In the Elaphiti Islands from Dubrovnik, the date decides the boat. In November and December, two private boats stay open on the dates checked, from €125 per adult. In late October, shared cruises and small-group trips run from €40 to €56 per adult. Tip: take a shared cruise before 1 November, a private boat after.

Checked on against the Viator partner API (prices, ratings, availability).

Dubrovnik is a city to explore on foot, but the best days often start on the water. A few kilometres from the Gruž port, the Elaphiti Islands offer coves, villages that do not run to the rhythm of the cruise ships, and a few old churches. One simple question remains: which boat to take, and up to what date?

I selected eight excursions from the Viator products in Dubrovnik rated at least 4.7 with 100 reviews or more (80 products pass this filter, 291 listed in total). All are rated at least 4.84 out of 5, with an average of 4.91. The main finding changes everything: in late October, almost all the options are open; in November and December, private boats remain the safest choice, and only one shared cruise is open, for three days. If you are travelling late in the year, start with the best-rated private speedboat open on every checked date in November and December (4.98).

Prices are given per adult, for two people, always with the checked window, never as a single date. Public ferry timetables are not given: I refer you to the operators’ websites, because I could not verify them.

Why the Elaphiti Islands, and why the date matters

The Elaphiti archipelago counts thirteen islands under a recent classification, three of which are permanently inhabited: Koločep, Lopud and Šipan. It covers about thirty square kilometres and has around 850 residents in total, according to the Wikipedia page on the archipelago. It lies northwest of Dubrovnik, and that proximity makes a half-day trip as easy as a full day.

Koločep is the closest island: five kilometres from the Gruž port according to Wikipedia. The same source says it has seven pre-Romanesque churches dating from the 9th and 11th centuries. Lopud is the second largest island and has one hotel, according to Wikipedia. Šipan, the largest of the three inhabited islands, is also the only one where, according to the guides consulted, cars are in use.

Why the date matters: shared cruises, with lunch on board, are a peak-season format. Several listings say they run from April or May until October. The data checked on 18 October 2026 confirm it: over the window from 1 November to 30 December, two of the three shared cruises and both small-group trips are open on no checked date; the third cruise is open on 1, 2 and 3 November. On the late-October checked dates, from 19 to 31 October, most products are open, except the small-group boat from Lapad, which is closed in that window.

The private boats are the exception. The two private boats in cards 1 and 2 are open on every checked date in November and December. This is not a promise for a given date: it is the state of a check at one moment. Verify the date you choose on the listing before locking in your stay.

Dubrovnik Tickets notes that tours run less often from November to April. Shared cruises cluster in peak season; after October, only private boats stay open on the checked dates, apart from three November days for one cruise. The other readings, the Blue Cave or the public ferry, come after, because they change the decision.

The 8 excursions compared: price, rating and open days

The table lists the eight listings in the order they appear below. The price is per adult, for two people, for each checked window. A « closed on checked dates » cell means none of the sample dates was open; a « not measured » cell means the window was not queried. Availability is sampled on test dates, not on every day.

Prices and availability checked on the Viator partner API on 18 October 2026 for the periods 19 to 31 October 2026 and 1 November to 30 December 2026 (2 adults), by sampling test dates; they may change.

The first question is the date. Before 1 November, shared cruises and small groups are the cheapest, from €40 to €56 per adult. From November, the choice narrows almost entirely to private boats, except for three days on a shared cruise (1 to 3 November). The second question is the format: number of passengers, lunch, duration. The cards below detail each case.

1. Private speedboat, open in November and December

Rating 4.98 (708 reviews) 4 to 8 hours €167.50 per adult (based on 2 people) Instant confirmation Private tour

This is the listing I would put first for a reader travelling in November. It has a rating of 4.98 out of 5 from 708 reviews, the highest of the two private boats open on every checked date in November and December (card 2 shows 4.91 from 180 reviews). The format is a private speedboat: your group books the boat for itself, without sharing it with other travellers. The price checked is €167.50 per adult for two people, the same in the late-October window, which simplifies the maths if you are torn between the two periods. The exact itinerary, stops and swims included, is confirmed with the operator before departure: the listing gives a duration of four to eight hours, to be confirmed when you book.

  • Open on every checked date in November and December 2026
  • Free cancellation under the rule shown on the listing
  • Same price in late October, on the checked window

2. Private boat, caves and snorkelling

Rating 4.91 (180 reviews) 4 to 8 hours €125 per adult (based on 2 people) Instant confirmation Private tour

If you want a boat to yourself but a budget a little lower than the private speedboat, this is the one. The price checked is €125 per adult for two people, and the listing is open on every checked date in November and December. The programme mixes island exploration, the search for hidden caves and snorkelling: it suits someone who wants to swim and look around more than someone looking for lunch on board. The departure point is not a quay but your hotel. Pickup is from a list provided by the operator, and the meeting point is still to be confirmed. Check that your hotel is on the list before you pay. I did not record a late-October price for this listing, because that window was not measured: ask the operator, and do not infer it from the other cards.

  • Open on every checked date in November and December
  • Snorkelling and cave search announced
  • Hotel pickup, from a provided list

3. Half-day private tour, 4 hours, hotel pickup

Rating 4.99 (347 reviews) 4 hours €157.50 per adult (based on 2 people) Instant confirmation Private tour

If you only have a half day, this is the option that gets to the essentials. The listing gives four hours, hotel pickup and a rating of 4.99 out of 5, the best in the comparison, from more than 300 reviews. In late October the checked dates show the same price, €157.50 per adult for two people. The trap would be to compare it with the price of a lunch cruise without looking at the duration. Here you pay for a boat to yourself, for a half day. For a couple who want a swim and a cove and nothing more, the maths works. The prices checked are for two people: review the listing with your exact number of travellers before booking.

4. Day cruise with Regina Maris

Rating 4.84 (6944 reviews) 8 hours €51 to €61 per adult (based on 2 people), 1-3 Nov. Instant confirmation

This is one of the three shared cruises in the comparison, with more than 6900 reviews and a rating of 4.84 out of 5. The boat is a large white ship: the listing asks you to look for it at the Dubrovnik port, with no further detail. The format is the classic cruise, a full day on board with lunch included according to the title, and the islands seen from the sea. The price checked on the three November days ranges from €51 to €61 per adult depending on the date. In late October, the checked dates show €51 per adult, or €102 for two. The trap is booking without checking the date, because the three days do not repeat. The duration is eight hours: if you mainly want to swim, a shorter format will be more comfortable.

  • Lunch included, according to the listing title
  • Open on 1, 2 and 3 November on the check
  • Late October: checked dates open

5. Small-group speedboat to Lopud and Šunj

Rating 4.90 (3203 reviews) 4 hours €42 per adult (based on 2 people), late Oct. Instant confirmation

This small-group speedboat combines caves and the Šunj beach, on Lopud. It is rated 4.90 out of 5 from more than 3200 reviews. The check shows it closed on the November and December dates checked, and open only on the late-October dates checked, at €42 per adult. The meeting point depends on the time slot: the pier of the Mlini port, or the large pier of the old town port. The listing gives a morning departure at 9:30 am, depending on the slot.

  • Caves and Šunj beach on Lopud, as announced
  • Blue Cave (Biševo) possible, depending on the slot
  • Open on the late-October dates checked only

6. Small group to the caves, from Lapad

Rating 4.94 (474 reviews) 4 hours Price not shown: closed on the windows checked Instant confirmation

This listing has a rating of 4.94 out of 5 from 474 reviews, and an interesting format: a small-group speedboat leaving from the Lapad marina. It cannot be booked on the dates checked: no late-October date and no November or December date is open. Keep it in mind if your dates fall outside these windows, and check the listing. I therefore show no price: a figure without an open date would mean nothing. The meeting point, according to the listing, is the last wooden pier of the small Lapad marina.

  • Closed on the checked November and December dates

7. Lunch cruise, the most reviewed

Rating 4.89 (10656 reviews) 8 hours €40 per adult (based on 2 people), late Oct. Instant confirmation

This is the most reviewed day cruise in the comparison, with more than 10600 reviews and a rating of 4.89 out of 5. It leaves from Gruž, the port of Dubrovnik, and the listing gives a 9:00 am departure, with check-in ten minutes before. The format is a day trip with lunch on board. This is the lowest fare in the late-October window: €40 per adult for two people, or €80 in total. But it is also a reading trap: on the November and December check, no date is open. If your trip falls after 31 October, it does not concern you. If you are in Dubrovnik in late October and the weather holds, it is a reassuring choice given the volume of reviews. Arrive early: the listing asks you to be there ten minutes before departure.

  • Lunch on board, according to the listing title
  • Departure from Gruž, check-in ten minutes before
  • Late October only: checked dates open

8. Lunch, drinks and swim cruise

Rating 4.84 (2501 reviews) 8 to 10 hours €56 per adult (based on 2 people), late Oct. Instant confirmation

This cruise adds drinks and a swim to the classic format, according to the listing title. It is rated 4.84 out of 5 from more than 2500 reviews, level with the card 4 cruise (4.84, 6944 reviews) and below the card 7 cruise (4.89). Departure is from the Gruž green market, with check-in at 10:00 am according to the listing, the boat being moored opposite the market. It has the longest duration in the comparison, eight to ten hours: it is a full day. The price checked in late October is €56 per adult for two people, or €112, the highest of the shared cruises in this window. On November and December, no checked date is open: if this day tempts you, it has to happen before 31 October. Compared with the card 7 cruise, the real difference is drinks and swimming, not lunch.

  • Drinks and swim, according to the listing title
  • Check-in at 10:00 am at the Gruž green market
  • Late October only: closed on the later checked dates

Practical tips on site

Where you board. The meeting point depends on the listing. Three listings mention Gruž: card 7 (boat moored next to the bus stop, 9:00 am departure), card 8 (green market, check-in at 10:00 am) and card 1 (one of the possible boarding points). The others leave from Mlini or the old town (card 5), from the Lapad marina (card 6), from the Dubrovnik port (card 4), or from your hotel (cards 2 and 3). Read the meeting point in your confirmation before you travel.

The public Jadrolinija ferry. Jadrolinija line 831 serves Koločep, Lopud and Suđurađ on Šipan, from the Gruž quay. Timetables are published as a PDF and vary by season. I did not check the departure times or fares for this article: the published document was not readable in my search. Check the exact day of your sailing on the Jadrolinija website before you leave.

Šunj on foot from Lopud. Šunj beach is reached on foot from the village of Lopud, along a forest path, in about 25 minutes of walking. An electric buggy taxi also covers the trip, according to sources. The main section, protected by a breakwater, is a sandy beach with shallow water, and dogs are allowed during the day. Facilities vary by source and are not detailed here. Check the operator’s listing for what you will find on site. Some services close in winter, so check before counting on them.

Caves, weather and entry. Operator listings say that visiting the caves depends on the weather, and that a south-east wind, the jugo, can close a cave. This information comes from commercial listings, not from an official source. Several listings mention an entry fee payable on site: its amount varies by source and is not verified here. Ask the operator. Some listings also mention free cancellation up to twenty-four hours before the trip: check this against the listing you choose.

Cruise crowds. Large cruise ships call at Dubrovnik and add to daytime crowds, especially in the old town and on the quays. Sources on docking limits do not agree, and I am not quoting any figure here. What matters for your day is simpler: morning departures leave more time for the visit, and I recommend choosing them.

Mistakes to avoid. A few pitfalls come up often in bookings:

  • Booking a shared cruise in November without checking the calendar, since almost all the open dates fall in October.
  • Relying on a public ferry timetable that has not been checked on the operator’s site.
  • Paying before copying the cancellation rule shown on the listing.

Weather and clothing. Bring a windproof layer, shoes that grip wet pontoons and a towel for swimming. On the day of the trip, keep your phone charged so you receive the operator’s messages.

Frequently asked questions

Which excursion should I choose in the Elaphiti Islands in November?

In November and December 2026, the two private boats in cards 1 and 2 are the only ones open on every checked date. The private speedboat in card 1, rated 4.98 out of 5 from 708 reviews, is booked at €167.50 per adult for two people. A more affordable option exists: the private boat at €125 per adult, which picks travellers up at their hotel and offers snorkelling. See the speedboat.

Can I still take a shared cruise after 1 November?

On the check of 18 October 2026, hardly. Between 1 November and 30 December, two shared cruises are open on no checked date, and the third, the Regina Maris cruise, is open on 1, 2 and 3 November. The two small-group trips are open on no checked date in this window. If your stay falls in November or December, look at the private formats first, then check the exact date on the listing before you book.

How much does an Elaphiti Islands excursion from Dubrovnik cost?

The price depends on the window and the format. In late October, a lunch cruise or a small-group speedboat costs €40 to €56 per adult for two people. In November and December, the only shared cruise still open costs €51 to €61 per adult, from 1 to 3 November, and private boats show €125 to €167.50. These amounts date from 18 October 2026: compare the lines in the table.

Is the Blue Cave on one of the Elaphiti Islands?

No. The Blue Cave described by Wikipedia is on Biševo, an island of the Vis archipelago, off the Elaphiti archipelago and not inside it. Two listings in the comparison advertise a « Blue Cave » or caves: the trip may include the Blue Cave on Biševo, which lies off the Elaphiti archipelago. Ask the operator whether it is part of your slot, because access depends on the weather and the sea.

Can I reach Lopud and Šunj without booking a boat?

Yes, with the public Jadrolinija 831 ferry from the Gruž quay, which serves Koločep, Lopud and Šipan. From the village of Lopud, Šunj beach is reached on foot in about 25 minutes along a forest path. Timetables and fares are not given here: they change with the season and must be checked on the operator’s website before you leave.

Should I book in advance, and can I cancel?

All eight listings in the comparison show instant confirmation and free cancellation. The exact rule, its deadline and its percentage, is shown on each listing and must be copied before you pay. Because open dates change from one week to the next, book as soon as your date shows as available, and keep the operator’s written confirmation for the day of departure.
