Eight tours can be booked in Montmartre, from €29.50 to €274.50 per adult (based on 2 people). They range from a 30-minute private photo session to a 2.5-hour private walk, all rated at least 4.94, with a guide who speaks French. The artists’ stories walk starts at €42 per adult.

Verified on via the Viator partner API (prices, ratings, availability).

Montmartre is best explored on foot, up a hill of cobblestone streets, staircases and squares. Five of the eight tours we selected start at Blanche metro station or on boulevard de Clichy, in front of the Moulin Rouge; the other three meet elsewhere, at Lamarck-Caulaincourt, at Abbesses and near Pigalle. Before choosing, I asked myself a simple question: what can you book here, with a guide or a workshop, that is worth the climb?

I kept eight experiences sold on Viator, checked on October 24, 2026 for a booking window running from November 7, 2026 to January 5, 2027. Each has a rating of at least 4.94, a solid number of reviews, free cancellation, and a guide whose declared languages include French. I set aside seven Montmartre tours whose guide speaks only English, even when they have many reviews: a reader who books in French should get the service they chose.

The formats have very little in common. A private photo session lasts thirty minutes and costs €29.50 per person. The private two-and-a-half-hour walk with a guide costs €274.50 per person for two adults. In between, there are story-driven walks, a semi-private tour that passes the Lapin Agile, a street photography workshop, a family outing and two food tours. The comparison table puts all eight side by side, with duration, price, rating and the number of days open in the booking window.

If you only have time to decide one thing, start with the chocolate and pastry walking tour. It has a perfect 5.0 rating from 72 reviews, it is open 47 of the 60 days in the window, and it ends in front of the Sacré-Cœur. The other listings cover guided walks, photography, meals and private formats: the table and the cards will help you choose.

Why Montmartre: the Pixidia angle

The tours you can book follow one of the neighborhood’s two stories, or mix them: that of the painters and cabarets, or that of the hill, which is very busy today. The semi-private tour (card 2) passes the Lapin Agile and former artists’ studios; the walk in card 5 follows the painters and their stories. Before you pay, it helps to know which one you are buying.

The best-known cabaret in the neighborhood, the Lapin Agile, is on rue des Saules, near Lamarck-Caulaincourt metro station. The sources consulted date it back to the 1860s, under the name Cabaret des Assassins. Its current name comes from the caricaturist André Gill, and Aristide Bruant bought it in 1913. It then welcomed writers and painters of the Bohemian scene, among them Picasso or Max Jacob according to the accounts. The sources disagree on the exact date of the sign, so I do not give a precise date.

The Basilica of the Sacré-Cœur, at the top of the hill, is the neighborhood’s other focal point. Entry is free according to the official site, which lists opening every day from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., with an exceptional closing at midnight on the first Thursday of each month (page checked October 24, 2026). The dome and the crypt have their own rules. The official site did not show a price for the dome on the page checked, although some booking sites mention an entry fee. I therefore write no price for the dome: check it on the official site.

The Musée de Montmartre presents the exhibition « Le cirque, fabrique de l’art moderne » (The circus, a factory of modern art), from October 16, 2026 to February 14, 2027, according to its official site. Opening hours are not consistent across sources: the site lists 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., while the OFFI events listing says 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. I have no confirmed admission price for the museum, so I do not give one.

My selection criterion was simple. A tour had to be bookable for a date, with a price for two people and a verified language. This is not a list of monuments: it is a list of appointments, to set against real opening hours and dates.

The 8 experiences to book in Montmartre

1. Chocolate and pastry walking tour

Rating 5.0 (72 reviews) 3 hours €72.25 per adult (based on 2) Instant confirmation Available 47 of 60 days

If you want to taste the neighborhood rather than just look at it, this is the tour I would put first. Three hours on foot, with tastings one after another (coffee, madeleine or macaron, croissant or pain au chocolat, crêpe, chocolate, éclair) and a finish in front of the Sacré-Cœur. The meeting point is in front of the Moulin Rouge ticket office, on boulevard de Clichy.

This is not a meal: if you want to eat until you are full, card 8 is made for that. The thread here is taste: every stop has its own tasting, and the climbs separate the stops. The catch is the hill. Montmartre is steep, with cobblestone streets and staircases, and the operator says so itself: wear flat shoes. The listing is open 47 of the 60 days in the window, so check your date before you pay. Strollers are accepted, which makes this an option for families with young children.

  • Guide in French or English

2. Semi-private Montmartre tour: from the Moulin Rouge to the Sacré-Cœur

Rating 5.0 (69 reviews) 2 hours €91 per adult (based on 2) Instant confirmation Available 60 of 60 days

A two-hour tour from the Moulin Rouge to the Sacré-Cœur, in a small group, with a pass by the Lapin Agile and former artists’ studios. This is the format I would choose if you want a real explanation of the hill without getting lost in the crowd: the operator announces a group of about six people.

The guide speaks French, English, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese according to the listing. The meeting point is at the newspaper kiosk at Blanche station, as for the tour in card 5: it is one of the two starting points that recur in this selection. The route ends at the Sacré-Cœur, and the listing mentions an exterior view of the Sacré-Cœur and the basilica. Do not assume the dome is included: it is checked separately on the official site.

  • Former artists’ studios on the hill

3. Montmartre with kids: games and tasting

Rating 5.0 (51 reviews) 3 hours €95 per adult (based on 2) Instant confirmation Available 36 of 60 days

Three hours of walking and team games, designed for children. If your group includes kids and you want a visit that is more than a string of monuments, this is the card to look at. The meeting point is in front of the Chez Rita restaurant, opposite Lamarck-Caulaincourt station on line 12.

The program starts with a Parisian-style breakfast (hot drink, croissant, butter, juice) and ends with a tasting of cheeses and cured meats. Wine, aperitif and beer are included for adults, with water and soft drinks. The price shown, €95 per adult for two, is an adult rate: child rates were not checked, so I do not estimate them. The team game is part of the program described on the listing. The listing is open only 36 of 60 days, so check your date before you book your tickets.

4. Private street photography workshop

Rating 5.0 (46 reviews) 2 hours €145 per adult (based on 2) Instant confirmation Private tour Available 56 of 60 days

A two-hour private workshop, for four travelers at most, with composition and settings tips that work for a camera as well as a smartphone. It is a class, not a photo shoot: you leave with rules for photographing a street, not just with pictures. The meeting point is at the exit of Abbesses metro station, near the carousel.

The price checked is €290 for two people, or €145 per adult. Per person, it is the second-highest rate in this selection, after the private walk in card 7. A farewell gift is included. The listing specifies that private transport is not included: plan your trip to Abbesses, a deep station whose accessibility is covered in the section below. If you prefer a walk with a guide rather than a class, cards 5 and 7 meet that need at other prices.

  • Private workshop, four travelers at most

5. Artists’ stories walk with a croissant break

Rating 5.0 (42 reviews) 2.5 hours €42 per adult (based on 2) Instant confirmation Available 60 of 60 days

Two and a half hours on foot, punctuated by the stories of the neighborhood’s artists, their scandals and their loves, with a croissant break. This is the walk I would take for a first discovery: it turns the neighborhood into a story rather than a list of monuments. The meeting point is at the exit of Blanche metro station, and the walk ends near the Sacré-Cœur.

At €42 per adult for two, this is the lowest price among the tours of at least two hours in this selection. The listing does not detail what is included: the croissant break appears in the title, but you should not assume more. Confirm it on the listing before booking if the break matters to you. The walk is open on all 60 days of the window checked, which leaves room for a flexible schedule. The route includes sloping streets and staircases, so wear comfortable shoes.

  • Ends near the Sacré-Cœur

6. 30-minute private photo session

Rating 5.0 (18 reviews) 30 min €29.50 per adult (based on 2) Instant confirmation Private tour Available 60 of 60 days

Thirty minutes of private photo session in the colorful streets of Montmartre, with a photographer who meets you at the Dalida bust, near Pigalle metro station. This is the shortest and least expensive option in this selection: €29.50 per person for two. It suits you if you want a portrait against the hill’s backdrop without giving up your day.

The session serves the image, not the story of the neighborhood. The catch is time: thirty minutes go by fast, so prepare your outfits and poses before the meeting. The listing states that it is accessible to people with reduced mobility; the other listings in this selection do not state it explicitly. With 18 reviews, the 5.0 rating rests on a small sample: read the reviews before you decide.

7. Private walk in the footsteps of the painters

Rating 5.0 (17 reviews) 2.5 hours €274.50 per adult (based on 2) Private tour Available 60 of 60 days

A private two-and-a-half-hour walk with a local guide, from the Moulin Rouge to the basilica, in the footsteps of the hill’s painters. It is the most expensive product in the list, at €274.50 for two adults. It makes sense if you want a visit entirely to yourself, with questions you can ask and a route that adapts to your group.

The meeting point is in front of the Moulin Rouge, 82 boulevard de Clichy, and the guide can recommend a restaurant for afterwards. The private format and the arrival at the basilica make the difference. Two points before you pay. According to the listing, confirmation is not instant: do not book at the last minute if the date matters. And the 5.0 rating rests on only 17 reviews. Choose this walk if budget is not your main criterion and privacy is the reason for your visit.

8. Full multi-stop meal

Rating 4.94 (1827 reviews) 3.5 hours €112 per adult (based on 2) Instant confirmation Available 56 of 60 days

A full meal spread across at least four stops, with a guide, over about 3.5 hours. This is the most reviewed listing in the selection: 1,827 reviews for a 4.94 rating. It starts in front of the Moulin Rouge ticket office and ends in front of the Sacré-Cœur, and the guide speaks French or English according to the listing.

You eat during the visit, in several places, not in a single restaurant. The listing includes water and at least one glass of wine, for guests aged 18 and over. Tipping is not included. The group can have up to 12 travelers per booking, which makes it an option for a larger table. This is not the chocolate tour (card 1): here you eat a proper meal, so arrive hungry and in flat shoes.

  • Meal spread across at least four stops
  • Water and at least one glass of wine (18+)

Practical tips on site

Getting there

Five of the eight tours in this selection start at Blanche station or in front of the Moulin Rouge: that is the first thing to know when you plan your route. The metro covers almost everything. Line 2 serves Anvers, Pigalle and Blanche; line 12 serves Abbesses and Lamarck-Caulaincourt, the station closest to the Lapin Agile. According to the booking listings consulted, bus lines 30, 31, 80 and 85, as well as the Montmartrobus, serve the Sacré-Cœur: check the lines on the RATP site before you go.

The funicular links the foot of the hill to the top, near the basilica. According to a neighborhood guide, it leaves from Anvers station, via rue de Steinkerque. Its wheelchair accessibility is not documented in any of the sources I consulted: do not assume it is accessible until you have checked.

Accessibility and reduced mobility

Montmartre is steep, with cobblestone streets and staircases. The operator of the chocolate tour says so itself, and strollers are accepted on that listing. For Abbesses station, the sources do not agree. It is a deep station with an elevator, and its condition should be checked before you travel with a stroller or with reduced mobility. The photo session is the only listing in this selection to state accessibility for people with reduced mobility; the others do not say so explicitly. Ask the operator before you book.

Opening hours and entry

The Basilica of the Sacré-Cœur is free to visit. The official site lists opening every day from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., with an exceptional closing at midnight on the first Thursday of each month. The dome has hours that vary from one day to the next, and no price appears on the page checked on October 24, 2026: check it on the official site before you plan it into your morning. For the Musée de Montmartre, hours still need confirming: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. according to the official site, while another source gives 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. I do not give a price, as no clear full rate appears in the listings.

A date is not a promise. Several listings are open only part of the window checked: the family walk is open 36 of 60 days, the chocolate tour 47 of 60. Confirm your date on the listing before you book a slot, especially if you combine two tours on the same day.

Lapin Agile, Place du Tertre and Saint-Jean

The Lapin Agile hosts shows of song, poetry and comedy. A guide cites performance nights as Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday: confirm them with the venue before you plan around them. Place du Tertre is most pleasant in the middle of the morning; around noon it becomes one of the neighborhood’s congestion points. If you want to avoid the crowds at the Sacré-Cœur, the church of Saint-Jean-de-Montmartre, near Abbesses station, is described by a booking site as having comparable charm, with fewer people.

Artists’ studios open in November (dates to be confirmed)

The artists’ studios of Anvers to Abbesses open their doors on a weekend in November. The cultural agenda announces Friday, November 20 to Monday, November 23, 2026, with free entry, but another announcement mentions November 14 to 17: the dates are not confirmed, so check them on paris.fr. The meeting point is the Mur des Émiles, at the Guillet Arcane 17 gallery, 8 avenue Trudaine, in the 9th arrondissement. If that weekend appeals to you, the two photo workshops in this selection can be booked alongside it.

Depending on your profile

With family, the walk with a team game (card 3) is designed for children, and the chocolate tour (card 1) accepts strollers. On a small budget, the artists’ stories walk (card 5) and the 30-minute photo session (card 6) are the two lowest prices, but they are very different formats. For a first visit, the semi-private tour (card 2) links the cabarets and the hill in a single outing. For a group that wants its own guide, the private walk (card 7) is the most expensive in the selection, with a guide for two and a half hours; cards 4 and 6 are also private, but focused on photography. To bring back images, the street workshop (card 4) teaches you to photograph the neighborhood, whereas the photo session (card 6) produces a portrait.

Mistakes to avoid

Booking without checking the availability window is the most common mistake: a tour open 36 of 60 days may well fall on a day it does not run. Do not confuse the basilica and the dome, which have different access rules. Do not treat an event announcement as a confirmed date: the open studios of Anvers to Abbesses still need to be verified. Finally, read the guide’s language on the listing: seven Montmartre tours are offered in English only, and that is a different experience.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best-rated tour in Montmartre?

Seven listings in this selection have the top rating of 5.0, including the chocolate and pastry walking tour, with 72 reviews. The most reviewed is the multi-stop meal by Do Eat Better: 1,827 reviews for a 4.94 rating. Details of the chocolate tour.

How much does a guided tour of Montmartre cost for two adults?

Prices checked range from €29.50 per person for the 30-minute photo session to €274.50 for the 2.5-hour private walk. In between, the walks on foot cost €42 and €72.25 per person, and the Do Eat Better meal €112. These rates are for two adults for November 7, 2026 to January 5, 2027, checked on October 24, 2026: they may change, and child rates were not checked.

Can I book a Montmartre tour in French?

Yes, for all eight tours selected: the language declared on each listing includes French. I set aside seven Montmartre tours whose guide speaks only English, even when they have hundreds of reviews. Still, check the language of the date you choose before you pay, since a listing can change from one day to the next.

Is the Sacré-Cœur basilica free to enter?

Entry to the basilica is free according to the official site, which lists opening every day from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., with an exceptional closing at midnight on the first Thursday of each month. Some booking sites present the dome as paid, but the official site shows no price on the page checked. Check the dome’s price and hours on the official site before adding it to your morning.

Is Montmartre accessible by wheelchair or with a stroller?

The neighborhood is steep, with cobblestone streets and staircases, and the operator of the chocolate tour says so. Strollers are accepted on that listing, and the photo session is the only one to state accessibility for people with reduced mobility. Abbesses station is deep, with an elevator: check its condition before you go. For a precise answer, ask the operator before you book.

Can I cancel one of these tours for free?

Yes, according to the Viator listings checked on October 24, 2026: all eight selected tours offer free cancellation. That check does not give the cut-off deadline, which is shown on each listing and may differ from one tour to another. Check it before you pay, along with the availability of your date: the check covers only the window from November 7, 2026 to January 5, 2027.
