The Hochfilzen 2026 biathlon competitions take place from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 December 2026 at the Biathlonarena, in the Austrian Tyrol. Thursday 3 December is a training day, and the organiser’s programme is subject to change. Hochfilzen station is served by line 201.
Checked on against the official sources cited (organiser, international federation, tourist office, then third-party sites flagged as such).
Want to watch a World Cup biathlon race in Hochfilzen? Three questions come up again and again: which day to go, how much tickets cost and how to reach the Biathlonarena without a car. This article answers each one with what the organiser publishes on the date of checking, no invented figures, and flags what still needs confirming before you leave.
Which day to go: the competitions run 4 to 6 December

Biathlonarena Hochfilzen
The organiser’s official programme, Biathlon Hochfilzen, lists a training session on Thursday 3 December 2026, then the competitions from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 December. Official organiser programme (checked 2 November 2026). The header of this page also shows « 02.12. – 06.12.2026 », but no race is linked to 2 December: we don’t count it as a competition day.
If you read « 3 to 6 December » elsewhere, the writer has mixed the training day with the three competition days. To plan your trip, keep the 4 to 6 December window. 3 December is a training day, not a race, and public access to the training has not been verified.
Highlights
- Friday 4 December: first day of competition
- Saturday 5 December: competition day
- Sunday 6 December: last day, end of the competition window
The Viator check from 2 November 2026 covers 4, 5 and 6 December. In Innsbruck (airport about 121 km away, a rough distance), the e-bike tour below costs €115 per adult for a 10:00 start. Its listing gives a duration of 240 minutes. This is not an activity in Hochfilzen.
The table below sets out the programme as the organiser publishes it. Start times for each race should be checked on the official page, as they remain subject to change.
| Day | Date | Type | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thursday | 3 December 2026 | Training | Not counted as a race in the programme |
| Friday | 4 December 2026 | First competition day | Start times to check on the official page |
| Saturday | 5 December 2026 | Competition day | Times per race to check on the official page |
| Sunday | 6 December 2026 | Last competition day | End of the competition window |
| Note | 2 December 2026 | No race listed | Shown in the programme header, not explained |

World Biathlon, the international federation, places Hochfilzen in a World Cup block running from 30 November to 6 December 2026 on its venue page (checked 2 November 2026). No race on 30 November or 1 December appears in the organiser’s competition programme: don’t plan your trip around those dates for a race.
Tickets: categories and the Generalkarte
Which ticket to choose in Hochfilzen
The organiser offers six categories, described on its ticket categories page (checked 2 November 2026):
- Seated: seated grandstand, access to the main area.
- Tribune A: covered grandstand, on the finish area side.
- Tribune B: grandstand, mid-range category.
- Strecke: standing area along the course.
- VIP: premium offer.
- Generalkarte: named general ticket, valid for each of the three competition days.
The official ticket shop is ticket-onlineshop.com, linked from the organiser’s website.
What to keep in mind
- The Generalkarte is named to its holder and valid per day for the three competition days
- The official price list separates adult and child fares; the amounts are not repeated here
- Reductions for people with disabilities exist, but the thresholds differ between pages
The organiser publishes its prices in a PDF price list (« Kartenpreise 2026 ») that we could not read, so the amounts are not repeated here. Check the official price page before you buy, and only buy from the official ticket shop.
On disability reductions, the organiser’s two pages don’t say the same thing. The price page gives 50% from a 50% disability rate, while the programme page gives 60% from 60%. Don’t take our word for it: ask the organiser for the exact rule before you buy.
Getting there: train, Öffi-Eventticket, shuttle and car
The train is still the simplest option
Line 201 serves Hochfilzen station. From Innsbruck or Salzburg, plan on a change: we did not time the journey with 2026 timetables. The Öffi-Eventticket gives access to public transport on competition day, and that day only. We did not check its price or how to buy it, and the source doesn’t say whether it is sold with the Generalkarte: check before you travel.
| Mode | What to know | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Train, line 201 | Serves Hochfilzen station | Verified (regional pages and ÖBB) |
| Öffi-Eventticket | Public transport, competition day only | Price and purchase method not checked |
| Öffi-Eventticket exclusions | Railjet, IC, EC, WESTbahn, Innsbruck Kernzone | Verified (organiser’s access page) |
| Spectator shuttle | Departures announced from the Pillerseetal and Saalfelden/Leogang | Price not checked; 2026 timetable not published |
| Car | Innsbruck airport about 121 km, Salzburg airport about 110 km, Munich airport about 179 km | Rough distances, parking not priced |
Source: organiser’s access and shuttle pages, checked 2 November 2026; distances come from transfer comparison sites and are for guidance only.
The shuttle price was not found on the pages we checked, and its 2026 timetable was not published on the check date. Don’t plan your return on a shuttle until it is listed.
If you are driving, the distances in the table give a rough idea, not a timed route. Parking near the Biathlonarena was not located or priced on the pages we checked: ask the organiser. For the road, our Austrian vignette guide covers the details.
December weather: what we can say without a forecast
Hochfilzen sits at 959 m altitude according to tyrol.com (checked 2 November 2026), although another source gives 1,000 m. The municipality records an average of about 635 cm of snow a year, with an average maximum depth of about 121 cm and about 140 snow days. These are published averages, not forecasts for December 2026.
December averages, taken from aggregated, unofficial climate sites, give about 1 °C during the day (third-party average, not official) and -7 °C at night, for about 119 mm of rain over the month. These are benchmarks, not forecasts for December 2026.
| Indicator | Value | Type of data |
|---|---|---|
| Altitude | 959 m (another source gives 1,000 m) | Figure published by tyrol.com |
| Average annual snow | About 635 cm | Published average, not a forecast |
| Average maximum depth | About 121 cm | Published average |
| Snow days per year | About 140 | Published average |
| December, day and night | About 1 °C by day (third-party average, not official), -7 °C at night | Third-party average, not official |
| December rainfall | About 119 mm | Third-party average, not official |
Source: tyrol.com, Hochfilzen weather, checked 2 November 2026; December averages come from third-party climate sites.
Pack for nights around -7 °C and for long hours outdoors, and bring a waterproof layer: third-party averages give about 119 mm of rain across the month. Check the seven-day forecast before you leave, as no reliable forecast for December 2026 exists at the check date.
Where to stay: Hochfilzen, nearby villages or a base further away
Hochfilzen has places to stay. Two sources list them, without prices: the Fairhotel Hochfilzen offers a five-night package on Kurzurlaub.de, undated. Check that it covers 4 to 6 December before you book. The Edelweiss Hotel is listed on the Fieberbrunn portal. Neither has a verified price for the competition, so we quote no figure.
The Pillerseetal villages, such as Fieberbrunn, can work as a fallback if Hochfilzen is fully booked. Their accommodation has not been checked one by one, and the distance to the Biathlonarena has not been measured on foot.
Innsbruck airport is about 121 km from Hochfilzen (a rough distance), and the city has trains. The daily trip to the Biathlonarena has not been timed with 2026 timetables, so check it before you choose this base. For a more urban base, our guide to Christmas in Salzburg 2026 is one option; Salzburg airport is about 110 km away (a rough distance).
Depending on you: which programme to choose
You’re coming for the competition
Pick the competition day you want to see, then the category that fits your budget. Compare the categories on the official price list before you buy.
Travelling as a family
The official price list separates adult and child fares: read it line by line on the price page. The Generalkarte is named, so each person who wants one needs their own. Our Grand-Bornand biathlon guide is published separately.
Keeping the budget tight
The main levers are the day you pick and the category: the official price list gives the figures, and we don’t repeat them here. The line 201 train needs a separate calculation: since the Öffi-Eventticket price was not checked, compare the total cost of the trip (train, accommodation, meals) before you book.
Coming for the skiing too
Hochfilzen does not appear in the sources we checked for slopes. If you combine the biathlon with skiing, check the opening dates of the resorts you are aiming for separately.
Limited mobility
The accessibility of the Biathlonarena for people with reduced mobility has not been verified. Contact the organiser before you buy to ask about access, suitable seating and disability reduction conditions.
Budget: the costs to work out before you leave
A precise budget means pricing each item from a dated source. Here is what to pin down, with what we know on the check date.
- Tickets. No amounts here: the « Kartenpreise 2026 » price list could not be read (see the tickets section). Price each category and each day on the official price page, per person, before you leave.
- Transport. Outside competition day, the line 201 train is paid separately. On competition day, whether the Öffi-Eventticket covers the trip is not settled: its price and purchase method were not checked.
- Shuttle. The price was not found on the pages we checked, and the 2026 timetable is not published.
- Accommodation. No dated rate for December 2026 has been verified. Compare several nights and several villages.
What a competition day looks like
The outline below shows no times, because start times are not fixed. It is a template for planning your day once you have checked the programme.
- The day before. Check the official programme and the start times, as the page says it is « subject to change ».
- In the morning. Take the line 201 train. If you have an Öffi-Eventticket, check that it covers your journey: its price and purchase method were not checked. Leave a margin, since the connection from Innsbruck or Salzburg has not been timed.
- Before the first race. Bring your Generalkarte, which is named. The entry check rule has not been verified: ask the organiser before the day, and find your seat category.
- During the day. The FanVillage and FanHalle zones, flagged by the Pillerseetal tourist office, can be a place to rest. Their opening hours are not published.
- Going home. Check the shuttle or train times before the race ends. The 2026 shuttle timetable was not published on the check date.
What other guides don’t tell you: the disability reduction
The organiser does not settle the rule for the disability reduction. Its price page gives 50% from a 50% disability rate, and its programme page gives 60% from 60% (pages checked 2 November 2026). Ask the organiser for the exact rule before you buy.
