Rann Utsav 2026-2027 runs at Dhordo from November 1, 2026 to March 7, 2027. The full-moon nights published by rannutsavgujarat.in fall on November 23 to 25 and December 22 to 24, 2026. An entry permit is required to visit the White Rann.

Checked on against the organizer’s pages and the media cited below.

The 2026-2027 Rann Utsav season takes place at Dhordo, on the edge of the Great Rann of Kutch, from November 1, 2026 to March 7, 2027. The full-moon nights published by rannutsavgujarat.in fall on November 23 to 25 and December 22 to 24, 2026. This guide covers the dates, the published rates, how to get there from Bhuj and the permit process, with the date each source was checked and a note on what still needs confirming.

1. Dhordo and the Great Rann: what you came to see

Dhordo, on the edge of the White Rann

Packages from INR 8,000 to 30,000 per person (2025-2026 season) 2 to 3 nights recommended Sunny days, cold nights November 1 to March 7

Dhordo isn’t a tourist village in the usual sense. It’s a point on the edge of the Great Rann of Kutch, a salt flat of about 26,000 km² in total. Most of it floods during the monsoon, and then the water evaporates over the long dry season, leaving the White Rann, the white salt crust that gives the place its reputation (Wikipedia, Rann of Kutch, checked October 23, 2026). The white crust therefore depends on the previous monsoon.

The Tent City is a temporary camp set up beside the Great Rann. You sleep there, eat there and join the programs, which is what sets it apart from a simple viewpoint. If you want to extend your stay toward Dholavira, Viator offers a multi-day tour that covers that site and the Rann of Kutch. It suits people who’d rather not organize the trip themselves. From the Rann, the « Road to Heaven » leads to the site over 30 km (section 9). The price on Viator is a starting point that changes with the date and the number of travelers, so check it for the day you want.

Highlights

  • A flat white plain whose brightness shifts with the daylight and the moonlight
  • Moonless nights with the darkest skies: November 9, December 8, 2026, January 7 and February 6, 2027, according to Outlook Traveller
  • The artisan villages of Bhujodi, 8 km from Bhuj, and Ajrakhpur, 6 km east of Bhujodi
Pixidia tip: book early. The pages we read report nearly full stays for Diwali week, for Christmas and for the full-moon nights. You book directly through the organizer’s site, booking.thetentcity.in (page read October 23, 2026).

2. Dates for the 2026-2027 season

The 2026-2027 season runs from November 1, 2026 to March 7, 2027. The special-dates page on rannutsavgujarat.in gives these limits, and the other sources we read match them: GoAsia, Outlook Traveller and Travel Trade Journal. One rannutsav.com page gives « November 4, 2026 to March 4, 2027 » in its text. That discrepancy isn’t settled. The title and the other sources use November 1 and March 7, so we do too. Use those dates, and check them again when you book.

According to booking sites, high-demand periods are the busiest and most expensive of the season. Diwali week, November 8 to 14, 2026, is the busiest and priciest stretch of the season, and November 8 is the festival day itself. For more on the festival in India, our guide Diwali 2026 (November 8): where to celebrate the festival of lights in India, Singapore and Leicester covers the cities to visit. For a detour to Rajasthan, see Diwali 2026 in Jaipur (Pink City): 8 experiences for the festival of lights in Rajasthan.

November 24, 2026 is also Kartik Purnima, the full-moon day of Dev Deepawali, and, depending on the calendar, Guru Nanak Jayanti. The calendars differ by a day on the second (November 24 or 25), so if the date matters to you, check it with a gurdwara (Hindutone, Kartik Purnima 2026).

Be careful with the dates of the previous season, which opened October 23, 2025 and closed March 4, 2026 according to the sources we read. They don’t apply to 2026-2027.

3. The full moons of November and December 2026

Which night to pick for the White Rann

November: 23 to 25 December: 22 to 24 Full at 8:23 p.m. IST on November 24

Sites that describe the season present the full-moon nights as the most sought after for the White Rann (GoAsia, Outlook Traveller). The simplest approach is to start from the window published by rannutsavgujarat.in, then check the exact full-moon time in the table below.

The table brings together the published windows, the full-moon times and the moonless nights. It doesn’t replace confirmation from the organizer when you book.

Pixidia tip: the moonless nights (November 9 and December 8, 2026) offer the darkest sky for stargazing. If stargazing matters more to you than the white of the salt, pick those.

Source: rannutsavgujarat.in, special dates (published windows); GoAsia (wider windows); full-moon times from astronomy sites (MoonGiant, Star Walk), Paris conversions calculated; checked October 23, 2026.

In November, the full moon falls on the evening of the 24th, India time. The night of the 24th is therefore the night of the full moon, with the nights of the 23rd and the 25th on either side. In December, the full moon arrives early on the morning of the 24th, at 6:58 a.m. IST. The night of the 23rd to the 24th is therefore the closest to the full moon, and the night of the 24th to the 25th begins after the exact moment.

Astronomical timing doesn’t tell you when the moon rises over Dhordo. We found no reliable moonrise time for the site, so check a local ephemeris service on the days you’re there.

4. The Tent City in Dhordo: stays and rates

What the Tent City offers

Tents, bhungas and cottages Meals depending on the package Before taxes

The Tent City is a temporary setup, rebuilt every season. Its accommodation runs from the Swiss cottage, with or without air conditioning, up to the Rajwadi suites and the premium tents, along with bhungas, the traditional mud-walled huts (rannutsavgujarat.in, Tent City page, checked October 23, 2026).

The program that Travel Trade Journal lists includes regional cooking, adventure and wellness activities, excursions, stargazing sessions, performances by the Siddi community and an artisan haat. Meals, transfers and excursions depend on the package you choose.

Pixidia tip: the 25% « Rann Sale » that Travel Trade Journal mentioned has ended. It’s no longer an offer you can count on.

Rates: ranges, not an official price list

We found no verifiable official price list for 2026-2027, because the pages we read send you to the booking page. What’s published is a range of INR 8,000 to 30,000 per person, depending on category, for the previous season (rannutsav.com). An operator, Praveg, lists rates for 2026-2027 in a brochure. We read only an extract, without opening the full PDF, so the amounts below are given as such, along with the validity period the brochure states.

Source: 2026-2027 brochure from the operator Praveg (extract read, PDF not read in full); rannutsav.com, Rann Utsav guide for the published range; checked October 23, 2026.

These amounts are before taxes. The 2022-2023 season rates, INR 4,600 to 25,000, still appear on an online guide (rannutsav.net). They aren’t comparable anymore, so don’t set them against this season’s figures.

Two points still need checking when you book: what’s included, transfers and the permit among them, and the ID you’ll need at check-in.

5. Getting to Dhordo from Bhuj, by plane, train or bus

Bhuj is the gateway. Dhordo is about 80 to 85 km away on the NH341 road. The distance matches across sources, but the travel times don’t, as the table shows.

Routes to Dhordo and Bhuj: distances, durations and transport modes

Source: rannutsav.com, how to reach Rann Utsav and rannutsav.net (distances); Outlook Traveller (about 3 hours’ drive); CabBazar and a tour operator (1.5 to 1.75 hours, extracts); Wikipedia, Bhuj (connections and flight time); checked October 23, 2026.

By plane

Bhuj (BHJ) has a daily Air India flight from Mumbai, about 1.5 hours in the air (Wikipedia, Bhuj). rannutsav.com lists regular flights from Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Delhi, without schedules. Ahmedabad is the nearest international airport to the region. The drive from Ahmedabad takes several hours, and we didn’t verify that time against timetables.

By train

Bhuj’s railway station is served by the Kutch Express (19131/19132), which runs daily between Bhuj and Bandra in Mumbai. rannutsav.com also mentions connections to Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Delhi, with or without a change.

By bus and taxi

State and private buses serve Bhuj from Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot and Bhuj itself. A 2024 check put the GSRTC Volvo fare from Ahmedabad to Bhuj at about INR 901, and INR 1,093 to Dhordo. We haven’t verified those figures for 2026. Outside a package, plan on a taxi. A driver in Bhuj is quoted at about INR 2,000 to 3,000 a day, an undated estimate.

Transfers: included or not

Most packages include a transfer from Bhuj at fixed times. Individual transfers cost extra. The transfer times don’t appear on the pages we read, so check them before you book your flight or train. A late arrival could leave you without a ride.

6. Entry permit: what’s confirmed and what isn’t

The entry permit for the White Rann is required. GoAsia points to the official Gujarat permit portal, and Outlook Traveller says to get the permit needed for Dhordo before your visit (GoAsia, Outlook Traveller, both checked October 23, 2026).

Day visitors go through the rannpermit.gujarat.gov.in portal, with a photo ID. Tent City guests get their permit through their booking. We couldn’t open the portal itself while writing this, so check the online procedure before you leave.

What isn’t confirmed

  • The fee amount. Travel guides quote amounts for an adult, a child and a vehicle. None is confirmed by the official portal, so don’t rely on them without checking.
  • The rules for foreign visitors. The texts often cited date from 1963, supplemented by a 2011 parliamentary answer. Whether they apply to the White Rann hasn’t been confirmed. We therefore don’t claim it’s banned or allowed: check the portal or the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs.
  • Drones. We found no rule specific to Kutch, and we didn’t verify the general Indian rule. Don’t fly a drone until you’ve confirmed it.

Rules on site

The guides we read recommend staying on marked routes, not leaving litter, and not disturbing wildlife or restricted areas. They also advise buying directly from artisans and asking permission before photographing a person or their work (Outlook Traveller, gujaratrannutsav.com).

7. Sunny days, cold nights: weather and clothing

Days are sunny, with very strong light (Outlook Traveller). Nights are cold: December and January are the coolest months, at about 11°C (52°F) at night according to rannutsav.net. Several guides note that visitors arriving from southern India often underestimate the night chill.

  • Warm layers, a beanie and gloves for the December and January nights
  • Walking shoes, for the salt, the tracks and the villages
  • Sunscreen and sunglasses, since the light is very strong
  • A water bottle, because the desert climate dehydrates you (gujaratrannutsav.com)

For clothing, the villages and temples expect modest dress (gujaratrannutsav.com).

8. Artisan villages and the Siddi community

Bhujodi, Ajrakhpur, Nirona: Kutch’s crafts

Bhujodi, 8 km from Bhuj Ajrakh, tie-dye, weaving Lacquer and bells in Nirona

Bhujodi, about 8 km from Bhuj, is a village of weavers and dyers, where weaving, block printing and tie-dye are practiced. The Ashapura Craft Park is about a kilometer away. Ajrakhpur, 6 km east of Bhujodi, is known for ajrakh block printing with natural dyes: according to one guide, only one family in Kutch still carves the blocks. Nirona, 40 km northwest of Bhuj, is known for its lacquerwork and bell making. This information comes from travel guides and wasn’t verified in 2026, so confirm workshop hours on site.

  • The Tent City’s haat brings together ajrakh, bandhani, embroidery, jewelry, mirror work and lippan art
  • Sumrasar, a village where mostly women work, offers handmade dolls and ajrakh printing
Pixidia tip: buy directly from the artisans, with no middleman, and ask permission before photographing a person or a piece of work.

The Siddi community

Travel Trade Journal describes the Siddi as Gujarat’s Afro-Indian community. During the season they perform dance and music shows, including the Jodiya Pava, the Santar and the Ghado-Gamelo.

9. Dholavira and Kala Dungar: possible side trips

Dholavira is an Indus Valley civilization site, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on July 27, 2021 (Wikipedia, Dholavira). It sits in the village of Khadirbet, on Khadir Bet island, within the Kutch Desert Wildlife Sanctuary.

From the Rann, the road known as the « Road to Heaven » crosses the Great Rann for 30 km. For the 2026-2027 season, Evoke is adding 35 seasonal tents near its Dholavira property (Travel Trade Journal, checked October 23, 2026). The side trip can therefore start from Dhordo, without going back to Bhuj.

Entry fees and site hours vary depending on the guide, and we couldn’t consult any ASI source. We therefore give no amount: check fees and hours with the ASI or on site before you go.

Kala Dungar is the highest point in Kutch (Outlook Traveller). Its access and hours aren’t documented in the sources we read.

10. Depending on your travel style

  • First trip: three nights is enough for the Tent City, the Rann and a day in Bhuj with the artisans. Pick a package that includes the transfer from Bhuj.
  • Couples: one full-moon night, November 23 to 25 or December 22 to 24, gives the strongest setting. In the Praveg extract we read, the Rajwadi tent has the highest rates in the table.
  • Families: the Praveg extract distinguishes people over 12. Ask for the exact child rate when you book. Diwali week and Christmas fill up fast, so book early.
  • Tight budget: aim for the lower end of the packages, take the state bus from Ahmedabad or Bhuj, and avoid the high-demand weeks. A taxi outside the package adds up quickly.
  • Limited mobility: we found no verified information on the accessibility of the Tent City or the desert tracks. Ask the organizer before booking.

What other guides don’t tell you

Three points from the sources we checked on October 23, 2026, that don’t appear in the other sections of this guide.

  • The Tent City is run by Evoke Experiences, in partnership with Gujarat Tourism. The « about » page of rannutsavgujarat.in carries the line « Rann Utsav – By Gujarat Tourism ». Sources: Travel Trade Journal, Rann Utsav 2026-27 and rannutsavgujarat.in, about (both checked October 23, 2026).
  • Booking is direct, and the cancellation terms don’t appear on the pages we read. The channel listed is the organizer’s booking page, booking.thetentcity.in. Read the terms there before you pay anything. Source: booking.thetentcity.in (checked October 23, 2026).
  • The published windows are narrower than GoAsia’s. The organizer publishes November 23 to 25 and December 22 to 24, 2026, while GoAsia gives November 22 to 25 and December 21 to 24. A traveler who arrives on November 22 hoping for the full moon could be disappointed. Sources: rannutsavgujarat.in, special dates and GoAsia (both checked October 23, 2026).

What are the dates of Rann Utsav 2026-2027?

The Tent City season runs from November 1, 2026 to March 7, 2027, according to the organizer’s site and the guides we read on October 23, 2026. The most in-demand periods are Diwali week, November 8 to 14, and the Christmas and New Year stretch. One rannutsav.com page gives March 4 in its text, but its title and the other sources say March 7.

What’s the best night to see the White Rann?

The full-moon windows published by rannutsavgujarat.in are November 23 to 25 and December 22 to 24, 2026, then January 21 to 23 and February 19 to 21, 2027. According to astronomy sites, the full moon falls on November 24 at 8:23 p.m. IST and on December 24 at 6:58 a.m. IST. The night of December 23 to 24 is therefore the closest to the full moon.

How much does a night in the Tent City cost?

rannutsav.com quotes packages of INR 8,000 to 30,000 per person depending on category, for the previous season. An extract of a Praveg brochure, not read in full, lists INR 15,000 a night for 2026-2027 for a two-person Rajwadi AC tent, and INR 18,000 on full-moon or blackout days. These amounts are before taxes and, according to the brochure, valid from October 15, 2026 to February 28, 2027. Confirm them when you book.

How do I get from Bhuj to Dhordo?

Dhordo is about 80 to 85 km from Bhuj, on the NH341 road. Most packages include a transfer from Bhuj’s airport or railway station, at fixed times. By taxi, the drive is given as 1.5 to 3 hours depending on the source, and the sources disagree, so plan for the longer end.

Do I need a permit to enter the White Rann?

Yes, according to GoAsia and Outlook Traveller. Day visitors go through the rannpermit.gujarat.gov.in portal with a photo ID; Tent City guests get the permit through their booking. No official source confirms the fee, and the rules for foreign visitors still need checking.

How many nights should I plan?

Guides recommend two to three nights for the Tent City and the Rann, plus days for the artisan villages, Kala Dungar and, if you like, Dholavira. For a first visit, three nights leaves time to see the salt at sunrise, the villages of Bhujodi and Ajrakhpur, and a trip to Dholavira.

Can I visit Dholavira from Dhordo?

Yes. The « Road to Heaven, » a 30 km road, crosses the Great Rann and leads to the site, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since July 27, 2021. Entry fees and hours vary by source, so this article doesn’t give a figure. Check them with the ASI before you go.

What’s the weather like, and what should I wear?

Days are sunny and nights are cold, at about 11°C (52°F) in December and January according to rannutsav.net. Pack warm layers, a beanie and gloves, walking shoes, sunscreen and sunglasses. A water bottle helps, since the desert climate dehydrates you.

Is the Rann always white?

The White Rann forms after the rainy season: the plain floods during the monsoon, and the water evaporates during the dry season. The look of the salt depends on the previous monsoon, and no information on the 2026-2027 conditions has been confirmed. The safest move is to ask the organizer before you book.
