The 2027 Adelboden World Cup ski races take place on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 January 2027 on the Chuenisbärgli. The giant slalom is provisionally scheduled for Saturday, the slalom for Sunday. Official tickets range from CHF 45 to CHF 890, and each one is valid for a single day.
Checked on against the official sources cited (the organiser’s ticket shop, the Anreise page, Wikipedia, MeteoNews, diplomatie.gouv.fr).
Adelboden, in the Bernese Oberland, has hosted the men’s alpine skiing World Cup since 1967. The Chuenisbärgli piste, in use since the 1950s, is one of the most demanding on the circuit for the giant slalom. Every year the weekend draws a crowd for the race, the village festival and the presentation of the cowbells to the best racers. This guide covers what you need for the 2027 edition: the schedule, official ticket prices, getting there from Bern and Geneva, the piste, the budget and the paperwork to sort out.
1. Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 January 2027: the schedule

Three days, two races
The race runs on the Chuenisbärgli, above the village of Adelboden. The organiser, Ski-Weltcup Adelboden AG, is calling it the 71st edition, and the regional press confirms the programme. The slalom on Sunday 10 January is confirmed. The giant slalom on Saturday 9 January is still provisional: the split between disciplines rests on the FIS calendar reported by Südostschweiz on 20 October 2026, and it can still change until the International Ski Federation finalises its calendar. Don’t build your plans around a specific discipline without checking the organiser’s page on the day you leave.
On Friday 8 January the village gets going ahead of the weekend. The 2026 edition had entertainment from 5 pm, a public bib draw at 6:30 pm and entertainment until 10:30 pm, according to the programme reported in the press. A side event, « CHUENIS Hautnah », is held that day at CHF 185. The race ticket only gives access on the day printed on it.
The 2027 start times haven’t been published. The best reference is the 2026 edition: the first giant slalom run started around 10:30 am and the second around 1:30 pm, according to the BLS page. Check the exact time on the organiser’s site a few days before you leave.
On the evening of the giant slalom, the first five racers receive a cowbell, made by the Gusset foundry in Uetendorf, near Adelboden. That ritual gives the weekend its popular character, more than the competition alone.
Weekend highlights
- Saturday: giant slalom, two runs, subject to the final calendar
- Sunday: slalom, confirmed by press reports of 14 October 2026
- Friday: village, bib draw and entertainment (2026 programme)
If you want to fill part of the day without watching the race, a day trip from Interlaken up to the Jungfraujoch is sold on Viator. It isn’t linked to the race: it runs through the same Bernese Oberland as Adelboden. The check made on 24 October 2026 shows dates open on 8, 9 and 10 January 2027.
2. 2027 tickets: categories, prices and sales calendar
The prices below come from the organiser’s official ticket shop, in Swiss francs including tax, as shown on 24 October 2026. For a rough euro figure we use a single rate: CHF 1 = €1.07 (quote of 2 October 2026, rounded). A CHF 45 ticket is therefore about €48, and the CHF 890 one about €952.

A few rules apply to every category. Each ticket is valid for one day only. The child rate applies to ages 6 to 15, and the ticket shop says children under 6 go free. The Family Day on Sunday requires at least one adult and one child in the same booking. The Fan Zone ticket doesn’t get you into the Chäla: that spot needs a separate ticket, and the ticket shop says the World Cup village is open from 3 pm.
The Bügellift is one of the new features for 2027: at CHF 320 on Saturday, places aren’t allocated, and online sales opened on 2 September 2026. The grandstand gets 600 extra places, with no change to the site’s total capacity. Check the ticket shop before you buy for the conditions of each category.
Sales are staggered. The Bügellift opened on 2 September 2026, the Family Day on 7 October 2026. The grandstand, the Fan Zone and the Chäla opened on 14 October 2026 at 10:00 am, with a second wave for the Fan Zone and the Chäla on 28 October 2026 at 10:00 am. Sales happen online on the official site. The sources we checked don’t name an official resale partner, so be wary of resale offers.
3. Getting there: train, shuttle and car
Adelboden has no station. The simplest route from Bern or Geneva is the train to Frutigen or Spiez, then the organiser’s shuttle or a local bus to reach the village in about 40 minutes from Frutigen. The table below gives the times we checked. Train times are estimates or third-party data, so confirm them on the day you travel.
| Journey | Indicative time | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Paris – Geneva (TGV Lyria direct) | 3 h 13 | SNCF timetables, checked on 24 October 2026 |
| Geneva – Bern (train) | About 1 h 51 | SNCF Connect (third-party source) |
| Bern – Spiez (train) | About 31 to 32 min | Rome2rio (estimate) |
| Frutigen – Spiez (train) | About 14 min | Rome2rio (estimate) |
| Frutigen – Adelboden (shuttle or bus) | About 40 min | BLS and organiser |
| P+R Reichenbach (parking) | CHF 15 per day and per car | Organiser’s 2027 Anreise page |
Source: the organiser’s Anreise page, checked on 24 October 2026. Train times come from Rome2rio and SNCF Connect.
The organiser’s shuttle leaves on Saturday from 7 am to 1 pm, from P+R Reichenbach and from Frutigen station, for a trip of about 40 minutes. Returns run from 2:30 pm to 11 pm on Saturday, and until 7 pm on Sunday (2027 Anreise page).
Is the shuttle included in the ticket? Confidence is medium. The organiser’s 2027 Anreise page presents it as included in general public tickets, to be confirmed by category. The BLS page for the 2026 edition, however, said regular bus services aren’t covered by the entry ticket. They are probably two separate services: the special race shuttle on one side, scheduled buses on the other. To settle it for your category, read the official ticket shop before you buy.
For the late-night return there are two options. The village bus, or Ortsbus, runs until 11 pm on Saturday and until 6 pm on Sunday (2027 page). The Moonliner M45 night bus is the other option: its special ticket isn’t valid on rail tickets (2027 page). Its timetable and price aren’t included here, as we have no verified source for 2027. For reference, the 2026 edition listed a last train from Frutigen to Spiez at 11 pm (BLS).
From Bern, the whole trip takes about 1 h 30 to 1 h 45 depending on connections. From Geneva, allow about 3 h 20 to 3 h 40 excluding waiting time: about 1 h 51 by train to Bern, then 1 h 30 to 1 h 45 to reach Adelboden. If you’re extending your stay in Bern, our guide to Bern’s Zibelemärit 2026 covers the city and its festive calendar.
By car, park at P+R Reichenbach for CHF 15 per day and take the shuttle from there. Cars are also accepted at Silleren P1 on Saturday, as an alternative (2027 page). No public parking in Adelboden itself is planned on race day. Without a car, the agency Horner Reisen runs a day coach trip on Saturday 9 January 2027, at CHF 49 for an adult and CHF 39 for a child aged 6 to 15. Departures are from Morat, Fribourg, Tavel, Guin or Flamatt depending on the option. The offer includes neither the entry ticket nor a meal: it’s a third-party service, to compare with the official ticket.
4. The Chuenisbärgli, a piste in numbers

Start at 1,730 m, finish at 1,294 m
These figures come from the English Wikipedia entry for the piste, checked on 24 October 2026. They explain why the Chuenisbärgli is often cited as one of the toughest pistes on the circuit for the giant slalom. The maximum gradient reaches 31° (60%), and the average gradient 16.7° (30%).
What makes the piste
- Start at 1,730 m, finish at 1,294 m, for a vertical drop of 436 m
- Average gradient of 16.7° and maximum gradient of 31°
- A steep finishing wall, which the press was already describing at the 2019 edition (Oasport)
The piste has been in use since the 1950s, and the World Cup has been held there since 1967. Wikipedia counts 69 men’s World Cup races at Adelboden. Four years had no race: 1988, 1990, 1993 and 1994. Sources don’t agree on the exact year of the village’s first races, which is why we use the general phrase « since the 1950s ».
On the results side, Stenmark and Odermatt have each won five giant slaloms at Adelboden, according to Wikipedia as checked on 24 October 2026. In 2026, Odermatt won the giant slalom, ahead of Braathen (+0.49 s) and the French skier Léo Anguenot (+0.68 s). The slalom went to Paco Rassat, of France (BLS and results checked on 24 October 2026). These results are a reference point only, as the 2027 season hasn’t been raced yet.
The piste runs on snowmaking. The organiser uses around 20 snow guns, compared with 5 previously, and it takes about 60 cm of snow to prepare the course (plattformj.ch, 31 December 2025). There is no summer snow storage on site. To check whether the course is ready on the day you visit, look at the organiser’s site that same day, as the race depends on snow cover and the conditions of the season.
5. Weather, snow and kit
In January, Adelboden gets an average of about 90 mm of precipitation, with average highs of 3°C and lows of -5°C (MeteoNews, 1991–2020 normals). Valley temperatures don’t tell you much about the Chuenisbärgli, which starts at 1,730 m. Wind, visibility and snow matter more for comfort than the thermometer.
Winters vary a lot. January 2025 was mild (Keystone-SDA, 30 January 2025, via bluewin.ch). In contrast, heavy snowfall was forecast for the race weekend of January 2026 (Bluewin, 7 January 2026), and the race went ahead. Don’t rely on a previous year to plan your clothing.
The main risk is fog. In 2010 the giant slalom was halted by fog: of 66 racers, 59 finished the first run (swissinfo, 9 January 2010). The programme can change because of the weather, sometimes on the day itself. That’s why we suggest checking the organiser’s site on the morning of the race.
For kit, bring the usual winter clothing for a spectator who stays outside for hours: a warm layer, a waterproof jacket, gloves, a hat, and sunglasses or goggles if the sun comes out on the snow. Footwear needs to grip packed snow and walkways.
6. Budget: what to allow for your profile
The budget breaks down into four items: ticket, transport, meals and accommodation. The ticket is the only item for which we have an official 2027 price. The others are built from benchmarks, and we say each time what is sourced and what remains an estimate. The table below links each profile to a ticket category and its price benchmark.
| Profile | Category to look at | Price benchmark | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small budget, first visit | Chäla (standing, separate ticket) | CHF 45 adult on Sunday | Sales waves of 14 and 28 October 2026 |
| Family with children | Family Day (Sunday) | CHF 110 adult, CHF 65 child | At least one adult and one child in the booking |
| Spectator who wants to see the finish up close | Grandstand (standing places) | CHF 130 on Saturday, CHF 80 on Sunday | 600 places added for 2027, total capacity unchanged |
| Hospitality | VIP Lounge or Stangenwald | CHF 890 and 495, or CHF 480 and 270 | Check on the ticket shop what is included |
| Without a car, by coach | Coach day trip (third-party offer) | CHF 49 adult, CHF 39 child, Saturday | Entry ticket and meal not mentioned in the offer |
Source: the organiser’s official ticket shop, checked on 24 October 2026; Horner Reisen excursion offer, checked on 24 October 2026.
For a couple arriving by car, the daily budget covers a standing ticket, parking at CHF 15 a day at P+R Reichenbach, the shuttle if it isn’t included, then a meal on site. No restaurant prices for 2026 or 2027 were published in the sources we checked, so allow a margin rather than a precise figure. Cash is useful at the village stalls, as we haven’t confirmed that every stand takes cards.
For a family, the Sunday Family Day is the easiest format: one booking, with at least one adult and one child, at CHF 110 for an adult and CHF 65 for a child. Saturday costs more and has more categories. The best approach is to focus on one day rather than buy two tickets without knowing where you’ll be on Saturday evening.
On a small budget, the Chäla, at CHF 45 for an adult on Sunday, is the cheapest standing place on the programme. It needs a separate ticket from the Fan Zone: the Fan Zone costs CHF 50 for an adult on Sunday and CHF 75 on Saturday, but that ticket doesn’t get you into the Chäla. Comfort depends on where you stand, not just the price.
7. Staying over: accommodation, ski pass and paperwork
Accommodation for race weekend. We found no dated rate for a night over race weekend in the official sources or the comparison sites checked on 24 October 2026. The comparison sites say Saturdays are the most expensive nights of the week, and the village gets many visitors that weekend. Book early and compare Friday and Saturday nights.
If Adelboden is full or too expensive, the tourist sources cite several alternatives: Frutigen, Kandersteg, Spiez, Reichenbach or Lenk. We have no dated rates for race weekend for these. They are reachable by bus or train, but journey times change depending on where you start, and you’ll need to allow for the morning shuttle.
The ski pass. No 2026/27 pass rate for the Adelboden-Lenk ski area has been published in the sources we checked. The 2025/26 season opened pre-sales on 1 September 2025, with prices falling for early purchases. The race ticket gives access to the event; according to the sources, it doesn’t include a lift pass. Check the ski area’s site on the day you buy.
Paperwork. For French nationals, a national identity card that is valid, or expired for less than five years, is enough for a tourist stay in Switzerland (diplomatie.gouv.fr, updated 15 September 2026). The page still recommends a passport. The European Entry/Exit System (EES) has been rolling out since 12 October 2025: it records fingerprints and a photo at the border, so allow a few extra minutes at the crossing (SEM). If you’re travelling from the UK, check the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) travel advice for Switzerland, as the rules above are the French ones.
Health. The European Health Insurance Card doesn’t cover planned care, repatriation or mountain rescue (service-public.gouv.fr). Switzerland isn’t an EU member, so confirm the exact arrangement for your country before you go. Travel insurance with repatriation and mountain cover is recommended; whether piste skiing is covered depends on the policy.
To compare how another stop of the season is organised, our guide to the Bormio 2026 Ski World Cup covers access and zones, on a different kind of race weekend.
8. What a race day looks like
A well-run day breaks down into four stages. The timeline below follows a Saturday with the organiser’s shuttle. Adjust it if you come by car or by coach.
- Leaving in the late morning. Take the shuttle from P+R Reichenbach or Frutigen station, between 7 am and 1 pm on Saturday. The trip takes about 40 minutes. Allow time for the check at the entrance and the wait for the shuttle.
- Arrival and finding your spot. Find your zone: the grandstand, the Fan Zone or the Chäla along the piste, each with its own ticket. The World Cup village is open from 3 pm to the ticket holders concerned, according to the ticket shop.
- The runs. The start time of the first run in 2027 hasn’t been published. In 2026 it began around 10:30 am, with a second run around 1:30 pm (BLS). Keep that reference point, and don’t be caught out by a change to the programme.
- The return. Shuttles run until 11 pm on Saturday, and the village bus until 11 pm as well. The last night train of the 2026 edition left Frutigen at 11 pm. Don’t stay too long if you need to catch your transport.
A note on food: no 2026 or 2027 food prices were published in the sources we checked. The Weltcup-Spiess skewer, recommended by the organiser, is sold on the festival site according to a 2017 text we couldn’t reconfirm for this edition. For drinks and food brought on site, see the FAQ.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Buying a Saturday ticket for Sunday: it isn’t valid for the other day
- Relying on the shuttle without checking it’s included in your category
- Forgetting the Chäla in your budget, since it needs a separate ticket from the Fan Zone
- Booking accommodation late for Saturday, the most in-demand night
- Going without a passport, although an identity card is enough for French nationals and the official page recommends carrying a passport
What other guides don’t tell you
These points come from official or open sources checked on 24 October 2026. Several guides leave them out or get them wrong.
- The grandstand gets 600 extra places, but the site’s total capacity stays the same. (Plattform J, article of 14 October 2026, checked on 24 October 2026).
- A ticket is valid for one day only. A Saturday ticket doesn’t give access to Sunday, and vice versa (official ticket shop, checked on 24 October 2026).
- The Fan Zone and the Chäla have two sales waves, on 14 and 28 October 2026 at 10:00 am. The Chäla needs a separate ticket from the Fan Zone (official ticket shop, checked on 24 October 2026).
- The organiser’s shuttle leaves from P+R Reichenbach and Frutigen, with published time slots. Departures from 7 am to 1 pm on Saturday, returns from 2:30 pm to 11 pm (Anreise page of the organiser, checked on 24 October 2026). Whether it is included in the ticket still needs confirming by category.
- An identity card is enough for a French tourist staying in Switzerland, but a passport is recommended. A passport isn’t required for this stay (diplomatie.gouv.fr, updated 15 September 2026, checked on 24 October 2026).
- The European Health Insurance Card doesn’t cover planned care, repatriation or mountain rescue. For Switzerland, check the arrangement on ameli.fr before you go (service-public.gouv.fr, checked on 24 October 2026).
Practical info for planning your trip
Useful from arrival in Geneva, Zurich or Bern, if your European mobile plan doesn’t cover Switzerland. Plans are chosen by duration and data volume.

When is the 2027 Adelboden World Cup ski race?
The races take place on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 January 2027 on the Chuenisbärgli, in Adelboden. The giant slalom is provisionally scheduled for Saturday, according to the FIS calendar reported by the Swiss press. The slalom is confirmed for Sunday 10 January. The 2027 start times haven’t been published: in 2026 the first run started around 10:30 am (BLS, 2026 event page, checked on 24 October 2026).
How much does a ticket for the 2027 Adelboden World Cup cost?
Official prices range from CHF 45, the Chäla standing area on Sunday for an adult, to CHF 890, the VIP Lounge on Saturday. Standing places in the grandstand cost CHF 130 on Saturday and CHF 80 on Sunday. Fan Zone standing tickets cost CHF 75 for an adult on Saturday and CHF 50 on Sunday. Children’s rates are lower for ages 6 to 15. The full breakdown is in the table in section 2, checked on 24 October 2026.
Is a Saturday ticket valid on Sunday?
No. Each ticket is valid only for the day printed on it. A ticket for Saturday 9 January doesn’t give access to Sunday 10 January, and vice versa. If you want to attend both days, you need two tickets. The Family Day, which is Sunday only, and the CHUENIS Night, which is Saturday only, follow the same rule. Check the entry date on your ticket before you leave the ticket shop.
Is the shuttle included in the ticket?
Confidence is medium. The organiser’s 2027 Anreise page presents the shuttle as included in general public tickets, to be confirmed for each category. The 2026 BLS page said regular bus services aren’t covered by the entry ticket, so these are probably a different service. Check the category you choose on the official ticket shop. The organiser’s shuttle leaves from P+R Reichenbach and Frutigen on Saturday, from 7 am to 1 pm, with returns until 11 pm (2027 Anreise page, checked on 24 October 2026).
How do you get to Adelboden from Bern or Geneva?
From Bern, take the train to Spiez or Frutigen, then the shuttle or bus to Adelboden, about 40 minutes from Frutigen. The total trip takes about 1 h 30 to 1 h 45 depending on connections. From Geneva, allow about 3 h 20 to 3 h 40 in total excluding waiting time: about 1 h 51 by train to Bern (SNCF Connect, third-party source), then 1 h 30 to 1 h 45 to reach Adelboden. Train times are estimates, so confirm them on the day you travel.
Can you drive there, and where do you park?
Yes: P+R Reichenbach (CHF 15 per day per vehicle) with the shuttle to Adelboden, or Silleren P1 on Saturday according to the 2027 page. No public parking in Adelboden itself is planned on race day. Road closure dates for 2027 haven’t been published: past notices concerned the Bodenstrasse and the Dorfstrasse on race days (Adelboden municipality notices, 2017 to 2023, checked on 24 October 2026).
Should you book accommodation early?
Yes: Saturday of race weekend is the most in-demand night. We found no dated rate for a night that weekend in the official sources or the comparison sites checked on 24 October 2026, so we don’t give an amount. Frutigen, Kandersteg, Spiez or Lenk are the most cited alternatives, as long as you allow for the morning trip to the shuttle.
Is a ski pass included in the race ticket?
The ticket gives access to the event, and the sources we checked don’t mention a lift pass. No 2026/27 pass rate for the Adelboden-Lenk ski area has been published, so we don’t give a price. The 2025/26 season opened pre-sales on 1 September 2025, with prices falling for early purchases (tourist office announcement).
Can you bring food or drinks onto the site?
A 2019 source we checked says drinks can’t be brought onto the site, but we couldn’t identify where that rule comes from. We haven’t found any published rule for 2027 on drinks or food. Ask the organiser before you go, and plan to eat on site if needed.
Can you enter Switzerland with an identity card?
Yes, for a tourist stay, for French nationals, according to the French foreign ministry page, updated 15 September 2026. The card must be valid or have expired less than five years ago. The same page still recommends a passport, which remains the safest document. The European Entry/Exit System, rolling out since 12 October 2025, adds a few minutes at the border (SEM and diplomatie.gouv.fr, checked on 24 October 2026). If you’re travelling from the UK, check the FCDO travel advice for Switzerland, since the rules above are the French ones.
What happens in fog or bad weather?
The race can be changed, delayed or stopped. In 2010 the giant slalom was halted by fog after the first run, with 59 of 66 racers finishing it (swissinfo, 9 January 2010). Four years had no race: 1988, 1990, 1993 and 1994 (English Wikipedia). The programme can change on the day, so check the organiser’s site on the morning of the race and keep a fallback plan for your day.
Are dogs, bags and access for people with reduced mobility allowed?
We found no published rule on these three points, dogs, bags or access for people with reduced mobility, in the pages checked on 24 October 2026. Ask the organiser directly through the ticket shop before you go, and don’t rely on last year’s rules to plan your day.
