The Düsseldorf Christmas Market 2026 runs from 19 November to 30 December 2026, 42 days in all. It opens from 11 am to 8 pm Sunday to Thursday, and until 9 pm on Friday and Saturday. Entry is free, and it closes on Sunday 22 November and on 25 December.
Checked on against the official sources cited (Visit Düsseldorf, Eurostar, Deutsche Bahn).
The Düsseldorf Christmas market isn’t just one square. According to festivalsindeutschland, seven themed markets stretch between the Rhine, the old town and the Königsallee. This page gathers the dates checked day by day, the prices published for 2026 and those still to be confirmed, how to get there from Paris and Cologne, then a plan for one day. Anything the organisers haven’t announced officially is flagged as such.
1. Dates, hours and closed days
The market runs from Thursday 19 November to Wednesday 30 December 2026. Visit Düsseldorf, the city’s tourism office, sets out this frame on its official event page. The calendar isn’t continuous: two closed days and a shorter Christmas Eve change how you organise a stay.
Hours are the same for all the central markets, with one nuance: some stallholders may stay open until 10 pm. On Sunday 29 November the city-centre shops also open, from 1 pm to 6 pm, which makes this date a good one to combine shopping with the market.
| Date | Hours | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Thursday 19 November | 11 am to 8 pm | First official day |
| Sunday to Thursday (except special dates) | 11 am to 8 pm | Standard hours, some stallholders until 10 pm |
| Friday and Saturday (except special dates) | 11 am to 9 pm | Extended weekend hours |
| Sunday 22 November | Closed | Totensonntag (Remembrance Sunday) |
| Sunday 29 November | 11 am to 8 pm | Shopping Sunday: shops open 1 pm to 6 pm |
| Thursday 24 December | 11 am to 3 pm | Christmas Eve, shorter hours |
| Friday 25 December | Closed | Christmas Day |
| Saturday 26 December | 2 pm to 9 pm | Second day of Christmas |
| Wednesday 30 December | 11 am to 8 pm | Last day of the period |

2. Altstadt and Rathaus: the heart of the market

Altstadt-Markt and Handwerker-Markt
The old town stalls sell regional products: liqueurs, hot chestnuts, caramelised almonds from Gagliardi, decorations. According to a Visit Düsseldorf article of 25 November 2025, the stalls run along the Flinger Straße; another source places them on the Marktplatz. The safest bet is to talk about the area around the Rathaus and the Flinger Straße, Visit Düsseldorf source.
Highlights
- The Handwerker-Markt, between the Rathaus and the Alte Kämmerei: craftspeople at work, wood carvers, scented candles. The city describes it as family-friendly.
- Regional specialities, best tasted while you walk rather than at a single stall.
- The old town is a few minutes’ walk from the Königsallee and the Rhine.
To carry on after the stalls, a guided walking tour of the old town adds what the market doesn’t show: the history of the centre and its curiosities, told by a guide over two hours. It suits anyone who wants to understand the neighbourhood more than buy a product. The description says an Altbier is served on request. The catch: the price starts at €23 per adult, so €46 for two adults. Check the start time on the Viator page before you book.
3. Roncalli, Corneliusplatz and the Ferris wheel: the Rhine and the Burgplatz

Roncalli Christmas promenade, on the Rheinufer
Roncalli is the most different market of the lot. It sits on the Rheinufer, between the Burgplatz and the old harbour, with old circus wagons and glass orangeries. According to a 2024 interview, the organisers wanted a calm promenade with no music. The mulled wine is organic and comes from a winemaker in the Palatinate, and one stall serves rouladen. festivalsindeutschland lists the opening on 20 November at 11 am.
Highlights
- A slower pace, handy with young children or for a break away from the old town crowds.
- Organic mulled wine, made by a Palatinate winemaker.
- The Rhine in the background, a short walk from the Burgplatz.

Wheel of Vision Ferris wheel and Corneliusplatz ice rink
The Wheel of Vision Ferris wheel takes over the Burgplatz in the run-up to Christmas. Visit Düsseldorf gives a height of 55 metres, 42 gondolas and a maximum of 8 people per gondola. No 2026 price is published on the official page, so ask the operator before you budget for the ride. The ice rink on the Corneliusplatz (DEG Winterwelt) appeared in a 2025 tourist listing with hours from 11 am to 10 pm; its 2026 prices weren’t found.
Highlights
- A view of the old town and the Rhine from the gondola, as Visit Düsseldorf recommends.
- A ride at the end of the day, when the city lights up, is the most photogenic slot.
- Skating and food stalls at the Corneliusplatz, easy to combine with the nearby Königsallee.
4. Königsallee, Schadowstraße and Winter Village: what’s still to be confirmed
North of the centre, the Schadowstraße hosts a market on its shopping street. The Kö-Bogen has a more contemporary market, which some blogs describe as livelier for younger visitors. Festivalsindeutschland also announces a Winter Village on the Königsallee, presented as new for 2026. The English page of Visit Düsseldorf for this village returns a 404 error, so we don’t present it as confirmed.
On the Königsallee, a guided-tour listing mentions a « Dome of Light ». It’s a useful visual landmark for the evening, as long as you check the setup on the spot, since the city doesn’t describe it on the pages we checked. The full route between the Rhine and the Königsallee is about two kilometres, an estimate to check on a map.
5. Budget: what’s published for 2026, and what isn’t
Entry to the central markets is free, according to the Visit Düsseldorf FAQ. The rest depends on your choices. Accommodation, the biggest expense, isn’t priced here: we found no reliable hotel rate for December 2026. The table below separates the 2026 prices that are published from the 2025 ballpark figures, which shouldn’t be taken as current prices.
| Item | Amount | Year and status |
|---|---|---|
| Entry to the central markets | €0 | 2026, free entry |
| Mulled wine (one cup) | about €5 | 2025, ballpark; no 2026 price published |
| « Printe & Punsch » guided tour (90 minutes) | from €20 per person | 2026, group of at least 10 people |
| Deutschlandticket (monthly pass) | €63 per month | 2026 |
| Wheel of Vision Ferris wheel | not published | 2026, ask the operator |
| Corneliusplatz ice rink | not published | 2026, ask the operator |

Mulled wine is the most visible cost. According to the association of Düsseldorf fairground traders, quoted by the dpa news agency, a cup reached about €5 in 2025, 50 cents more than the year before. The traders blame the wine growers for the rise. NRW figures cited by web.de put the regional average between €4 and €4.50 that same year. These are reference points, not a price: the city publishes no 2026 figure. Some stalls charge a refundable deposit (Pfand) on the cup, a practice seen at other German markets and not confirmed for Düsseldorf, so bring some coins.
Note that the « Printe & Punsch » tour lasts 90 minutes. Meet at the main entrance of St. Lambert’s church (Stiftsplatz). The guide speaks German, English, French and Dutch, and the tour ends with a mulled wine or hot chocolate with a pastry. It’s offered from €20 per person for a group of at least ten. For two people the rate doesn’t apply as it stands, so check with the organiser.
6. Getting there: train, Deutschlandticket and car
From France, the train is the simplest option. Eurostar gives 3h 58min between Paris and Düsseldorf, centre to centre, with fares from €35 in Standard, one way, subject to availability. A direct train isn’t confirmed: a Deutsche Bahn check from March 2026 found no connection without a change and suggests 5h 56min with one. Check the timetable when you book, not before.
From London, Eurostar’s own estimate is about 5h 40min, with one change of trains in Brussels. The page doesn’t quote a fare, so check the price on the booking screen. Flights are the other option; we didn’t check their times or fares for this guide.
From Cologne, the ICE takes about 20 minutes, with around 89 departures a day according to a Deutsche Bahn check on 26 October 2026. It’s the most flexible option for a stopover. In the city, the station recommended by Visit Düsseldorf is Heinrich-Heine-Allee (U-Bahn).
| Trip | Journey time | Fare or frequency | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paris to Düsseldorf (Eurostar) | 3h 58min, centre to centre | From €35, one way, Standard | Subject to availability; direct not confirmed |
| Paris to Düsseldorf (Deutsche Bahn) | 5h 56min | Not stated | With a change, check from March 2026 |
| Cologne to Düsseldorf (ICE) | About 20 min | Not stated | About 89 departures a day, check of 26 October 2026 |
| Düsseldorf airport (P13) to the centre | Not checked for 2026 | KombiTicket of €9 or €10, depending on the site | Valid until 31 December 2026; price to confirm |
Sources: Eurostar, Paris to Düsseldorf, Deutsche Bahn, Düsseldorf to Paris, Deutsche Bahn, Köln to Düsseldorf, dus.com, Park & Ride, checked on 27 October 2026.
The Deutschlandticket costs €63 a month in 2026. In principle it covers regional trains, not ICE services: useful for getting around the region, but check the conditions when you buy it for the Cologne to Düsseldorf trip.
By car, the Provinzial car park on Hohensandweg 41 is free on Saturdays 5, 12 and 19 December 2026, from 10 am to 10 pm, according to the Visit Düsseldorf FAQ. Rates for the city-centre car parks (Rheinufer, Schadowstraße, Carlsplatz) aren’t published for 2026. Border checks at the German borders with France and Belgium have been in place since 16 September 2024, according to the ADAC; their status at the end of 2026 isn’t confirmed. A valid ID is still required.
7. Weather and what to wear in December
December stays cold and damp in Düsseldorf. wetter.de’s averages give a minimum of 2 °C and a maximum of 5.8 °C, with 78% cloud cover on average. Sources disagree on rainfall: 93 mm according to wetter.de, 66 mm according to wohin-und-wann.de, which counts about four rainy days a month. Keep the order of magnitude in mind.
| Indicator | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Average minimum temperature | 2.0 °C | wetter.de |
| Average maximum temperature | 5.8 °C | wetter.de |
| Average rainfall | 93 mm (or 66 mm) | wetter.de (or wohin-und-wann.de) |
| Average cloud cover | 78% | wetter.de |
Source: wetter.de, Düsseldorf climate in December, checked on 27 October 2026.
In practice, bring a waterproof coat, shoes with good grip and a scarf for the queues at the stalls.
8. A typical day: the order that works
The centre is easy to cover on foot, and the order of your visits matters more than the number of stalls. Here’s a plan for one day, to adjust to your arrival time. It isn’t an official programme, just a route that cuts down on back-and-forth.
The plan
- 11 am: Rathaus and Handwerker-Markt. Arrive early, to tour the craft stalls before the afternoon crowds.
- 12 pm to 1 pm: lunch in the old town. Then regional specialities along the Flinger Straße.
- 2 pm: towards the Rhine. Walk to the Burgplatz (Ferris wheel, price to confirm), then Roncalli, calm and with no music.
- 4 pm: Königsallee and Schadowstraße. Head back into the centre as the light fades, which comes early in December.
- 6 pm to 8 pm: evening in the Altstadt. Mulled wine, then a brewery if you want to carry on with a local beer.
An undated account describes a Saturday evening when you can’t move along the Heinrich-Heine-Platz: avoid that slot if you want room. If you arrive on 26 December, the market only opens at 2 pm: plan a late lunch and start by the Rhine.
9. Depending on your profile
Families with young children
The Handwerker-Markt and Roncalli are cited as the most child-friendly. A Märchenmarkt, with stories and a carousel for the little ones, is described by a 2025 blog. We haven’t checked it for 2026, and the city hasn’t confirmed a children’s programme for this year.
Couples or adults travelling together
Roncalli in early afternoon, then the old town as the light fades, is a combination that works well. For a night out for two, the « Printe & Punsch » tour doesn’t apply: its price from €20 per person is for a group of at least ten. The six Altbier breweries in section 11 are an alternative, without checked opening hours.
On a small budget
Entry is free. No 2026 stall prices are published; the only reference point is mulled wine, about €5 a cup in 2025. Limit yourself to one or two cups if you want to keep the day under control. Use public transport rather than taxis.
With reduced mobility
Visit Düsseldorf says the paths and toilets are accessible, and that there are tactile maps at the Rathaus and on the Königsallee. The city also offers a guided tour adapted to wheelchair users in the old town. No official data describes the full accessibility of the route, cobblestones included. Check the route before you come.
10. Mistakes to avoid
- Coming on 22 November or 25 December. The market is closed on both days.
- Reading a 2025 price as a 2026 rate. Mulled wine and the attractions have no published 2026 price.
- Booking the « Printe & Punsch » tour as a couple. The price from €20 applies to a group of at least ten. Cancellation is free up to 7 days before, 50% between 6 and 1 days before, and 100% on the day.
- Counting on an ice rink or Winter Village that isn’t confirmed. Check it’s open before you plan a slot around it.
11. After the market: Altbier
In Düsseldorf, the beer of choice is Altbier, an amber-brown ale served in the old town’s breweries. Visit Düsseldorf listed six in a 29 January 2026 article: Zum Schlüssel (Bolker Straße), Im Füchschen (Ratinger Straße, brewing since 1640), Brauerei Schumacher (since 1838), Uerige and Brauereiausschank Frankenheim (Altstadt), and Brauhaus Alter Bahnhof (Belsenplatz, Oberkassel). The article doesn’t give opening hours: check with each venue.
If you prefer a guided visit, the walking tour in section 2 covers the old town. For a free tasting, pick one of the six breweries above.
If you’re extending your trip in the region or weighing up several cities, Pixidia has published guides to other markets to compare atmosphere, hours and budget: the Frankfurt Christmas market, Stuttgart’s, Hamburg’s, and the Christmas villages of Alsace.
What other guides don’t tell you
These points are checked against an official or institutional source, consulted on 27 October 2026. The guides we read for this piece leave them out or get them wrong.
- The market starts on 19 November, not 20 November. Visit Düsseldorf announces Thursday 19 November; the 20th matches the opening of Roncalli at 11 am according to festivalsindeutschland. Visit Düsseldorf, event page (checked 27 October 2026).
- Sunday 22 November is closed, for Totensonntag. Visit Düsseldorf, English page (checked 27 October 2026).
- On 26 December the market opens from 2 pm to 9 pm, not 2 pm to 8 pm, the hours another page carried over from 2025. Visit Düsseldorf, event page (checked 27 October 2026).
- Shopping Sunday is 29 November, from 1 pm to 6 pm. Another site lists « 30.11 », which falls on a Monday in 2026. Visit Düsseldorf, shopping Sunday (checked 27 October 2026).
- No luggage bus in 2026, and no cash machine at the themed markets, according to the official FAQ. Visit Düsseldorf, FAQ (checked 27 October 2026).
- The Ferris wheel is 55 m tall, with 42 gondolas of up to 8 people. These specifications are on the official page, though guides rarely repeat them. Visit Düsseldorf, Ferris wheel (checked 27 October 2026).

The ADAC reports border checks at German borders since 2024. Their 2026 status isn’t confirmed: bring a valid ID.
