The combined day trip is the better value for most first-time visitors. A full-day group tour through Fátima, Batalha, Nazaré and Óbidos is $50.24 per adult for two travelers (checked October 11, 2026), while the two private Nazaré and Óbidos tours cost $176.99 to $325.43. Choose Nazaré for the waves (autumn and winter) and Fátima for the sanctuary.

Most people planning one day from Lisbon ask the same question: is Nazaré or Fátima the better choice? Half of the twelve tours combine Fátima and Nazaré in one day. Four cover Fátima alone, and two cover Nazaré and Óbidos without Fátima. Eight of the twelve stop at Óbidos, and five add Batalha. The real decision comes down to three things: how much you want to spend per person, whether the coast or the sanctuary matters more to you, and whether you prefer a small group or a car to yourself.

We looked at 12 Viator day tours that leave from Lisbon and reach these towns. Our search started from 24 candidates, priced 14 of them, and kept 12. Six kept tours clear 4.7 with at least 100 reviews, five clear 4.5 with at least 50, and one clears 4.5 with at least 15. We loosened the thresholds only for the private Nazaré and Óbidos tour with 32 reviews, so that it stays in the sample. Prices are per adult for two travelers, checked on October 11, 2026, for departures from October 25 to December 23, 2026. These prices apply to 2026 departures only, and we have not checked 2027 departures. Six tours combine Fátima and Nazaré in one day, four cover Fátima alone, and two cover Nazaré and Óbidos without Fátima. The two Nazaré and Óbidos options are few and priced higher, and we say so wherever it matters.

If you want a quick answer, our pick for value is the full-day group tour at $50.24, number 2 on the list. For a cheaper day focused on the sanctuary, the Fátima tour at $42.30, number 1, is hard to beat. If you want the coast and nothing else, check the private Nazaré and Óbidos day, number 8, first. The rest of this article explains what each choice gives you and what it leaves out.

Read on for the comparison table, the practical details that change the day, the tipping question, and the costs that are not in the headline price. Those extras are where most of the surprises are.

Why Nazaré and Fátima Are Sold Together

Large Atlantic waves breaking on the beach at Nazaré, Portugal
Nazaré, Portugal. Photo by Frederik Rosar on Unsplash

Nazaré is a fishing town on the Atlantic coast, known for the Praia do Norte, the beach where the biggest waves break. Wikipedia records a 26.2-meter (86-foot) wave surfed there by Sebastian Steudtner in October 2020. Surf guides point to autumn and winter as the best season for big waves. The town is simply a pleasant place to eat fish and look down from the cliffs. The clifftop district of Sítio sits above the beach, and a funicular links the two.

Fátima is a different kind of day. It is one of the largest Catholic pilgrimage sites in the world, built around the apparitions reported in 1917 and the Chapel of the Apparitions. Many tours also visit the shepherds’ village at Aljustrel, where the three children grew up. The sanctuary is a place of worship first and a sightseeing stop second, which changes how long you should plan to stay.

Óbidos is the walled medieval town in between, and Batalha is the Gothic monastery that most combined tours drive past or stop at. Wikipedia dates the monastery’s UNESCO listing to 1983 and its construction to 1386 to about 1517. Not every combined tour includes the inside: at least one listing excludes the cloisters and interior, so check before you assume you will go in.

Six of the twelve tours combine the three places, so the useful question is often whether you want all of them in one day or only one. Asking « Nazaré or Fátima? » matters less than asking « how much time and money do I want to spend on one day? » Five of the twelve tours publish 9 to 10 hours, and three publish no duration. The stop-by-stop split of a combined day is our estimate, not a published schedule, so ask the operator for the timing before you book. A private day gives you more control over that split, and a group day gives you a lower price. The rest of this article is about making that trade-off on purpose.

The 12 Tours Compared: Price, Rating and Availability

The table lists the tours in the same order as the cards below, cheapest first. Two notes matter before you read the numbers. First, prices are per adult for two travelers, so a group of four may see different rates. Second, the two Nazaré and Óbidos private tours each have fewer than 60 reviews, so their 5.0 ratings rest on a small sample. Four tours run on 56 to 59 of the 60 days in the window, and the table shows the count for each.

1. Fátima Sanctuary and Shepherds’ Village Guided Tour

Rated 4.77 (52 reviews) 6 hours $42.30 per adult for two travelers (checked October 11, 2026) Instant confirmation

The cheapest tour on this list is also the simplest: a Fátima-only day with a certified guide, air-conditioned transport and a visit to the Chapel of the Apparitions, which the listing includes. We would book it for a first visit where the sanctuary is the point, not the coast. The trade-off is time. Six hours is a long day for one main stop, so the guide’s commentary and the stop order carry much of the value. Ask the operator for the stop schedule before you book. The meeting point is in front of the VIP Executive Eden Aparthotel in Lisbon, so check the walk from your hotel before the early start. Gratuities and personal expenses are not included, so keep a little cash for the guide.

  • Certified guide and air-conditioned transport

Rated 4.87 (293 reviews) Full day $50.24 per adult for two travelers (checked October 11, 2026) Instant confirmation

This is the cheapest way to see all four places on one day, at $50.24 per adult for two travelers. The route covers Fátima, Batalha, Nazaré and Óbidos with a certified guide, and alcoholic beverages are part of the package. The group can be large (the listing says up to 34 travelers), so this suits someone who does not need a private schedule. The listing does not publish a duration, so plan for a full day and confirm the return time with the operator before you book. Lunch and gratuities are not included. Meet in the central garden at Praça da Alegria, across from the Maxime Hotel, and arrive ten minutes early.

Rated 4.73 (1850 reviews) 10 hours $63.94 per adult for two travelers (checked October 11, 2026) Instant confirmation

This is the longest combined day on the list, at ten hours, and with 1,850 reviews at 4.73 it is the second most reviewed combined tour on the list. A bilingual guide leads the group, transport is air-conditioned, and taxes and fees are included. The value is time. With more hours on the route than the nine-hour tours, you have room for a proper lunch stop in Nazaré. Lunch is not included, so budget for it, and note that hotel pick-up costs extra. Meet at the top of Parque Eduardo VII. The guide carries a yellow flag or hat marked « Lanetours », so look for that before you walk over to the wrong group. Pick this one if you want a long, unhurried day without the cost of a private car.

Rated 4.72 (3659 reviews) 9 hours $74.22 to $89.07 per adult for two travelers (checked October 11, 2026) Instant confirmation

This is the most reviewed combined tour on the list, with 3,659 reviews and a 4.72 rating. Choose it if you want a minivan and a local expert guide rather than a bigger group. The day includes a ginja tasting served in a chocolate cup, which is the kind of stop that gives Óbidos its character. The price depends on the date: $74.22 to $89.07 per adult for two travelers. Read the exclusions carefully: the Batalha cloisters and interior are not included. Meet in front of the Hard Rock Cafe in Lisbon. The guide may park in an underground lot, so wait at the meeting point rather than looking for the van on the street.

5. Fátima, Nazaré and Óbidos Eight-Guest Small Group

Rated 4.95 (1294 reviews) 9 hours $77.64 per adult for two travelers (checked October 11, 2026) Instant confirmation

This is the best-rated group tour with more than 1,000 reviews: 4.95 from 1,294 guests. The group is capped at eight, and both the guide and the driver speak English, which matters on a day this long. The route includes the clifftop viewpoint over Nazaré and Praia do Norte, the beach where the biggest waves break. The lighthouse entry, about 3 euros per person, is not included. The tour does not run every day: it is open 56 of the 60 days in our window, so check the calendar before you commit. The meeting point is on Avenida da Liberdade at 8:30 a.m., a short walk from the Restauradores metro station, which makes it an easy start for anyone staying in central Lisbon.

  • Nazaré clifftop viewpoint and Praia do Norte

Rated 4.83 (332 reviews) 9 hours $79.92 per adult for two travelers (checked October 11, 2026) Instant confirmation

This is a small-group day with pick-up at set points or hotels. That makes it one of the more practical combined tours for anyone staying outside the center, because the pick-up saves a transfer on the morning of the tour. The van leaves at 8:30 a.m., and the listing asks you to arrive by 8:15 a.m. The route includes panoramic photo stops on the coast, with the best views on the way. Lunch and personal expenses are not included. Ask in advance which hotels are on the pick-up list, and confirm that yours is one of them before you pay.

7. Half-Day Fátima and Shepherds’ Village Small-Group Tour

Rated 4.67 (354 reviews) Half day $91.35 per adult for two travelers (checked October 11, 2026) Instant confirmation

This is the half-day option to Fátima for someone who wants the sanctuary and a shorter day. The listing includes attendance at Mass in the sanctuary, and a visit to the Shepherds’ village and the house where the children lived. The small-group version meets in central Lisbon at Praça da Figueira, next to the equestrian statue of Dom João I, so arrive ten minutes early. Pick-up at your hotel is only on the private option, which is listed separately at a much higher price. Gratuities, meals and drinks are not included. The duration is not published, so plan for a half day. Choose it if you want the sanctuary without a long ride to the coast.

Rated 5.0 (32 reviews) 8 hours $176.99 per adult for two travelers (checked October 11, 2026) Private tour, instant confirmation

This is the private option for travelers who want Nazaré and Óbidos but not Fátima. The eight-hour tour includes a stop at the Nazaré lighthouse, time at the Óbidos castle walls, and a ginjinha tasting. Bottled water and alcoholic beverages are part of the package, and lunch is not included. The rating is a perfect 5.0, but it rests on 32 reviews, so treat it as a small sample. The tour runs 56 of the 60 days in our window, so check the date you want. Meet in front of the Hard Rock Cafe Lisboa, where the guide waits. We would choose it for a photographer who wants the coast and a car to themselves, and we would skip it if Fátima is the main goal.

Rated 4.96 (152 reviews) Full day $199.83 per adult for two travelers (checked October 11, 2026) Private tour, instant confirmation

This is the one private tour on the list that covers all four places in a single day, with a private guide and private transport, at $199.83 per adult for two travelers. The stops are Fátima, Batalha, Nazaré and Óbidos, and the listing includes a lunch break near the Nazaré surf beach. You pay for the car, the guide and the flexibility. Entrance fees, meals and gratuities are not included, so the Batalha monastery ticket is extra. Hotel pick-up in Lisbon follows the supplier’s list, and the exact point is confirmed by the supplier. The listing does not publish hours. This tour suits a couple who want the whole route without a group.

Rated 4.87 (60 reviews) 6 hours $205.54 to $216.95 per adult for two travelers (checked October 11, 2026) Private tour, instant confirmation

This is a private pilgrimage day, six hours with a guide, for visitors who want Fátima at their own pace. Admission to the Sanctuary of Fátima Museum is included. Pick-up is possible in Lisbon, Cascais or Sintra, which makes it the most practical choice for travelers staying on the coast line. At $205.54 to $216.95 per adult for two travelers, it costs almost five times the Fátima sanctuary tour at number 1, so you are paying for the car and the schedule. Lunch and snacks are not included. The tour runs 58 of the 60 days in our window, so check the calendar. Organize the exact meeting point with the supplier by WhatsApp after you book.

11. Fátima Private Half-Day Tour

Rated 4.65 (120 reviews) 5 hours $211.25 per adult for two travelers (checked October 11, 2026) Private tour, instant confirmation

This is a private half-day to Fátima with hotel pick-up and drop-off, a driver-guide, and free time at the sanctuary. The free time is the point: you set your own pace inside the sanctuary grounds instead of following a group. Some listing links use « Fátima-Obidos » in the address, but the tour does not stop in Óbidos, so do not book it for the walled town. Lunch and gratuities are not included. At $211.25 per adult for two travelers, it costs more than twice the small-group half-day at number 7. The difference buys the private car and the hotel pick-up. The tour runs all 60 days of our window. Choose it if timing and comfort matter more to you than price.

  • Hotel pick-up and drop-off

Rated 5.0 (59 reviews) 10 hours $325.43 per adult for two travelers (checked October 11, 2026) Private tour, instant confirmation

This is the most expensive tour on the list, at $325.43 per adult for two travelers, and the only one that adds a cave visit: admission to the Mira de Aire caves is included. The ten-hour private van covers the Nazaré beach, the Sítio clifftop and Óbidos, with no stop in Fátima. Hotel pick-up is private, with a flexible departure time confirmed by the supplier, and the van has free Wi-Fi. Lunch is not included. The rating is 5.0 from 59 reviews, and the tour runs 59 of the 60 days in our window. Book it for a traveler who wants the caves and the coast in one car, and who is happy to pay for that.

Travel Tips Before You Book

The square and basilica of the Fátima sanctuary in Portugal
Fátima, Portugal. Photo by Richard Multimedia on Unsplash

Match the tour to the reason you are going. Budget travelers should start with number 1 and number 2, at $42.30 and $50.24 per adult. First-time visitors who want all four places should compare number 9, the private day that covers the full route, with numbers 2, 3 and 6, the group tours that list Batalha in their titles. Confirm the stops on each product page, since number 5 does not stop there. If the sanctuary matters most, choose number 7 for a half day or number 10 for a private pilgrimage day with the museum. Photographers and anyone who wants the coast without Fátima should look at number 8 and number 12.

Check the meeting point before you pay. The 12 tours start in different places. They begin at the Hard Rock Cafe, Avenida da Liberdade, Praça da Alegria, Parque Eduardo VII, Praça da Figueira or the VIP Executive Eden Aparthotel, among others, and several private tours start from a hotel pick-up list. Read the meeting point on each card, then check the walk or transfer from your hotel. Three listings give a time to arrive: ten minutes early for numbers 2 and 7, and 8:15 a.m. for the 8:30 a.m. van on number 6. The other nine give no lead time, so check the product page.

Plan the money beyond the headline price. Most of these prices exclude lunch, so budget for it; the guide on number 3 can arrange a free lunch in Nazaré. Most also exclude gratuities. Budget for lunch and for the tip. The lighthouse entry in Nazaré is about 3 euros per person on one tour, and it is listed as an extra not included in the price. The funicular fare between the beach and Sítio varies by source, so check the ticket price at the funicular. We could not confirm a price for the Batalha monastery, so check the ticket desk or the monastery’s own page before you go.

Watch the calendar. Surf sources put the big-wave season from October to March, peaking from November to February; the whole window, October 25 to December 23, falls inside it. The sanctuary’s own news lists an anniversary pilgrimage on October 12 and a basilica dedication on October 13, 2026. Both dates fall before this window. We did not find attendance figures for those days.

Getting there on your own. A bus is the simplest way without a tour. Bus listings put the trip to Nazaré at about 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours, and one aggregator puts the average at about 1 hour 54 minutes. Train listings put the trip to Nazaré at three to five hours with a change. By bus, the trip to Fátima takes about 1 hour 15 to 1 hour 30 direct, and up to 2 hours by some sources. Departure stations differ by operator (Sete-Rios or Oriente), so check the timetable the day before you travel.

Mistakes to avoid. Do not book a Nazaré and Óbidos tour expecting to see Fátima, and do not judge a tour by its web address, since some listing links use names that do not match the itinerary. Read the stop list on the product page before you book. We did not confirm whether entry to the sanctuary is free; check on arrival. Do not assume fixed opening hours either, because we could not confirm them on the sanctuary’s site.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which is better for one day from Lisbon, Nazaré or Fátima?

Pick by interest if you only have time for one place. Fátima is a pilgrimage site built around the Chapel of the Apparitions, and the cheapest Fátima-only tour is $42.30 per adult for two travelers (checked October 11, 2026). Nazaré is a fishing town with the Praia do Norte and a clifftop view, and the cheapest private Nazaré and Óbidos tour is $176.99 per adult for two travelers (checked October 11, 2026). For most travelers, though, a combined tour that includes both places gives more for the money, and the full-day group option is $50.24 per adult for two travelers (checked October 11, 2026).

Are the cheaper group tours worth it compared with private ones?

For two travelers, the group tours often cost less than half of a private tour on the same route. The nine-hour small-group tours sit between $74.22 and $89.07 per adult, while the private combined day is $199.83. The trade-off is control. A private tour gives you the schedule, the stops and the pick-up point, and a group tour gives you a guide and a lower price. Per-person prices can change with group size, so compare again for your actual group size before you book.

How long does it take to get from Lisbon to Nazaré and Fátima?

Where tours publish a duration, it runs from 5 to 10 hours. On your own, bus listings put the trip to Nazaré at about 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours. By bus, the trip to Fátima takes about 1 hour 15 to 1 hour 30 direct, and up to 2 hours by some sources. Departure stations differ by operator (Sete-Rios or Oriente), so check the timetable the day before you travel.

Are Batalha Monastery and the Nazaré lighthouse included in the tours?

Not always. At least one combined tour excludes the cloisters and interior of Batalha Monastery, and we could not confirm a monastery price, so check the ticket desk before you go. Visit Lisboa lists last entry at 5:30 p.m. (October to March) or 6:00 p.m. (April to October); October appears in both ranges, so check on the day. The Nazaré lighthouse entry, about 3 euros per person, is not included in the eight-guest small-group tour. Ask the operator which entries are covered before you book.

How much should I tip the guide and driver in Portugal?

Tipping is not included in any of these prices, and none of the Viator listings we checked sets an amount. One operator blog suggests roughly 5 to 10 euros a day for a guide and 2 to 5 euros for a driver, and another travel source suggests 10 to 20 euros for a private guide. We read these two pages only as search excerpts, so treat them as rules of thumb rather than rates. Pay in euros.

Do these tours run every day between October 25 and December 23, 2026?

Eight of the twelve tours run on all 60 days of the window. Four do not: number 5 and number 8 run 56 of 60 days, number 10 runs 58 of 60, and number 12 runs 59 of 60. Availability was checked on October 11, 2026, and it changes, so confirm the date on the Viator page before you pay.
