The official MUVE combined ticket, which includes the Palace, costs about $40 (EUR 35) and comes with no guide. The cheapest of eight Viator tours with entry costs $95.92 per adult for two travelers. The ticket suits a visitor who already knows the history. A tour is worth the extra money if you want a guide.
Verified on via the Viator partner API (tour prices, ratings, availability) and the official MUVE page (ticket prices).
Most people who search for Doge’s Palace tickets want to know two things: whether the official ticket is enough, and whether a guided tour is worth the extra money. The short answer is that the official ticket is cheap and gets you in, but it comes with no guide; an optional audio guide gives self-paced commentary. The Palace is large, its rooms are organized by function (government, justice, the prisons), and the guide sites we read argue that a first-time visitor without a guide walks past much of the context. This article compares the official ticket with the eight guided tours on Viator that clear our quality floor: a 4.7 rating and at least 100 reviews.
Two things need saying before the numbers. First, the ticket side of this comparison is the official MUVE ticket, not a Viator product. None of the Palace entry-only listings we found on Viator reaches our floor, so every Viator product below includes Palace entry. Second, the prices are a check made on October 11, 2026, for departures from October 25 to December 23, 2026, not a 2027 schedule. We found no 2027 access fee schedule for Venice, so we do not state one. Our starting point for most first visits is the Basilica, Doge’s Palace and bell tower tour, which bundles the Basilica with the Palace and is one of five products in the list with free cancellation.
Two limits apply. The set is small on purpose: we priced the Palace products that clear the floor, not every guided tour in Venice. And the prices move. Each figure is one check on October 11, 2026, for two adults, in US dollars.
What the Official Ticket Covers, and What It Does Not
The official ticket is sold by the MUVE museum foundation, which runs the Doge’s Palace and the museums on St Mark’s Square. The page we read, checked October 11, 2026, lists a combined ticket for the St Mark’s Square museums, which includes the Palace, at EUR 35 standard and EUR 15 reduced. Buying online at EUR 30 applies only when you buy 30 or more days ahead. Closer to the date, the standard EUR 35 price applies. At an estimated rate of 1.14 dollars per euro, the prices are about $40 standard, about $17 reduced and about $34 for the advance online price. MUVE publishes in euros, so the dollar figures are approximate and the euro figures are the reference.
The Secret Itineraries, the guided route through the prisons and the hidden passages, are sold separately on the same page for about $46 (EUR 40 standard) and about $23 (EUR 20 reduced).
The official ticket buys entry, and that is all. It does not buy a guide, and the audio guide, if you take one, is a self-paced commentary. It does not cover St Mark’s Basilica, which has its own ticketing and its own queue. The bell tower is a separate paid visit as well. The guided products below are the alternative to that setup: they bundle entry to the Palace with a guide, and some add Basilica skip-the-line access.
The ticket side has no Viator product in this list, and we do not link one. We looked for a Viator ticket-only Palace listing that clears our floor of a 4.7 rating and 100 reviews. The two closest entry-only products are rated 4.39 on 98 reviews and 4.13 on 438 reviews. Neither qualifies, so the Viator side of this comparison is guided tours with entry included, and the ticket side is the official price above.
The useful question is what the rest of the price buys. The official route costs about $40 for one adult, with no guide. The cheapest guided option costs $95.92 per adult for two travelers, which is more than twice that, and it buys a local guide, a set route and Basilica skip-the-line access in some products. For a solo visitor on a tight budget, the official ticket and a good guidebook are a sensible default.

Prices and availability checked on the Viator partner API on October 11, 2026, for departures from October 25 to December 23, 2026. Prices are per adult for 2 travelers, in US dollars, and can change. « Not listed » means the free cancellation flag is absent from the listing; we do not state a policy for those three tours.
Across the eight tours, the median lowest price is $203.25 per adult for two travelers, which is about $406.50 for two. The average rating is 4.86, and the tours average about 1,739 reviews each, from 133 on the private premium tour to 6,119 on the Legendary Venice tour. The table does not include the official ticket: its prices are in euros and sit in the context section above.
The 8 Tours in Detail: Shared Groups, Semi-Private and Private

1. Basilica, Doge’s Palace, History Gallery and Bell Tower Option
It is the only tour in the list with a bell tower priority ticket as an option on top of Basilica and Palace entry. Choose it if you want skip-the-line entry to both sites in a single booking, and pay for the add-on only if the bell tower matters to you. Read the inclusions carefully. The guide is listed as an option, not as a standard part of the price. The skip-the-line entries cover the Palace and St Mark’s, the Bridge of Sighs entrance, and a ticket to two museums on the square, the Marciana Library (closed on Sundays) and the Archaeological Museum. Food and hotel pickup are not included. The meeting point is a short walk from St Mark’s Square toward the Riva degli Schiavoni, so check the exact spot in your confirmation. It is one of five products in the list with free cancellation, and it has 57 open days out of 60 in the window, so the calendar is not a real constraint.
- Palace and Basilica in one booking
- Free cancellation shown
- Confirm that the guide is included

2. Legendary Venice: Doge’s Palace and St Mark’s with Exclusive Access
This is the cheapest guided option with Palace entry in the list, and the one with the most reviews: 6,119 at 4.71. The low end of the price is $95.92 per adult, about $56 more than the official combined ticket at about $40. That gap buys a local English-speaking guide and a route that takes in the New Prisons. The inclusions also list the exterior of the Bell Tower, the exterior of the Marciana Library and optional balcony access in St Mark’s Basilica. Choose it if you want the story of the rooms at the lowest guided price. Its guide speaks English, and a Spanish-speaking guide is an option. Two cautions. The search results show no free cancellation for this tour, so read the cancellation terms in the booking. And gratuities are excluded. The meeting point is the Correr Museum on Piazza San Marco. Check the exact spot in your confirmation. The supplier text quotes an old euro price for the Palace; the price you pay is the one on the booking page.
- Local English-speaking guide
- New Prisons on the route
- No free cancellation shown

3. Venice in a Day: St Mark’s, Doge’s Palace, Gondola Ride and City Tour
Choose this when the Palace is one stop in a longer day, not the whole plan. The tour runs 240 to 360 minutes, so block at least a half-day. It adds a gondola ride and a walk through the Rialto area, with the Rialto Fish Market and the Rialto Bridge, to the Palace and St Mark’s entries. The inclusions also list a local English-speaking guide, a pre-reserved Palace ticket and the New Prisons. At $131.31 to $208.96 per adult, it costs between about 1.4 and 2.2 times the lowest guided entry, and the gap pays for the gondola and the time on the water. It is a poor pick for a reader with one free morning who wants the Palace only. Gratuities and hotel pickup are excluded. The meeting point is at the Church of San Giacometto near the Rialto, so check the exact spot in your confirmation. The search results show no free cancellation for this tour. It has 58 open days out of 60 in the window.
- Gondola ride included
- Rialto Fish Market and Rialto Bridge
- Plan a half-day or more

4. St Mark’s Basilica and Doge’s Palace with Secret Passages Access
This is the Secret Itineraries route sold through Viator, built around the passages behind the Palace’s prisons. This tour costs $124.46 per adult for two travelers, and its inclusions list a guide, skip-the-line access to St Mark’s Basilica, the New Prisons, the Hall of the Great Council and special access to the Palace’s secret itineraries. The official route costs about $46 (EUR 40 standard) on the MUVE page, which makes this listing about $78 more; compare what that route covers before you pay the difference. The dates are the problem. The product is open on only 4 of the 60 days in the window: October 27, 28, 30 and 31, 2026. If those dates do not fit your trip, choose another tour rather than moving the trip around this one. Gratuities and hotel pickup are not included, and free cancellation is not shown. The meeting point is the Correr Museum, the same as the Legendary Venice tour, so check the exact spot in your confirmation.
- Secret Itineraries route with a guide
- Only 4 open days in the window
- No free cancellation shown

5. Venice Deluxe Tour
This is the highest-rated shared tour in the list, with 4.98 across 834 reviews, and it is one of five products with free cancellation. It runs 180 to 240 minutes with a professional guide, and the inclusions promise skip-the-line entry to the Doge’s Palace and St Mark’s Basilica, with the entrance fees included. At $251.21 per adult, it costs about two and a half times the lowest guided entry, so the case rests on the guide and the rating rather than on the price. Two practical points matter. The booking is not instant, because the supplier confirms it, so leave a margin of a few days before a fixed date. And the window shows only 20 open days out of 60, so the choice of dates is narrow. The meeting point is in front of the Danieli Hotel, just off St Mark’s Square. Check the exact spot in your confirmation. Food, drinks and gratuities are not included.
- Highest rating of the shared tours
- Free cancellation shown
- Only 20 open days in the window

6. Private or Semi-Private Doge’s Palace and St Mark’s Basilica Guided Tour
Choose this when the group wants its own guide and control over the pace. The tour lasts 150 minutes and includes exclusive skip-the-line access to the Palace and to St Mark’s Basilica, plus admission to the Palace Great Halls, the Prisons, the Weapons collection and the Bridge of Sighs. Because the group sets the speed and the stops, this is the easiest option on the list for a reader who needs to take breaks or has a slower pace. The price spread, from $227.23 to $325.43 per adult, is the range across the dates we checked for two adults, so check your date before you compare it with a shared tour. The window shows all 60 days open, and free cancellation is shown. Food, drink and gratuities are not included. The meeting point is under the winged lion’s column in St Mark’s Square. Check the exact spot in your confirmation.
- Private guide for your group
- Skip-the-line for the Palace and Basilica
- Free cancellation shown

7. Doge’s Palace and St Mark’s Semi-Private Tour, Max 6 People
This tour sits between a shared group and a private one. The group is capped at six people, the tour lasts 150 minutes, and the inclusions cover skip-the-line entry to the Palace, including the apartments and the prisons, skip-the-line entry to St Mark’s Basilica, the Hall of the Great Council and the Bridge of Sighs. The lowest price is $215.81 per adult for two travelers, which is $11.42 below the lowest price of the private tour in the list. Choose it if you want a small group and a fixed route, and you do not need a guide to yourself. Free cancellation is shown, and all 60 days in the window are open. Food, drinks, hotel pickup and gratuities are excluded. The meeting point is the same as the private tour, under the winged lion’s column in St Mark’s Square. The top of the price range is $325.43 per adult, so check your date before you book.
- Six people maximum
- Apartments and prisons included
- Free cancellation shown

8. Best of Venice Private Tour: St Mark’s, Doge’s Palace and Gondola Ride
This is the premium end of the list. At $513.84 per adult, the tour costs $1,027.68 for two travelers, and it is one of four products whose price did not change on any date we checked. It runs 270 minutes with a private expert local guide, and the inclusions list skip-the-line tickets to St Mark’s Basilica and the Palace, the Doge’s prison, the Hall of the Great Council, the Campo Santa Maria Formosa and Marco Polo’s house. The inclusions list a 30-minute private gondola ride, but confirm it on the booking page. Free cancellation is shown, and 51 of 60 days are open. It has the fewest reviews of the eight, at 133, so its 4.94 rating rests on a smaller sample. Choose it when budget is not the constraint and you want a private route that takes in the Rialto side of Venice as well as the Palace. Food, drinks and optional gratuities are excluded. The meeting point is in front of the Chiesa di San Giacomo, in the Campo San Giacomo di Rialto.
- Private expert local guide
- Skip-the-line for the Basilica and Palace
- Confirm the gondola ride on the booking page

Budget for two. Two adults on the official combined ticket pay about $80 (EUR 70) at an estimated rate. Two adults on the cheapest guided tour pay $191.84 in total, at the price checked on October 11, 2026. The private premium tour costs $1,027.68 for two. The gap between the official ticket and the cheapest tour is the price of a guide and a set route, so decide whether you want that before you book.
Opening hours. The official page lists summer hours from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with the last entry at 6:00 p.m. Winter hours run from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with the last entry at 5:00 p.m. Italy switches to winter time on October 25, 2026, the first day of the window in this article. Check on the official page which schedule applies on the day you go.
Timing. Sources that cover the Palace agree on three points: book the earliest slot of the day, avoid midday, and expect a queue at the Basilica even with a skip-the-line ticket. Late October through December is quieter than summer, but weekends and the holiday period are busy. These are secondary sources, so treat them as advice rather than measured counts.
Dress code. St Mark’s Basilica asks visitors to cover their shoulders and knees. Forum posts describe visitors turned away for shorts or sleeveless tops, so pack a light layer or a scarf. The Palace has no formal dress code.
Acqua alta. In autumn and winter, parts of the Piazza can flood at high tide. Ask the supplier how the tour handles high water before you book, and do not count on a fixed route.
Access fee. Press reports from 2026 described a day-visitor fee of EUR 5 or EUR 10, depending on the day, on selected high-season days. We did not confirm those dates on the official channel, and we found no 2027 schedule, so check the Comune di Venezia site before you travel. The fee is a separate rule from the Palace ticket and the tours.
Accessibility. The historic route has stairs and uneven floors in parts, and the walk across the Piazza and the Basilica is paved and crowded. We did not find a source that confirms step-free access to the whole Palace, so do not assume it. Check the official accessibility information, and ask the supplier about the route when you book. Private and semi-private tours help most, because the group sets the pace.
Guide language. Most shared tours here run in English. The first card’s tour also offers a French-speaking guide, the second’s a Spanish-speaking one, and cards 6 and 8 offer several languages, including French and Italian. Check the guide language on your booking.
Tipping. Gratuities are excluded from most of the tours in this list. Budget a tip for a guide you liked, and check each product’s price basis before you book.
A sample morning. Book the earliest departure of a shared tour, go to the Palace and the Basilica before the crowds build, and keep the afternoon for the Rialto or a walk. If you choose a tour that starts at 9:00 a.m., check that the slot falls inside the hours on the day.
Three mistakes to avoid. Buying the official ticket and expecting a guide. Booking the Secret Itineraries tour for a date outside its four open days. Reading a euro price in a supplier’s text and assuming it is the price you will pay.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the official MUVE ticket enough for a first visit?
It is enough if you already know the history of the Republic and want to walk at your own pace. The combined ticket for the St Mark’s Square museums, which includes the Palace, costs about $40 (EUR 35 standard) at an estimated rate of 1.14 dollars per euro, and it comes with no guide. For a first visit, the guide sites we read argue that a tour serves better, because the route and the rooms are easier to follow with someone explaining the order and the purpose of each hall. That is their view, not a measured result.
Does the Doge’s Palace ticket include St Mark’s Basilica?
No. St Mark’s Basilica has its own ticketing and its own queue, and parts of the church, such as the Pala d’Oro, can carry a separate charge. Several of the Viator tours in this list include skip-the-line Basilica entry, so check the inclusions of each product. The Basilica’s official ticketing FAQ covers QR-code entry and opening hours.
Do I need to book Doge’s Palace in advance?
For the official ticket, the page we read does not show a timed-slot booking for the standard visit, but the rules can change, so check the official Palazzo Ducale page on the day you plan to go. For the Viator tours, booking ahead matters more. The Secret Itineraries tour is open on only four days of the window, and the Venice Deluxe Tour on 20 of 60. Book the earliest slot of the day where you can, since the sources we read agree that midday is the busiest time.
Which Viator tours include Doge’s Palace entry?
All eight tours in this list include entry to the Palace. Five are shared guided tours, two are private and one is semi-private. Only the Venice Deluxe Tour is not confirmed instantly, because the supplier confirms it. The inclusions differ on the Basilica, the bell tower, the gondola and the Secret Itineraries, so read the list on each card before you choose.
Why is there no ticket-only Doge’s Palace tour in this list?
None of the Palace entry-only listings on Viator reached our floor of a 4.7 rating and 100 reviews. The two closest were rated 4.39 on 98 reviews and 4.13 on 438 reviews. We did not lower the floor to fill the list. The official MUVE ticket is the reference for the ticket side, and its prices are on the official page in euros.
Is there a Venice access fee in 2027?
We found no 2027 schedule. Press reports from 2026 described a day-visitor fee of EUR 5 or EUR 10, depending on the day, on selected high-season days. We did not confirm those dates on the official channel, so check the Comune di Venezia site for the rule that applies to your date. The fee is a separate rule from the Palace ticket and the tours in this list.
Is Doge’s Palace wheelchair accessible?
We did not find a source that confirms step-free access to the whole Palace. Visitor reports describe a historic route with stairs and uneven floors in parts, and the walk across the Piazza and the Basilica is paved and crowded. Private and semi-private tours let the group set the pace, which helps. Check the official accessibility information before you visit, and ask the supplier about the route when you book.
