Nine tours leave from Paris or Tours for the Loire castles in November and December 2026, from €199 to €765 per adult for two travelers. Six depart from Paris, three from Tours or Amboise. Ratings range from 4.57 to 4.94 out of 5. The cheapest: a 9-hour day starting in Tours or Amboise.

Checked on via the Viator partner API (prices, ratings, availability).

Seen from Paris, the Loire Valley can be done in a single day, as long as you choose the right tour. Between private tours, small groups and departures from Tours or Amboise, the choice is wide, and the price for two adults varies by almost four times. For this article, I went through the nine tours that open between November 1 and December 30, 2026, based on Viator partner API data from October 18, 2026. None was picked on its rating alone.

Why this winter window? Because the two best-rated products in the snapshot (4.91 and 4.86) are not open in November and December. A visit to Chambord and Chenonceau with lunch at a private château, rated 4.91 out of 5 from 460 reviews, opens no day between November 1 and December 30: its season ends on October 31. So I set aside the seasonal products and kept those you can book this autumn and winter. The resulting ranking is not a typical top 10. The rating matters, but the number of reviews and availability weigh just as much.

If I had to keep only one, it would be the château and Loire wine visit from Paris, with skip-the-line entry and hotel pickup, featured in second position. It combines a 4.86 rating out of 5 from 72 reviews, a skip-the-line entry listed on the tour page, and free cancellation confirmed by the snapshot. It costs €279 per person, which does not make it the cheapest, but it is the strongest Paris offer on these criteria.

For a tighter budget, the day from Tours or Amboise at €199 per person remains the benchmark. It requires two things: accepting a manual confirmation, and reaching the gateway town by train, which is easy from Paris with a TGV of about one hour and ten to one hour and twenty minutes. For a private trip, prices range from €495 to €765 per person, depending on the departure point and the itinerary.

Why visit the Loire castles from Paris, even in winter

The Loire Valley holds an exceptional share of French Renaissance architecture. Chambord, the largest château in the valley, was built for François I and remains the most requested stop on these tours. The official château website publishes its opening hours year by year. Chenonceau, for its part, spans the Cher with its gallery and gardens, and appears in most of the itineraries retained here.

Amboise is a royal residence overlooking the Loire. The château houses the Saint-Hubert chapel, where Leonardo da Vinci rests; he spent his last years at the nearby Clos Lucé manor. The Clos Lucé opening hours you find online mostly come from third-party guides: I am not repeating them here, since I could not confirm them on the official site.

The valley is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. I am not giving an inscription date: the sources I checked disagree, and the official listing was not accessible at the time of research.

Why leave from Paris? The capital remains the most convenient starting point for most travelers. According to the timetables I checked, the TGV links Paris Montparnasse directly to Tours in about 1 hour 10 to 1 hour 20. Watch the station, though: some trains arrive at Saint-Pierre-des-Corps, Tours’ TGV station, not at Tours city-center station. Connections to Tours easily exceed two hours and twenty minutes, which noticeably lengthens the day.

Why winter? Because five products in the snapshot, including the best-rated ones, run from April to October and open no day between November and December. Several half-day tours from Tours, such as those to Villandry or Azay-le-Rideau, are closed from November to December. The châteaux themselves stay open, and several tours run through the end of the year, provided you choose products scheduled for this season. That is the approach of this article: showing what you can actually book for November and December 2026, and under which conditions.

The competition is mostly made up of ticket resellers. Headout, Musement, Hellotickets, Magpie and Trip.com hold the top search positions for these tours. Their pages describe the program well, but give neither a dated price for a given day nor the number of open days over a period. That is the gap this article aims to fill.

1. Loire Valley castles, wine tasting and pickup from Paris

Rating 4.91 (28 reviews) About 11 hours €279 per adult (based on 2) Instant confirmation

This is the best-rated tour departing from Paris, at 4.91 out of 5, although it has only 28 reviews. It suits travelers who want two castles in the valley and a wine tasting without planning the trip themselves. The program is one long day of about eleven hours, which leaves little room if you have a train to catch in the evening. Pickup is at your Paris hotel, about 30 to 60 minutes before the stated time, and the exact time is only given at reconfirmation: stay reachable the day before. The listing mentions a small group, but the figure differs between sources, so I am not repeating it here. Ask for the exact number of participants before paying if group size matters to you. The snapshot shows a standard policy, with a full refund if you cancel at least 24 hours before the visit; it does not mention free cancellation.

2. Skip-the-line entry, wine tasting and hotel pickup

Rating 4.86 (72 reviews) 10 to 13 hours €279 per adult (based on 2) Instant confirmation

This is the tour I recommend first, because it combines a 4.86 rating out of 5 from 72 reviews, availability on 60 of 60 days, and free cancellation in the snapshot. The listing includes skip-the-line entry to the tickets, a real advantage when queues build up at the entrances. The program pairs a visit to a valley château with a tasting at a local cellar, with up to five glasses of wine according to the listing, and bottled water. Duration varies between ten and thirteen hours depending on the day’s schedule. The point to watch is pickup: it happens at your Paris hotel, about 30 to 60 minutes before the announced time, and the exact time is only given at reconfirmation. Leave yourself a margin in the morning and do not book a return train that is too tight. The snapshot classifies the tour as small group, but the technical cap shown is 15 travelers: ask for the exact number before paying. Free cancellation appears in the October 18 snapshot, which leaves you a way out if your plans change.

3. VIP private visit with round-trip transport from Paris

Rating 4.79 (38 reviews) 13 hours €765 per adult (based on 2) Instant confirmation Private tour

This is the most upscale tour in the comparison, and it is justified in one case: you want a private vehicle, round-trip transport from Paris included, and a program that does not depend on a group. At €765 per person, or €1,530 for two adults, it costs more than twice the small-group tour at €329 per person. The snapshot shows 59 open days out of 60 in the window, which makes it one of the most available. The listing describes a visit to the house and tomb of Leonardo da Vinci, a stop at Chambord and Chenonceau, and promises plenty of free time in all three châteaux. I would pick it for a couple who want to avoid fixed schedules, or for a small group sharing the cost of the vehicle. The departure point in Paris is not published and is confirmed at booking: prepare your questions for the operator. The snapshot shows free cancellation, which partly offsets the price if your dates are not yet fixed.

4. Three castles in private, tickets included and door-to-door pickup

Rating 4.74 (32 reviews) 13 hours €595 per adult (based on 2) Instant confirmation Private tour

This private tour stands out for what it covers. Entrance tickets are included, and pickup is at your door, from any Paris address. For a traveler who does not want to look for a station or a meeting point, that is a concrete advantage, and it weighs on the price. The listing describes a Mercedes minivan or a Mercedes E220 and a thirteen-hour day, longer than most other products in the comparison. The program covers three castles: Chenonceau, Amboise and Chambord. The title also mentions a wine tasting, with no detail in the snapshot: check when it takes place, because it changes the pace of the day. At €595 per person, or €1,190 for two adults, it sits between the small-group visit and the VIP visit. With 32 reviews, the 4.74 rating still needs to be confirmed over time. The snapshot shows a standard policy, with a full refund if you cancel at least 24 hours before the visit; it does not mention free cancellation.

5. Small group of up to eight, lunch in Amboise, 6:50 a.m. meeting

Rating 4.62 (90 reviews) 12 hours €329.27 per adult (based on 2) Instant confirmation, then manual for some dates

At 4.62 out of 5 from 90 reviews, it sits near the bottom of the snapshot, behind card 9 (4.57, 177 reviews), the only one lower. It suits travelers who want a small group, eight people at most according to the listing, without paying the price of a private vehicle. Lunch in Amboise is included, and the program covers Chambord and Chenonceau. The meeting point is at 6:50 a.m. in front of the Le Maillot brasserie on Avenue de la Grande Armée, in Paris 8th arrondissement, near metro line 1: arrive before the time. The weak point is availability. The snapshot shows only 8 open days out of 60 in the window from November 1 to December 30, 2026, so choose your date first and book early. Confirmation starts instantly, then becomes manual for some dates. The snapshot shows a standard policy, with a full refund if you cancel at least 24 hours before the visit; it does not mention free cancellation.

6. Guided small-group day, departure from Paris at 7:15 a.m.

Rating 4.62 (68 reviews) 13 hours €218 to €219 per adult (based on 2) Instant confirmation

It leaves a little after card 5 (meeting at 6:50 a.m.): departure at 7:15 a.m., with arrival strictly at 7:00 a.m. according to the listing. It is operated by FRANCE TOURISME, in an air-conditioned minivan for up to eight people. The program covers Chenonceau, Chambord and Cheverny, and the listing specifies that entrance tickets to all three châteaux and their gardens are included. The guide presents each château from the outside, then leaves you to visit the interior at your own pace: a good balance if you want context without being led. The price, €218 to €219 per person depending on the date, sits just after the day from Tours at €199. The meeting point is the operator’s point in Paris, with no precise address in the listing: ask for it when you book. The snapshot shows only 28 open days out of 60, so plan a backup date. The snapshot shows a standard policy, with a full refund if you cancel at least 24 hours before the visit; it does not mention free cancellation.

7. Private visit with official guide, from Tours or Amboise

Rating 4.94 (17 reviews) 9 hours €495 per adult (based on 2) Manual confirmation, response time not published Private tour

The 4.94 rating is the highest in the comparison, but it rests on only 17 reviews, and I say so upfront so you can weigh it properly. This is a private visit with an official guide, covering Chenonceau and Chambord in nine hours. The departure is from Tours or Amboise, confirmed at booking: this is the option to consider if you arrive by TGV in Tours, since the roughly 1 hour 10 to 1 hour 20 trip from Paris replaces a round trip by vehicle from the capital. The price is €495 per person, or €990 for two, and the snapshot shows free cancellation. Confirmation is manual and the listing does not publish a response time: do not assume a place will be confirmed the same day, and keep a fallback for key dates. The meeting point is specified when you book.

8. Chenonceau and Chambord in a small group, from Tours or Amboise

Rating 4.79 (39 reviews) 9 hours €199 per adult (based on 2) Manual confirmation, response time not published

This is the entry price of the comparison: €199 per person for two adults, for a day covering two major castles in the valley. Departure is at 9:30 a.m. from the Amboise tourist office, or at 9:00 a.m. from the Tours tourist office, depending on the booking. The group is limited to eight travelers according to the snapshot, for a nine-hour day. This choice has a drawback: confirmation is manual, as with the previous private visit, so I would reserve it for dates that are not fixed. The snapshot shows free cancellation, which limits the risk if confirmation takes a while. For a traveler arriving by train, the simplest option is the regional TER between Saint-Pierre-des-Corps and Amboise, about twelve minutes according to the timetables, arriving a few minutes before 9:30 a.m. Check the day’s timetable on SNCF Connect before buying your train ticket. The listing mentions Chenonceau and Chambord, with a discovery of Amboise; the exact program, including a possible wine tasting, is to be confirmed when booking.

9. Chenonceau, Chambord and tasting at the Ambacia cellars

Rating 4.57 (177 reviews) 9 hours €239 per adult (based on 2) Instant confirmation

I keep this tour for a reason that seems to count against it: 177 travelers rated it, and their average of 4.57 out of 5 is the lowest on the list. It is a less flattering but more solid judgment than a high rating from a handful of reviews. The program combines Chenonceau and Chambord with a tasting of Vouvray wines at the Ambacia cellars, in an air-conditioned minivan and with a professional guide. Departure is in front of the Amboise tourist office at 9:30 a.m., or in front of the Tours office at 9:00 a.m., depending on the booking. The group has eight people at most. The price of €239 per person sits between the €199 day and the €495 private visit. Out of the 60 days in the window, 53 are open, which makes it one of the most available tours in the selection: a good option if your dates are flexible. The snapshot shows free cancellation.

Practical tips: trains, year-end hours and budget

Train first. For departures from Tours or Amboise, the trip is by TGV from Paris, then by TER. A regional TER links Amboise and Saint-Pierre-des-Corps in about 12 minutes. The SNCF Connect listing shows about twenty trains a day on this line, with a first departure around 6:57 a.m. (July 2026 listing). A trip between Chenonceaux and Amboise with a change at Saint-Pierre-des-Corps takes about 1 hour 40 minutes according to the same listing, which matters if you want to visit both châteaux without a vehicle. The times quoted date from July and September 2026: reconfirm them on the day you book, and leave a margin rather than a train that is just on time.

Chenonceau. The château is open all year. Its hours change from one fortnight to the next in November and December. The Tours tourist office lists hours from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the start of the period, then longer hours from mid-December. For late December, I refer you to the tourist office’s official page rather than to a single time: two sources disagree on the closing time for that period.

Chambord. The château is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from October 26 to December 18, then from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. from December 19 to 31. It closes on December 25 and January 1. December 25 falls within the comparison window: a tour that stops at Chambord that day cannot go in there, so ask the operator for a replacement program before paying. The official page does not plan a Monday closure in November and December. The château’s group brochure also mentions early closing at 4 p.m. on December 24 and 31. I could not check this on the official page: confirm it if your visit falls on those days.

Christmas and seasonal programs. Christmas offers at the châteaux are not in this comparison, because they only cover part of the season. A program along the lines of « Christmas in the Land of Castles » ran from late November to early January, and a 2026-2027 pass is announced from November 28, 2026 to January 3, 2027. If this interests you, check dates and prices on the châteaux’s websites.

Amboise. I could not confirm a winter schedule for the Château d’Amboise. For Clos Lucé, I am not giving any hours since I have no official confirmation: check the manor’s website before planning a visit after lunch.

Budget. The price per person ranges from €199 to €765 for two adults. Depending on the case, add: entrance fees (already included in the listings for cards 4 and 6, to be checked for the others), lunch if it is not on the program, the trip to Tours if you leave Paris by train, and any tips for the guide. To compare two offers fairly, always bring the price back to the person and to the same number of travelers: listings do not always show prices the same way.

Depending on your profile. For families, the 9-hour departures from Tours or Amboise are the shortest on the list, and the snapshot gives no children’s rate per product: ask before booking. For a first trip, the skip-the-line visit limits waiting at the ticket desks. For a couple who want a private experience, the three private tours are the most consistent. On a small budget, the €199 day is the cheapest, provided you accept a manual confirmation. For a traveler with reduced mobility, none of the listings in the snapshot describes accessibility: ask the operator before paying.

Three mistakes to avoid. The first is booking a return train that is too tight after a 13-hour day. The second is treating a manual-confirmation tour as instant: cards 7 and 8 give no response time, and card 5 becomes manual depending on the date. The third is choosing a Tours departure thinking it leaves from Tours city-center station, when some TGV trains arrive at Saint-Pierre-des-Corps, Tours’ TGV station, not at the city-center station.

Frequently asked questions

Which tour from Paris is the best rated?

The best-rated departure from Paris is the visit with wine tasting and pickup, at 4.91 out of 5, but it has only 28 reviews. For more depth, the Loire castles and wine visit with skip-the-line entry, at 4.86 out of 5 from 72 reviews, is the one I recommend first. It costs €279 per adult for two travelers, and the snapshot shows free cancellation. Both listings are detailed in cards 1 and 2.

How long does a Loire castles tour last?

The tours in the comparison last between 9 and 13 hours. The three departures from Tours or Amboise last 9 hours, the wine tasting and pickup visit from Paris lasts about 11 hours, and the most complete private or guided visits reach 13 hours. A 13-hour tour from Paris starts early in the morning: check the pickup time in the listing before booking your return train.

Can you visit Chambord on December 25?

No. Château de Chambord closes on December 25 and January 1, according to its official page. The comparison window ends on December 30, but it does include December 25. If you book a tour for that date, ask the operator how it replaces Chambord before paying. On December 24 and 31, the group brochure announces early closing, to be confirmed on the château’s website.

Should you book early for November and December?

Yes, especially for the small-group visit with lunch in Amboise, which opens only 8 days out of 60 in the window, and for the guided day at €218 or €219 per person, which opens 28 out of 60. The other tours have at least 53 open days out of 60. The snapshot does not say how many spots remain per date: choose your day first, then find the tour that opens it.

What is the difference between a private tour and a small-group tour?

On a private tour, the vehicle and guide are reserved for your group alone, and the program follows your preferences more closely, at a higher price. Three tours in the comparison are private: the VIP visit with round-trip transport, the three-castle visit with door-to-door pickup, and the visit with an official guide from Tours or Amboise. The other six are shared tours, whose group size varies by listing, between eight travelers and a higher cap. Check the exact figure before booking if group size matters to you.

Which confirmation should you expect for each tour?

Six tours have instant confirmation: cards 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 9. The small-group visit to Amboise is instant at first, then becomes manual depending on the date. The official guide visits and the €199 tour need manual confirmation, with no published response time. If you need an immediate answer, choose a tour with instant confirmation.

Are the castles open in November and December?

Yes. Chenonceau is open all year, and the Tours tourist office publishes its year-end hours. Chambord is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until December 18, then from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. from December 19 to 31, and it is closed on December 25 and January 1. For Amboise, I could not confirm a winter schedule. Check the Clos Lucé website for its hours.
