The Qatar Formula 1 Grand Prix 2026 is going ahead: the race takes place on Sunday 29 November 2026 at 7:00 pm local time, at the Lusail International Circuit. The cheapest official ticket costs QAR 600. According to a press report dated 3 October 2026, the F1 chief executive confirms this.

Checked on against the official sources cited (formula1.com, Visit Qatar, diplomatie.gouv.fr, gov.uk) and the Qatari press.

The Qatar Grand Prix is run at night, under the lights of the Lusail International Circuit, about thirty kilometres north of central Doha. The race weekend runs from Friday 27 to Sunday 29 November 2026. This article answers, in order, the questions a visitor asks: whether the race is still on, tickets, getting to the circuit, where to stay, then Doha away from the circuit. Every price and every timing comes with its source and the date we checked it.

The race is on, but the region remains under watch

According to a press report of a statement by F1 chief executive Stefano Domenicali, dated 3 October 2026, the Qatar (29 November) and Abu Dhabi (6 December) races are due to go ahead as planned. A press report (The Race) relays this statement; we could not read the official F1 statement, which should be monitored until the start.

On safety, official advice counts for more than guidebooks. The French Foreign Ministry maintains a heightened vigilance level, updated on 10 September 2026. It describes a situation as « très instable » (highly unstable), with Iranian strikes that have targeted Qatari territory (diplomatie.gouv.fr, accessed on 12 October 2026). The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) updated its advice for Qatar on 19 August 2026. It warns of the risk of further attacks, escalation, flight cancellations and airspace closures (gov.uk, accessed on 12 October 2026).

What this changes for your decision:

  • We did not read the circuit’s cancellation policy. Read it on tickets.lcsc.qa before you buy.
  • Ask your insurer in writing whether your policy covers a cancellation linked to a conflict. Never treat a generic insurance policy as a guarantee.
  • Follow both official advisories until the day of departure. A status can change within days.

The regional context is covered in our guide Abu Dhabi and Qatar 2026: the luxury boom despite regional instability. If your route stops over in Doha, our article on layovers in Doha and Abu Dhabi covers the airlines. Finally, our April 2026 article on the F1, tennis and golf calendar in the Middle East reported that F1 had dropped the Bahrain and Saudi Arabia rounds: it gives the April status, which predates the October confirmation.

Tickets: QAR 600 to 2,000 for the three-day pass

Grandstand seats at the Lusail International Circuit are sold as three-day passes, Friday to Sunday. Single-day General Admission tickets exist according to the sources we read, but we could not confirm this on the ticketing site: check tickets.lcsc.qa before you buy a three-day pass. The prices below are those the Qatari press reported on 31 August 2026, in Qatari riyals. Euro equivalents are estimates at an indicative rate of 4.13 to 4.22 QAR per €, taken from currency aggregators in September 2026.

The circuit’s own sales pages could not be displayed during our checks: compare prices and availability directly on tickets.lcsc.qa before any payment. Students get 20% off some categories, and visitors aged 60 and over get 25% off the Turn 16 category, according to the same press article.

Hospitality packages (Lusail Hill Lounge, Champions Club, Novikov Doha) do not publish their prices. The press says they are sold in groups of 50 or 100 guests. A reseller, GPDestinations, showed on a page dated 15 February 2026 a Champions Club at US$4,599 and a Paddock Club from US$7,599. These are resale prices, and should be treated as such.

A three-day pass gives access to the Fan Zone, food and drink, post-race concerts, shops, free shuttle buses, free parking and a dedicated taxi area (Qatar Living, September 2026). No 2026 performer was announced in the sources we read on 12 October 2026. In 2025, the line-up featured Seal and Cheb Khaled early in the weekend, and Metallica on Sunday: this is not an announcement for this year.

Indicative budget for one person. General Admission ticket: €142 to €145. Accommodation: from US$129 a night in Lusail, at the rate noted for the Century Marina (see the accommodation section). Ooredoo Visitor SIM of QAR 75, valid for seven days with 6 GB: about €18. Evening transport, meals and activities are not priced: no source gives a confirmed taxi fare.

Official schedule: practice, qualifying and race, Sunday at 7:00 pm local time

The programme published by formula1.com lists only the practice sessions, qualifying and the race. The times below assume the formula1.com times are UTC: this reading is consistent with the race at 4:00 pm UTC, which Visit Qatar confirms as 7:00 pm local time. formula1.com does not show a time zone, so confirm the times on the day.

Qualifying ends at 10:00 pm and the race starts at 7:00 pm. The metro still runs at those hours, but taxi queues can be long, and the metro closes around 1:00 am. On Sunday you leave after dark, in the crowd: plan your return before you leave the stand.

Getting to the circuit and back to Doha in the evening

Lusail lies about thirty kilometres north of central Doha, and roughly 40 kilometres from Hamad International Airport (GPDestinations). Allow at least 40 minutes from the centre, by our estimate, without measured traffic. From Hamad airport, book a taxi, a ride-hailing car or a transfer in advance: no fare is confirmed for race day. The services below are announced, but the exact shuttle timetable and pick-up points had not been published on 12 October 2026.

The evening return is the weak point reported by visitors to the 2024 edition: long queues, a shuttle judged insufficient, and longer walks than expected. Book a taxi or ride-hailing car in advance, and keep a backup plan if the queue is long. A free metro ride for ticket holders is mentioned in a 2024 account: we do not claim it for 2026, as it is not confirmed. Hiring a car is possible, but we do not recommend it for a first trip.

For flights, we found no dated and verified fare for Paris to Doha on 27 to 29 November 2026. Compare fares from your own departure airport when you book.

Where to stay: Lusail or central Doha

Lusail, next to the circuit, removes the evening journey. Central Doha, with West Bay, Msheireb or The Pearl, offers more restaurant and hotel choice, 20 to 30 minutes from the circuit according to a 2025 guide. The prices below are unpinned aggregator snapshots, checked on 12 October 2026 and outside race week: they give an order of magnitude, not a rate for 27 to 29 November.

Ask for a dated quote for the nights of 27 to 29 November before you commit. Readers who attended the 2024 edition stayed either in West Bay, near the Red Line, or at the Centro Capital Rotana, about 800 metres from Bin Mahmoud station. That account, from 2024, tells you how the event is organised, not what it costs.

Formalities: visa, passport and mobile connection

For a French passport holder, the French Foreign Ministry says that no visa is needed for a stay of under 90 days, with a passport valid for more than six months (diplomatie.gouv.fr, accessed on 12 October 2026). The same ministry recommends taking out travel insurance. Readers of other nationalities should check the entry rules for their own passport on their government’s site, as they depend on nationality. We could not check the electronic procedure or the Hayya app on the official Qatari portal: check them before you leave, and be wary of sites that offer to complete the process for you.

On the phone, Ooredoo and Vodafone Qatar offer visitor cards. Buying in a shop or at the airport requires your original passport and an unlocked phone. Third-party eSIMs cost less to buy, but they sometimes run through a local operator with varying restrictions.

Some guides say that WhatsApp, FaceTime or Skype calls are blocked in Qatar, eSIM included, and that a VPN is the only workaround. No official source has confirmed this restriction. If video calls matter to you, check with Ooredoo or Vodafone Qatar before you travel.

Two days in Doha, away from the circuit

Doha is worth two days away from the circuit. In the evening, go between Souq Waqif and the Corniche; in the morning, visit the museums (confirm opening hours on qm.org.qa). If you add the desert, choose Saturday, in the earliest morning slot: Sunday stays reserved for the race.

Doha: the city and the desert in one day

€318 per person on most time slots Time slots on 27, 28 and 29 November Dunes and sandboarding

This day combines a visit to Doha with a desert safari, including pickup. Desert safaris listed on aggregators usually include dunes, sandboarding and a stop at Khor Al Adaid; we have not read the full listing for this combo, so check it before you book. The price checked on Viator on 12 October 2026 for two adults: €318 per person on most time slots (39 checked), and €127 on the 9:00 am slot.

Highlights

  • City and desert in one day, with pickup
  • Time slots checked on all three days of race weekend
  • Rated 4.8 from 83 Viator reviews
Pixidia tip: check your health before you book; the safari’s restrictions are listed on the product page.

Souq Waqif, the Corniche and The Pearl through the evening

Best in the evening Corniche, about 7 km Persian Gulf

Souq Waqif is a traditional market: spices, textiles, handicrafts and souvenirs, but also cafés and restaurants where you can stop for tea. The Corniche follows the Persian Gulf for about 7 kilometres, with views of the skyline and the traditional dhows. The Pearl-Qatar, an artificial island of about 4 km², combines residences, shops and restaurants. One blog gives the souq’s hours (10:00 am to noon, then 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm): we have not checked them, so ask on site.

Highlights

  • An evening atmosphere that suits a night race
  • Skyline views from the promenade
  • West Bay is 20 to 30 minutes from the circuit, according to a 2025 guide
Pixidia tip: bring a jacket for the Corniche in the evening.

Museums: worth a visit, but check the opening hours

The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) and the National Museum of Qatar are among the museums run by Qatar Museums. The MIA houses a collection of Islamic art presented as one of the most complete in the world; the National Museum traces the country’s history. We give no opening hours, prices or opening dates here: the official pages were not accessible during our checks, and the sources we read disagree on some dates. Check qm.org.qa before you visit.

The Msheireb Museums, four restored heritage houses, also have conflicting opening hours across sources. A combined circuit of the three museums is sold by a third-party reseller for QAR 245, with a guide and entry, but it is not available on Fridays, and its price has not been officially verified.

On the ground: conduct, alcohol and photos

The rules below are those set out in travel guides. Check them with the relevant consulate before you travel.

  • Dress. Modest dress is expected in malls, markets, public buildings and museums. Swimwear is for hotels and private beaches.
  • Affection. Avoid public displays of affection.
  • Alcohol. It is served only in licensed hotels, bars and restaurants, never in the street. At the circuit, it is served only in hospitality areas, not in the Fan Zones.
  • Photography. Photography is banned at government buildings and military sites. Never photograph a Qatari woman without her consent, and ask permission before photographing anyone.
  • Friday morning. The city slows down during prayer time, and several shops close.

For night journeys, take a licensed taxi or a ride-hailing car booked in advance; the metro closes around 1:00 am.

What other guides don’t tell you

  • Cancellation terms for the circuit appear in none of the guides we read: we could not verify them, which is why the FAQ answer is cautious.
  • Museum and souq hours vary between sources. We give no unverified figure: confirm on site.
  • The evening return is the weak point reported by visitors in 2024. Nothing confirms that the situation is the same in 2026.

Frequently asked questions about the 2026 Qatar Grand Prix

Is the 2026 Qatar Grand Prix cancelled?

No, as of the 12 October 2026 check. A press report of a statement by the F1 chief executive, dated 3 October 2026, announces that the Qatar and Abu Dhabi races are going ahead. The French and UK travel advisories remain in force: follow them until departure.

What if the race is cancelled?

We did not read the circuit’s refund policy: check it on tickets.lcsc.qa before you buy. One reseller says its tickets are non-refundable, which tells you nothing about the circuit’s rule.

How much does a ticket for the 2026 Qatar Grand Prix cost?

The three-day pass ranges from QAR 600 in General Admission to QAR 2,000 in the Main Grandstand, roughly €142 to €484 at the indicative rate reported by currency aggregators in September 2026. Single-day General Admission tickets exist according to the sources we read, to be checked on tickets.lcsc.qa.

Is there a sprint during the weekend?

No, not in the programme published by formula1.com. A circuit FAQ mentions one on Friday, but we do not treat it as confirmed.

How do I get from central Doha to the Lusail circuit?

The metro (Red Line) serves Lusail, and the three-day pass includes a free shuttle and a dedicated taxi area, with no timetable published on the date we checked. We have not confirmed the nearest station: check qr.com.qa. For the return, book a taxi or ride-hailing car in advance: the metro closes around 1:00 am.

Do I need a visa for Qatar?

Not for stays under 90 days for French passport holders, according to the French Foreign Ministry, with a passport valid for more than six months. We could not check the electronic procedure on the official Qatari portal. Check the rules for your own nationality before you travel.

Where should I stay for the Grand Prix: Lusail or Doha?

Lusail cuts the evening journey. The hotels we checked range from about US$129 to US$222 a night, outside race week. Central Doha offers more choice, 20 to 30 minutes from the circuit according to a 2025 guide. Ask for a dated quote for 27 to 29 November.

What is the weather like in Doha in November?

The most solid reference is the Qatar Meteorology bulletin for November 2025, reported by The Peninsula Qatar: 20 to 28 °C, high humidity, light wind and possible fog on Saturday morning. No 2026 forecast was available seven weeks before the event.

Can you drink alcohol during the Grand Prix?

Not in the Fan Zones: alcohol is served only within hospitality areas, and the legal drinking age is 21 (GPDestinations, accessed on 12 October 2026).
