Wizz Air flies Naples to Trieste from 14 December 2026, four times a week, from €19 one way out of Naples (€19.99 out of Trieste, introductory fare). Barcelona and Bilbao follow in mid-December, according to the press, from €23 and €25 one way.
Checked on against the official sources cited (Naples airport, Trieste Airport, Wizz Air route pages).
Naples gains new Wizz Air routes in December 2026, to north-east Italy and to Spain, but not every date is official yet. The airline opens a route to Trieste, routes to Barcelona and Bilbao, and a third service to Madrid, also announced. This guide separates what an official document confirms from what only the press reports. It gives the starting fares checked on 23 October 2026, the baggage rules and the airport access for each city. Madrid is not covered in detail.
1. The routes announced for December 2026
The Naples airport press release of 18 May 2026 announces a third Airbus based in Naples from December 2026, along with three new routes to Spain: Barcelona, Madrid and Bilbao. That release gives neither a departure day nor a fare. The Trieste route, however, is covered by a press release dated 16 July 2026 that sets 14 December 2026 as the first flight day, with four flights a week. The Barcelona and Bilbao dates come from the specialist press, notably The Local, dated 20 May 2026.
| Route | Announced start | Frequency | Arrival airport (distance from centre) | Starting fare (one way) | Date status |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Naples to Trieste | 14 December 2026 | 4 per week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday) | Trieste Ronchi dei Legionari (about 35 km) | from €19 | official (Naples airport, press release of 16 July 2026) |
| Naples to Barcelona | mid-December 2026 (14 December according to the press) | 1 per day | El Prat (about 15 km) | from €23 | press, the release does not give the day |
| Naples to Bilbao | 14 or 15 December 2026 | 3 per week (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday) | Loiu (about 12 km) | from €25 | date disputed between sources |

2. Naples, the base for the new routes

Naples (NAP), Capodichino airport
Naples becomes the departure base for three of the routes described here. The Naples airport press release of 18 May 2026 announces a third aircraft based on site from December 2026, which explains why one city serves routes to Spain and to north-east Italy. Capodichino airport is about 6 km from the centre, according to the Wizz Air route page checked on 23 October 2026.
Highlights
- A route to Trieste from 14 December 2026, according to the official release
- A third aircraft based in Naples from December 2026
- An airport close to the centre, about 6 km away
To get into the city, a shuttle bus, the Alibus, links the airport to the central station and the port. According to the press, it costs about €5 and its ticket is valid for 90 minutes after the first validation. That figure still needs confirming on anm.it, the public operator, before you travel.
A few days in Naples is enough for a first visit. A cooking workshop, where you make Neapolitan pizza then a tiramisu with a local chef, lasts 3 hours according to the Viator listing checked on 23 October 2026, and the listing shows free cancellation (cut-off date not checked).
3. Barcelona, one flight a day announced for December

Barcelona (BCN), El Prat airport
The Wizz Air route page checked on 23 October 2026 shows a starting fare from €23 one way for December, and from €25 for January 2027. The specialist press announces a daily flight from 14 December 2026, according to The Local (20 May 2026). The Naples airport release gives no day: the date therefore comes from the press, not from an airport document.
El Prat airport is about 15 km south-west of Barcelona. According to the same press article, Wizz Air is the third operator there by volume, behind Vueling and Ryanair. Fares for the Aerobús and the airport metro are not covered here: the operators’ official sites were not re-checked, and figures found on third-party sites are not reliable enough for a budget.
On journey time, the Wizz Air page indicates about 2 h 30 min of flight. An aggregator gives 2 h 10 min for a direct flight already operated by another airline: this is third-party data, which we could not cross-check against the timetable of the new route.
Highlights
- One flight a day, according to the press, from mid-December 2026
- Starting fares from €23 in December, checked on the Wizz Air site
- Wizz Air is the third operator at El Prat by volume, behind Vueling and Ryanair, according to The Local
For a day trip out of the city, our day trips from Barcelona, compared help you fill your stay without another flight.
4. Bilbao, three flights a week and one date still to confirm

Bilbao (BIO), Loiu airport
The Bilbao route is the most uncertain of the three as far as the date goes. The The Local article of 20 May 2026 announces 15 December, while The Flight Club, in its May and August 2026 articles, gives 14 December for this route. The sources disagree: we do not settle it, and the fairest wording is « mid-December 2026, 14 or 15 December depending on the source ».
The announced frequency is three flights a week, on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. According to the same article, the line runs until the end of October 2027, and tickets went on sale from 18 May 2026. The sources we re-read do not say whether the route is direct: confirm on wizzair.com. The flight time for Naples-Bilbao was not found in the sources consulted.
On urban transport, the airport is linked to the centre by bus A3247, from Bilbao’s intermodal station. The Spanish tourist office page spain.info, checked 23 October 2026, says it runs from 06:00 to 00:00 in the airport-to-city direction, and from 05:00 to 22:00 in the other direction, with a bus every 15 to 20 minutes. The bus fare is not confirmed for 2026: a 2018 source quotes a special ticket, probably out of date, which we do not repeat.
For a taxi, the same page indicates about €27 to €30 to the centre, and €32 to €35 to the intermodal station. These are indicative values, not official fares.
Highlights
- Three flights a week, according to the press, with the line announced until end of October 2027
- An airport about 12 km from the centre and a bus every 15 to 20 minutes
- A fare from €25 one way, checked on 23 October 2026
5. Trieste, the only official date and the lowest fare

Trieste (TRS), Ronchi dei Legionari airport
The Naples to Trieste route is the only one of the three whose start date appears in an official release. Trieste airport’s release of 16 July 2026 announces a fare from €19.99 one way from Trieste, presented as an introductory fare, and specifies that the aircraft is an Airbus A321neo. The Wizz Air route page checked on 23 October 2026, for its part, shows from Naples: from €19 in general, €25 in December, €19 in January 2027 and €20 in March 2027.
Trieste airport also offers a long-distance bus to Naples, among other destinations (Rijeka, Nice, Ljubljana, Zagreb), according to its « Bus » page. That page gives neither a timetable nor a fare for the Naples service. If you are choosing between the plane and the bus, check the timetables before you decide, as we could not find them.
To reach central Trieste from the airport, the same page lists local buses run by TPL FVG and APT Gorizia. No official fare or journey time was found on this page: ask the airport before you travel.
Highlights
- The lowest starting fare of the three routes checked, from €19 out of Naples
- Four flights a week: Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday
- A land alternative by long-distance bus, to be checked with the airport
6. How much a ticket costs, month by month
The Wizz Air route pages show, for each month, a minimum fare one way. The values below were checked on 23 October 2026. They are minimums seen that day: they are not guaranteed and they vary by departure day.
| Route | December 2026 | January 2027 | February 2027 | March 2027 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Naples to Trieste | €25 | €19 | no result | €20 |
| Naples to Bilbao | €27 | €30 | €25 | €80 |
| Naples to Barcelona | €23 | €25 | €25 | €32 |
Source: Wizz Air route pages, Naples to Bilbao, Naples to Barcelona and Naples to Trieste, checked 23 October 2026.
Three observations come out of this table. The Bilbao flight shows €80 in March 2027, against €25 in February: the page gives no explanation, and we offer none. The Trieste route shows no fare for February 2027, so there is no price to take and no average to calculate. Finally, these minimums do not cover every departure day, which is a reason to compare several dates before booking.
The ticket price is only part of the budget. Baggage and the Priority option, covered in the next section, can weigh more than the starting fare itself.
7. Baggage: what is free and what is not
Wizz Air’s rules have several levels, and the confusion often comes from the trolley case. According to the airline’s baggage page, checked on 23 October 2026, the free cabin bag measures 40 × 30 × 20 cm and weighs 10 kg at most. It must fit under the seat. The 55 × 40 × 23 cm trolley, which many guides present as standard, is included only with the Wizz Priority option.
| Bag type | Rule | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Free cabin bag | 40 × 30 × 20 cm, 10 kg maximum, under the seat | official |
| Cabin trolley 55 × 40 × 23 cm | included only with Wizz Priority | official |
| Wizz Priority | €10 to €60 online or by phone; €65 to €75 at the airport | official, checked 23 October 2026 |
| Hold baggage | 10, 20, 26 or 32 kg, bought in advance | prices not checked on the page |
Source: Wizz Air baggage page and Wizz Priority page, checked 23 October 2026.
The price of hold baggage is not covered here. The ranges found on comparison sites and guides run from €13 to more than €86 for 20 kg, with gaps too wide to publish a figure. The safest approach is to check the price during booking, at the same time as the ticket. The Priority option costs between €10 and €60 online, and €65 to €75 at the airport, according to the Wizz Air page.
Several travellers report baggage fees paid at the check-in desk rather than online (unverified accounts). The price gap, even if reported by a few accounts, is a reason to pay for your bag before the flight.
8. Getting from the city centre to the airport, city by city
The table below sums up access to each of the four airports. Distances come from the Wizz Air route pages. Transport and timetables come from official sites where they exist. Fares we could not confirm on an official source are left blank: this is deliberate, as a gap is better than a wrong figure.
| Airport | Distance from centre | Public transport checked | Fare checked | Data status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Naples (NAP) | about 6 km | Alibus, shuttle to the central station and port | about €5 according to the press | to be confirmed on anm.it |
| Bilbao (BIO) | about 12 km | bus A3247 from the intermodal station | not confirmed for 2026; indicative taxi €27 to €30 | official timetables (spain.info) |
| Barcelona (BCN) | about 15 km | Aerobús and airport metro | not checked on the operators’ sites | to be confirmed with the operators |
| Trieste (TRS) | about 35 km | local buses (TPL FVG, APT Gorizia) and long-distance bus to Naples | not checked | timetables and fares to be confirmed |

Formalities: entry into the Schengen area and ETIAS
The EU Entry/Exit System (EES) has been operating since 10 April 2026, according to search results citing the European Commission. We could not read the official page: check it on the European Commission portal before you leave, and expect the biometric check at your first entry.
For the ETIAS travel authorisation, no date of entry into force is confirmed in the sources we could read. Do not treat it as a formality already in force, and do not assume it will apply to your travel date.
For the identity documents required, we did not check the official page in this review. Check the GOV.UK foreign travel advice for your destination, and confirm which document is valid for your nationality.
9. What other guides don’t tell you
Mainstream articles often repeat the same figures, sometimes without dating them. Here are the points we checked, which are missing or presented differently elsewhere.
- Only the Trieste route has an official start date. The Naples airport release of 18 May 2026 gives no day for Barcelona and Bilbao. Guides that announce 14 December for all three routes rely on the press (Naples airport release, checked 23 October 2026).
- The €19.99 fare applies to departures from Trieste. The introductory fare announced by Trieste Airport on 16 July 2026 is from €19.99 one way from Trieste. From Naples, the Wizz Air page checked on 23 October 2026 shows from €19 in general, and €25 in December (Trieste Airport release, checked 23 October 2026).
- The closure of Capodichino in November 2026 is not settled. ENAC announced runway works for November 2026 in July 2025, with fewer closure days, without fixing precise dates. The 2026 press gives different periods, and no airport release published in 2026 was re-read (ENAC release of 1 July 2025, checked 23 October 2026).
- The bus from Trieste to Naples exists, but has no published timetable. The « Bus » page of Trieste airport lists a daily long-distance service to Naples. It gives neither a timetable nor a fare, and most guides mention only the local shuttle (Trieste airport Bus page, checked 23 October 2026).
- The trolley is not included in the basic ticket. The free Wizz Air cabin bag measures 40 × 30 × 20 cm. The 55 × 40 × 23 cm trolley is included only with the Priority option (Wizz Priority page, checked 23 October 2026).
10. Preparing your trip
For a stay in Naples, Barcelona, Bilbao or Trieste, two services are useful: a mobile connection as soon as you land, and a way to claim compensation if your flight is delayed or cancelled.
Mobile data without changing your SIM card. Useful as soon as you leave the airport, to check the Bilbao bus or book a taxi in Naples.
Plans depend on the country and the durationA service that checks whether a delay or cancellation entitles you to compensation, under EU Regulation 261/2004. The amount depends on the flight.
