The most accessible day trip from Buenos Aires is a boat day on the Tigre delta, about an hour by train from Retiro, from $130 to $180 per adult for two travelers. Areco gaucho days start at $159 per adult. Colonia has no top-rated product from Buenos Aires, and Iguazu Falls needs two or three days.
Verified on via the Viator partner API (prices, ratings, availability).
Most lists of day trips from Buenos Aires are lists of places. This one answers a narrower question: which day trip is worth a full day of your visit, and what does it cost two people on a real date? We checked the Viator catalogue on October 11, 2026, kept only products rated 4.7 or higher with at least 100 reviews, and priced each one for two adults on departures from October 25 to December 23, 2026.
Start with the Tigre Safari Delta private boat day, which is open on every date in the window. If the delta is your priority, check its dates on Viator before you read further.
Eight products made the cut. Six are trips out of the city, one is a winery lunch on the outskirts, and one mixes a city tour with a delta boat ride. The bar is 4.7 stars and 100 reviews, which leaves few products on the map, so a sold-out departure may have no second choice in the same town.
Two places are not on the ranked list. Colonia del Sacramento, across the river in Uruguay, is the day trip that most of the search results we sampled name first, and no top-rated product in our check leaves from Buenos Aires for it. Iguazu Falls is a flight trip that needs two or three days, not a day trip, so it appears in the preparation section with its conditions.
How we chose the day trips from Buenos Aires
A day trip from Buenos Aires means something specific: you leave the city in the morning and you are back in town by evening. Two distances define the list, and a third explains the gap. Tigre sits about 19 miles (30 km) north of downtown, roughly an hour by commuter train from Retiro, and the Tren de la Costa carries you on to the Delta station where most boats leave. San Antonio de Areco is about 70 miles (110 km) northwest, a drive of 1.5 to 2 hours through the Pampas. Colonia del Sacramento, in Uruguay, is across the Rio de la Plata.
We pulled the products that depart from Buenos Aires, applied a floor of 4.7 stars with at least 100 reviews, and checked each candidate’s departure point, duration and open dates. Prices come from the October 11, 2026 check for two adults, in US dollars. We never use the « from » price Viator shows in search, because it is a floor for all ages and group sizes.
The list falls into four families and one mixed day. The first is the delta: boat rides through the channels of the Paraná Delta, from Tigre (cards 1 and 2). The second is the polo day (card 3), a sport rather than a river or a farm, and the only polo product that passed our floor. The third is the gaucho day in San Antonio de Areco, which offers three products at three price points and three group sizes (cards 4 to 6). The fourth is the winery lunch on the outskirts of the city (card 7). Card 8, a city tour with a delta boat ride, is the mixed day.

Prices and availability checked on the Viator partner API on October 11, 2026, for departures from October 25 to December 23, 2026 (60 days). Prices are in US dollars per adult for 2 travelers and vary by date and group size. Days available counts the dates open for booking when we checked. Iguazu Falls is left out of the table because it is a two or three day trip (see the preparation section).
Eight day trips from Buenos Aires, grouped by what they feel like
The first two cards are the delta. Card 3 is the polo day. Cards 4 to 6 are the gaucho ladder, from shared to private. Card 7 is the wine lunch, and card 8 is the mixed day.

1. Tigre Safari Delta: a private boat day in the delta
This is the card to read first if you want the delta and nothing else. The boat is private, built for the narrow channels that larger launches cannot enter, and the listing caps each boat at five passengers. The listing describes 4 to 5 hours on the water. The rating rests on 103 reviews, a small sample, so read the most recent comments. The catch is the meeting point: you meet at the Delta station of the Tren de la Costa in Tigre, where the operator kiosk is inside the station, not at your hotel, so plan the train or the taxi into your morning. Choose this over card 2 if you want the boat to yourself and can pay about $50 more per adult for the privacy.
- Private boat for your group, up to five passengers
- Meets at the Delta station in Tigre, not at your hotel
- Lunch is not included

2. Tigre semi-private navigation: the lowest-priced boat day
The cheapest boat day on the list, with a four-hour listing. The boat is semi-private, which means you share it with other guests, so the experience is looser and the price lower. Pickup is from your lodging in Buenos Aires, which spares you the train change that card 1 requires. The catch is the calendar. When we checked on October 11, 2026, only 18 of the 60 dates in the window were open: October 26, October 30, November 20, December 9, December 14 and December 23. If none of those fit your trip, take card 1 or card 8 instead. Bottled water and a snack are included, and lunch is not.
- Semi-private: you share the boat with other guests
- Hotel pickup in Buenos Aires
- Bottled water and a snack included, lunch not included

3. Polo match, barbecue and lesson: the signature day
This is the card for a traveler who wants one signature experience rather than a river scene. A polo match played by professionals is the centerpiece. The title lists a barbecue lunch; the listed inclusions are hotel pickup and drop-off, a polo lesson and equipment. At $338 per adult for two, it is the most expensive day trip on the list, and at nine hours it asks a lot of anyone who came for a single afternoon, so check how the day is laid out before you book. Gratuities are not included. The rating is 4.97 from 462 reviews, a solid base, and every date in the window is open.
- Polo match played by professionals
- Polo lesson and equipment included
- Hotel pickup and drop-off; gratuities not included

4. Estancia day with horseback riding: the lowest gaucho price
This is the lowest-priced gaucho day on the list, at $159 per adult for two travelers. It is a shared full-day tour with a professional guide, pickup and drop-off at your hotel, horseback riding, a traditional barbecue lunch and a live gaucho show, all listed as included. Tips and souvenirs are excluded. It has the second-largest review base in the list, 1,074 reviews at 4.75, and 56 of the 60 dates are open. The trade-off is the format. A shared group means the operator sets the pace, and you share the day and the table with people you did not choose. If that feels like too much company, card 5 costs $9 more per adult and runs with a smaller group.
- Horseback riding and a traditional barbecue lunch
- Hotel pickup and drop-off, with a professional guide
- Live gaucho show; tips and souvenirs excluded

5. Small-group farm day in San Antonio de Areco
This card has the largest review count in the list, 1,091 reviews at 4.83, which makes it the best-tested gaucho day here. It is a small-group tour, a smaller crowd than the shared estancia day in card 4, and it includes hotel pickup and drop-off, a professional local guide and live entertainment. Soft drinks and alcoholic beverages are listed as included, and gratuities are excluded. At $168 per adult for two, it sits $9 above card 4, so the real question is group size, not price. It is open on 57 of the 60 dates, the most open calendar of the three gaucho days.
- Small group, with a professional local guide
- Hotel pickup and drop-off, live entertainment
- Soft drinks and alcohol listed as included; gratuities excluded

6. Private tour of Areco: the town and the estancia
This is the most private gaucho day here, and the longest, at ten hours. You get an air-conditioned private transfer in and out of Buenos Aires, a tailor-made tour of the town with a professional local guide, and every estancia activity in the listing: horse riding or a carriage ride, folkloric dance, and an equestrian gaucho performance. At $310 per adult for two travelers, it costs nearly twice card 5, so choose it for the transfer and the tailoring, not for the animals. The rating is 4.94 from 125 reviews, a solid sample for a private product. Fifty-two of the 60 dates are open, so check the calendar before you pick a weekend.
- Private, air-conditioned transfer in and out of Buenos Aires
- Tailor-made town tour with a professional local guide
- All estancia activities: riding or carriage, folkloric dance, gaucho performance

7. Malbec tasting and a five-course lunch at Bodega Gamboa
This is the one card here that is not about the river or the countryside. A Malbec tasting and a five-course lunch at a winery on the outskirts of Buenos Aires make a food-led day. Transport and vineyard admission are included, and gratuities are excluded. It has a 7-hour listing with pickup at your lodging, so it fits around other plans better than the 9-hour options. The rating is the lowest of the eight at 4.72, close to our 4.7 floor, though 236 reviews is a comfortable sample. At $169 per adult for two, it is priced close to the shared estancia day, and 44 of the 60 dates are open. Choose it for a wine lover or for a traveler who wants a lunch built around the tasting. Skip it if you came to see the Pampas or the delta.
- Malbec tasting and a five-course lunch
- Transport and vineyard admission included
- Pickup at your lodging; gratuities excluded

8. Buenos Aires and the delta in one private day: a mixed day
This card does not fit the day-trip definition cleanly, and we say so here. The listing combines a private car and a bilingual local guide, with about an hour of navigation in the Tigre delta and a city tour. You get Buenos Aires and the water in one booking, which no other product on the list offers, and your group stays private from start to finish. Expect most of the day to be in town, with the delta as a single slice. The listing describes nine hours in total. Lunch and bags are excluded, and all fees and taxes are included. At $160 per adult for two, it is the least expensive private option on the list, and 60 of the 60 dates are open. Choose it if you want city and delta in one day. Skip it if you want a full day away from Buenos Aires.
- Private car with a bilingual local guide
- About one hour of delta navigation, then the city tour
- Lunch and bags excluded; all fees and taxes included

Get my quoteThe only top-rated product we could verify that leaves Buenos Aires for Iguazu. From $390 per adult for two travelers, checked October 11, 2026. The $390 price check does not tell us whether it includes the economy flight, which the listing offers as an option. Confirm which option the $390 refers to, and the total, on the listing before you book. Airport transfers in Buenos Aires are included only if you pick the flight option. The listing declares 24 hours and all sales are final, with no free cancellation. Wikivoyage recommends two to three days at the falls.

Getting to Tigre. Take the commuter train from Retiro on the Mitre line, which takes about an hour. Then ride the Tren de la Costa to the Delta station, where the boat tour in card 1 meets. Leave a margin, because a delay on the first leg eats into your boat slot.
What a gaucho day looks like. The operator listings describe a typical sequence: a walk through the town of San Antonio de Areco, a visit to an estancia, lunch, a show, and the return to Buenos Aires at the end of the day. The drive is about 70 miles (110 km) and takes 1.5 to 2 hours each way, so the day is long.
Colonia, if you want it. Fast ferry from the Buenos Aires port takes about an hour; the slower ferry about three hours. Check the operator’s schedule on the day.
Entry rules and advisories. We could not read the U.S. State Department travel advisory for Argentina when we checked on October 11, 2026, because the page returned an access error. This article therefore does not state a current risk level, an entry fee or a visa rule. The Argentine Embassy’s U.S. page covers the passport validity rule for consular visa applications, and we did not confirm how it applies to a U.S. citizen arriving without a visa. Check the current advisory and entry requirements on an official page before you book, and again before you travel. The State Department advisory page for Argentina is the place to start.
Money and tips. Viator lists prices in US dollars. Card fees and exchange rates depend on your bank, so we give no conversion here. Tipping a guide or a driver is customary for US travelers, and several listings exclude gratuities (cards 3, 4, 5 and 7 are examples), so budget for them.
Season and weather. October to December is spring in Buenos Aires: mild to warm, with rain possible in the afternoon. Check the forecast before you commit to a multi-day trip.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best day trip from Buenos Aires?
There is no single winner. The Tigre boat day is the most accessible (about an hour by train from Retiro, $130 to $180 per adult for two). The most-reviewed option is the small-group farm day near San Antonio de Areco (1,091 reviews, 4.83, $168 per adult for two).
Can I visit Colonia del Sacramento on a Viator day trip from Buenos Aires?
Not with a top-rated product, based on our check. The one small-group Colonia tour that leaves from Buenos Aires is rated 4.68, below our 4.7 floor, and the second Colonia listing has no confirmed Buenos Aires departure. You can still go on your own: the fast ferry takes about an hour and the slow one about three. Check the document requirements for Uruguay on an official page before you travel; we did not verify them for this article.
Can you see Iguazu Falls in one day from Buenos Aires?
Realistically, no. The falls are about two and a half hours away by air. The only top-rated product we could verify that leaves Buenos Aires is a private tour listed at 24 hours with optional airfare, with all sales final and no free cancellation. Wikivoyage recommends two to three days at the falls. If you do not have that time, choose a delta or gaucho day from the list above. Read the conditions.
Do I need a visa to visit Argentina as a U.S. citizen?
This article does not state a visa or entry rule; see Practical notes.
How much should I tip on these day tours?
The usual norm for restaurants in Argentina is a tip of around 10 percent, according to the guides we consulted; the gratuity status of each tour is in its card.
Are the prices in this article final?
No. Prices and open dates were checked on the Viator partner API on October 11, 2026, for departures from October 25 to December 23, 2026. Prices are in US dollars per adult for two travelers, and they change with the date and the group size. We did not check a price for four, so ask Viator at booking for the figure that matches your group.
