Choose Nami Island for a scenic day with little walking, or the DMZ for the border and Korean War history. Nami group tours cost $71.43 to $109 per adult for two travelers. DMZ group tours cost $38 to $65 per adult and run 6 to 10 hours.

Verified on via the Viator partner API (prices, ratings, availability).

You have one free day in Seoul, and two names keep coming up: Nami Island and the Demilitarized Zone. Both are day trips from the city, both start early, and both fill the same day. They answer different questions. Nami Island is a riverside island in Gangwon Province, known for its tree-lined roads and, on some tours, a rail bike ride and a visit to the Garden of Morning Calm, sold in the same day trip. The DMZ follows the 1953 armistice line, and its day includes a walk into a tunnel that North Korea built and a bridge that prisoners of war crossed to go home.

Our search found 37 Nami Island and DMZ tours from Seoul on Viator that hold a rating of 4.7 or higher with at least 100 reviews (8 Nami, 29 DMZ). The search may have missed some, so this is a partial read of the listings. This comparison covers ten of them. We left out one Nami listing that requires at least three travelers per booking, so two adults cannot book it. Prices and open dates come from the Viator partner API, pulled on October 11, 2026. If you want to start with the balanced option before you read on, check availability for the Nami Island rail bike day, which has a 4.90 rating from 231 reviews.

Expect a long day either way. Depending on the tour, a Nami or DMZ day lasts from 6 to 14 hours door to door, as the listings state. The rest of this guide shows which tour fits which traveler, with the prices, the open dates and the things the listings leave out.

Why Nami Island and the DMZ Get Compared

Both trips leave the city early. In this set, the ten products come from nine different suppliers. The difference is what you spend the day on. A Nami day is a scenic day: a walk on tree-lined roads, a garden visit in some tours, Alpaca World in one combination, and a rail bike ride on a former railway line in the two tours that include it. A DMZ day is a history day: Imjingak Pyeonghwa-Nuri Park, the Bridge of Freedom, the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel, and optional stops that vary by operator.

Nami Island is in Chuncheon, in Gangwon Province, according to the Wikipedia entry for Namiseom. Several listings name Gapyeong, the neighboring county, so the place on your voucher may not match the name you know. The island is about 39 miles (63 kilometers) from central Seoul, according to the listing for the rail bike tour. The DMZ follows the armistice line across the peninsula. Sources disagree on its length, between 148 and 155 miles (238 to 250 kilometers), so we use the rounder figure of about 155 miles (250 kilometers).

The Joint Security Area at Panmunjom is the stop we are least able to promise. It is reached only on a separate program, its access has changed in recent years, and only one tour in this comparison lists the JSA Museum, a museum stop that is not the Joint Security Area itself. We come back to it in the FAQ and in the practical tips.

Timing matters too. The window we checked runs from October 25 to December 23, 2026. Open dates differ widely from one tour to the next, from 26 to 60 of the 60 days we checked, so the product you choose can decide whether your date works at all.

The 10 Tours Compared

The table lists the ten tours in the same order as the cards below. Prices are for two travelers. Shared tours show the price per adult with the two-person total in brackets. The private Nami tour is priced per adult, and the private DMZ tour is priced per vehicle, so its cell says so.

Prices and open dates pulled from the Viator partner API on October 11, 2026, for departures from October 25 to December 23, 2026. They can change.

Nami group tours run from $71.43 to $109 per adult. DMZ group tours run from $38 to $65 per adult, and two of them cost $50. The private Nami tour costs $192 to $198 per adult. The private DMZ tour costs $500 per vehicle for two travelers, and the car holds up to six, so read that figure as the price of the car rather than of one person. Every tour in the table shows free cancellation in the Viator data, but read the cancellation window on the Viator page before you pay.

1. Nami Island Day with Alpaca World and Rail Bike

Rating 4.90 (231 reviews) 10 hours $73.90 per adult, based on 2 travelers Instant confirmation

This is the balanced choice on the Nami side. The tour pairs the island with Alpaca World and a shared four-seat rail bike on a former railway line, so the day has something to do between the tree-lined roads. It has the highest rating of the five Nami products in the set, 4.90 from 231 reviews, which is a real sample rather than a handful of comments. Three Seoul pickup points run from 7:00 to 8:00 a.m., and the day lasts 10 hours. Meals, hotel pickup and personal expenses are not included, so pack lunch. A private rail bike upgrade is sold as an extra, subject to availability. With 52 of the 60 days open, most dates in the window work. Pick this one for a single Nami day with a visible activity and little strain. Skip it if the mountains or the border are the point of the trip.

  • Shared four-seat rail bike included
  • Alpaca World visit included
  • Meals not included: pack lunch

2. Mount Seorak, Nami Island and Garden Day Trip

Rating 4.85 (1,249 reviews) 14 hours $89.40 per adult, based on 2 travelers Instant confirmation

Choose this if you want Nami Island and the mountains in one day. The tour adds Seoraksan National Park, with Shinheungsa Temple on the route, so the value is the second sight rather than the island alone. It is the most reviewed Nami product in the set, with 1,249 reviews at 4.85. The price includes the Garden of Morning Calm entrance, the Seoraksan park ticket and the Nami ferry ticket, and the vehicle is shared. Two things sit outside the price: the Seoraksan cable car and the zip-line tickets on Nami Island. The day runs 14 hours, the longest in the set. Pickup is outside Myeongdong Station Exit 4, in front of Paris Baguette, or at Hongik University Station Exit 8, in front of Starbucks. Budget for the cable car if you want it, and keep the length in mind if you travel with children or older relatives.

3. Nami Island and Garden Day with Rail Bike

Rating 4.78 (608 reviews) 11 to 12 hours $71.43 per adult, based on 2 travelers Instant confirmation

This is the lowest-priced Nami group tour in the set, at $71.43 per adult, and its October 11, 2026 snapshot shows open dates on all 60 days of the window. Both entrance tickets are listed, for Nami Island and the Garden of Morning Calm, along with a shared four-seat rail bike and round-trip transport. You choose one of three Seoul pickup points: Dongdaemun History and Culture Park Station Exit 10, the Namsan Yejang Bus Parking Lot about five minutes from Myeongdong Station Exit 1, or Hongik University Station Exit 4. The day runs 11 to 12 hours door to door, counted from pickup, which makes it one of the longest in the set. Its rating of 4.78 from 608 reviews is the lowest of the five Nami products, so compare it with card 1 before you book. Traveler insurance, food and drinks are not included. Choose this card if you want both sights and a rail bike at the lowest price, and you are comfortable with a rating a few tenths lower.

4. Private Nami Island Day with Lunch Included

Rating 4.84 (113 reviews) 8 to 10 hours $192 to $198 per adult, based on 2 travelers Private tour

Choose this if you do not want to share a vehicle or a timetable. It is the only private Nami option in the set, with a car for your group and an English-speaking driver guide. The price is $192 to $198 per adult for two travelers, about 2.7 times the lowest group fare for Nami in this comparison. In exchange, it includes lunch, which none of the group tours here do, along with all fees and taxes. You choose Petite France, the Garden of Morning Calm, or both, and the listing says the pickup is arranged for your group at booking, so confirm the meeting point on your voucher. The day lasts 8 to 10 hours, and its October 11, 2026 snapshot shows open dates on all 60 days of the window. Free cancellation runs up to 24 hours before departure. Pick it for a couple or a small group that values control and lunch over the price.

5. Nami Island and Cable Car Panoramic Day

Rating 4.85 (129 reviews) 9 hours $109.00 per adult, based on 2 travelers Open on 26 of 60 days

This is one of three Nami days with three Seoul pickup points, and it adds the Samaksan Mountain cable car and skywalk in Chuncheon. It is also the most expensive Nami group tour at $109 per adult, and it has the fewest open dates in the set: 26 of the 60 days we checked. Check the calendar before you pick a fixed day. The pickups are early. Depending on the season, the first one at Hongik University Station Exit 3 is at 6:20 a.m., City Hall Station Exit 6 is at 6:40 a.m., and Myeongdong Station Exit 4 is at 6:50 a.m. The drop-off is at Myeongdong Station only. The listing warns that the cable car may close for weather or maintenance, so one of the main attractions can disappear on the day. Lunch and gratuities are not included. Choose this card if the cable car is the reason for the trip, and keep a second date ready.

6. DMZ Tour with Suspension Bridge and JSA Museum Option

Rating 4.94 (51,965 reviews) 7 to 9 hours $50.00 per adult, based on 2 travelers Instant confirmation

This is the DMZ tour with the most reviews in the set, 51,965 at 4.94, and it is the one to choose if you want the widest list of stops. Imjingak Pyeonghwa-Nuri Park, the Bridge of Freedom and the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel make up the core of the day. At checkout you can add the JSA Museum, the Gamaksan Red Suspension Bridge, the Majang Lake Bridge and a talk with a North Korean defector. The JSA Museum is a museum stop, not a visit to the Joint Security Area itself, so do not book this card expecting the conference room at Panmunjom. Pickup is at downtown subway stations, and hotel pickup in downtown Seoul is also offered. The tour runs 7 to 9 hours, with open dates on 51 of the 60 days. Lunch and gratuities are not included. Ask the operator which add-ons run on your date before you pay.

7. DMZ Tour with Defector Talk and the 3rd Tunnel

Rating 4.97 (29,909 reviews) 6 to 9 hours $50.00 per adult, based on 2 travelers Instant confirmation

This is the highest-rated DMZ group tour in the set, at 4.97 from 29,909 reviews, and its October 11, 2026 snapshot shows open dates on all 60 days of the window. The core of the day is a walk into the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel and a conversation with a North Korean defector about her escape. The operator, PLK Travel, says it has run DMZ tours from Seoul since 2016 and runs its own North Korea Experience Center. The listing offers an option without the suspension bridge, which shortens the day to the lower end of the range. Pickup points are Myeongdong Subway Station Exit 5 for the option without the bridge, and Hongik University Station Exit 3 or Myeongdong Subway Station Exit 8 for the full day. Free hotel pickup is offered for groups of 10 or more. Lunch and travel insurance are not included. Choose it if the defector talk matters to you as much as the tunnel.

8. Lowest-Priced DMZ Tour with Dora Observatory

Rating 4.88 (5,979 reviews) 7 to 9 hours $38.00 per adult, based on 2 travelers Instant confirmation

At $38 per adult, this is the lowest-priced DMZ tour in the set. It covers the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel, the Dora Observatory, the Freedom Bridge and Imjingak Park, and the listing includes an interview with a North Korean defector. The guide holds a DMZ license and speaks English, and all fees and taxes are included. Gamaksan Suspension Bridge and Gyeongbokgung Palace can be added when you select them. The meeting point is not fixed in the listing data: the guide meets the group at the place named in your booking confirmation, so read it before you leave the hotel. Lunch and personal expenses are not included. Open dates cover 51 of the 60 days. Check the Dora Observatory access on the day, because the listing does not state its opening hours. Choose it if the lowest price matters most and you are happy to confirm the meeting place in your booking confirmation.

9. Small-Group DMZ Tour with Hotel Pickup

Rating 4.92 (2,397 reviews) 8 to 10 hours $65.00 per adult, based on 2 travelers Instant confirmation

Choose this if you do not want to find a subway exit with a map in your hand. It is a small-group DMZ tour with hotel pickup at Myeongdong or Hongdae station, depending on the option you pick at booking, and drop-off at Hongdae, Myeongdong, Gwangjang food market and Dongdaemun. The price includes the DMZ and Bridge of Freedom entrance fees, an experienced guide and an air-conditioned vehicle. The route covers the Bridge of Freedom, the 3rd tunnel and the suspension bridge, over 8 to 10 hours. At $65 per adult, it costs more than the two $50 group tours in the set, and the difference buys the pickup and drop-off. Lunch is not included, so plan for it. Confirmation is instant, and you can cancel free up to 24 hours before departure. It has open dates on 51 of the 60 days.

10. Private DMZ Tour with Hotel Pickup

Rating 4.96 (793 reviews) 8 hours $500 per vehicle (2 travelers) Private tour

This is the only private DMZ option in the set, and it has a 4.96 rating from 793 reviews. The price is per vehicle, for up to six travelers, not per person. For two travelers the car costs $500, which works out to $250 each, but the cost per person falls as more people share the car, so check the group size with the operator before you book. The tour includes free hotel pickup and drop-off in downtown Seoul, a professional guide who speaks English or Chinese, and all taxes, fees and handling charges. Admission, parking and tolls are optional. Lunch and gratuities are not included. The day lasts 8 hours and has open dates on 51 of the 60 days. Choose it when the schedule and a private guide matter more than the price.

Practical Tips for US Travelers

Money. Viator shows every price here in US dollars. The listings do not give an exchange rate or explain how card fees apply, so check with your card issuer before you travel. Several tours leave out admission, parking, tolls or gratuities, so add those costs to the card price before you compare two tours. For the private DMZ tour, the car price is the number to compare, and it is shared by up to six travelers.

Tipping. Gratuities are not included in the DMZ tour in card 6 or in the private DMZ tour in card 10, and the other listings do not settle the question. We do not state a local tipping norm here. Ask the operator before the day. Lunch is not included in any of the five DMZ tours, and the only Nami tour that includes lunch is the private one in card 4. Pack food for the group tours.

Meeting points. Read the meeting point before you book. Four of the five Nami tours name a Seoul station exit. The DMZ listings split between subway exits, hotel pickup and the point given in the booking confirmation. Some listings send the pickup time on reconfirmation, and the meeting place is given in your booking confirmation. Check your Viator messages before you leave the hotel, and arrive early. The first pickup on the cable car tour in card 5 is at 6:20 a.m., depending on the season.

Calendar. Open dates in the window range from 26 to 60 out of 60 days. The cable car tour has the fewest, 26, and the Seoraksan combo in card 2 has 43. Most of the other tours have 51 to 60 open days. Pick the product before you pick the date, and keep a second date in mind for any tour that has a fixed pickup or a limited window.

The JSA. Reports from 2025 describe a suspension of the tours into the Joint Security Area, and a later report says they were set to resume after a four-month suspension. We could not confirm their status for 2027. Only one tour in this comparison, card 6, lists the JSA Museum as an optional stop, and that is a museum stop, not the Joint Security Area itself. Treat the JSA as a possible stop that the operator confirms at booking, and build the day around the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel and the Bridge of Freedom.

Entry and documents. Confirm the document rules with the operator when you book, because the listings do not state them. We could not confirm from an official source whether a K-ETA applies to US citizens in 2027, and the guides we read are not authoritative on that point. Check the official K-ETA site and the U.S. State Department travel advisory for South Korea before you travel, because the rules and the advisory level can change. The advisory level was not read for this article, so do not treat any level as settled.

Questions Travelers Ask

Is the Korean DMZ worth visiting?

Yes, if the history of the peninsula is what you came for. Several DMZ tours in this set include the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel and the Bridge of Freedom. The two most-reviewed group tours cost $50 per adult, with 4.94 from 51,965 reviews and 4.97 from 29,909 reviews. Group tours start at $38 per adult, and the private tour costs $500 per vehicle for two travelers, which holds up to six.

How much does a DMZ tour from Seoul cost?

In the set we checked on October 11, 2026, the group DMZ tours cost $38 to $65 per adult for two travelers. Two of them cost $50 per adult and have the most reviews in the set, 51,965 and 29,909. The private DMZ tour costs $500 per vehicle for two travelers, and the car holds up to six. Prices apply to departures from October 25 to December 23, 2026. Lunch is not included in any of the five DMZ tours, and some listings leave out admission or offer it as an option, so read each card before you compare.

Is Nami Island worth the trip?

It depends on what you want from the day. Nami gives you tree-lined roads, and in some tours a rail bike ride and a visit to the Garden of Morning Calm, with Alpaca World in one combination. Ratings run from 4.78 to 4.90. It does not offer the history of the border, and the longest tour runs 14 hours, so it asks a lot of your day. For a first visit with one free day, the 10-hour tour with Alpaca World and a rail bike is the balanced choice in this comparison.

Is a visit to the Joint Security Area included in the DMZ tours?

Not reliably. Only one listing in the set, the DMZ tour in card 6, offers the JSA Museum as an optional stop, and the other tours do not list the JSA. The JSA Museum is a museum stop, not the Joint Security Area itself. Tours into the JSA were suspended in 2025, and their status for 2027 is not settled. Treat it as a possibility to confirm with the operator, not a promise. Ask about age rules too, because the sources we read give different minimum ages. The tunnel and the Bridge of Freedom make up the reliable core of a DMZ day.

Can I see Nami Island and the DMZ in one day?

None of the ten tours in this comparison combines them, so if you want both, book them on separate days. The Seoraksan combo in card 2 adds a second national park to Nami Island, but it does not include the DMZ. Pick the one that matches the mood you want for your free day, and save the other for a second trip.

Do I need a passport for a DMZ tour?

The listings do not state the document rules, so confirm them with the operator when you book. For US citizens, we could not confirm from an official source whether a K-ETA applies in 2027. Check the official K-ETA site and the U.S. State Department advisory for South Korea before you travel, because the rules can change. This is general information, not legal advice.
