The Atlas Mountains and Three Valleys day trip is the strongest first pick from Marrakech: $22.91 per adult for 2 travelers, with a camel ride and tea included, rated 4.82 from 12,203 reviews. For waterfalls, Ourika starts at $16.15 per adult.

Most visitors arrive in Marrakech with one clear question for their first week: which day trip is worth a full day out of the city? We started from the Viator catalog for Marrakech, kept tours rated 4.7 or higher with at least 100 reviews, and compared what remained on the things that decide your day: time on the road, what is included, how hard the walking is, and whether you can cancel.

The short answer for most first-time visitors is the Atlas Mountains and Three Valleys day trip with a camel ride. It is the second most reviewed tour on the list, it picks you up at your hotel, and it costs $22.91 per adult for 2 travelers on the cheapest bookable option. If you want something different, the rest of this guide covers a waterfall, a desert sunset, a coastal city and a kasbah, and says what each one costs you in hours and effort.

The prices, ratings and availability figures on this page come from the Viator partner API and were checked on October 16, 2026 for departures between October 30 and December 28, 2026. Prices move with demand, so treat them as a starting point and confirm the final figure at checkout. We left out flights, and we left out the city of Marrakech itself: this list covers the day trips that leave the city, from the High Atlas to the Atlantic coast.

Why Day Trips From Marrakech Are Worth Planning

Marrakech works well as a base because the landscape changes quickly once you leave the medina. The High Atlas rises to the south, the Agafay stony desert lies to the southwest, and the Atlantic coast sits a few hours to the west. The real question is not whether to leave the city, but which direction is worth the time in the car.

Distance is the main constraint, so start there. The Ouzoud waterfalls lie about 150 km to the northeast, and Introducing Marrakech estimates two and a half to three hours of driving. Essaouira is about 180 km to the west, and operator estimates for the drive run from two and a half to three and a half hours, as listed by Hellotickets. Ait Ben Haddou is roughly 200 km away over the Tizi n’Tichka pass, according to Daytrip.

Agafay is the shortest trip. Sources put the drive at about 40 minutes to one hour, and Wikivoyage describes its camel rides as short, scenic loops rather than a crossing of the desert. For the sunset formulas, one operator listing puts the pickup about two hours before sunset. That makes Agafay the right format for a single afternoon or evening.

Essaouira needs a warning of its own. The Essaouira tour on this list starts with a pickup at 7:30 a.m. and lasts 10 hours. Its description has you arrive around midday, with free time in the medina, and much of the day is spent on the road. It suits visitors who want to see the coast in one go and do not need a slow lunch or a sunset by the port. We left out the private Casablanca day trip, which the listing puts at 11 hours. It is a city visit rather than a trip into the landscape, and the long drive does not buy much for one day.

Season matters most for the waterfalls. Introducing Marrakech recommends visiting Ouzoud from March to June, when the flow is strongest. We did not verify December road conditions for these sites, so ask your supplier closer to the date. For the desert, the sunset comes earlier in December than in October, so the start time of an evening tour moves too.

Use the comparison below to match a tour to your time, budget and fitness. The practical sections after the list cover the questions that decide whether a day trip works: pickup, tipping, cash, cancellation and entry rules.

1. Atlas Mountains and Three Valleys With a Camel Ride

Rating 4.82 (12203 reviews) 7 hours From $22.91 per adult (2 travelers)

This is the tour we would book first for a first visit to Marrakech, and the reasons are practical. Hotel pickup is included in an air-conditioned vehicle, and the day moves through three valleys and a set of waterfalls, with a camel ride and tea in the price. You see village life in the High Atlas from close range, and the listing puts the day at seven hours, so you are back in Marrakech the same day with time left for the rest of your trip. The optional Berber lunch costs about 7 EUR per person, paid locally as the listing states, so bring a little cash. The price shown is for the cheapest bookable option; the listing also offers a private version, which we did not price. At 12,203 reviews, it is the second most reviewed tour on this list, so the format has been tested by a large group of travelers.

  • Hotel pickup in an air-conditioned vehicle
  • Camel ride and tea included
  • Optional Berber lunch, paid locally

2. Atlas Mountains and Five Valleys, All Inclusive

Rating 4.98 (4010 reviews) 7 to 8 hours From $90.48 per adult (2 travelers)

Choose this five-valley route if breakfast and lunch matter as much as the scenery. Breakfast is at an argan cooperative, lunch is a home-cooked meal, and entrance fees are included, so the day has fewer surprises at the checkout. The guide and driver speak English, and the walk goes through Berber villages of the High Atlas. Hotel, riad or Airbnb pickup is included, which matters if you are staying in the medina. The listing runs 7 to 8 hours, and tips and personal expenses are not included. The tour does not run on Sundays in the window we checked, so 51 of the 60 days were bookable. We did not price the private version of this route, so check it on the Viator page before you book. This is the right pick for a traveler who wants a full day with the meals and tickets already paid for in the price.

  • Home-cooked lunch and entrance fees included

3. Ourika Waterfalls, Mountain Hike and Riverside Lunch

Rating 4.84 (5315 reviews) 7 hours From $16.15 per adult (2 travelers)

If you want water and a guided walk on a modest budget, this is the answer. At $16.15 per adult for 2 travelers, it is one of the lowest prices on the list. The valley is about 60 km from Marrakech, according to the listing, and the tour includes round-trip transfer from your riad, hotel or Airbnb, a guide for the hike to the waterfalls, a small breakfast, mint tea, bottled water and a visit to a Berber house. The hike is the part to plan for. The listing says it is not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health, so be honest with yourself about the climb. Lunch by the river is optional, and bottled water or juice at lunch costs 1 to 4 EUR, per the listing. It suits a traveler who wants a waterfall, a guided walk and a small budget in one day.

  • Round-trip hotel transfer
  • Guide for the hike to the waterfalls
  • Small breakfast, mint tea and bottled water

4. Private Atlas Walk With Lunch in a Berber Home

Rating 4.99 (164 reviews) 8 hours From $137.43 per adult (2 travelers) Private tour

This is the private option for a walker who wants the day on their own terms. The listing has you picked up at your hotel around 9 a.m. for the transfer to Imlil, where the guide discusses your interests, the time you have and your fitness before you set off. You then walk five to six hours on traditional mule tracks through Berber villages, with views towards Toubkal, and have lunch with a family in their home. The menu is couscous or tagine, and a vegetarian option is available. Gratuities and bottled water are not included. The listing gives no fixed meeting point, so confirm the pickup place with the supplier when you book. The 4.99 rating comes from 164 reviews, a much smaller sample than the group tours, so read a few recent reviews. At $137.43 per adult for 2 travelers, it is the second-highest price on this list. It suits a couple or a small group of friends who are comfortable walking most of a day.

5. Ouzoud Waterfalls With a Guided Walk and Boat Ride

Rating 4.92 (4268 reviews) 9 hours From $19.02 per adult (2 travelers)

Choose Ouzoud for water and a walk, and plan for the stairs. The path to the lower falls has more than 500 steps, according to the Barceló guide, and you climb them again on the way back, so wear shoes with grip and carry water. The Hiiker trail guide rates the descent Medium, with irregular steps over about 1 km. The falls are about 150 km northeast of Marrakech, and the drive takes two and a half to three hours, according to Introducing Marrakech. The tour adds a guided walk and a boat ride, but the boat is an option rather than a guarantee, so check what your booking includes. The listing title says small group, while the description and options describe a private visit, so check whether the booking is a small group or a private tour before you pay. The day runs nine hours, with hotel pickup and drop-off included.

6. Essaouira Mogador Full Day With Medina and Beach

Rating 4.89 (2698 reviews) 10 hours From $14.24 per adult (2 travelers)

Essaouira is the coastal option: a medina on the Atlantic, reached by a long drive. Pickup is from 7:30 a.m. according to the listing, and the description has you arrive in Essaouira around midday, with free time to explore the medina. Operators put the drive at two and a half to three and a half hours one way, so a large part of the 10-hour day is spent on the road. The medina and beach entry is included, along with the driver, diesel and transport insurance. Food and drinks are not, so plan for lunch in town. The listing describes three formats (private guided, private day trip and shared group), and the price in our table is the cheapest bookable one, so check which format you are booking. If the coast is the point of the day, this tour delivers it. If you want a slow lunch and a sunset by the port, an overnight stay is the better fit.

  • Hotel pickup from 7:30 a.m.
  • Medina and beach entry included
  • Lunch and drinks not included

7. Ait Ben Haddou and Ouarzazate Over the Tizi n’Tichka Pass

Rating 4.95 (444 reviews) 10 to 12 hours From $205.01 per adult (2 travelers)

This is the most expensive tour on this list, and the one that takes you furthest into the High Atlas. Ait Ben Haddou is a fortified village on the Ounila river and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, about 200 km from Marrakech over the Tizi n’Tichka pass, which the listing puts at 2,260 meters (7,415 feet). The day includes hotel pickup, breakfast, a visit to a Berber family kasbah, a guided walk of 60 to 90 minutes, lunch and entrance fees, with roughly three hours in the kasbah. Tips and personal expenses are not included. The total runs 10 to 12 hours, with about 200 km of road each way. Choose it if the kasbah and the pass matter more to you than time at the coast. If a long day in a vehicle is not for you, the Agafay tours on this list run 4 to 6 hours. Sundays are closed, so book a weekday.

  • Guided walk and kasbah visit
  • Lunch and entrance fees included

8. Agafay Desert Quad, Camel Ride and Dinner Show

Rating 4.99 (14629 reviews) 6 hours From $13.74 per adult (2 travelers)

This is the most reviewed tour on this list, with 14,629 reviews, and the lowest price per adult at $13.74. It is an evening format: hotel pickup, a drive out into the Agafay stony desert, a camel ride of about 20 minutes, mint tea, a dinner and a fire show with live music. Bottled water is included. The quad bike is an upgrade, so the price covers the camel and dinner version. Tips are optional and not included in the price. The listing describes six hours in total, so ask for the evening departure time on your confirmation, because it decides when you eat and when you get back. It suits a traveler who wants a lively evening without a long day, and it is not a full-day experience. If you want a quieter, private evening in the desert, the next card is the one to compare.

  • Hotel pickup and drop-off included
  • Dinner, fire show and live music
  • Camel ride of about 20 minutes

9. Agafay Desert Sunset Tour, Private

Rating 5.0 (111 reviews) 4 to 6 hours From $68.72 per adult (2 travelers) Private tour

This is the short private option in the desert, and the one to choose if you want the sunset without the dinner show. The listing offers two versions: a 4WD drive out into the desert if you book the jeep option, or a camel ride. The route includes a sunset camel ride and Moroccan tea, and the price includes all fees and taxes. The pickup is near Jamaa el-Fna, in front of the Koutoubia mosque, where tourist buses stop. The tour takes four to six hours, and tips for the driver and staff are not included. The listing also says it is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries. The sample is small at 111 reviews, just above the 100-review minimum we set, so read a few recent reviews before you book. For sunset formulas, one operator listing puts the pickup about two hours before sunset, so ask for the exact time when you reserve.

  • Sunset camel ride
  • Moroccan tea

On-the-Ground Tips

Water falling over rock terraces at Ouzoud
Photo by Sergio Teixeira on Unsplash

Tipping is customary in Morocco, and the listings do not all answer the question the same way. Several tours on this list say tips are not included: the Atlas three-valley tour, the Atlas five-valley tour, the private Atlas walk, the Ait Ben Haddou day, the Agafay dinner show (where tips are optional) and the private Agafay sunset. The Ourika, Ouzoud and Essaouira listings do not mention tips, so ask the supplier before the day. Two guide publishers offer benchmarks. Intrepid Travel suggests 20 to 50 dirhams per person per day for a group guide, more for private service, and Conversant Traveller suggests 100 to 150 dirhams for a full day with a guide and driver. Treat these as guidelines, not rules, and keep small notes ready.

Budget the extras separately from the ticket. The optional Berber lunch on the Atlas three-valley tour costs about 7 EUR per person, paid locally, and bottled water or juice at the Ourika lunch costs 1 to 4 EUR, both as the listings state. The dirham is a currency you use inside Morocco, and you cannot easily exchange it once you leave. Withdraw cash from an ATM on arrival in Marrakech rather than before you travel. We do not quote an exchange rate here, because the rates in our sources differ too much to be useful.

We could not read the official U.S. or Moroccan pages while preparing this guide, so we do not state visa or passport rules here. Check the current requirements for U.S. citizens on travel.state.gov before you book, because entry rules change.

Read your confirmation for the pickup time, because it decides how your day starts. The Essaouira tour lists a 7:30 a.m. pickup, and the private Atlas walk lists about 9 a.m. from your hotel. For the other tours, the listing does not give a pickup time we could verify, so check the time on your confirmation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which day trip from Marrakech is best for a first visit?

For most first-time visitors, the Atlas Mountains and Three Valleys day trip with a camel ride is the strongest pick. It has a 4.82 rating from 12,203 reviews, hotel pickup, a camel ride and tea included, and free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure. It costs $22.91 per adult for 2 travelers on the cheapest bookable option. If you want water instead of mountains, the Ourika waterfall tour costs $16.15 per adult. See the details.

How much does a day trip from Marrakech cost per person?

The nine tours in this guide start at $13.74 per adult for the Agafay quad, camel and dinner show and reach $205.01 for the Ait Ben Haddou day, based on 2 travelers and the cheapest bookable option. The private Atlas walk is $137.43 per adult and the private Agafay sunset is $68.72. We did not price the private versions of the three-valley and five-valley tours. Prices were checked on October 16, 2026 and can change before you book.

Should I tip the guide and driver on a day trip from Marrakech?

Tipping is customary in Morocco. Several listings state that tips are not included in the price, including the Atlas three-valley and five-valley tours, the private Atlas walk, the Ait Ben Haddou day and the private Agafay sunset. Intrepid Travel suggests 20 to 50 dirhams per person per day for a group guide, more for private service. Conversant Traveller suggests 100 to 150 dirhams for a full day with a guide and driver. These are guidelines rather than rules, so ask the supplier what the tour expects before you book.

How hard is the walking on the day trips from Marrakech?

It varies a lot. Ouzoud has more than 500 steps down to the lower falls, and you climb them back up. The private Atlas walk is five to six hours of walking at your own pace, and the Ourika hike is not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health. The Agafay evening tours need little walking, with a camel ride of about 20 minutes on the dinner show. Ait Ben Haddou includes a guided walk of 60 to 90 minutes, plus roughly three hours in the kasbah.

Is a private tour worth the extra cost?

A private tour is worth it when pace, route or comfort matter more than price. The private Atlas walk costs $137.43 per adult for 2 travelers and gives you five to six hours of walking at your own pace, a private vehicle and lunch in a Berber family home. The private Agafay sunset costs $68.72 per adult, and its listing offers a 4WD drive on the jeep option. We did not price the private versions of the three-valley and five-valley tours, so check those on Viator before you compare.

Can I cancel a day trip from Marrakech for free?

Yes, on all nine tours in this guide the standard policy gives a full refund if you cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure. If you cancel less than 24 hours before departure, you get no refund (0 %). Three tours can also be cancelled by the supplier for bad weather: the private Atlas walk, the Agafay sunset and the Agafay quad and dinner show. The Atlas Mountains and Three Valleys tour can be cancelled by the supplier if the group is too small.

Is Essaouira a realistic day trip from Marrakech?

It is possible, but it is a long day. The Essaouira tour lists a 7:30 a.m. pickup, runs 10 hours, and has you reach Essaouira around midday, with free time in the medina. Operator estimates put the drive at two and a half to three and a half hours one way. The medina and beach entry is included, but lunch and drinks are not. If you want to walk the medina slowly and eat by the port, an overnight stay makes more sense than a single day.
