The 98th Spengler Cup runs in Davos from 26 to 31 December 2026 at the Eisstadion Davos, with 11 matches and the final on 31 December at 12:10 pm. Standing tickets start at CHF 38, and the cheapest seated place costs CHF 98, before VAT and fees. Ticket sales opened on 8 September 2026.
Checked on against the official sources cited (spenglercup.ch, official schedule of 4 June 2026, 2026 price grid).
From Christmas to New Year, Davos runs on the Spengler Cup. Often described as the oldest invitational ice hockey tournament still running, it was founded in 1923 by Carl Spengler, according to the Historical Dictionary of Switzerland. The 98th edition brings six teams to the Eisstadion Davos from 26 to 31 December 2026. This guide covers what you need before you go: the schedule, 2026 ticket prices, getting there from Zurich, places to stay, and the points that most guides leave out.
1. A winter festival atmosphere around the rink

Davos, a mountain resort that runs on hockey for one week
Davos sits at roughly 1,560 metres above sea level, and the Cup takes over the town for the whole Christmas week. The December temperature range comes from a commercial climate site, BestDateWeather, and does not replace official averages: pack warm layers and shoes that grip frozen ground. Around the Eisstadion, Swiss Deluxe Hotels describes a fan tent with giant screens, live music and food stalls. Airial, which also covers the venue, points to a strong presence of local HC Davos supporters, with drums and trumpets. The crowd is mixed: families, hockey fans and travellers who come for the atmosphere.
Highlights
- A tournament running since 1923, with strong HC Davos supporters at home games.
- A hall with a wooden roof, which tourist listings highlight.
- A ski resort at peak season, so you can combine a match with a day in the mountains.
Between matches, the mountains are easy to explore from the air. The tandem flight below takes you above the valley while you stay in Davos: about two hours, and the title promises a flight at 1,000 metres. As of 23 October 2026, Viator shows all six days from 26 to 31 December as open for two adults, with four slots a day, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. This is not a guarantee: confirm the slot when you book, and keep a backup plan in case the weather rules out flying.
2. The schedule: 11 matches in six days
The official schedule, published on 4 June 2026, has two matches a day from 26 to 30 December, then the final on Thursday 31 December at 12:10 pm. The first face-off is on Saturday 26 December at 3:10 pm, between SCL Tigers and Adler Mannheim. HC Davos play in the Cattini group: their two group matches are at 8:15 pm on Sunday 27 and Monday 28 December. Playoff pairings depend on the group results, and the document remains « subject to change ».

3. Tickets and prices for 2026
The official 2026 price grid is dated January 2026 and sets the lowest price at CHF 38 for a standing place. Prices exclude VAT, system fees and commissions, so the total you pay is higher than the figure shown. The table lists a selection of sectors, from cheapest to most expensive.
| Sector | Single ticket | Tournament pass (6 matches) |
|---|---|---|
| W19, standing places | 38 | 360 |
| O11, cheapest seated place | 98 | not offered |
| O7 and O10, Balkon (balcony) | 107 | 1,000 |
| N1 and N3, Seite (side) | 125 | 1,150 |
| N1 and N3, Mitte (centre) | 135 | 1,250 |
| S12 and S14, Rinkside 2nd row | 150 | not offered |
| S12 and S14, Rinkside 1st row | 175 | not offered |
| N2 and S13, Business | 180 | 1,700 |
| W17 and W21, UBS Family-Sektor (2 adults + 2 children) | 222 | 2,310 |
Source: SC2026 price grid (PDF, « Davos, January 2026 »), checked on 23 October 2026.
Three rules apply to every sector. There are no discounts for children, young people, apprentices or AHV (Swiss pension) recipients. A child aged 4 or over needs their own ticket. Rinkside seats, at the edge of the ice, are sold as single tickets only, with no tournament pass.
The 8 September announcement also mentions an ARENA package from CHF 230. Its contents are not detailed in the sources we read, so we do not describe it.
To buy, go through the official site spenglercup.ch, which links to the ticket office. The official page warns against resale platforms: avoid them, even when they show seats. Sales opened on Tuesday 8 September 2026 at 10:00 am, and the ticket page lists a step on Wednesday 4 November 2026, still to be reconfirmed.

4. The Eisstadion Davos, a hall with a wooden roof

Kurgartenstrasse 6, 7270 Davos Platz
The Eisstadion Davos hosts every match of the Cup. According to historical sources, its frame is glued laminated timber, and the hall opened in 1979 after building work stalled over an appeal against the planning permit. The Structurae entry for the hall gives its history. Sources put the capacity at about 7,000, though they do not agree on the exact figure. The hall’s name follows its sponsors; event documents refer to it as Eisstadion Davos.
What to know
- One hall for all 11 matches, so there is no travel between venues.
- Rinkside seats at the edge of the ice, in the first and second rows only, cost more than the central seats.
- Do not confuse it with the outdoor rink, also called Eisstadion Davos, which does not host the tournament.
5. Getting there from Zurich and Landquart

Train, transfer or car: the train is the simplest option
From Zurich Airport, the typical route runs via Zurich HB, then Landquart, where you change for the RhB line that climbs the Prättigau valley to Davos Platz, via Klosters. A booking site gives about 2 h 40 with connections and a service from about 6:15 am to 11:36 pm: this is a commercial estimate, which we could not check against official timetables. The same site gives about 1 h 50 to 2 h for a private transfer, at an indicative price of about €400. Welcome Pickups publishes these estimates.
What to know about the line
- No closure of the Klosters-Davos line is announced for late December. The 2026 works took place from 27 April to 13 May, then from 7 September to 16 October, according to davos.ch.
- By car, allow about 158 km and two hours of driving, with a motorway vignette for Switzerland.
| Mode | Indicative time | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Train (ZRH, Zurich HB, Landquart, RhB) | About 2 h 40 | Change at Landquart, service from about 6:15 am to 11:36 pm according to the source |
| Private transfer | About 1 h 50 to 2 h | Indicative price of about €400, not verified |
| Car | About 2 h | About 158 km via the A3 then the A13, heavy traffic possible in season |
Source: Welcome Pickups and Transfeero (commercial estimates), checked on 23 October 2026. Timetables to be confirmed on sbb.ch and rhb.ch.
If you drive, a motorway vignette is required in Switzerland. According to resellers, it is valid from 1 December 2025 to 31 January 2027 for CHF 40. The ch.ch page, seen only as a search extract, is old: reconfirm before you leave. Parking is reportedly full during Christmas week, but we have no dated official source on this point. For a match, the train or transfer is simpler: ask the tourist office before you come by car.
6. Where to stay between Christmas and New Year

Book early, with no reliable price benchmark
We could not find a reliable average price for the nights of 26 to 31 December 2026. The one-off rates we found relate to other dates and are not representative. During peak ski and tournament season, some hotels sell out on specific dates: the demand is real. Budget options such as the Spenglers Inn or the Spengler Hostel come up on booking platforms, but their ratings vary by aggregator: check them before you book.
One option is often overlooked: the Premium Card. Accommodation providers hand it out from the first night, and it opens local public transport. According to the official Davos listing, this programme dates from the 2025/26 season and must be reconfirmed for 2026/27. Premium Card, davos.ch.
What to know
- Klosters is the other serious option, linked to Davos by the RhB line. The exact journey time still needs checking on rhb.ch.
- Some « Silvester in Davos » packages, with dinner and extras, are listed on booking platforms. We found no prices for them, and they are not official offers from the resort.
To widen your winter-stay comparison, the Basel Christmas market guide 2026 covers how to get there from Alsace, another option for a winter weekend in Switzerland.
7. New Year’s Eve and New Year in Davos
The final is on 31 December at 12:10 pm, which leaves the evening free for your New Year’s Eve. We found no official New Year’s Eve 2026 programme in Davos as of 23 October 2026, so we do not list any festive events in the town.
On fireworks, private displays are banned in Davos according to an older article from Südostschweiz. The ban itself is old, but sources disagree on when it took effect (2019 or 2020). A Graubünden Ferien announcement of 23 October 2025 promotes « Silvester ohne Feuerwerk » (New Year’s Eve without fireworks) to protect animals and nature across the canton, without targeting Davos specifically.
If you are still deciding on your dates, the Christmas and New Year 2026-27 calendar shows how to make a few days of leave go further on a longer trip.
8. Which option suits you
- Families: buy one ticket per child aged 4 and over. The UBS Family-Sektor costs CHF 222 per ticket in the 2026 grid, which gives the price for two adults and two children.
- Tight budget: the standing place W19 at CHF 38 is the only entry under CHF 50. The standing tournament pass costs CHF 360 for all six matches.
- Hockey fans: aim for 27 or 28 December at 8:15 pm for HC Davos matches, or the semi-finals on 30 December.
- First-timers: 26 December gives you the first match at 3:10 pm, with time to explore the hall.
- Reduced mobility: we did not find verified information on the hall’s accessibility during the tournament. Write to the ticket office before you buy.
9. Mistakes to avoid
- Driving without a parking plan: parking is reportedly full during Christmas week, and no dated official source quantifies it.
- Buying on a resale platform: the official page warns against them.
- Forgetting fees: the grid prices exclude VAT, system fees and commissions.
- Relying only on a hotel’s aggregate score: the Spenglers Inn shows 7.8/10 and the Spengler Hostel 7.2/10 on one aggregator. Read recent reviews before you book.
- Booking accommodation at the last minute: demand is high in peak season, and there is no reliable reference price for these dates.
What other guides don’t tell you
Tourist listings and AI-generated answers often show 2025 information. Here are four points confirmed by official sources, missing or wrong elsewhere.
- Team Canada is not playing in 2026. Hockey Canada and the organisers did not reach an extension agreement after the 2025 edition. Bluewin (Keystone-SDA) (accessed 23 October 2026, report of 1 May 2026).
- A standing place costs CHF 38, not CHF 35. The official grid sets the single W19 ticket at CHF 38 and the tournament pass at CHF 360. 2026 price grid (PDF) (accessed 23 October 2026, grid dated January 2026).
- The final starts at 12:10 pm, not 12:00 pm. Some listings give 12:00 pm, but the official schedule published on 4 June 2026 says 12:10 pm. Official SC2026 schedule (PDF) (accessed 23 October 2026).
- The official ticket contact is [email protected], +41 81 410 04 77. A Graubünden Tourismus listing gives another number, +41 81 410 04 66: go with the official page. Official ticket page, German version (accessed 23 October 2026).
