The Pipe Masters 2026 is announced for 8 to 20 December 2026 at Banzai Pipeline, in Pupukea on Oahu’s north shore. It’s the final stop of the World Surf League Championship Tour, where the world surfing title is decided. The event depends on the swell: days without waves are rest days.

Checked on against the sources cited in this article (hawaii.com listing, Wikipedia, Stab Mag, TheBus, gov.uk).

The Pipe Masters 2026 is held at Banzai Pipeline, and this year it decides the title. The WSL has moved the event to the end of the Championship Tour, in place of the WSL Finals. If you want to watch this final from Oahu’s north shore, three things matter before you go: a date window that depends on the swell, a beach whose free access the organiser hasn’t confirmed, and US entry formalities that changed on 3 November 2026.

Safety first. Ehukai beach is described as dangerous in winter, when big swells break over a shallow reef. A lifeguard is on duty at the park. A KITV report describes a surfer rescued at Banzai Pipeline with serious facial injuries. Don’t try to swim at Pipeline without experience.

Banzai Pipeline, in Pupukea

8 to 20 December 2026 (announced) 15,000 points to the winner Pupukea, Oahu North shore

The Pipe Masters is held on Banzai Pipeline, a shallow reef about sixty metres from Ehukai Beach Park. The park’s listing presents it as one of the best-known surf spots on the north shore, famous for its tubes. Ehukai Beach Park listing, gohawaii.com.

The event has had several names over the years: Billabong Pipeline Masters, Vans Pipe Masters, then Lexus Pipe Masters, the name hawaii.com uses for 2026. Sponsor names change from one year to the next, so this article says Pipe Masters, and Lexus Pipe Masters only once.

Key points

  • The last stop of the 2026 Championship Tour, the one that decides the world title, according to Wikipedia and Stab Mag.
  • A wave famous for its tubes, which one guide says you can see from the sand, about sixty metres from the beach.
  • Dates announced as 8 to 20 December 2026, with possible rest days if the swell isn’t right.
Pixidia tip: don’t book a return flight for a specific day before reading the WSL’s daily schedule. The window is a competition period, not a fixed date.

If you’re staying in Waikiki, don’t have a car and want to see the north shore on a day without competition, the day tour described below might suit you. It has two plus points: stops at Sunset Beach, Waimea Valley and the Dole Plantation, and pick-up in Waikiki. Its drawbacks: it drives past Banzai Pipeline without stopping, and it lasts 8 hours. It won’t replace a spot on the sand on a morning of heats. The listing also mentions a return walk of about 1.5 miles to Waimea Falls, an optional swim at the falls, and a tram at about $10 that is not included in the price. One September 2025 review among those read reports the falls were dry that day. That’s a summary of reviews, not a measurement, and the operator replies that the falls usually flow but can sometimes be dry. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before departure.

According to the Viator listing checked on 7 November 2026, the tour leaves Waikiki around 7 am with a local guide. It passes Diamond Head, Hanauma Bay and Kualoa, then stops at Sunset Beach, Waimea Valley and the Dole Plantation. Meals, drinks and tips are not included. For other day trips from Honolulu, our selection of six tours to book on Oahu lists more ideas.

Checked on the Viator API on 7 November 2026: €280.56 for two adults, with 13 of the 13 days open in the 8 to 20 December 2026 window. The price changes with the date and the number of travellers, so check it again before you book.

2. Announced dates, and a competition that depends on the swell

A competition window, not a fixed date

The announced dates are 8 to 20 December 2026. They match across several sources, including the hawaii.com listing and specialist press citing the WSL. The official event page wasn’t available when this article was written, so check the WSL website before you book.

The format is simple to explain. Each morning the judges decide whether heats run, based on the size, direction and period of the swell. When conditions aren’t right, there are rest days.

How many competition days? No number is guaranteed. The window has 13 days, and how many of them see heats depends on the swell. A stay of two or three days might not see a single heat.

For a visitor, that changes the plan. A flexible stay with an open return ticket is better than a return booked for one specific day. Follow the WSL’s daily updates during the window.

Key points

  • A competition spread over several days, with rest days depending on the swell.
  • A call made each morning by the judges, based on the day’s conditions.

A tour that ends at Pipeline

The Pipe Masters becomes the tour finale again from the 2026 season. The WSL announced this on 2 May 2025, according to Stab Mag, and it removes the mid-season cut and the WSL Finals. The final ranking adds up the best results: nine events out of twelve, according to the Wikipedia season page, which cites the WSL.

The field isn’t published yet. Stab Mag described the expected format in July 2025, but that is a format, not the 2026 field, and no list of 2026 qualifiers was available when this article was written.

Pixidia tip: don’t read a July 2025 format as the line-up of a competition running in December 2026. Wait for the official field.

3. Following the final from the UK

Ten hours behind London

Hawaii is on UTC-10 all year, with no clock change. The UK is on GMT (UTC+0) in December. The gap is 10 hours: a heat starting at 8 am in Hawaii is 6 pm in London, the same day. The WSL hasn’t published its schedule at the time of checking, so the times in the table are calculation examples.

Time difference: 10 hours Hawaii: UTC-10 London: GMT in December
Pixidia tip: set your alarm on London time the night before, then check the day’s schedule on the WSL site. A heat can start early in the morning in Hawaii, which is the afternoon or evening in the UK.

Live stream and TV

According to one 2026 source, the WSL streams Championship Tour events live and free on worldsurfleague.com and in its app. Only one source says so at the time of checking, so confirm access on the WSL site before the event.

TV broadcasters are confirmed country by country, usually as the event approaches. No UK broadcaster was confirmed at the time of checking.

4. Entry formalities: ESTA and the new attestation

What to sort out before you fly

A British passport holder coming to the US for a tourist stay needs an ESTA, or a visa, before departure. The ESTA is the usual route without a visa. The fee isn’t covered here: check it on the official CBP website, esta.cbp.dhs.gov, before you pay.

Since 3 November 2026, anyone flying to or transiting through the US must sign an attestation saying they have not been in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the 21 days before the flight. The UK government’s US entry requirements page sets out this requirement.

For the flight, no nonstop route between London and Honolulu was found for 2026. Trips go via one or more stops, according to the aggregators checked (Momondo, Expedia). These sources don’t give guaranteed prices: compare for your dates.

Pixidia tip: the attestation applies to flights to the US, not just to your final destination. Read it before you tick the box at check-in.

5. Where to stay: North Shore or Waikiki

The trade-off is the journey

Two areas compete for visitors. The North Shore, with Haleiwa, Pupukea, Sunset Beach and the Turtle Bay Resort, is closest to the spot. Waikiki, on the south coast, has more places to stay, but it’s about 40 miles (64 km) from Ehukai Beach Park. A travel guide puts the drive at about an hour without traffic, and two hours on competition mornings.

The North Shore costs more and has fewer places to stay. We didn’t check hotel prices reliably for this article, so compare them for your dates, and book early if your dates are fixed.

For the rest of your Oahu stay, our Honolulu Marathon 2026 guide also covers the shuttles and buses on the island.

Key points

  • North Shore: closest to the spot, but fewer choices and higher prices.
  • Waikiki: more places to stay, but a journey of about an hour, sometimes two in the morning.

6. Getting around: TheBus and the north shore

TheBus fares in force since 1 July 2026

Honolulu’s city bus network, TheBus, changed its fares on 1 July 2026. A notice from the Honolulu Department of Transportation, dated 17 June 2026, gives that date but not the amounts: those come from TheBus’s fare page.

Paying cash costs $3.25 per boarding, with no change given. In cash, seven rides cost $22.75, so the 3-day pass at $20 becomes the better deal from the seventh ride within its validity period.

No official shuttle to Ehukai during the competition has been found. The TheBus route between Honolulu and the north shore, and how often it runs, weren’t checked for this article. Check thebus.org before you go, especially if you plan to rely on the bus on competition mornings.

7. On the ground at Ehukai: parking, safety and sun

Ehukai Beach Park, a small and very busy park

The park has picnic tables, toilets, showers and a lifeguard, according to the gohawaii.com listing. Its small car park is on Kamehameha Highway (Route 83). It fills on competition days and winter weekends.

Get there early. No 2026 parking plan had been published at the time of checking, so don’t count on a space, and obey the road signs. Local press reports that cars parked badly along the road have been ticketed or towed during past Pipeline events, but those articles are several years old.

One guide advises searching for Ehukai Beach Park rather than Banzai Pipeline in a maps app, since the second name can put the pin in the water or on the school next door.

On the sand, spectators follow the heats from about sixty metres out, according to one guide, and binoculars help you read the lineups, the spots where surfers wait for a wave. On days with big swell, the beach is full from the morning, most densely near the water.

Safety: the beach is described as dangerous in winter, when big swells break over a shallow reef. Check with the lifeguard on conditions before going in the water, even in summer. The park’s page also points to Hawaii’s ocean safety site (HIOCEANSAFETY), which tracks swell and wind. Don’t try to swim at Pipeline without experience.

On sun protection: sales of creams containing oxybenzone and octinoxate have been banned in Hawaii without a prescription since 1 January 2021 (Act 104). A 2026 bill would change this rule, but its status wasn’t confirmed at the time of checking. Buy a cream without these filters on the island: compliant products are sold everywhere.

Budget: what to plan for

Accommodation. The state hotel tax rose to 11% on 1 January 2026 (Act 96). Counties can add a surcharge of up to 3%, but the exact rate for Oahu wasn’t confirmed (regional press, 1 January 2026).

Food. General excise tax and the tip are added on top of the price shown. Prices in aggregator guides don’t agree: without an up-to-date menu check, we don’t publish a figure.

Pixidia tip: for bus travel, compare the cash fare with the pass that suits the length of your stay, counting the rides you plan to make.

What other guides don’t tell you

These points appear little or not at all in the guides we checked, or they appear with outdated figures. Each one links to its source and the date it was checked.

  • A UK traveller must sign an attestation on the Democratic Republic of the Congo for flights to the US from 3 November 2026. The traveller confirms they have not been in that country in the 21 days before the flight. UK government, US entry requirements (checked 7 November 2026).
  • TheBus fares changed on 1 July 2026. Cash is $3.25 and the 3-day pass is $20. Some aggregator guides still show earlier amounts. TheBus fare page (checked 7 November 2026).
  • Surf Abu Dhabi was removed from the calendar on 4 September 2026, and the tour drops to 12 events. A July 2025 pre-season listing (Freesurf) still shows that stop. Stab Mag, specialist press (checked 7 November 2026).
  • The Pipe Masters is the final that decides the title, and the WSL Finals no longer exist. Older guides still name the WSL Finals or Trestles as the final. Wikipedia, « 2026 World Surf League » (checked 7 November 2026).
  • Ehukai is a dangerous beach in winter for anyone without experience. The travel guides we read call the spot a « mythical » break with no warning. Ehukai Beach Park listing, gohawaii.com (checked 7 November 2026).

Frequently asked questions

When is the Pipe Masters 2026?

It’s announced for 8 to 20 December 2026, at Banzai Pipeline in Pupukea. It isn’t a fixed date: it’s a competition window, and heats run when the swell allows. Rest days are possible, and no number of competition days is guaranteed. The hawaii.com listing gives these dates, to be confirmed on the WSL site before you book.

Can you watch the competition for free?

According to one specialist blog, there are no tickets and no public stands at Ehukai, and a VIP area is reserved for sponsors and guests. The organiser hasn’t confirmed that entry is free for this event, so don’t take free access for granted before you get there, and arrive early.

How do you follow the competition live from the UK?

According to a 2026 source, the WSL streams Championship Tour events live and free on worldsurfleague.com and in its app. Hawaii is on UTC-10, 10 hours behind London in December. TV broadcasters are confirmed country by country, and no UK broadcaster was confirmed at the time of checking.

How do you get to Ehukai Beach Park from Waikiki?

The spot is about 40 miles (64 km) from Waikiki, via Kamehameha Highway (Route 83). A travel guide puts the drive at about an hour without traffic, and two hours on competition mornings. No official shuttle to Ehukai during the competition has been found, and the TheBus journey to the north shore hasn’t been checked: check thebus.org before you go.

How much does TheBus cost?

Since 1 July 2026, cash is $3.25 per boarding, with no change given. The 24-hour pass costs $7.50, the 3-day pass $20, the 7-day pass $45 and the monthly pass $90. The HOLO card costs $2 at purchase. The amounts come from the TheBus fare page.

Do UK citizens need an ESTA?

Yes, for a tourist stay without a visa, the ESTA is the usual route. The fee isn’t covered here: check it on the official CBP site, esta.cbp.dhs.gov. Since 3 November 2026, you also need to sign the attestation about being in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the 21 days before the flight, as set out on the UK government’s US entry requirements page.

Are there nonstop flights between London and Honolulu?

No nonstop flight was found for 2026. Routes go via one or more stops, according to the aggregators checked, Momondo and Expedia, and the flight-search results we read. These sources are not reliable enough for prices: they don’t give a guaranteed fare, so compare for your dates.

Can you swim at Pipeline?

Not without experience. The beach is described as dangerous in winter, when big swells break over a shallow reef. Check with the park lifeguard on conditions before going in the water, even in summer. The gohawaii.com listing repeats this advice.

Can you use ordinary sunscreen in Hawaii?

No, not if it contains oxybenzone or octinoxate. Their sale has been banned in Hawaii without a prescription since 1 January 2021, under Act 104. A 2026 bill would change this rule, but its status wasn’t confirmed at the time of checking. Creams without these filters are sold all over the island, and that’s the place to buy them.
