Winter Wonderland at Hyde Park isn’t free: you need to book a timed slot to get in. A ticket costs £1 per person in an Off-Peak slot, £5.50 in Standard and £8.25 in Peak, booking fees included. The season runs from 19 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, and the park is closed on 25 December. For a family of four, budget roughly £110 to £240 for rides and food, excluding transport. The rides, more than the ticket, make up most of the bill.
Winter Wonderland is London’s biggest winter funfair, and it charges at every step. Set up in Hyde Park for six and a half weeks, it charges for entry, then for each ride, then for food. Here is what a visit really costs, with the official prices kept apart from the figures that third-party guides publish for 2026.
1. Is Winter Wonderland free? The entry ticket
The entry ticket, slot by slot
Everyone needs a ticket, children included: the official Winter Wonderland site says so in plain terms. Children aged 2 and under also need a ticket, issued at no charge. Tickets are booked online for a one-hour slot, between 10am and 8pm, with last entry at 9:30pm. The prices shown include the booking fee.
The price depends on the slot: £1 in Off-Peak (Monday to Thursday in November, according to the official page), £5.50 in Standard, and £8.25 in Peak for evenings and weekends. The official guide also uses the word « free » next to the Off-Peak slot. It doesn’t mean you can walk in for nothing: a ticket is still required, and the £1 is charged.
Worth knowing
- Booking is required, Off-Peak included, because slots sell out in advance.
- The cheapest slot, Off-Peak, applies to weekdays in November.
- Some mornings open later (11am, noon or 2pm), so the 10am slot may not be available.
To fill the day another way, a guided walk of about 90 minutes takes in the same Christmas lights and markets across central London. It passes through Covent Garden, the streets from Ebenezer Scrooge’s story and Trafalgar Square, with a mulled wine included. It is booked separately from your park ticket, and cancellation is free of charge.
2. Paid attractions: where the bill builds up

Giant wheel, ice rink, shows: the prices to know
Each attraction has its own price grid, with the same Off-Peak, Standard and Peak split. Prices for the Gandeys show are published on the official listing. Those for the giant wheel, the ice rink and the Magical Ice Kingdom come from 2026 family guides: confirm them at the box office before you budget.
- Gandeys K-Pop Dragon Circus (55-minute show, official listing): £13.75 in Off-Peak, £17.60 in Standard and £19.80 in Peak for an adult. For a family: £41.80, £57.20 or £66.
- Giant wheel (70 metres, about 10 minutes): family of four at £26.40 in Off-Peak, £30.80 in Standard and £39.60 in Peak. The 2026 adult fare was not published in the sources we checked.
- Ice rink: skates are included. Family of four from £37.40 in Off-Peak, £46.20 in Standard and £55 in Peak. Children aged 12 and under must skate with an adult, and children aged 3 and under are not admitted.
- Bar Ice (20 minutes and a cocktail): £17.05 in Off-Peak, £18.70 in Standard and £19.80 in Peak per person, according to the official listing. For ages 12 and over only, after 7pm.
- Magical Ice Kingdom (20-minute ice experience): about £32 to £49.60 for a family, depending on the slot, according to a third-party guide that the official site does not confirm.
- Santa Land: outside the pass, the Time Machine Coaster costs £3 per ride for a child aged 12 and under, and £4 per ride from age 13. The 2026 price of the Santa Land Unlimited Ride Pass is not shown on the official page.
- Coaster Pass, new for 2026: £43.10 according to a secondary source, for five roller coasters.
3. Real budget: three visitor profiles
What a visit costs, by profile and slot
The figures below are scenarios built from the prices we read, excluding transport. Food costs are estimates with no published source. For couples, the adult fares for the giant wheel and the ice rink are 2025 benchmarks, since no 2026 fare has been published.
- Family of four, a Tuesday in November in Off-Peak (giant wheel and ice rink): about £108, including £40 of estimated food.
- Family of four, a Saturday evening in Peak (giant wheel, ice rink and Magical Ice Kingdom): about £237, including £60 of estimated food.
- Couple, a Tuesday in November in Off-Peak (giant wheel and ice rink, mulled wine included): between £66 and £97.
- Couple, a Saturday evening in Peak (ice bar and giant wheel): between £112 and £138.
- Solo visitor: £20 to £45 for a short visit, £40 to £70 for a full day with two attractions.
4. Getting there, transport and 25 December

Getting there without going round in circles
The official site recommends three stations close to the entrances: Marble Arch (Central line), Hyde Park Corner (Piccadilly line) and Knightsbridge (Piccadilly line). To avoid the busiest ones, it also mentions Bond Street, Victoria and Paddington, the last under 20 minutes’ walk away. The site warns that the recommended stations can close when crowds are heavy.
- East Red Gate: Bond Street or Marble Arch.
- South Blue Gate: Hyde Park Corner, Green Park or Victoria.
- Gold Gate and Red Gate: taxis and minicabs on Park Lane.
We don’t recommend driving: Hyde Park has traffic restrictions, and parking is under heavy pressure in December.
25 and 26 December
On 25 December the park is closed, and public transport doesn’t run: no Tube, buses or suburban trains. Taxis, minicabs and Santander Cycles remain available. On 26 December, a Saturday, the Elizabeth line does not run. Hours for those days, as well as for 24 and 31 December, are not published for 2026: check the booking calendar and tfl.gov.uk.
Visiting from abroad
Most visitors from Europe, the US, Australia and Canada need an electronic travel authorisation (ETA) rather than a visa, and that includes French visitors. British and Irish citizens don’t need one. The ETA costs £20 per person, and every traveller needs their own, babies and children included. The fee has been £20 since 8 April 2026. Apply on GOV.UK or in the official UK ETA app, not on third-party sites that add their own fees.
5. A much-debated event, and alternatives without a ticket
Why Winter Wonderland divides London
The Independent, republished by AOL, calls the event « a festive treat or a living hell ». Criticism focuses on prices, crowds, noise and the impact on residents of Bayswater, Mayfair and Knightsbridge. On the other side, the Royal Parks, which grant the space for the event, say the income helps protect London’s eight royal parks. Producer IMG, present since 2015, cites 22 million cumulative visitors over eight years.
The debate won’t be settled in one visit. You can go with your eyes open and enjoy the lights, or pick an alternative without a ticket.
The same setting, without the ticket
- Southbank Centre Winter Market: no ticket needed to walk along the Queen’s Walk, with mulled wine and street food, from early November to early January (dates indicative).
- Covent Garden Christmas Market: no ticket needed, from about mid-November to early January 2027.
- Willen On Ice, near Milton Keynes (outside London): ice rink with skates included, adults from £18.90 in Off-Peak according to the lake’s official site.
