Dolomites lifts are due to open on Saturday 28 November 2026 at Plan de Corones, and on Friday 4 December 2026 at Alta Badia, Val Gardena and Val di Fassa. Most resorts close on 4 April 2027, Plan de Corones on 11 April and Arabba / Marmolada on 18 April. Cortina d’Ampezzo has not published any date.

Checked on against the sources cited in this article (dolomiti.it, kronplatz.com, valgardena.it, skiresort.com, Autonomous Province of Bolzano as relayed).

The Dolomites ski lifts open at the end of November 2026, but not all on the same day. Several resorts ski under one pass, the Dolomiti Superski, and their dates differ. This article gives the opening date of each sector with its level of reliability, the pass prices, the World Cup calendar and practical tips: getting there, budget, a typical day. When a date has not been published, we say so rather than guess it.

When do the slopes open, resort by resort

The consortium published its start-of-season calendar, relayed by dolomiti.it on 6 October 2026, in two waves: Saturday 28 November for part of the resorts, Friday 4 December for the rest. Several resorts give dates that differ by a day or two depending on the source. Each piece of information is ranked on four levels:

  • Official, relayed: a statement from the consortium or a resort, picked up by a media outlet that cites its origin.
  • Dated, third party: press, aggregator or partner site, with a known publication date.
  • Forecast: a projected date, or dates that conflict between sources.
  • Not officially published: no consortium source. We do not give a firm date.

The consortium dates therefore come from the dolomiti.it relay. Check the resort you are aiming for on its own website before booking accommodation for the first days.

Three gaps matter. Selva di Val Gardena could open around 27 November according to alpy.com, while the Val Gardena domain stays dated 4 December. For Arabba and Marmolada, sources give either 28 November or 4 December: we do not settle it.

For a stay that starts at the end of November, Plan de Corones and San Martino di Castrozza are the resorts whose date rests on a relayed statement. Alta Badia, Val Gardena and the Fassa valley form the 4 December group, linked by the Sellaronda. To compare with the French resorts, see our 2026-2027 ski resort opening dates guide.

Passo Gardena: no restrictions this winter

Open this winter Measure planned from 2027 Project not adopted Sellaronda loop of about 40 km

Passo Gardena links Val Gardena and Alta Badia, and is part of the Sellaronda loop. According to the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, as relayed by indebergen.nl (18 August 2026) and insella.it (19 August 2026), no traffic restriction applies to the pass during the 2026-2027 season. No booking is needed to cross it, and no quota is planned this year. What starts in September 2026 is a digital simulation of traffic scenarios, with no effect on the road.

What remains a project

A limited-traffic zone, seasonal and local, is planned from 2027, from May to October. The project covers the summer season, is driven by the municipalities of Corvara and Selva di Val Gardena together with the province’s technical network, and is not adopted as of 22 October 2026. The parameters reported by insella.it and ladige.it, namely 150 vehicles per day for day-trippers and online booking, date from April and July 2026 and remain to be confirmed; the fee is to be confirmed on the official site.

Off the slopes, for anyone who is not skiing that day: a private full-day tour by car from Bolzano. According to the product description, the route passes through Ortisei and Val Gardena. The Viator listing gives a duration of 360 minutes. As of 22 October 2026, it is available on 114 of the 122 days between 4 December 2026 and 4 April 2027.

World Cup: an indicative programme around Christmas

Three World Cup stops touch the Dolomites this winter. The programme for Val Gardena and Alta Badia is indicative: it must still be confirmed by the organising committees. La Volata is announced by its organiser. Our guide to the World Cup in Val Gardena and Alta Badia details the schedule of the two December races.

New for 2026-2027: what is confirmed and what is not

The consortium’s autumn statement, relayed by dolomiti.it on 6 October 2026, announces the following works. They are the most solid items of this season, because they come from the consortium itself.

Announced by the consortium

  • Plan de Corones: new Lumen and Dolomiti runs, a Weiden skiweg (nature to be confirmed: cross-country skiing or walking), and existing runs adapted.
  • Alta Badia: a new 5c run at Arlara, and the replacement of several ageing lifts.
  • San Martino di Castrozza: the Larici run at Alpe Tognola, the Dolomia Funslope and a requalification of the snowpark.

Reported by the press, not confirmed

Announcements picked up by the media mention a ten-seat gondola on Kronplatz, with an intermediate station, an eight-seat chairlift at Valdaora, an eight-seat gondola at Ruis and an eight-seat chairlift at Obereggen. We do not present these lifts as open: their commissioning is not confirmed for this winter.

Under construction, no commissioning date

The link between San Martino di Castrozza and the Passo Rolle is under construction. One source gives 2027-2028, others give no date. At Buffaure, a gondola is due to replace a chairlift, and the Gitschberg plans a chairlift replacement: no source gives a confirmed date for this winter.

Cortina, Civetta and the sectors without an official date

Cortina d’Ampezzo is the clearest case. The consortium writes « in aggiornamento » on its calendar, and no opening date is published. Third-party sites disagree: skiresort.com gives 21 November 2026 for the opening and 2 May 2027 for the closing, skiinfo.fr gives 29 November. We give no date and are waiting for the consortium to publish one.

The Civetta sector, at Alleghe, has a separate situation. The Civetta – Cinque Torri link project is contested. According to the Linkiesta article of 21 February 2024, the Arabba and Sellaronda section has been put on hold after local opposition, and the environmental impact study has not been carried out.

Getting there: air, rail, road and motorway vignette

By air. A direct flight Paris-CDG – Bolzano is announced for the winter season. The date of the first departure is in the FAQ below, and the timetables are in our article on the direct Paris-Bolzano flight.

By train. The line serves Bolzano, Bressanone and Fortezza. To reach the valleys, a bus takes over.

By car. From Innsbruck, Val Gardena is about 120 km away, roughly two hours’ drive. This is an order of magnitude, to check on a map. Italy has no national motorway vignette: the toll network is paid at the toll booth. Austria requires a vignette on its motorways.

Budget: the costs outside the pass

Outside the pass (detailed above), the following items should be confirmed before you leave. For each one, the source of the figure is given.

  • South Tyrol tourist tax: according to sudtirol.com, from 1 January 2025, €3.00 per person per night in 4-star and above, €2.50 in 3-star and 5-flower/sun, €2.00 for other accommodation. Minors up to 14 years of age are exempt.
  • Austrian vignette: required on Austrian motorways. According to ÖAMTC, the 2026 car prices are €12.80 for 10 days, €32 for two months and €106.80 for a year. Check the price on the official Austrian site before you leave.
  • Guided Sellaronda tour: the price, for a group or a private day, to be confirmed on the official site.
  • Private lessons at Alta Badia: the hourly price to be confirmed on the official site.

For accommodation, the price of a night varies a lot by category and season: ask for the rate on your exact dates.

Profiles: planning the stay around your situation

A stay built around your profile

First time on skis

Alta Badia and Val Gardena are in the 4 December group. The Dolomiti Superski pass gives access to the network linked by the Sellaronda. Private lessons at Alta Badia can be booked through platforms; the hourly price is to be confirmed on the official site.

Family with children

The child pass is €325 and the junior pass €665 on the Dolomiti Superski rates, with a child and junior discount when bought at the same time as a parent.

Confident skier

The Sellaronda links Val Gardena, Alta Badia, Arabba and the Fassa valley, over 40 to 44 km depending on the source. The circuit requires the Dolomiti Superski pass for its lifts.

Non-skiing companions

The car tour presented in the Passo Gardena section describes a route through Ortisei and Val Gardena (Viator description).

Tight budget

Plan de Corones and San Martino are announced from 28 November according to dolomiti.it, ahead of the rest of the network (gap flagged for part of San Martino: 5 December according to skiinfo.fr). The Kronplatz-only pass costs €960 in advance, against €990 for the Dolomiti Superski pass, until 24 December 2026.

A typical day on the slopes

For a day on the Sellaronda, the loop covers 40 to 44 km, around six hours. Third-party sources advise setting off before 10:00 am and crossing the last pass before 3:30 pm: check these times on the spot. The Dolomiti Superski pass is required for the circuit’s lifts.

The rifugi, the mountain restaurants, generally open from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, but hours vary from one domain to another: check them on the spot so you are not left without lunch when you come down.

For off-piste, the basic kit is an avalanche transceiver (DVA), a shovel and a probe. The avalanche bulletin is published by the Province of Bolzano, on lawinen.report.

What other guides don’t tell you

  • Passo Gardena. The ladige.it guide announced an autumn trial: ladige.it, 23 July 2026. The Province states that no restriction applies this winter (insella.it, 19 August 2026, checked on 22 October 2026).
  • Cortina. The consortium writes « in aggiornamento » on its calendar. A guide that gives a single date claims more than the official source does (dolomiti.it, 6 October 2026, checked on 22 October 2026).
  • Pass. The price changes on 25 December 2026. Guides that show a single price, or the 2025-2026 season price, do not describe this season (kronplatz.com, checked on 22 October 2026).
