According to the operator, from Sunday 13 December 2026, European Sleeper will serve Breda and Eindhoven on its night train to Milan, with no change of train. Today these stations are not served. The press times (Breda 7:03 pm, Eindhoven 7:44 pm) are unconfirmed, and no fare is published for this leg.

Checked on against the official sources cited (operator timetable and fares, NS International).

Two new Dutch stops on a night train that already links Brussels and Milan. Breda and Eindhoven are not served today. According to the operator, from Sunday 13 December 2026 the train will stop there; the press talks about 14 December, a date not yet confirmed. This article separates what the operator publishes from what the press reports, so you can book on facts rather than on a rumour about a station.

What changes from 13 December 2026

Since Wednesday 9 September 2026, European Sleeper has run a night service between Brussels-Midi and Milano Porta Garibaldi, with stops in Germany, Switzerland and Ticino. The change announced for December alters the route: the train will run via Antwerp, Breda and Eindhoven instead of the current route via Aachen, and then join Cologne.

For a traveller from Brabant or the Eindhoven area, the appeal is simple: according to the announcement, there will be no connection to organise. You board the carriage at your own station, as on a direct train. Today it is the opposite: the operator’s dated timetable, consulted on 25 October 2026, contains no Dutch stop.

To compare this option with a flight or another night train from France, our night train or plane to Italy comparison covers journey times and costs.

Why 13 December and not 14

The operator and NS International announce the change for 13 December 2026, a Sunday, with a new annual timetable published « subject to change » (onder voorbehoud in Dutch). The press, including IamExpat and NL Times, gives 14 December, a Monday, which does not match the service pattern described by the newspapers. So 13 December is the date the operator announces, but it remains to be confirmed: the press says 14 December, and no date is yet shown as final on the dated timetable.

Which days and which directions

According to the press in June 2026, the train towards Milan would run on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays in the late evening, leaving Breda and Eindhoven around 7 pm. The reverse direction would run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in the evening. These days come from the press, not from the operator. The dated timetable for 24 to 26 October follows a different schedule, and its dates do not quite match: for December, the date shown on your booking is what counts.

Timetables: the official dated one on one side, the press on the other

There are two levels. The operator’s official dated timetable, valid from 24 to 26 October 2026, describes the line as it runs today: it includes neither Breda nor Eindhoven. The Dutch times come from the June 2026 press and do not yet appear on this timetable.

The times announced for Breda and Eindhoven

These times come from the press: NL Times (4 June 2026), Treinreiziger (1 June 2026) and VRT (9 September 2026). The operator has not confirmed them. Each time is therefore marked as a press source, unconfirmed.

Press source, unconfirmed: NL Times, 4 June 2026; Treinreiziger, 1 June 2026, checked on 25 October 2026.

Calculated from these press times, the journeys come to about 16 hours 27 minutes from Breda to Milan, and about 15 hours 46 minutes from Eindhoven to Milan (unconfirmed calculation). On arrival in Milan, the dated timetable shows 11:45 am today, and the press says 11:30 am or 11:40 am for December. Keep a window rather than a precise time until the operator publishes its December timetable.

For Lake Como, the daytime section is what matters: according to the dated timetable, the train reaches Como San Giovanni around 10:45 am in the Brussels-to-Milan direction. The last part of the journey is therefore in full daylight.

Fares: the published prices, and what is missing

No fare is published for the trip from Breda to Milan or from Eindhoven to Milan. The fares below are the line’s « from » prices, for a one-way ticket per person. The real price depends on the date, demand and the category you choose: check it at the time of booking.

Two gaps matter for your budget. The Budget seat, from €29.99 according to the press (IamExpat, 3 June 2026), is the lowest fare quoted; it does not appear on the operator pages we read. The Classic shared couchette starts at €49.99, €20 more. Between that couchette and the Comfort Plus at €129.99, the gap is €80 per person: the difference mainly pays for breakfast and a fuller package, according to the operator’s descriptions.

Interrail and Eurail passes are accepted, but a reservation remains mandatory. No surcharge specific to the Dutch stations has been published. A 2024 Eurail source, older, mentioned only the pass and the reservation: check when you buy.

Milan: Porta Garibaldi and Lake Como

Milano Porta Garibaldi, about a 30-minute walk from the Duomo (according to tourist sites)

Arrives around 11:45 am (dated timetable) Terminus on the Italian side About 3 km from the Duomo

The train ends its run at Milano Porta Garibaldi. According to tourist sites (MilanoFree, Omio), the station is about 3 km from the Duomo, roughly a 30-minute walk, and served by metro lines M2 and M5. These line details do not come from ATM and have not been checked with the transport operator: verify them before you leave.

On the dated timetable, Como San Giovanni is served at 10:45 am towards Milan and at 2:45 pm in the other direction: the lake is crossed in daylight, with no night stop. For another December idea in Milan, the Oh Bej Oh Bej 2026 Christmas fair covers the dates, venues and activities.

Good to know before you leave

  • Arrival around 11:45 am according to the dated timetable, 11:30 to 11:40 am according to the press for December.
  • Como San Giovanni is a daytime stop in both directions, according to the dated timetable.
  • The walk to the centre takes about 30 minutes, according to tourist sites (MilanoFree, Omio).
Pixidia tip: only book a Lake Como excursion once you have confirmed your arrival time in Milan on your ticket, especially if the tour starts at a fixed time. A train delay, even a short one, affects the rest of the day.

The Swiss crossing: Aarau, Bellinzona and Lugano

The train crosses Switzerland without a full night there. On the dated timetable, Aarau replaces Zurich, which appeared in the March 2026 announcements. The train reaches Aarau around 5:38 am towards Milan, then Bellinzona around 9:06 am, Lugano around 9:40 am and Como San Giovanni around 10:45 am. On the dated timetable, the night is spent between Brussels and Aarau, with no Dutch stop; after 13 December (announced), it will start from Breda or Eindhoven. Ticino is seen in full daylight.

Zurich is about 30 minutes from Aarau by regional train, according to the press: this is a connection detail, not checked against a Swiss timetable. For a traveller who wants to stop in Switzerland, Aarau is therefore the most useful station on the route.

Three things to know about the Swiss section

  • Aarau around 5:38 am towards Milan: the overnight section ends early, according to the dated timetable for 24 to 26 October 2026.
  • Lugano: stop in both directions according to the dated timetable. An Arenaways page (July 2026) says « pick-up only », a version the operator contradicts.
  • Göschenen: announced in March 2026 for access to the Andermatt ski resorts, but absent from the dated timetable. Don’t count on it.

Before 13 December: getting to the train from Brabant

Until the change, you have to reach Brussels-Midi by your own means. One possible route goes via Antwerp: an NS or SNCB train to Antwerp, then Antwerp to Brussels-Midi. For Breda to Antwerp, the NS International page shows a fare from €6 and a journey of about 20 minutes. Trainline and EveryRail give 41 to 42 minutes: the gap is not settled, so check the route on the day of travel.

No connection has been verified between NS timetables and the departure from Brussels-Midi, which varies between 5:22 pm and 6:17 pm depending on the timetable version. Before you buy anything, calculate the full journey on the NS International or SNCB website. Travellers from Tilburg, Helmond or ‘s-Hertogenbosch are not mentioned in the sources: they will reach Breda or Eindhoven by regional train, to be checked.

Breda and Eindhoven, two stations that become boarding points

At Breda, the train will stop at 7:03 pm towards Milan (press source, unconfirmed); at Eindhoven, at 7:44 pm (press source, unconfirmed). These times do not yet appear on the official dated timetable. For both stations, the operator has not published a fare specific to the Dutch leg.

Pixidia tip: we could not verify whether sales are open for Breda and Eindhoven as of 25 October 2026. Check in the booking flow, including the boarding station, before you plan your ticket.

Papers, checks and EES: what is certain and what is not

The operator does not publish any rule on identity documents on board, and no FAQ page on the subject was found. It is therefore prudent to carry a valid passport or ID card, whatever your nationality.

Three points are, however, sourced. Germany is extending its checks on all its land borders until mid-March 2027, according to announcements of 18 and 19 August 2026 reported by the press (The Local). The Entry/Exit System (EES) has been fully operational since 10 April 2026 at the external borders of 29 countries, for non-EU nationals on short stays (European Commission). Switzerland is a Schengen member and is among these countries.

Non-EU nationals need a passport and, where required, a visa. ETIAS, the travel authorisation planned for visa-exempt travellers, was not operational on 25 October 2026 and has no confirmed date: don’t wait for it to prepare your trip. EU nationals are not subject to it.

Booking and cancelling: what the operator says

Direct sales go through europeansleeper.eu. Sales opened on 2 June 2026 for trips up to 3 January 2027, according to June press reports (NL Times, RailwayPro). For the Dutch leg, sales were not checked as of 25 October 2026: check them before you plan your trip. No rule is published for a postponement of the Dutch stop or a timetable change; we found no entitlement on this point.

The « Good Night » conditions and their limits

The operator’s passes page indicates a 100% refund up to 30 days before departure, then 50% up to 15 days before. A B2B distributor states that « Easy Night » tickets are non-refundable and « Flex Night » tickets are refundable up to 48 hours before. This document is not official: it serves as an indication, not a promise.

Another version is circulating: the Interrail page gives a stricter rule, with 50% between 29 and 15 days and nothing in the last 14 days. It may concern another product. Don’t promise anything to someone close to you without reading the conditions of the exact ticket you buy.

  • Read the conditions of the ticket before you pay, then keep the confirmation.
  • For costs incurred after a cancellation, compensation is possible if staff approved them in advance (third-party form, to be checked).

Variations by traveller profile

Tight budget. The Budget seat, from €29.99 according to the press, remains the lowest fare quoted. It means sleeping sitting up: before choosing it, ask yourself whether you can cope with a night in a seat, since the shared couchette only costs €20 more.

Families. Shared couchettes (€49.99) and private compartments (€179.99 or €209.99 depending on the page) exist. Child fares are not on the pages we read: ask the operator before booking.

First time. Allow a one-hour margin between the announced arrival and your first appointment in Milan. A 20-minute delay at Cologne was reported on the first journey, on 10 September 2026, by a single account (Treinreiziger).

Reduced mobility. The sources we read describe neither the accessibility of the carriages nor that of the platforms at Breda and Eindhoven. Ask the operator for information before booking.

Pets. A dog or cat is listed at €29.99 on the operator’s page. Admission rules still need checking before purchase.

What other guides don’t tell you

Six points that the operator’s pages and the press let you verify:

  • No Dutch stop before 13 December. Several guides mention Breda and Eindhoven without pointing out that the line does not stop there today. Source: operator’s official timetable (24 to 26 October 2026, consulted on 25 October 2026).
  • The change falls on a Sunday. The press writes 14 December, a Monday. Source: NS International, timetable « subject to change » (consulted on 25 October 2026).
  • Como and Lugano are crossed in daylight. Aggregators give 10:41 am and 6:33 pm for Como; the dated timetable gives 10:45 am towards Milan and 2:45 pm in the other direction. Source: official timetable (consulted on 25 October 2026).
  • Göschenen is not a stop for now. Announced in March 2026, it is absent from the dated timetable. Source: official timetable (consulted on 25 October 2026).
  • Two prices for the private compartment. €179.99 on the homepage, €209.99 on the Milan page. Source: operator pages (consulted on 25 October 2026).
  • No identity rule published. A search of the operator’s site found no FAQ page on the subject; one URL tried returns a 404 error. Source: operator site (consulted on 25 October 2026).
