The Plymouth, Massachusetts Thanksgiving parade takes place on Saturday, November 21, 2026, leaving Plymouth Rock at 10:00 a.m. with free entry. It comes five days before Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26, when Pilgrim Hall’s posted hours end at 1:30 p.m. and the National Day of Mourning starts at noon.

Checked on against the official sources cited (the parade organizer, the museums, the City of Plymouth notice from 2023).

Plymouth, Massachusetts, built its identity around the story of 1621, and its organizer claims more than 150,000 spectators (an estimate) for its Thanksgiving parade. In 2026, the parade takes place on Saturday, November 21, while the holiday falls on Thursday, November 26. These two dates are not the same, and part of the program is not yet published. This guide separates what is confirmed, what still needs confirmation and what belongs to local tradition, with the date each source was checked.

1. The weekend at a glance

Saturday brings the parade and the waterfront activities together. On Thursday, downtown slows down: the museums open in the morning, and the National Day of Mourning at noon shapes the day. The table gives the details of each time slot, with its status as of October 24, 2026.

Plimoth Patuxet is a living history museum. It recreates a 17th-century English village and a reconstructed Wampanoag village, where costumed interpreters bring the daily life of 1620 to life. It is the best starting point for placing the 1621 encounter in context before you watch the Saturday parade. Hours and 2026 prices on plimoth.org, checked on October 24, 2026.

On Viator, the « Plimoth Patuxet Admission with Mayflower II & Plimoth Grist Mill » ticket comes in several options. The package that includes the Mayflower II and the Grist Mill costs €41.78 per adult for November 21, 2026 (based on 2 adults), and Plimoth Patuxet admission alone is €31.79. These prices are in euros, while the museum’s prices are in dollars: compare the total before you book. The ticket states that the Mayflower II is about 3 miles north of Plimoth Patuxet and that you need a car to get there from the site. Prices and availability checked on October 24, 2026.

Highlights

  • Living history site: $35 adult, $31.50 senior, $20 child. Members enter free.
  • Heritage Pass: $46 adult for Plimoth Patuxet and the Mayflower II, valid for the entire 2026 season.
  • Mayflower II: $19 adult, a full-size replica of the ship that carried the colonists in 1620, moored in Plymouth harbor.
Pixidia tip: Sunday, November 29 is the last day of the season. If you visit the museum on Saturday, keep Sunday in reserve in case morning rain changes your plans.

3. The Saturday, November 21, 2026 parade

A free parade through the historic center

Free entry Saturday, November 21, 2026 Departure at 10:00 a.m. Cold and damp in November

The parade traces American history from the 17th to the 21st century, with marching bands, folk groups and period floats rather than giant balloons. According to the organizer, WCVB broadcasts it, and Wikipedia dates its start to 1996. The NRPA estimated 100,000 to 150,000 visitors in 2013, a rough order of magnitude rather than a count. Official parade page, checked on October 24, 2026.

Highlights

  • Opening ceremony at 9:00 a.m. at Pilgrim Memorial Park, 79 Water Street, then departure at 10:00 a.m. from Plymouth Rock.
  • Route along Water Street, Main Street Extension, Main Street and Court Street, finishing near Court Street and Nelson Street.
  • Watch on foot: there are no paid grandstands, so just find a good spot along the route.
Pixidia tip: guides suggest arriving early and aiming for the lower part of Water Street to see the front of the parade. In 2025, cold morning rain made the brick sidewalks slippery, so wear shoes with good grip.

The 2025 parade, held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, drew thousands of spectators in the rain, with a theme tied to the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, according to the Boston Globe. The 2026 program has not been detailed by the organizer yet: the date and start time are confirmed, and the rest of the program will be posted on its official page.

4. Thursday, November 26: museums in the morning, National Day of Mourning at noon

On Thanksgiving Day, a downtown that slows down

Pilgrim Hall until 1:30 p.m. National Day of Mourning at noon Thursday, November 26, 2026 Plimoth dinner: to be confirmed

Pilgrim Hall, at 75 Court Street, is open on Thanksgiving Day until 1:30 p.m., with last entry at 12:30 p.m., according to the museum. The See Plymouth Thanksgiving Day page lists 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for the same day. We use the museum’s hours, since they prevail, but check before you leave. Its 17th-century collections include objects linked to the Mayflower, and the adult ticket costs $15. pilgrimhall.org, checked on October 24, 2026.

The National Day of Mourning has been organized since 1970 by the United American Indians of New England (UAINE). The gathering takes place at noon on Cole’s Hill, above Plymouth Rock, and runs until about 3:00 p.m. according to the previous edition. UAINE presents it as a day of remembrance and of protest against the racism and oppression suffered by Indigenous peoples. No 2026 statement from the Wampanoag governments has been found, so this guide attributes no position to them for this year. uaine.org, checked on October 24, 2026.

The Pilgrim Progress costumed procession started at 10:00 a.m. from the Mayflower Society House according to the 2025 listing, and ends with a short service. Its 2026 edition is not confirmed, and its exact route is not published: check the program with the tourist office before you come for it.

Dinner at Plimoth Patuxet on Thanksgiving requires a reservation, at 508-746-1622. Third-party listings announce a « Story of Thanksgiving » at 2:30 p.m. on November 26, along with a « Homestyle » buffet the same day, with no confirmation from the museum.

Outside Plimoth, most independent restaurants close or only take reservations on Thursday. A See Plymouth document published in October 2025, « Thanksgiving Day Restaurants & Activities, » lists 71° West Atlantic Steakhouse, Anna’s Harborside Grille, CabbyShack, Shelly’s Tea Room and Tavern on the Wharf. It is a secondary source, read in extract: no 2026 hours have been verified, and these names may have changed. The See Plymouth PDF, checked on October 24, 2026.

Highlights

  • Pilgrim Hall, 75 Court Street: $15 adult, $12 senior or student, $35 for a family.
  • Cole’s Hill: the National Day of Mourning gathering takes place at noon, open to everyone present.
Pixidia tip: book the dinner before you leave Boston, then call the day before to confirm your restaurant’s hours.

5. Getting there from Boston and parking

Plymouth is about an hour’s drive south of Boston without traffic, via I-93 South and then Route 3 South. On Thursday, November 26, Route 3 between Braintree and Plymouth is one of the busiest roads in Massachusetts: MassDOT expected congestion from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. that day in 2022.

No train serves Plymouth. The station has been closed since April 5, 2021; the weekend service on the Kingston Line, which resumed on July 3, 2021, serves Kingston. Journey planners that show a direct train to Plymouth actually lead to Kingston (Wikipedia, Kingston Line, checked on October 24, 2026). The Plymouth & Brockton bus runs from South Station on its Hyannis and Woods Hole lines, but the Plymouth stop and holiday schedules are not verified: check p-b.com before you book.

6. Budget for a full weekend

The parade costs nothing. For one adult, the sourced items add up as follows: Heritage Pass at $46 (Plimoth Patuxet and the Mayflower II, less than the two tickets bought separately, $35 and $19), Pilgrim Hall at $15, and the Plymouth Philharmonic concert on Friday, November 20 at $45 plus a $1 food service fee. Total: $107, not including lodging, meals and transportation. Without the concert, the total drops to $61. The table lists the official 2026 season prices, in U.S. dollars.

Lodging remains unknown: no reliable average was found for the nights of November 20 to 22 and November 25 to 26, 2026. Compare rates directly on booking sites, knowing that Thanksgiving weekend is high season locally.

For the Thanksgiving meal, the 2026 price has not been published. Third-party listings show $42.99 to $92.34, and the museum’s 2025 group menu listed a buffet at $27.50 per person. The latter is a 2025 group rate, not a 2026 price.

7. Depending on your profile

  • Traveling with family. The parade is free and can be watched on foot. Plimoth Patuxet costs $20 for a child, and Pilgrim Hall offers a $35 family rate. Pack warm layers: the average November night is around 36°F (2°C).
  • As a couple, history lovers. The Heritage Pass, at $46, combines Plimoth Patuxet and the Mayflower II. Add Pilgrim Hall on Thursday morning, before 12:30 p.m., then the National Day of Mourning at noon.
  • On a budget. The minimum fits into the free parade, the $15 Pilgrim Hall ticket and a bus ride from South Station. Lodging is the most uncertain cost: with no reliable figure, compare several nights before booking.
  • For a first visit to the region. Stay at least one night to see the Saturday morning parade without rushing. By car, Plymouth is about an hour from Boston without traffic; by bus, the Plymouth stop and holiday schedules are not verified.
  • With reduced mobility. We have no verified data on the accessibility of the sites or of the sidewalks along the parade route. Check with the museums before you go, and the City of Plymouth’s notices for closed streets.

8. A possible itinerary

This itinerary is not an official schedule. It combines the confirmed time slots and the openings checked on October 24, 2026.

  1. Saturday, November 21, morning. Arrive before 9:00 a.m. for the ceremony, then follow the parade from Water Street starting at 10:00 a.m.
  2. Saturday, November 21, afternoon. Head to Plimoth Patuxet, open 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Drum and Bugle Corps Alumni concert, announced around 5:00 p.m., has no published venue or details: do not build it into your schedule.
  3. Thursday, November 26, morning. Stop at Pilgrim Hall before 12:30 p.m., the last entry of the day according to the museum. At noon, go to Cole’s Hill for the National Day of Mourning.
  4. Thursday, November 26, afternoon. Book the Plimoth dinner (508-746-1622) or a restaurant from the list in section 4, confirming its hours for the day.
  5. Sunday, November 29. Last day of the Plimoth Patuxet season, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., if you stay until the end.

What other guides don’t tell you

These points come from official sources, organizers or the tourist office, checked on October 24, 2026. They correct the generalist guides and the online answers that circulate on the subject.

  • The 2026 parade is on Saturday, November 21. Guides often say « the Saturday before Thanksgiving » without giving a date. The organizer’s page mentions the 21st in its text, but its structured data markup carries November 26: only trust the visible text. usathanksgiving.com, checked on October 24, 2026.
  • The National Day of Mourning falls on Thursday, November 26, 2026, at noon. One reference calendar gives November 27, which does not match the UAINE page. uaine.org, checked on October 24, 2026.
  • Pilgrim Hall: 1:30 p.m. or 5:00 p.m. on Thursday? The museum lists opening until 1:30 p.m., last entry 12:30 p.m., and that is the schedule kept here. The See Plymouth Thanksgiving Day page lists 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.: the gap is not resolved, so check before you go. pilgrimhall.org and See Plymouth, checked on October 24, 2026.
  • Plimoth’s 2026 prices are published by the museum. Adult $35 on site, Mayflower II $19, Heritage Pass $46. Third-party listings showing $42.99 to $92.34 for dinners do not reflect these prices. plimoth.org, checked on October 24, 2026.
  • The 2026 program is only partly published. The Philharmonic concert is set for Friday, November 20 at 7:00 p.m., at $45 a seat. The Drum and Bugle Corps Alumni concert is announced for Saturday, November 21 around 5:00 p.m., with no venue or details published, and the 2026 Harvest Market is not confirmed. plymouthphil.org, checked on October 24, 2026.
  • Book the Plimoth dinner, or call for remaining seats. The museum requires a reservation for its Thanksgiving meal. According to See Plymouth, tickets opened to non-members on June 1, year not specified: that date has passed. seeplymouth.com, checked on October 24, 2026.

An encounter and a shared meal between English colonists and the Wampanoag did take place in Plymouth in 1621.
