Val d’Isère hosts the men’s giant slalom on Saturday 12 December 2026 and the men’s slalom on Sunday 13 December, on the Face de Bellevarde. Courchevel announces its women’s night slalom for Tuesday 22 December 2026, subject to FIS confirmation. Entry there is free, while Val d’Isère’s official ticketing offers packages from €20 to €600.

Checked on against the official sources cited (organisers, the event ticketing page, a specialist calendar).

December 2026 brings two stops of the Alpine Ski World Cup to France, ten days apart. Val d’Isère hosts the men’s giant slalom and slalom on 12 and 13 December, then Courchevel stages the women’s night slalom on 22 December. The two resorts are not linked by a ski area, so where you stay matters more than the distance between them.

1. The race calendar

The three dates do not rest on the same level of certainty. For Val d’Isère, the resort publishes the races on its official page, and specialist calendars repeat them. For Courchevel, the organiser announces the night slalom at the Stade Émile-Allais. The status still needs careful wording: ski-alpin.fr says the race is on the FIS calendar, while the French-language Wikipedia page for the same race still shows « TBD ».

The Courchevel race is therefore presented as announced, subject to confirmation of the FIS calendar. If you book accommodation for 22 December, choose a flexible cancellation policy. Start times are set by each organiser, resort by resort.

Tickets from €20 to €600 (undated page) Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 December Giant slalom, then men’s slalom Mid-December 2026

The Face de Bellevarde hosts the giant slalom on Saturday 12 December 2026, then the slalom on Sunday 13 December. The resort announces runs at 9:30 am and 1:00 pm; the start time for each day is to be confirmed on valdisere.com. The public arrival window is announced as 8:30 am to 3:00 pm according to valdisere.com, “subject to favourable weather conditions” (valdisere.com, checked on 18 October 2026).

Highlights

  • Giant slalom on Saturday 12 December, slalom on Sunday 13 December 2026, on the same piste.
  • Runs announced at 9:30 am and 1:00 pm; the start time for each day is to be confirmed.
  • Free shuttles from car park P1 to the Rond-point des Pistes.
Pixidia tip: arrive as soon as the welcome area opens at 8:30 am, and leave the car at car park P1. The free shuttles to the Rond-point des Pistes are the easiest way to get close to the piste, rather than driving up to the foot of the Face de Bellevarde.

Outside the event area: the activity below takes place in Chamonix, at the foot of the Mont Blanc massif. It does not leave from Val d’Isère or Courchevel, and our search found no Viator activity meeting our criteria in either resort.

Paragliding tandem flight in Chamonix – take-off from Plan-Praz €179 per person (based on 2 adults), plus €18 in Viator fees (€197 in total), checked on 18 October 2026; open only on 19, 20, 21 and 22 December, closed on 12 and 13 December · ★ 4.9 (133 Viator reviews)

Tickets: what costs money in Val d’Isère

In Val d’Isère, access to the races goes through an official ticketing page. It lists four packages, from the FAN ZONE at €20 up to CLUB ET BRUNCH at €600. The page is not dated, and it does not say whether these prices cover the whole weekend or a single day, nor what each package includes: read the details on the ticketing site before you buy.

The race ticket and the ski pass are two separate purchases: the ticketing page does not say whether a pass gives access to the race, and we do not assume it does.

On race day, the resort announces public access from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm according to valdisere.com. The ticket from the official ticketing page and the ski pass remain two separate purchases, as noted above. Also allow time for the trip from car park P1 to the Rond-point des Pistes.

3. Courchevel: the women’s night slalom at the Stade Émile-Allais

Stade Émile-Allais, Courchevel 1850

Free entry Tuesday 22 December 2026 Night race, two runs Late December 2026

The women’s night slalom takes place at the Stade Émile-Allais. Entry is free, according to the event page published by Courchevel (courchevel.com, checked on 18 October 2026). The organiser’s programme plans a village from 4:00 pm, a first run around 5:45 pm and a second run around 8:45 pm, “subject to change”.

Highlights

  • Free entry to the stadium, according to the organiser.
  • Two runs under floodlights, with entertainment in between.
  • Entertainment at the finish area: DJs, partners and a flower ceremony, according to the 2025 edition programme.
  • A resort used to top-level racing: men’s events were held there in March 2026.
Pixidia tip: the date is announced, but not yet locked in by the FIS calendar. Keep a spare day in your trip, and check the programme on courchevel.com the evening before you leave.

The times announced for 2026 are not confirmed by any other source we checked, so do not take them as fixed. The night slalom of the reference edition, on 30 January 2025, started at around 5:00 pm and finished around 10:30 pm according to the programme published by Les 3 Vallées. Times change from one edition to the next, so a guide that repeats them for 2026 would mislead you (les3vallees.com).

The 2025 programme mentions a partner village, DJs between the runs and a ceremony at the foot of the finish, whose time varies between documents (2025 edition programme). The 2026 organiser had not confirmed all of them at the date of our checks.

Courchevel hosted top-level men’s races in March 2026: a super-G on 13 and 15 March, and a downhill on 14 March on the L’Éclipse piste (les3vallees.com). Those races are not the December ones.

4. Getting there: airports, stations and the drive between the two resorts

The two resorts do not have the same gateway. For Val d’Isère, transfer providers mainly cite Chambéry and Geneva airports. For Courchevel, the sources we checked mainly document transfers from Lyon-Saint-Exupéry. The durations below are those announced by the providers, not guaranteed.

Journey times announced by transfer providers to Val d’Isère and Courchevel
FromToAnnounced journey timeNote
Chambéry airportVal d’IsèreAbout 1 hour 50 minutes by private carShared shuttles from €70 per person, season announced as “16 December to 14 April” (year not specified)

Lyon-Saint-Exupéry airportCourchevel1 hour 50 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutesAbout 177 to 180 km, roads sometimes snowy in winter

Source: alps2alps (Chambéry), alps2alps (Geneva), Blacklane and traveldailynews, checked on 18 October 2026.

From Chambéry, alps2alps announces about 1 hour 50 minutes by private car to Val d’Isère. The same provider offers shared shuttles from €70 per person during the winter season. From Lyon, estimates for Courchevel range from 1 hour 50 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes depending on the provider: Blacklane says a little over two hours for about 180 km, J2Ski counts 2 hours 10 minutes, and traveldailynews mentions about 2 hours 30 minutes in winter, on snowy roads (J2Ski). These gaps matter: allow a wide margin on race day.

By train, the nearest TGV (high-speed rail) stations are Bourg-Saint-Maurice for Val d’Isère and Moûtiers for Courchevel. We did not check winter timetables for bus and shuttle links: check them before you leave, as a service can be reduced outside the tourist season.

There is no ski link between the two resorts: the ski areas are separate, and the trip is made by road through the Tarentaise valley. For that drive, plan on about two hours depending on conditions. This is an announced duration, with no precise route given by a provider. Treat it as a half day in its own right if you want to see both races, and check road conditions before you set off.

5. Staying: accommodation, lift passes and lift opening

We do not give a price for hotel nights. None of the sources we checked gives a reliable accommodation rate for World Cup week, and we have no availability data to publish. Decide early whether you want to stay close to the stadium or to the Face de Bellevarde.

To choose a base, distinguish three areas. Courchevel 1850 is the closest to the Stade Émile-Allais. Courchevel Village and Le Praz are further down, with a less direct route to the race site. In Val d’Isère, the centre of the resort is the most practical starting point for the Face de Bellevarde. In both cases, the night race ends late: plan your return without a car if you have been drinking or if the roads are snowy.

For skiing between races, the early-season price is indicative. Les 3 Vallées lists a day pass at €84.20 for the 2026-27 season, according to alti-mag, checked on 18 October 2026. Another aggregator shows a different figure: check the price on the ski area’s own site. The prices we found for the Espace Killy are undated, so we do not repeat them.

Courchevel’s lifts are due to open “early December”. The sources do not agree on the exact day: guide-ski gives 4 December, and another date is in circulation. We therefore use “early December” until the resort publishes a date. For Val d’Isère, an opening at the end of November is circulating on unofficial sites; we did not find that date on an official source, and we do not state it.

On snow, seasonal outlooks point to a snow deficit this winter, based on a trend from the European centre ECMWF noted in October 2026. These trends are not forecasts for a specific date: they say nothing about the state of the piste on 12, 13 or 22 December. Keep a margin in your trip, and check the resorts’ snow reports in race week.

For the opening of the season at other resorts, read our article on ski resort opening dates for 2026-27. If you want to follow another leg of the season, the Val Gardena and Alta Badia leg covers the Alpine Ski World Cup in Italy.

6. Budget: what you pay for, what is free and what is still unknown

The budget for a World Cup weekend breaks down into five items. The amounts below are those checked on 18 October 2026, with their sources. For everything else, we give no figure because we have no reliable source.

  • Entry to the Courchevel stadium: free, according to the event page (courchevel.com).
  • Val d’Isère tickets: from €20 to €600 depending on the package, on the official ticketing page.
  • Shared shuttle from Chambéry: from €70 per person, according to alps2alps, price to be rechecked.
  • Day pass for Les 3 Vallées: €84.20 for the 2026-27 season, according to alti-mag, indicative price.
  • Accommodation: not priced in this article, for the reasons given above.

On a tight budget, go to Courchevel for the race, where entry is free, and buy a pass only if you ski. In Val d’Isère, the €20 FAN ZONE package is not detailed on the page we checked: read what it includes before you buy.

7. By traveller type

With family

With children, Courchevel is often the simplest choice: there is no ticket to buy, and a two-run race that you can watch in the evening. Bring warm clothes and a snack, as the second run is late.

As a couple or with friends

A weekend in Val d’Isère lets you see the giant slalom on Saturday and the slalom on Sunday, on the same piste. Buy your tickets online before race day, on the official ticketing page, and compare packages according to what you want to see from the area you choose.

On a small budget

Aim for Courchevel for the race, which is free. A pass is only useful if you ski. Compare the cost of a shared transfer, from €70 per person from Chambéry according to alps2alps, with the cost of a rental car.

For a first time

If you have never attended a World Cup race, arrive before the welcome area opens in Val d’Isère and find the Rond-point des Pistes for the shuttle. In Courchevel, check the programme on the organiser’s site the evening before.

With reduced mobility

Our sources contain no verified information on accessibility of the stands, the stadiums or the shuttles for people with reduced mobility. Write to the organiser before you book, and plan for assistance on shuttle trips or walks along snowy routes.

8. On-the-ground tips and mistakes to avoid

  • Do not assume access is free everywhere. Courchevel has free entry, while Val d’Isère runs a ticketing system.
  • Do not plan to ski from one resort to the other in a day. The ski areas are separate, and the trip is made by road.
  • No shared shuttle frequency is published for Val d’Isère. Do not time the race around a shuttle until the provider has confirmed it. Shuttles from Chambéry are announced for “16 December to 14 April”, with no year given, from €70 per person: check the year and the timetable on the provider’s page.
  • Keep a margin on the road. The distance between the two resorts is counted in driving hours, not kilometres.

To organise your days between the two resorts, the Pixidia planner helps you line up transfers, race times and drive times in one plan.

What other guides don’t tell you

Here are four gaps between guides and official sources, checked against the websites of the organisers, the ticketing page, a tourist office and specialist calendars, consulted on 18 October 2026.

  • Courchevel’s 2026 times are not those of past editions. The programme gives 4:00 pm for the village, 5:45 pm and 8:45 pm for the runs, “subject to change” (courchevel.com, consulted on 18 October 2026). The 2025 programme gave a start at around 5:00 pm.
  • The Val d’Isère race is not free. The official ticketing page lists packages from €20 to €600, whereas entry is free in Courchevel (official ticketing page, consulted on 18 October 2026).
  • The ticketing page does not say what each package includes. It does not specify whether the prices cover the whole weekend, what each package contains, or whether a ski pass gives access to the race (official ticketing page, consulted on 18 October 2026).
  • The status of the Courchevel race is not uniform. ski-alpin.fr lists it on the FIS calendar, while the French-language Wikipedia still shows “TBD” for the same race (Wikipedia, consulted on 18 October 2026). A gap to flag, to be checked with the International Ski Federation.
