no longer a stop, and the rest of the itinerary is to be confirmed at booking. The product only runs in season: the window we checked runs from April 1 to May 30, 2027, with 60 open days out of 60, and it is not offered in winter. The meeting point is in front of the Avignon tourist office, a city named in the listing.
- Two tastings in Châteauneuf-du-Pape
- Afternoon in the Luberon
- Indicative program, to be confirmed

8. Full-Day Provence Tour with Gordes, Roussillon and the Pont du Gard
This product is judged first on its dates, and that is the point to check first: in the November to January window, it is open on only 8 of the 60 days checked, namely November 6, 8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 27, 2026. Outside those days, you need to look for another day. It suits those who accept a long nine-hour day to cover a large part of Provence, with Gordes and Roussillon at the heart of it. This is not a Luberon product in the strict sense: the program also goes to Les Baux-de-Provence, Saint-Rémy and the Pont du Gard. Parking is included, a detail that matters if you drive to Avignon. The supplier does not specify lunch, so plan for it. The 4.55 rating out of 5, from 168 reviews, is average. The meeting point is opposite the Visite Avignon shop. The price is €135 per adult for two travelers. If your dates fall on one of those days, it is a serious option; otherwise, choose the half day.
- Eight open days out of sixty in winter
- Parking included
- Pont du Gard outside the Luberon

9. Lavender in Provence: One Day from Avignon
Alongside the lavender fields tour in card 2, this is one of the two products in the group built around lavender. It does not run in winter: the window we checked is the 2027 season, from June 7 to July 19, with all 43 days open. Photo stops in the fields are included, with a stop at Sénanque, then Sault or Roussillon and Gordes. The rating is the lowest in the selection, 4.50 out of 5 from 136 reviews, so judge it on its program rather than its reputation. Photo stops in the fields are listed among the inclusions; the bloom, however, is not guaranteed. The price is €149 per adult for two travelers, and the day lasts about eight and a half hours. The meeting point is in front of the Avignon tourist office, a city named in the listing.
- Photo stops in the fields included
- Sénanque, Sault or Roussillon, Gordes
- Summer bloom, not guaranteed

Getting There Without a Car
There is no direct bus between Avignon and Gordes. The indicative route goes through the Avignon Centre bus station, a bus to Coustellet on the road to Apt, then Line 917 to the Place du Château in Gordes. An aggregator site gives a trip of about two hours, for €5 to €6, with about three departures a day on the final leg. The operator, Zou!, has not confirmed these figures: check the seasonal timetable on the Région Sud website before you commit, as times vary by period. Line 917 also serves Roussillon, Bonnieux, Joucas and Maubec. Another option is the train to Cavaillon, then a taxi to Gordes, about 49 minutes according to an aggregator, for a fare that the same aggregator puts between €46 and €67 per ride.
The Roussillon Ochre Trail
The adult ticket costs €3.50, bought on site without a reservation. Children under ten enter free, and groups of fifteen people or more pay €2.50 each. A combined ticket with the Usine d’Ocre Mathieu costs €7.50. There are two routes: a short one of about thirty minutes and a long one of about fifty minutes, with steps that are not suitable for strollers. Published hours vary between sources for 2026, and some pages still show an older price. Check with the Pays d’Apt Luberon tourist office before you go. The Roussillon town hall offers a free guided visit on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m., from July 15 to October 29, 2026, meeting at the totem after the reception. The simplest is to fit it into a tour that passes through Roussillon, rather than making a separate trip by car for it.
The Abbey of Notre-Dame de Sénanque
The adult rate was €8 for 2026 according to the PACA Tourisme website. You can take a guided visit of about one hour in French, or a self-guided visit with an audio guide available in ten languages. An extract from luberon.fr, not confirmed on the page, gives 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday: confirm on site. On booking, the sources disagree: Cityzeum recommends it in high season, and an extract from luberon.fr says it is mandatory, without the page confirming this. Do not rely on a price range found elsewhere: a private visit is offered at a much higher rate, which is not the public rate. Lavandin generally blooms in late June and July.
Biking Around the Luberon
No electric bike departs from Avignon in the products in this selection. If you want to pedal, the Apt-Cavaillon stage, about 46 km (29 miles), passes through Bonnieux, Oppède-le-Vieux, Lacoste and Ménerbes. France Vélo Tourisme describes it as doable by bike or by electric-assist bike, with a few short climbs. The Park also points to a signposted cycle loop of about 236 km (147 miles) around the massif. These are self-guided routes. If you are looking for a guided ride, check that it departs from Avignon and that the electric bike is included in the service.
Choosing the Right Season
The lavender bloom, in late June and July, remains the time for the fields. From November to January, five of the nine products stay open, but the available days are limited for some. Check the exact date when you book, as the price may change. For the 2027 season, departure times are to be confirmed at booking: 8:45 a.m. for card 3 and 8:00 a.m. for card 9. The timetable we checked gives 8:15 a.m. for card 2, but the listing asks you to arrive before 8:45 a.m.
Mistakes to Avoid
First mistake: assuming « Luberon » is a separate destination in the catalog. Search instead for « from Avignon » or « Provence », and read the program to see whether the Pont du Gard or Saint-Rémy are on the menu. Second mistake: booking a tour without checking its dates, especially in winter, when a product may have only a handful of available days. Third mistake: forgetting lunch. Several tours do not include it. Pack a picnic or book a table in advance.
