On 6 November 2026, air traffic control at Bari-Palese stops from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm; on 14 November, AMTAB buses strike for 24 hours. Flights must run between 7:00 am and 10:00 am and between 6:00 pm and 9:00 pm. On 20 and 21 November, rail and national air traffic control still need confirming.
Checked on against the official sources cited (ENAC, AMTAB, press reports on the ministry’s strike register).
Two strikes hit Bari directly in November 2026, and a third window, 20 and 21 November, is one to watch. On 6 November, air traffic control at the airport stops work for four hours. On 14 November, AMTAB city buses are off for 24 hours. On 20 and 21 November, national rail and national air traffic control add movements to keep an eye on. This guide sets out what the official sources and press reports say as of 23 October 2026, what they don’t say yet, and how to plan a journey day by day.
1. The strike calendar for Bari
The Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport runs the reference strike register (scioperi.mit.gov.it). Its page is dynamic and we could not read it directly, so the entries below come from three press calendars published on 17, 19 and 21 October, cross-checked against the AMTAB website. An entry on the register is a strike that has been declared, not a cancellation of flights.
| Date | Hours | Sector | Unions or declaring parties | Affects Bari | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fri 30 Oct. | 24 hours | Local transport, AMTAB (Bari), national staff strike | USB | Yes | Announced by AMTAB, before November |
| Fri 6 Nov. | 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm (4 hours) | Air, ENAV, Bari-Palese airport | RSA FAST-CONFSAL-AV | Yes, directly | Declared (register) |
| Sat 14 Nov. | All day (24 hours) | Local transport, AMTAB urban network | FILT-CGIL, FIT-CISL, UILT-UIL, UGL Autoferro | Yes, directly | Declared, filed 16 October |
| Fri 20 Nov. (9:00 pm) to Sat 21 Nov. (8:00 pm) | 23 hours | National rail (staff and freight) | CUB Trasporti, SGB Ferrovie | Yes, to be confirmed (Ferrotramviaria and FSE on the 21st, per press relays) | Listed in the register as relayed |
| Fri 20 Nov. | 24 hours (announced) | CGIL general strike, all sectors | CGIL | Indirectly | Announced 17 October, not formally declared |

On 30 October, USB announced on the AMTAB website a 24-hour strike of company staff. It falls before November, but if your stay starts at the end of October, it could hit your first journey. Our article on Italy’s general strike of 30 October covers the national context.
On 13 November, transport strikes are planned in Milan and Venice, with no direct link to Bari. They are covered in our article on those two cities.
2. Friday 6 November: the ENAV strike at Bari-Palese airport

Bari-Palese airport: four hours of air traffic control at a standstill
ENAV staff based at Bari-Palese airport stop work from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, four hours in total. The register describes the strike as « interregional », and the declaration was covered by the press on 17 October. The airport, about 8 km north-west of the city centre, handled 7,977,881 passengers in 2025, up 9.7%, according to Wikipedia, which cites Assaeroporti.
What the rule says
During an air strike, flights must run in two windows: 7:00 am to 10:00 am and 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The 6 November strike falls outside those windows, but that doesn’t mean every flight will leave. The rule sets which flights must fly; what each airline cancels depends on its own schedule. ENAC, « voli garantiti » page, updated 12 October 2026.
- During an air strike, the flights in the 7:00 am to 10:00 am and 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm windows must operate.
- The list of essential flights is published for each strike day. For 6 November, it was not online as of 12 October.
- The precedent of 30 September, when ITA Airways announced about 29% of its flights cancelled that day, is an airline announcement, not a published tally.
If your flight leaves or lands between 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm, check its status with the airline 48 to 72 hours before departure, then again the evening before. A flight scheduled outside this window is not targeted by the strike itself. According to QualiTravel, a strike by ENAV staff does not automatically lead to cancellations.
If your trip is disrupted, a free late afternoon in Bari can be filled differently. This three-hour small-group food tour, in English and Italian, showed a 6:30 pm slot on 6 November when we checked on 23 October 2026. For another date, check availability on the listing before you book.
3. Getting from the airport to the centre during the strikes
Four options come up in the sources. We found no official 2026 fare grid: the prices come from transport sites, operators or the press, and they sometimes disagree. The table lists them as reported, with the impact of each strike on each option.
| Option | Reported price | Reported journey time | Reported frequency | Impact of the November strikes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ferrotramviaria train (stop inside the terminal) | €5 to €5.30 | 15 to 27 min | 34 departures a day (Trenitalia, undated page) | Not affected on the 6th or 14th; affected on the 21st according to relays |
| AMTAB bus, line 16 | €1 (online or by app), €1.50 on board | 40 to 43 min | Timetables vary between sites | Affected on 14 November (24 hours) |
| Taxi (meter) | €25 to €30 to the centre | 20 to 25 min | At the terminal exit | No taxi strike recorded |
| Private fixed-price transfer | From €51.80 (saloon car) | Variable, 60-minute wait included | By booking | Not affected by public strikes |
Source: Trenitalia, ESN Bari, aeroporto.net, Transfeero and Sicurauto (taxi, 2025 article), checked on 23 October 2026.
The train is the most direct option on 6 and 14 November: the sources we checked don’t place it in either day’s strikes. On 21 November, by contrast, relays name Ferrotramviaria and Ferrovie del Sud Est in the day’s strike. The exact scope isn’t settled, so don’t assume the train runs that day.
The AMTAB bus is the cheapest option, but the most fragile on 14 November. Timetables differ between sites, so check line 16 on the operator’s website or app rather than on an aggregator.
No recorded strike touches taxis in Bari in November. The €25 to €30 fare to the centre comes from a 2025 article and a transfer provider: ask the driver for the price, or insist on the meter, before you get in. A fixed-price private transfer, from €51.80 according to one seller, is a commercial offer: compare it with the taxi fare before you book.
4. Saturday 14 November: the AMTAB network for 24 hours

AMTAB urban network: a 24-hour strike
The AMTAB urban network strike lasts 24 hours, from 00:00 to 24:00. It was filed with the ministry on 16 October by FILT-CGIL, FIT-CISL, UILT-UIL and UGL Autoferro. StrikeTracker, a service that relays the register, says the company will publish its « fasce di garanzia » before the strike, the guaranteed minimum-service time bands. On the AMTAB homepage, read on 23 October 2026, no guaranteed time band appears for 14 November; the news pages were not browsed.
Bari has seen other AMTAB stoppages this year: on 10 and 11 July, for a full day as part of a regional USB strike, then on 12 October, for four hours. This count comes from the press, not from an official statistic, but it shows that a bus trip in November needs planning ahead.
Don’t mix up the dates
AMTAB published guaranteed time bands for the national staff strike of 30 October. They apply to that date only: using them for a 14 November journey would be a mistake.
Three things to watch before then:
- The AMTAB notice on guaranteed services for 14 November, not published as of 23 October.
- The ministry register and, for 6 November, the list of guaranteed flights published by ENAC.
- The time of your flight or train, to confirm with the airline or operator 48 to 72 hours before departure.
One more signal comes from the airport. Aeroporti di Puglia issued a precautionary notice (NOTAM) for Bari and Brindisi on 22 October, linked to intermittent lorry-driver blockades, mainly in the South, according to Sky TG24, which reports no shortage. Quintopotere, by contrast, points to limited jet fuel availability at Bari. The two sources disagree: they are presented as such, and the status after 22 October is not known.
6. Your rights if your flight is cancelled because of a strike
Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 covers air passengers facing cancellation, long delay or denied boarding. The principle: if a flight is cancelled, the airline must offer re-routing or a refund, plus care. Your Europe, air passenger rights (checked on 23 October 2026).
Which rule applies depends on where the flight departs, not on where you live. A flight leaving Bari is covered by EU261 whatever the airline, including a flight to London, so the return leg from Bari falls under it. A flight from a UK airport to Bari falls under the UK version of the rules (UK261), which keeps the same core rules after Brexit.
Fixed compensation depends on the cause of the cancellation. A strike by the airline’s own staff is not an extraordinary circumstance. A strike by air traffic control or another third party can be one, according to the EU’s guidance, provided the airline proves the link and that the disruption could not have been avoided. Airlines read this differently: it is a contested position, not settled case law. Read the text of Regulation 261/2004 on EUR-Lex before filing any claim.
Start with the airline. If you disagree, the 2026 Charter of Services of the airport operator refers to ConciliaWeb, the conciliation service of Italy’s transport regulator (ART), for refused boarding, cancellations and long delays. Carta dei Servizi 2026, Aeroporti di Puglia, checked on 23 October 2026.
Costs stay with you, unless the airline makes a goodwill gesture: extra hotel or meals beyond the care it must provide, and non-refundable extras such as a hotel or an activity booking. For those, check your travel insurance wording: strikes are often excluded when they were already known when you bought the policy.
What other guides don’t tell you
Guides that list these strikes often repeat the same calendar, but leave out the points below, which change the traveller’s decision.
- The CGIL general strike is not yet declared. Announced by Maurizio Landini on 17 October, it appears neither in the Il Fatto Vesuviano calendar (17 October) nor in the studenti.it calendar (19 October), and no official time has been found. Source: ministry register, dynamic page read through the press (checked on 23 October 2026).
- There is no guaranteed-flight list for Bari yet. ENAC publishes this list for each strike day. As of 12 October 2026, no list had been published for 6, 21 or 22 November, nor for Bari. Source: ENAC, voli garantiti (checked on 23 October 2026).
- Appeals go through ConciliaWeb. Many guides stop at the airline. The airport’s 2026 charter sends air transport disputes to the ART conciliation service. Source: Carta dei Servizi 2026 (checked on 23 October 2026).
- The protected time bands published by AMTAB don’t cover 14 November. AMTAB published bands for the 30 October strike. On the AMTAB homepage, checked on 23 October, none is published for 14 November (the news pages were not browsed). Source: AMTAB website (checked on 23 October 2026).
- Not all national trains are hit on 20-21 November. The relayed register names CUB Trasporti and SGB Ferrovie for rail and freight; regional relays name Ferrotramviaria and Ferrovie del Sud Est for the 21st. Source: studenti.it, relayed MIT register (checked on 23 October 2026).
Practical info: where to check and how to protect yourself
Four sources are enough to track these strikes until you travel: the ENAC « guaranteed flights » page, AMTAB’s notices page, the ministry register and your airline’s or rail operator’s website. Check them 48 to 72 hours before each journey.
Frequently asked questions about the Bari strikes in November 2026
Will my flight to Bari on 6 November be cancelled?
Not automatically. The ENAV staff strike lasts four hours, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, and flights must run between 7:00 am and 10:00 am and between 6:00 pm and 9:00 pm. No cancellation figure for Bari had been published as of 23 October 2026. The only reference point is the 30 September precedent, when ITA Airways announced about 29% of its flights cancelled: an airline announcement, not a tally. Check your flight with the airline.
Where can I find the list of guaranteed flights for 6 November?
On the ENAC « guaranteed flights » page, which publishes the list for each strike day. As of 12 October 2026, the date the page was last updated, no list had been published for 6 November or for Bari. For a specific flight, ENAC refers you to the airline. The list may appear later, so check the page a few days before you travel.
Will the AMTAB bus run on 14 November 2026?
Don’t count on a normal service. The AMTAB urban network strike lasts 24 hours, from 00:00 to 24:00, on Saturday 14 November. Guaranteed services may run, but the AMTAB homepage, checked on 23 October 2026, shows no guaranteed time band for that day, and the news pages were not browsed. Check the AMTAB website in the days before the strike, and plan another way to reach the airport.
How do I get from the airport to the centre of Bari during these strikes?
The Ferrotramviaria train, about €5 to €5.30 and 15 to 27 minutes according to the sources, is not affected on 6 or 14 November according to the sources checked. The AMTAB bus, line 16 (€1 to €1.50, 40 to 43 minutes), is affected on the 14th. The taxi, about €25 to €30 to the centre according to 2025 sources, is not concerned by any recorded strike.
Am I entitled to compensation if my flight is cancelled because of a strike?
Re-routing or a refund is due when a flight is cancelled, under Regulation (EC) 261/2004. Fixed compensation depends on the cause: a strike by the airline’s own staff is not an extraordinary circumstance, while an air traffic control strike can be one, according to how airlines read the rules. This point is contested. For a flight leaving the UK, the UK rules (UK261) apply instead. Start with the airline, then ConciliaWeb, the ART conciliation service.
Do I need to cancel my trip for 20 to 21 November?
No, not on the calendar alone. Two movements are recorded: the 23-hour rail strike, declared by CUB and SGB, and the national ENAV strike from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm on 21 November. The CGIL general strike, announced for the 20th, had not been formally declared as of 23 October. Check your train 48 to 72 hours before departure.
Can a strike be cancelled at the last minute?
Yes. A strike can be revoked, moved or changed, because a declaration is not a cancellation. In February 2026, air strikes planned for 16 February and 7 March were flagged as at risk by the Commission of Guarantee on 11 February. The minister announced a precettazione order on 13 February, and the unions moved the strike to 26 February. Check your flight 48 to 72 hours before departure.
Is the CGIL holding a general strike on 20 November 2026?
CGIL announced it on 17 October 2026, through Maurizio Landini. As of 23 October, no formal declaration with times had been published in the register as relayed by the press. Calendars that present it as settled are ahead of the sources we checked. Watch the ministry register before changing a journey.
Is there a taxi strike in Bari in November 2026?
No taxi strike was found for November 2026 in the calendars checked on 23 October 2026. A strike can still be declared at any time, so check the ministry register before you travel.
