On December 31, 2026, eight Viator experiences in New York are still bookable around Times Square and the Hudson, from €35.42 to €679.42 per person. Only two have a slot after 7 p.m.: the escape game, open until 11:20 p.m., and the SUV with a flexible start time. The rest is bookable between the morning and the late afternoon.

Checked on on the Viator partner API (prices, ratings, availability).

December 31 is unlike any other night in New York, and that is exactly what makes it hard to book. The question I asked myself while preparing this guide is simple: what can you book for that day without counting on a spot at the foot of the ball? On the Viator partner API, checked on October 25, 2026, eight experiences are still open on December 31 in the Times Square and Hudson area. They range from the Grand Central tour, at €35.42 per person, to the private SUV, at €679.42 per traveler.

The selection was strict. Several experiences in the search results are sold out or closed on December 31, and I left them out. Only two have a slot after 7 p.m.: the escape game in Times Square, whose last slot starts at 11:20 p.m., and the private SUV with a flexible start time. The rest of the selection runs from the morning to the late afternoon. That is where I suggest you build your December 31, with an early booking, rather than counting on an evening out on the spot.

A word on what this guide does not do. It does not get you a spot for the countdown, and I found no official source confirming the access conditions for Times Square in 2026. The pages I checked refer to 2024 or 2025. I am saying this first, so that you do not book an experience on a promise it cannot keep. Every price, rating and availability below comes from the October 25, 2026 check and may change.

Why New Year’s Eve in New York needs planning from the afternoon

New York makes December 31 a night apart, and Times Square is its symbol. Yet the Times Square Alliance event page, checked on October 25, 2026, still shows a 2024 date and 2025 text. It gives no viewing rules, no safety conditions and no ticketing for the 2026 celebration. So I do not repeat any claim about access to the square that night, because that would mean inventing information I do not have. What I can do is show you what can be booked, and at what time.

This caution changes how the day is built. Each product in the selection has a precise time window on December 31: some end around 4 p.m., others around 7 p.m., and only the escape game and the SUV run after 7 p.m. The availability check covers three dates, December 30, December 31 and January 1, and December 31 is the one that counts. December 30 is only there to check neighboring dates: it is not the New Year’s Eve date, and I do not use it to set opening times.

The places around Central Park and Hudson Yards have limits too. The Central Park Conservancy homepage gives no opening hours or closing times for December 31. The official page for The Edge, at Hudson Yards, returned a 404 error on the day I checked, so I cannot say what time the platform opens that day. For these places, ask the operator at the time of booking, not a third-party site.

December 31 also depends on how many spots there are. The Hell’s Kitchen food tour has one slot and eight places in the check, and the Hudson cruise has just one departure that day. In these conditions, early booking is the only lever that really depends on you.

A word on method. Prices are those of the Viator partner API for two adults, taken shortly after midnight on October 25, 2026. When a fare is set per traveler rather than per adult, I flag it in the table and in each card. I used no price from a third-party site, and I kept only products with availability checked for December 31. Ratings and review counts come from the same source.

Prices and availability checked on the Viator partner API on October 25, 2026 for December 31, 2026; they may change. The private SUV fare is a per-traveler fare: €1,358.85 for two travelers, or €679.42 per person. Free cancellation: full refund up to 24 hours before departure, as stated on the listing.

By profile, my choice comes down to a few lines. On a small budget, the Grand Central tour, at €35.42 per person, is the most accessible. For an evening out, the escape game is the only simple option to schedule. For a group that wants a day with nothing to organize, the SUV, provided you accept its fare. For food lovers, the lunchtime food tour. And for a view from above, the helicopter, provided you take its manual confirmation seriously.

The 8 experiences to book for December 31 in New York

1. Escape game in Times Square, last slot at 11:20 p.m.

Rating 4.99 (198 reviews) 75 min €42.68 per adult (based on 2 travelers) Instant confirmation Open on December 31

Along with the SUV, this is one of the two options with a slot after 7 p.m. on the 31st. The first slot checked opens at 9:30 a.m., and the last one starts at 11:20 p.m. The game lasts a fixed 75 minutes, so the last slot ends after midnight. The ticket can be mobile or paper. The meeting point is at the Brill Building, next to a CVS, in Times Square itself, and the group is capped at eight people. I put it first because it combines the best rating on the list, 4.99 from 198 reviews, instant confirmation and a night-time slot. The trap to avoid: the supplier’s title says 60 minutes, but the duration checked is 75. And on January 1, it is closed: do not plan it for the next day.

  • Last start at 11:20 p.m. on December 31
  • One activity per booking, mobile or paper ticket
  • Free cancellation stated on the listing

2. Helicopter flight over Manhattan, late afternoon

Rating 4.75 (1364 reviews) 12 to 15 min of flight €246.16 per adult (based on 2 travelers) Manual confirmation Open on December 31

It is the most expensive flight on the list after the SUV, and the shortest: between 12 and 15 minutes in the air, with live commentary on board. Departure is from the Downtown Manhattan Heliport, at 6 East River Piers, on the East River. I place it on the edge of the area: the departure point is outside the Times Square area, and the flyover of Times Square and Central Park is only a statement by the supplier. The last departure on the 31st is listed at 5 p.m., so this is a late-afternoon flight, not a night one. The booking is confirmed by hand and closes four hours before departure. Manual confirmation makes it fragile for a fixed date, and the flight can be cancelled in bad weather. With 1,364 reviews, the rating holds at 4.75. If you want a view from above, it is the only aerial option in the list.

  • Manual confirmation, booking closes four hours before departure
  • Last departure listed at 5 p.m. on December 31

3. Private pedicab along Central Park

Rating 4.97 (8680 reviews) 60 to 180 min, variable length €62.67 per adult (based on 2 travelers) Instant confirmation Private tour Open on December 31

It is a private tour, with an expert guide, aboard a pedicab. The length varies between 60 and 180 minutes, and the December 31 check shows 69 slots, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., the widest range in the selection for an edge-of-the-area activity. The meeting point is on Sixth Avenue, between 57th and 58th Streets, opposite a Starbucks. So you are at the edge of the park, not inside it, and that is why I place it on the edge of the area. What matters for New Year’s Eve: the start can be set for late afternoon, with no transport to organize. The 4.97 rating rests on 8,680 reviews, the highest volume in the selection, which is reassuring about the consistency of the service.

  • Private tour, one group only, expert guide
  • 69 slots checked on December 31, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

4. Private SUV with hotel pickup, flexible start time

Rating 4.96 (472 reviews) 4 to 6 h, variable length €679.42 per traveler (based on 2 travelers) Instant confirmation Private tour Open on December 31

This is the choice for a group that wants a day with nothing to organize, and the only product on the list whose start time stays flexible on the 31st. Allow four to six hours, in a luxury vehicle or a Mercedes Sprinter, with a separate professional driver and an itinerary built from the hotel. The fare is shown for two travelers: €1,358.85 in total, or €679.42 per traveler. It is not an adult fare, so do not compare it with the other cards without noting that. I recommend it for a couple who wants an afternoon or evening without public transport, or for a small group that prefers a tailored program. When booking, ask for the exact pickup time, which is not set in advance.

5. Private Hudson Yards tour, with optional The Edge upgrade

Rating 4.83 (497 reviews) 120 to 180 min, variable length €154.41 per adult (based on 2 travelers) Instant confirmation Private tour Open on December 31

A private visit of two to three hours around The Vessel, the High Line and the Hudson Yards towers, with a guide. The December 31 check shows slots from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and none in the evening. The meeting point is in front of The Vessel, reachable by subway on the 7 line, at the 34th Street-Hudson Yards station. The neighborhood sits on the Hudson side, west of Midtown, away from the heart of Times Square. The Edge, the platform overhanging the city, is an optional upgrade that is not included in the fare shown. I could not check its hours for the 31st, because the official page was unreachable on the date of the check: do not add it to your plan until you have confirmed it. The booking must be made at least 48 hours before departure: for a morning slot on the 31st, that means booking by December 29 at the latest.

  • Slots checked on December 31, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

6. Hell’s Kitchen food tour, one slot at noon

Rating 4.90 (559 reviews) 150 min €126.26 per adult (based on 2 travelers) Instant confirmation Open on December 31

A two-and-a-half-hour walking tour, with a local guide and tastings in Hell’s Kitchen, the neighborhood next to Times Square. On December 31 there is only one slot, at noon, with eight places left in the check: the decision has to be made early. This is not an evening option, and the listing provides no late-day departure. The meeting point is a specific restaurant, Gyu-Kaku, on West 44th Street, between Eighth and Ninth Avenues. Be careful: this chain has a second location in New York, and the supplier text warns against the one in the East Village. Check the address on your confirmation before you go. With 559 reviews and a 4.90 rating, it is a solid listing for a group that likes to eat. If you want the same area with a walk in Central Park, the bonus experience in the practical section leaves at the same time.

7. Architecture cruise on the Hudson, single departure at 9:45 a.m.

Rating 4.84 (1570 reviews) 165 min €109.14 per adult (based on 2 travelers) Manual confirmation Open on December 31

A 2 hour 45 minute cruise, narrated by a member of the American Institute of Architects, in New York. It is the only card that speaks about architecture from the water, with a professional’s view rather than a street guide’s. On December 31 there is only one departure checked, at 9:45 a.m., from Chelsea Piers, at Pier 62. No afternoon departure is offered on this product that day. The booking is confirmed by hand, so book early. A drink is offered on board. The ticketing is by Classic Harbor Line: do not confuse it with the Circle Line New Year’s cruise, which is run by another operator. Check the pier on your confirmation. With 1,570 reviews, the rating holds at 4.84.

8. Secrets of Grand Central, indoors

Rating 4.86 (2044 reviews) 90 min €35.42 per adult (based on 2 travelers) Instant confirmation Open on December 31

Allow 90 minutes on foot inside the Grand Central Terminal hall, guided by a New Yorker who provides earpieces. It is the most affordable product in the selection, at €35.42 per person for two adults. On December 31, the checked departures are at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The meeting point is in the main hall, in front of track 29, where the guide holds an Untapped New York sign. The tour takes place indoors: that is also the fallback I recommend if the weather turns. The site is in East Midtown, about 15 minutes on foot from Times Square, which is why I place it on the edge of the area. With 2,044 reviews and a 4.86 rating, the listing is solid, and the 2 p.m. slot leaves time to get back and get ready for the evening.

  • Departures checked on December 31 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
  • New Yorker guide, earpieces provided
  • Indoor tour, useful in bad weather

Practical tips on site

A possible plan for the 31st

The checked slots allow a simple sequence. In the morning, the 9:45 a.m. cruise: it lasts 165 minutes and leaves only once that day. After lunch, the Grand Central tour at 2 p.m., which lasts 90 minutes. In the late afternoon, the escape game, in an evening slot, with the last start at 11:20 p.m. Between two bookings, allow a margin for travel, which may take longer than usual on New Year’s Eve. This sequence only works if the cruise is not moved.

Bookings: manual confirmation and deadlines

Two products are not confirmed right away: the helicopter, with a booking cutoff four hours before departure, and the architecture cruise, with a single departure on the 31st. For Hudson Yards, the booking must be made at least 48 hours before departure, with no manual confirmation. The other listings confirm instantly, but their places are limited: the food tour has one slot and eight places in the check. So do not leave these bookings to the last minute.

What I could not verify

Three points remain open and must be confirmed before you go. The first is access to Times Square on the evening of the 31st: the official page contains no information for 2026. The second is The Edge option at Hudson Yards, whose official page was not reachable on the date of the check. The third is Central Park: no December 31 hours appear on the Conservancy’s site. Check each place’s official channels as the date approaches, and do not rely on an article from last year.

Budget for two adults

The lowest fare in the selection is the Grand Central tour, at €70.84 for two. The highest is the private SUV, at €1,358.85 for two travelers. In between, the escape game costs €85.36, the pedicab €125.34, the food tour €252.52, the cruise €218.28 and Hudson Yards €308.82. A full day, with the morning cruise, Grand Central at 2 p.m. and the escape game in the evening, comes to €374.48 for two, excluding meals, transport and tips. These totals are those checked on October 25, 2026; they include no meals, transport or tips.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Counting on the escape game on January 1: it is closed that day.
  • Booking the helicopter at the last minute: confirmation is manual, the cutoff falls four hours before departure, and the flight can be cancelled in bad weather.
  • Confusing the architecture cruise with the Circle Line New Year’s cruise, which is run by a different operator.
  • Taking the SUV fare for an adult fare: it is a per-traveler fare, €679.42 per person for two.
  • Forgetting the 48-hour deadline for Hudson Yards, which moves the booking cutoff earlier.

Variations by profile

For a small budget, the Grand Central tour and the escape game offer the best value for money: €156.20 for two (€70.84 and €85.36), with an evening possible. For a couple who wants an evening out, the escape game first and, if the budget allows, the SUV with a flexible start time. For a small group that wants a day with nothing to organize, the SUV remains the natural choice. For families, I did not find an age rule for each product: check each listing before booking. For a first visit to New York, the morning cruise is done from the water, with commentary from a member of the American Institute of Architects.

January 1

The next day, the selection narrows. The escape game is closed that day, and the noon food tour is full. The check of October 25, 2026 still shows slots for Grand Central at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., for the pedicab from 8 a.m., for Hudson Yards from 9 a.m., for the helicopter from 10 a.m., and for the SUV with a flexible start time. Confirm them before you block out a full day.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an official New Year’s Eve program in Times Square for 2026?

I did not find a confirmed program for 2026 on the date of the check. The Times Square Alliance event page still shows a 2024 date and 2025 text, and it says nothing about viewing conditions. Before you build your evening around a time or an access point, check the official channels of the city and the Alliance as December 31 approaches. The experiences on this page have availability checked for the 31st, but none of them depends on an official program.

Can you see the countdown from one of these experiences?

None of the eight listings promises it. No listing guarantees a view of the square or the ball. The helicopter flight mentions a flyover of Times Square, but that is the supplier’s statement, and its last departure is at 5 p.m. If the countdown is your goal, look for an offer that guarantees it explicitly, and read its terms. This guide does not compare those offers, because I did not check them with the same method as the eight experiences shown here.

Which experience should you choose for an evening on the 31st?

Only two options have a slot after 7 p.m. in my checks: the Times Square escape game, whose last slot starts at 11:20 p.m., and the private SUV with a flexible start time. The first is the easiest to schedule, at €42.68 per person. The second requires a bigger budget, €679.42 per traveler. For the rest, I recommend the afternoon, with an early booking.

How much does the private SUV cost for two people?

The fare checked is €1,358.85 in total for two travelers, or €679.42 per person. It is a per-traveler fare, not an adult fare, and it may change with the number of people. The tour lasts between four and six hours, with hotel pickup, a luxury vehicle or a Mercedes Sprinter, and a separate professional driver. Free cancellation is stated on the listing, and confirmation is instant.

Should you book early?

Yes. The Hell’s Kitchen food tour has only one slot on the 31st, at noon, with eight places in the check. The architecture cruise has a single departure, at 9:45 a.m., and its booking is confirmed by hand. The helicopter also requires manual confirmation, with a cutoff four hours before departure. For Hudson Yards, book at least 48 hours ahead. The other listings confirm instantly.

What is still open on January 1?

The escape game is closed that day, and the noon food tour is full. The other products keep slots checked on October 25, and their times appear in the section « January 1 »: they may change, so confirm them before booking a full day.

What is the difference between the architecture cruise and the Circle Line cruise?

They are two separate products. The cruise in this selection, under Classic Harbor Line ticketing, leaves from Chelsea Piers, at Pier 62; it lasts 2 hours 45 minutes and departs on the 31st only at 9:45 a.m. The Circle Line New Year’s cruise is an offer from another operator. This guide does not compare the two offers: check the boarding point on the listing before you pay, so you do not board at the wrong pier.
