For winter 2026-2027, Grandvalira in Andorra plans to open on Friday 4 December 2026, subject to weather: that is the date the operator plans. Piau-Engaly shows the same date on an undated page. For most other resorts, the dates are still forecasts or aggregator figures: check the resort before you book.
Checked on against the official sources cited (grandvalira.com, piau-engaly.com, tuneldenvalira.com, ax.ski).
Planning a ski trip to the Pyrenees or Andorra this winter? The calendar is taking shape, but it does not read at a glance. Each resort publishes its own dates: some on their official site, others only on aggregator sites that carry over last season’s dates. This guide separates what the operator plans from what is simply copied from third-party sites, then covers dated passes, the routes from Toulouse, Pau and Barcelona, and the snow. For the wider picture of resort openings, see also our guide to ski resort openings 2026-2027.
1. Andorra: Grandvalira plans for 4 December

Grandvalira, Pal-Arinsal and Ordino Arcalís
Grandvalira covers several valleys: Pas de la Casa, Grau Roig, Soldeu, El Tarter, Canillo and Encamp. The official resort FAQ gives a planned opening on Friday 4 December 2026, « subject to weather conditions ». This is not an opening announcement: it is the date the operator plans at this time.
Highlights
- Planned opening Friday 4 December 2026, planned closing 4 April 2027 (official FAQ).
- Instalment payment for the Nord Pass possible until 9 December 2026 only.
- Pal-Arinsal announced for 5 December, without confirmation from the operator.
Pal-Arinsal (Vallnord) is given as 5 December 2026 by an aggregator (Skiinfo), with no confirmation from the operator on the date checked. Ordino Arcalís has no confirmed date for 2026-2027: its official page only announces a start of season in December, with no exact day, and was not re-read on the date checked. These two areas are smaller than Grandvalira, which matters if you want to ski several days without changing valley.
The Andorran budget also depends on the pass. According to the local press (alto.ad, ordinoarcalis.com), the promotional Andorra Pass sells for €539 for a resident and €1,019 for a non-resident, until 9 December 2026. This is not a price list published by the operator, and the URL of the announcement was not found: compare it with each area’s pass price on the same date. The pass covers Andorran areas depending on the product (Grandvalira, Pal-Arinsal, Ordino Arcalís); the Nord Pass, for its part, only concerns Grandvalira.
2. Station-by-station dates, with their status
The table sorts each date into three levels. « Operator »: the resort or its operator publishes it, sometimes without an update date. « Aggregator »: the date comes from a third-party site, with no confirmation from the resort. « Not confirmed »: no reliable source settles it, or the sources contradict each other.

Source: Grandvalira, opening FAQ, N’PY, opening dates, Skiinfo, ski-nordique.net, checked on 23 October 2026.
When two sources contradict each other, this article does not pick one at random. For Cauterets, the official page gives no winter date in its update of 23 October 2026 at 10:50: the gap between 27 November and 6 December therefore stays open. For Font-Romeu, three of four sources give 4 December, only one gives 28 November. For Gavarnie-Gèdre, the end of season varies between 14 and 21 March 2027.
3. French Pyrenees: openings spread from late November to mid-December

Hautes-Pyrénées and Pyrénées-Atlantiques
French resorts open depending on their altitude and snow cover. Piau-Engaly shows 4 December 2026 on its official page, until 4 April 2027, with no update date. Luz-Ardiden is given as 25 November by N’PY, but the official site could not be consulted: it is the earliest date in the range, and should be read as a forecast.
Highlights
- Piau-Engaly: opening and closing shown as 4 December 2026 to 4 April 2027, on an undated page.
- Cauterets: no winter date on the official site as of 23 October 2026.
- Gourette: pre-season sale at -30% until 15 November 2026.
In the Hautes-Pyrénées, Cauterets, Luz-Ardiden, Peyragudes, the Grand Tourmalet (La Mongie and Barèges) and Saint-Lary form a group of valleys reachable by car and by shuttle. Peyragudes and Gourette are given as 5 December by aggregators, with no confirmation from their own sites. Saint-Lary moves between 4 and 5 December depending on the source.
In Ariège, Ax 3 Domaines publishes a « forecast opening from 5 December to 29 March 2027 » and an early season pass sale from €440, for purchases between 8 September and 5 November 2026. Further east, Font-Romeu-Pyrénées 2000 is in its early season according to three sources, with no date on its official site. Gavarnie-Gèdre, a mid-mountain resort, is given as 19 December 2026 by Skiinfo.
Several small areas have no fixed date, and snowmaking does not work above zero degrees. A Christmas trip to these valleys therefore means booking while accepting that the opening may slip by a few days. A travel guide with no date (Partirou, page not re-read on the date checked) judges December riskier for skiing in Andorra than January and February: that is an opinion, not a snow measurement.
4. Passes and prices: what is dated and what is not
A pass price only makes sense with its season, its deadline and its coverage. This article only publishes 2026-2027 prices checked on 23 October 2026. Earlier prices are quoted as such, and no full-season pass covers all the resorts.
| Product | Area | Price | Year and validity | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Andorra Pass, resident | Andorra | €539 | 2026-2027, valid until 9 Dec 2026 | Promotion (local press, not confirmed by the operator) |
| Andorra Pass, non-resident | Andorra | €1,019 | 2026-2027, valid until 9 Dec 2026 | Promotion (local press, not confirmed by the operator) |
| Season pass | Piau-Engaly | from €410 | 2026-2027, promotion until 15 Nov 2026 | Promotion, official page |
| Season pass | Ax 3 Domaines | from €440; multi-resort €489 | 2026-2027, purchases 8 Sep to 5 Nov 2026 | Early sale, ax.ski page |
| Season pass pre-sale | Gourette | -30% | 2026-2027, until 15 Nov 2026 | Promotion, official page |
| Pay-as-you-go pass | Luz-Ardiden | from €20 per day | Winter 2026-2027, depending on the runs skied | Spanish press announcement (10 Sep 2026) |

For a sense of scale, the adult day rates found without a year, or for the 2025-2026 season, range from €43 at Luz-Ardiden (undated, Hautes-Pyrénées tourism) to €46-52 at high season in Andorra (2025-2026, Andorra Insiders guide, page not re-read). These are past figures, to be confirmed: wait for each resort’s 2026-2027 price list before you budget a week.
The Pyrénées 2 Vallées area (XPL’Aure membership) shows, in a model presented by Ulysse, an annual membership at €25 plus the day rate; this 2026-2027 model is not confirmed by the operators. Three items have no verified figure: group lessons, weekly equipment hire at Pas de la Casa, and children’s lessons. Ask the ski schools and hire shops directly.
5. Getting there: Toulouse, Pau, Barcelona and the Envalira tunnel
Three airports serve the area, and none flies directly to every resort. From Toulouse-Blagnac, the Tisséo shuttle reaches the city centre in about 25 minutes for €9, every 15 minutes, seven days a week. These details come from an airport leaflet dated October 2024, not re-read on the date checked: check the timetables before you travel. No direct shuttle to the resorts has been confirmed for this winter.
From Pau, a shuttle serves 18 Pyrenean resorts. It takes about 35 minutes to Tarbes, 40 to Lourdes and an hour to Gourette and Artouste. Winter timetables are not confirmed.
| Route | Mode | Duration | Cost | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Toulouse-Blagnac to city centre | Tisséo shuttle | about 25 min | €9 | October 2024 leaflet, not re-read, timetable to check |
| Pau airport to Tarbes or Lourdes | Shuttle to the resorts | 35 to 40 min | not priced | Winter timetable not confirmed |
| Pau airport to Gourette and Artouste | Shuttle to the resorts | about 1 h | not priced | Winter timetable not confirmed |
| Barcelona-El Prat to Andorra | Bus | 3 h to 3 h 50 | from €13 | Undated travel guide, not re-read |
| Envalira tunnel, light vehicle | Road | depends on the route | €8.10 | Operator’s rate, application date not published |
Source: Toulouse-Blagnac airport, Pau airport, Barcelona Urbana, Envalira tunnel, checked on 23 October 2026.
From Barcelona, buses to Andorra leave from terminals 1 and 2 at El Prat airport. According to an undated travel guide, the trip takes 3 hours to 3 hours 50, from €13: the page was not re-read on the date checked, so confirm with the operator.
Between France and Andorra, the Envalira pass is the main road. The Envalira tunnel costs €8.10 for a light vehicle according to its operator (class 1: a car or trailer up to 2 m high and 3.5 t). The page gives no application date; local press puts it at 1 January 2026. When the pass closes because of weather, the press says the tunnel is then not charged. This point has not been re-checked with the operator.
At the border, a provisional agreement between the European Union and Andorra, concluded in April 2026, is meant to avoid systematic checks under the EES entry-exit system, in favour of random checks. It still needs to be ratified. No queue reports for winter 2026-2027 have been found so far.
On the Ariège side, the RN-20 was closed at the end of January 2026 after a rockfall near Mérens-les-Vals, and reopened in early March. Its current condition has not been checked. Chain rules depend on the road and the weather: check road conditions on the day you travel.
6. Where to stay: three options depending on the trip
The choice of accommodation depends more on the distance to the lifts than on price. The pages consulted describe three areas, with no verified 2026-2027 rates.
- All in Andorra, for high altitude. Pas de la Casa, at 2,100 m, and Soldeu give direct access to the slopes. Soldeu offers childcare for children aged 2 to 4, according to an undated sales page. Pal-Arinsal suits families and beginners, close to Andorra la Vella.
- All in France, for valley resorts. Saint-Lary and Luchon are linked by car or by valley shuttle. An accommodation in Saint-Lary is listed 400 m from the gondola, with no announcement date.
- Mix the two. A day in Andorra means crossing the border, by the tunnel or the pass. Include that drive in your travel budget, and plan it mid-stay rather than at the start.
For Christmas group lessons, operators stress early booking. That advice is commercial, but it matches the strong demand over Christmas 2025: more than 336,000 ski days were recorded over the period in Andorran resorts, according to Vozpopuli.
7. Snow, climate and avalanche risk

An uncertain season, to follow week by week
Météo-France published an outlook in October 2026 forecasting temperatures above normal for the autumn; its winter outlook is less clear. No official forecast specific to the Pyrenees for 2026-2027 has been found. Projections cited by the press point to possibly above-normal rainfall, but possibly below-normal snow at low and mid altitudes.
Highlights
- As of 23 October 2026, the Andorran bulletin forecasts snow flurries around 2,000 m overnight from 23 to 24 October.
- Snowmaking cannot be produced above zero degrees.
- A 2019 study cited by the press mentions up to 55 fewer ski days a year at low-altitude resorts.
The press reported two fatal accidents in 2026: an off-piste accident at Mourtis on 2 February (one death), and an avalanche near the Pic d’Endron on 4 April (one death). These cases say nothing about the season to come; they are a reminder that off-piste is prepared with the bulletin of the day.
Over the long term, the Pyrenean Observatory of Climate Change projects snow depth halved by 2050, with average maximum temperatures rising by 1.4 to 3.3 °C. Artouste has drawn a clear conclusion: no snowmaking since 2020, and a resort now oriented towards summer.
What other guides don’t tell you
The points below are checked against an open official source. They are missing from the guides consulted, or they contradict them.
- Grandvalira plans to open on 4 December 2026, not the 5th. The official FAQ gives 4 December, subject to weather; aggregators repeat 5 December from last season. Grandvalira, opening FAQ (consulted 23 October 2026).
- The Nord Pass instalment payment ends on 9 December 2026. Guides talk about the price, and rarely about this deadline. Grandvalira, opening conditions (consulted 23 October 2026).
- Pre-sale deadlines differ from one resort to another. Guides say pre-sales closed at the end of June, which holds for Grandvalira. Gourette and Piau-Engaly have offers until 15 November 2026: Gourette and Piau-Engaly (consulted 23 October 2026).
- Cauterets publishes no winter date. The official page, updated 23 October 2026 at 10:50, only mentions the closure of the Cirque du Lys and the bike park. The 27 November and 6 December dates come from aggregators that contradict each other. Cauterets, opening of the slopes (consulted 23 October 2026).
- The Envalira tunnel costs €8.10, with no application date published. The class 1 rate is confirmed by the operator; the 1 January 2026 date that some guides repeat comes from the press. Envalira tunnel (consulted 23 October 2026).
