Modernism Week 2027 runs in Palm Springs from February 11 to 21, 2027, but its architecture tours are not sold on Viator. On Viator, eight experiences have open dates in that window, from $139 to $200 per adult (based on 2 travelers). For design, start with the golf cart.

Prices and availability checked on on the Viator partner API; ratings as of October 24, 2026.

When you think of Palm Springs, you think of sun, swimming pools and the mountains that frame the city. Yet much of its identity comes from something else: houses built in the 1950s and 1960s by architects who turned this desert city into a testing ground for midcentury design. Every year, Modernism Week brings that heritage together over eleven days of tours and houses opened to the public. The 2027 edition runs from February 11 to 21, 2027.

I put together a selection of eight experiences you can book on Viator for this window. One thing to know upfront, so you are not caught off guard: the festival’s architecture tours are not on Viator. They are booked on the Modernism Week website, and I describe them in the context section so you know what to compare. Midcentury design is not only about facades. It also shows in the city and its landscape, which is why the list mixes celebrity-neighborhood tours with desert excursions.

The tour closest to the design theme in our survey, a bike ride through modernist architecture and history, had no published calendar for February 2027 at the October 24 survey. It is therefore not listed here. If you only have one slot, I recommend the golf cart tour of celebrity homes: it runs on all eleven days, lasts two hours and leaves room in a festival day. Why Palm Springs midcentury design: the Pixidia angle

Midcentury modern refers to a style of architecture, interior design, product design and graphic design from the middle of the 20th century (Wikidata). In Palm Springs it has proper names. William Krisel (1924-2017) partnered with Dan Palmer in the firm Palmer & Krisel. According to his Wikipedia page, their 1950s subdivisions helped nearly double the city’s surface area. Albert Frey is also among the six architects presented by the Mod Squad tours, which never take more than five people at a time.

Modernism Week began in 2006 as a loosely organized volunteer committee, and the Palm Springs Art Museum was one of the groups involved from the start, according to an oral history published by Palm Springs Life. The organization now presents itself as a nonprofit, described on Wikidata as a 501(c)(3) organization. The February 2026 edition included a 1957 house, The Marquee at Twin Palms, and fifteen neighborhood tours in the Coachella Valley.

The festival sells its architecture tours on its own website, with tickets for scheduled tours from October 15, 2026 to May 29, 2027. They are guided, in small groups, aboard a 22-seat air-conditioned minibus. There is no microphone or headset, and each tour begins with an introduction to the city’s history. The official site also announces that tickets for the February 2027 festival go on sale November 1, 2026 at noon, Pacific time. That date comes only from this site, so check it on modernismweek.com before you buy.

Here is what the list leaves out. The festival’s architecture tours and those of local operators are not in the Viator survey. Mod Squad Tours limits its groups to five people and offers three 90-minute tours, one focused on the outside of the work of six architects and one on the inside of three houses. The Modern Tour offers private or small-group tours of about two hours, with departures at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and private access to two residences that are usually closed to the public. These are serious options, but you book them elsewhere, and their 2027 calendar is not covered here.

Finally, the Coachella Valley is only a name for the region here. It is an arid valley in southern California, in the Colorado Desert, whose main cities are Indio, Palm Springs and Palm Desert. The music festival that shares the name has nothing to do with this guide. The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, a federally recognized tribe, is linked to the Indian Canyons south of Palm Springs, according to Visit Palm Springs. The canyons are not about design, but they offer a contrast with the houses: the landscape that existed before the city.

The 8 experiences to book in Palm Springs during Modernism Week

Golf cart tour in Palm Springs

1. Celebrity homes by golf cart

Rating 4.84 (339 reviews) 2 h $159 per adult (based on 2 travelers) Instant confirmation Available 11 days out of 11 in February 2027

If you only keep one experience to feel the design of Palm Springs, make it this one. The golf cart glides slowly through Old Las Palmas, alongside the city’s golden-age houses, and the guide has you look up at the facades rather than at the shop windows. It is the right first look at midcentury style, especially if you only have two hours and want to keep the rest of the day for the neighborhoods or the festival. The meeting point is the corner of Museum Way and S Belardo Rd, near a « snappy » basket. The trap to avoid: counting on going inside a house. The tour is by golf cart along the golden-age houses of Old Las Palmas, and the listing does not say whether any entry is included, so ask the operator.

  • Two hours in Old Las Palmas
  • Bottled water and welcome gift included
  • Tip not included

2. Celebrity neighborhoods by bike

Rating 4.89 (161 reviews) 3 h $159 per adult (based on 2 travelers) Instant confirmation Available 7 days out of 11 in February 2027

Three hours of cycling through celebrity neighborhoods and homes. The ride starts at the Palm Springs Big Wheel shop, in the back parking lot. You get snacks and water during the tour, and if you choose the e-bike option, the bike and helmets are provided. This listing suits a couple or two friends who are comfortable riding in town. The trap to avoid: not every date is open. In the window, February 13, 14, 20 and 21 are sold out, so only February 11, 12 and 15 to 19 are open, seven days out of eleven. Check your date before you plan the rest of your schedule.

3. The six-seat golf cart for a group

Rating 4.95 (139 reviews) 3 h $195 per adult (based on 2 travelers) Available 7 days out of 11 in February 2027

This listing is designed for a group. The golf cart seats six passengers, with a guide, and the description includes appetizers and alcoholic drinks. The meeting point is the back parking lot behind Sammy G’s Tuscan Grill. Design comes up in passing, through the neighborhoods and houses you drive past, rather than as an architecture class. The trap to avoid: the price is quoted for two adults, while the cart is meant for six. The price per person can change with group size, so ask for the rate for your group. Within the window, February 14, 15, 16 and 21 have no departures. Confirmation is not instant on this listing, so leave a margin before you block the rest of your days.

4. The Indian Canyons by e-bike

Rating 4.99 (227 reviews) 3 h 30 $169 per adult (based on 2 travelers) Instant confirmation Available 11 days out of 11 in February 2027

This is the highest rating in our survey, and the listing most useful for understanding what the desert offered before the houses. The e-bike takes you up the Indian Canyons, south of Palm Springs, with a view over the Coachella Valley. Fees, taxes and the e-bike are included. The listing sets a minimum age of 12 and requires at least two people, so check this rule before you book with a child. The meeting point is not detailed in the listing, so confirm it when you book. The trap to avoid: don’t count on a pickup downtown, since the listing gives no address. Bring walking shoes if you want to walk part of the route.

5. The downhill bike ride along the San Andreas Fault

Rating 4.91 (272 reviews) 4 h $169 per adult (based on 2 travelers) Instant confirmation Available 11 days out of 11 in February 2027

This is the longest experience in our survey, four hours, and the most athletic. The descent follows a paved road along the San Andreas Fault, in an area protected by the federal government, with wide views over the Colorado Desert. The bike and the pilot or guide are included. This listing is for experienced cyclists who want to see a geological landscape in motion, not just ride through a town. The trap to avoid is a group condition: the listing sets a minimum number of participants and allows cancellation if that number is not reached, so keep a backup plan for the day. The meeting point is the large parking lot opposite the store in Palm Desert, where there are toilets.

6. The jeep to Metate Ranch

Rating 4.89 (797 reviews) 3 h $175 per adult (based on 2 travelers) Available 11 days out of 11 in February 2027

This is the most reviewed listing in our survey, with 797 reviews, and it takes you to a site that the listing presents as reachable only through this operator: the Metate Ranch, in the heart of the San Andreas Fault area. The jeep ride lasts three hours with a guide, and water and land-use fees are included. It is not a tour of houses, but it shows the geological landscape that forms the backdrop of the desert cities. The trap to avoid: the title suggests a departure from Palm Desert, while the meeting point given is the Metate Ranch parking lot, so arrive ten minutes before departure. Check the exact location in your confirmation and plan travel time from your lodging. Confirmation is not instant on this listing.

  • Three hours with guide, water and land-use fees included

7. The covered wagon and barbecue dinner

Rating 4.88 (207 reviews) 3 h $139 per adult (based on 2 travelers) Instant confirmation Available 5 days out of 11 in February 2027

This is the least expensive option in our survey, and the only one that goes beyond the tour format. A covered wagon, pulled by mules, crosses the desert from Palm Desert to a barbecue dinner, with entertainment included. It is not design in the strict sense, but it is a useful counterpoint for travelers who want an evening in the desert after days of city visits. The meeting point is at the end of exit 10 of the highway, on Washington Street, then along the desert road to the upper parking lot. The trap to avoid: only five dates out of eleven are open in the window, February 11, 13, 17, 18 and 20. February 12 and 19 are sold out, and February 14, 15, 16 and 21 have no departures. Check the exact date before promising a specific day to your group.

8. Stargazing in Joshua Tree

Rating 4.90 (186 reviews) 2 h $200 per adult (based on 2 travelers) Instant confirmation Available 10 days out of 11 in February 2027

This listing is not about architecture, and that is its appeal: it ends the week with the sky, at a site with no mobile network and no toilets. An astronomer leads the stargazing, with laser pointers to find constellations, planets and north, and hot drinks are provided. It is the most expensive experience per person in our survey, and it requires some preparation. The site is remote, and transport is not included: detailed instructions come with the booking. The trap to avoid: counting the drive in your evening schedule. Open dates cover the whole window except February 19.

Practical tips on site

Start with the date. February 11, the first day of the window, is open for all eight experiences in the survey. On February 19, the Joshua Tree stargazing is no longer open, and the covered wagon offers only five dates out of eleven. If your stay is fixed in advance, check each listing on your exact date before comparing prices: availability changes faster than the rate.

Check the confirmations. Two experiences are not instant-confirmation: the six-seat golf cart and the jeep on the San Andreas Fault. For those, leave a margin in your schedule rather than booking another activity the same day.

Don’t underestimate travel time. The covered wagon departs from Palm Desert, via exit 10 of the highway, and the jeep departs from the Metate Ranch parking lot. The Joshua Tree stargazing does not include transport, and the site has no mobile network or toilets: instructions come with the booking. The drive time from downtown Palm Springs is not given here. Check it on a map before you book, and add the margin for the return at night.

Plan for tips separately. Tips are not included in five experiences: the downtown golf cart, the celebrity bike tour, the Indian Canyons, the San Andreas downhill and the jeep. Set a budget for them, as you would at a restaurant. The other listings don’t specify, so ask the operator if you are not sure.

Respect the age and group conditions. The Indian Canyons set a minimum age of 12 and require at least two people. The downhill bike ride depends on a minimum number of participants and may be cancelled if that minimum is not reached. The six-seat golf cart is designed for a group, but the survey covers only two adults, so ask for the actual rate for your group before comparing.

Modernism Week is booked separately. Tickets for the architecture tours and the festival are sold on the festival’s website, and the announced sale dates should be checked on modernismweek.com. The two combine well: a morning of neighborhood tours, then an excursion in the afternoon or evening.

Adjust the list to your profile. For a first trip for two, the golf cart and the celebrity bike tour give an overview of the houses in two half-days. On a small budget, the covered wagon is the cheapest at $139 per adult, but only if one of the five open dates works for you. For experienced cyclists, the San Andreas downhill is the longest experience, at four hours. For a family with a child, check the 12-year minimum age before choosing the e-bike hike. For a group of six, the six-seat golf cart is the only listing designed for that.

Accessibility. The survey gives no information on the accessibility of these listings, or on travelers with reduced mobility. Ask the operator before booking a walking, cycling or jeep experience, and don’t count on an indication that is not in the listing.

Frequently asked questions

What are the dates of Modernism Week 2027?

The main festival runs from February 11 to 21, 2027, in Palm Springs, California, according to the official site and a local press report from July 2026. Festival tickets are sold on modernismweek.com. The site announces that tickets go on sale November 1, 2026 at noon, Pacific time: check this date before relying on it. The scheduled architecture tours run from October 15, 2026 to May 29, 2027.

Can you book Modernism Week tours on Viator?

No, not at the time of the survey. The festival’s architecture tours are sold directly by Modernism Week, in small groups, in a 22-seat air-conditioned minibus, with no microphone or headset. On Viator, the closest tours to the topic are the celebrity homes golf cart tour and the celebrity neighborhoods bike tour.

Which experience has the best rating?

Among the eight, the highest rating goes to the Indian Canyons e-bike tour: 4.99 out of 5 from 227 reviews. The tour lasts 3 hours 30, and the listing sets a minimum age of 12. If your main goal is design, the golf cart tour is the most directly linked to the houses, with 4.84 out of 5 from 339 reviews.

What is the cheapest option?

The covered wagon with barbecue dinner is $139 per adult for two travelers, but it is open only five days out of eleven. For an option open on all eleven dates, the golf cart tour is $159 per adult, like the celebrity bike tour, which is open only seven days out of eleven.

Why is the best-rated design bike ride not on the list?

Because at the October 24, 2026 survey it had no published calendar for February 2027. Its last known season ends December 31, 2026, despite a rating of 4.98 from 403 reviews. It is therefore excluded from this edition. If it opens during the festival window, it could replace one of the listings, and the article will be updated.

Are the prices in this article fixed?

No. The amounts come from the Viator partner API check of October 25, 2026, for two adult travelers, over the window from February 11 to 21, 2027. They can change, as can options, age limits and open dates. The price shown when you book is the one that counts, and it depends on your group.
