Whistler Blackcomb is targeting Friday 20 November 2026 for its 2026-27 opening, weather permitting. A Day Pass starts at CAD 97 a day, and the unrestricted adult day ticket is listed at CAD 179. Early-season lifts run from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm.

Checked on against the official sources cited in the article: resort pages for hours and the shuttle, plus extracts and aggregators, clearly labelled.

On Friday 20 November, Whistler Blackcomb’s first lifts could be turning. « Could » because Vail Resorts’ target depends on snow. A Day Pass starts at CAD 97 a day, and the airport shuttle from Vancouver costs CAD 125 per adult in winter. Hours and the shuttle come from official pages checked on 24 October 2026; pass prices, the Epic Pass and conditions on the mountain come from extracts, relayed press releases and aggregators. When a figure comes from an aggregator or an estimate, we say so. To compare with other resorts, see our guide to ski resort opening dates 2026-2027.

1. 20 November: a target date, not a promise

What’s been published for 2026-27

Friday 20 November 2026 (target) Day Pass from CAD 97 Partial opening seen in 2025 (Blackcomb, limited terrain) 2027 closing date not published

On 18 August 2026, Vail Resorts announced Friday 20 November as the target opening date for 2026-27. The announcement, relayed by Placera, says the opening still depends on weather and snow conditions. So the date is a goal, not a commitment: it could slip by a few days if there isn’t enough snow.

Last year played out in two stages. Blackcomb opened on 21 November 2025 with limited terrain, and Whistler Mountain waited until 26 November (Premium Whistler, checked 24 October 2026). Target dates have moved one day earlier from one season to the next: 21 November 2025, then 20 November 2026 (target announced by Vail Resorts, relayed by Denver7, checked 24 October 2026).

The scenario to plan for is a partial opening: last year, the terrain was limited on day one, not the full resort. For the end of the 2025-26 season, SnowStash gives a closing date of 10 May 2026, and OnTheSnow reports beginner runs closing on 7 May. No official date was found. No 2027 closing date had been published as of 24 October 2026.

Highlights

  • A target published by the operator on 18 August 2026, subject to snow.
  • A Day Pass with no annual commitment, more flexible than an Epic Pass for a short trip.
Pixidia tip: if your ticket can’t move, keep in mind that the first days may only cover part of the resort. If you arrive without gear, the card below points to a ski rental whose Viator listing mentions delivery; the exact delivery details still need checking on the listing.
If the opening slips: our research doesn’t document any postponement of the opening or any refund of Day Passes, and we don’t promise a refund. For accommodation, check before booking whether the cancellation policy is flexible: that’s a point to check case by case, not verified.

Availability for this ski rental was checked on the Viator API on 24 October 2026: it can be booked on 27 of the 30 days between 20 November and 19 December 2026. 20, 21 and 22 November didn’t show as open at that check. The price is per adult, based on two adults; check the exact date when you book.

2. Hours: three slots to remember

The timing changes twice early in the season

Opens from 9:00 am Closes 3:30 pm, then 4:00 pm

Whistler Blackcomb’s official site lists three time slots for 2026-27, checked 24 October 2026. The first, from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm, runs until 15 January 2027. From 16 January to 12 February, closing moves to 4:00 pm. From 13 February, hours become 8:30 am to 4:00 pm until the end of the season. A summary that gives only two times misses the middle slot.

On the first day, get there early: the lift queues build up, and the 9:00 am start gives you the shortest wait before the first runs. Lift hours don’t tell you which runs are actually open that day, and that depends on the snow.

Pixidia tip: the time difference with the UK changes the time of your first coffee. The maths is in section 8, with a landing example.

3. Passes: Day Pass, single ticket and Epic Pass

The Day Pass, the most flexible option

Day Pass for 1 to 10 days Up to 65% off

The Whistler Blackcomb Day Pass starts at CAD 97 a day, for 1 to 10 days on Whistler Blackcomb only. The resort advertises savings of up to 65% against the single-day ticket (Tourism Whistler, passes 2026-27). The official place to buy is whistlerblackcomb.com, under « Tickets and passes » (extract read 24 October 2026). We didn’t find the ticket office hours.

An extract from whistler.com also says a Day Pass sold on that site must be paired with accommodation and booked at least 7 days before arrival. That condition wasn’t confirmed on the sales page: check it before you buy.

The Holiday Access option lets you ski during peak periods, which the Epic Local Pass doesn’t. The 2026-27 peak dates aren’t in the extracts we read: check with the resort before you block a February weekend.

At the entry price of CAD 97 a day, three days come to CAD 291 before taxes. This ignores any volume discount, which our sources don’t detail.

Pixidia tip: based on the prices below, the adult 10-day pass (CAD 1,138) works out at CAD 113.80 a day, against CAD 179 for a single-day ticket (extract, checked 24 October 2026). A multi-day pass only pays off if you ski every day you buy.

For the Epic Pass, Vail Resorts’ press release gives a price from USD 1,119 for 2026-27. The lowest price ended on 7 September 2026, so it’s no longer on sale. Vail also announces a 20% discount for ages 13 to 30.

4. New: the Showcase Chair under construction

A four-seat chairlift for the glaciers

A new four-seat chairlift, the Showcase Chair, is set to replace the Showcase T-Bar serving the Horstman and Blackcomb glaciers. According to SnowBrains, its capacity rises from 1,362 to 2,400 skiers per hour. Liftblog announced the project in December 2025, subject to approval (Liftblog). Construction was under way in July 2026 (trade press: Unofficial Networks, 17 July 2026).

The latest progress update we found is dated 17 July 2026: the chairlift was under construction, with no in-service date published. The operator is aiming for winter 2026-27. This only matters if you’re heading for the glaciers; for everyone else, the main lifts are still the starting point.

Pixidia tip: if the Blackcomb glacier is your goal, ask the resort’s information desk which lifts are open on the day you visit. Don’t count on the Showcase Chair until it’s announced as open.

5. From Vancouver airport to Whistler

Mountain road in winter in British Columbia

Two hours on Highway 99

It takes about two hours from Vancouver airport (YVR) to Whistler along Highway 99, also known as the Sea-to-Sky Highway. The three most common options are the Whistler Shuttle, private services such as Skylynx, and a rental car. The operator publishes its shuttle fares on its booking site (Whistler Shuttle).

The Whistler Shuttle costs from CAD 125 per adult, one way, in winter. Before 15 November 2026, the pre-season fare is CAD 106.25. The shuttle’s winter season runs from 26 November 2026 to 11 April 2027, according to the operator. A whistler.com extract gives 4 April 2027: we go with the operator’s date, since it’s the reference.

Pixidia tip: on a first trip, the shuttle saves you from driving a mountain road. If you rent a car, winter tyres become mandatory on some sections (see the next section).

Direct flights from London

Two airlines show up on the London Heathrow to Vancouver non-stop route in our checks. British Airways’ Vancouver page, updated 1 July 2026, lists non-stop departures from Heathrow and Gatwick and describes the route as running year-round (British Airways). An Air Canada schedule tracker shows one daily Heathrow service, based on June 2026 data (eoob.us). Neither confirms the winter 2026-27 timetable: check the dates you need on the airline’s site before you book. From Paris, Air France flew non-stop in winter 2025-26, with five weekly flights rising to one a day in peak periods (Travelweek), but its 2026-27 frequency isn’t confirmed.

6. Car, winter tyres and parking

Winter tyres: a rule to check on the day you leave

From 1 October to 30 April, some British Columbia roads require winter tyres or chains. That’s the provincial government’s general rule (British Columbia government, checked 24 October 2026). The rule covers certain roads; we couldn’t confirm that Highway 99 is among them, or when the requirement ends on that stretch. Check road conditions on DriveBC on the day you leave, and ask your rental company which equipment is included.

Pixidia tip: a car makes sense for a group sharing the costs. For a solo traveller, the shuttle saves you from managing winter gear and parking.

Parking: rates and booking

CAD 2.75 an hour CAD 11 a day (to confirm)

Whistler’s municipal parking went up to CAD 2.75 an hour on 19 January 2026 (RMOW). In the village, Day Lots 4 and 5 cost CAD 11 a day in 2025-26 according to the Whistler Blackcomb guide, with an overnight restriction from 1 November to 31 March, 5:00 pm to 3:00 am. These rates still need confirming for winter 2026-27.

On the Blackcomb side, lots 6 to 8 are at Base II, reached via Glacier Lane. Lot 6 is reservable, lot 7 splits its spaces between reserved carpooling and first come, first served, and lot 8 is first come, first served. The 2026-27 reservation system wasn’t published as of 24 October 2026 (Whistler Blackcomb, access and parking).

Pixidia tip: in late December 2025, fake QR codes imitating PayByPhone signs were spotted on Day Lots 1 to 5. Municipal payment doesn’t use a QR code: don’t scan anything that isn’t on the official sign (RMOW).

7. Accommodation and budget

No official price grid: aggregator benchmarks

No official price grid has been published for 2026-27 accommodation. The only references are prices collected from aggregators, so treat them as indicative. Expedia shows about CAD 524 a night in Whistler Village in January and CAD 557 in February, with no precise check date (Expedia). Expedia says nights are generally cheaper in November and December, without giving a figure.

Four Seasons Whistler offers a sixth night free for stays with eligible dates from 13 November 2026 to 3 April 2027 (Four Seasons Whistler). Read the offer’s conditions on the page before you book.

Accommodation taxes are added on top of the displayed price. Our research cites GST (5%), the provincial sales tax, PST (8%), and the Whistler regional tax, MRDT (3%). Check these rates on gov.bc.ca and the RMOW site before you book.

Pixidia tip: for Christmas week and February weekends, book early: that’s an editorial opinion, not a sourced fact. The cheaper November and December nights aren’t priced in our research.

8. Entry formalities and time difference

Passport and travel documents

Many visitors need no visa, but an eTA before you fly

If your passport is from a visa-exempt country and you fly to Canada, you need an electronic travel authorization (eTA) before you board. Whether your passport qualifies is listed on the official eligibility page. The application is online on Canada.ca and costs CAD 7, which is non-refundable.

An older Canada.ca video from 2017, to be checked against the official page, gives a validity of five years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. Check this on the application page before you pay. A new passport means a new eTA.

Pixidia tip: apply for the eTA before you leave, not at the gate. A traveller without a valid eTA can be refused boarding.

Time difference: 7 hours from London in winter

Whistler is on Pacific time, UTC-7. According to the British Columbia government (page dated 17 September 2026), the province stays on UTC-7 all year round, and the calculation below follows from that. The date that rule takes effect still needs checking. From London, the gap is 7 hours once the UK clocks go back on 25 October, until late March. During British summer time it’s 8 hours. So a 4:00 pm landing in Vancouver is 11:00 pm the same day in London during winter.

Pixidia tip: plan the first day around this gap, especially if your flight lands late. Opening at 9:00 am in Whistler is 4:00 pm in London, and closing at 3:30 pm is 10:30 pm in London: arriving early still helps.

What other guides don’t tell you

Several guides and automatic answers stay vague, or get things wrong, on the points below. Each one links to a source checked on 24 October 2026: the operator, RMOW or trade press, labelled as such.

  • The 4:00 pm closing from 16 January to 12 February. Summaries often give only 9:00 am to 3:30 pm, or 8:30 am for the rest of the season. The official hours page does include the middle slot (whistlerblackcomb.com, checked 24 October 2026).
  • The shuttle changes price before 15 November 2026. The pre-season fare is CAD 106.25 per adult, one way, then CAD 125 in winter. Third-party guides still quote older shared-shuttle ranges or 2025 prices (Whistler Shuttle, checked 24 October 2026).
  • The lowest Epic Pass price has ended. The deadline was 7 September 2026. Several 2026 guides still list it as open (Tourism Whistler, checked 24 October 2026).
  • Municipal parking has been CAD 2.75 an hour since 19 January 2026. Older guides still show CAD 2.50, and the December 2025 warning about fake QR codes is missing from the guides we read (RMOW, checked 24 October 2026).
  • The Showcase Chair has no published in-service date. It was under construction in July 2026. A summary that presents it as an already-open novelty gets ahead of the facts (trade press: Unofficial Networks, 17 July 2026).

Frequently asked questions

What is the Whistler Blackcomb opening date for 2026-27?

The target is Friday 20 November 2026. Vail Resorts published it in a press release on 18 August 2026, noting that the opening depends on weather and snow. No date is guaranteed: in 2025, Blackcomb opened on 21 November with limited terrain, and Whistler Mountain on 26 November (Vail Resorts press release, relayed by Placera).

What are the lift hours at the start of the season?

From the start of the season to 15 January 2027, lifts run from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm. From 16 January to 12 February, closing moves to 4:00 pm, and from 13 February hours are 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. These come from the official page, checked on 24 October 2026 (Whistler Blackcomb). Check them before you go, as hours can change.

How much is a day pass at Whistler Blackcomb?

The Day Pass starts at CAD 97 a day, for 1 to 10 days. An unrestricted adult day ticket is listed at CAD 179 (whistler.com extract, checked 24 October 2026). Taxes are extra. On whistler.com, a Day Pass must be paired with accommodation and booked at least 7 days before arrival, according to an extract read on 24 October 2026: check that condition on the sales page.

How much is the shuttle from Vancouver airport to Whistler?

The Whistler Shuttle costs from CAD 125 per adult, one way, in winter. Before 15 November 2026, the pre-season fare is CAD 106.25. The winter season runs from 26 November 2026 to 11 April 2027, according to the operator (Whistler Shuttle). Unofficial estimates put Skylynx at CAD 30 to 60.

Do I need a visa for Canada?

It depends on your passport. Many visitors don’t need a visa, but if your passport is from a visa-exempt country and you fly in, you need an eTA, which costs CAD 7. Check the eligibility list on the official Canada.ca page before you pay (Canada.ca). An older Canada.ca video from 2017 gives five years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first, but check that on the application page.

Do I need winter tyres to drive to Whistler?

Yes, plan for it. From 1 October to 30 April, some British Columbia roads require winter tyres or chains. The rule covers certain roads; we couldn’t confirm that Highway 99 (Sea-to-Sky) is one of them, or the end date on that stretch. Check road conditions on DriveBC on the day you leave, and ask your rental company which equipment is included (British Columbia government).

Is parking in Whistler paid?

Yes. Municipal parking has cost CAD 2.75 an hour since 19 January 2026 (RMOW). In the village, Day Lots 4 and 5 cost CAD 11 a day in 2025-26 according to the Whistler Blackcomb guide, a rate to confirm for this winter. Blackcomb runs on reservation or first come, first served. Never scan a QR code on a sign: fake codes were spotted at the end of 2025.

When does the resort close in spring?

SnowStash gives an end-of-season date of 10 May 2026, and OnTheSnow reports beginner runs closing on 7 May. No official date was found (SnowStash, OnTheSnow). No 2027 closing date had been published as of 24 October 2026.

Is the Day Pass better value than the Epic Pass for a short visit?

For a few days, the Day Pass is the most flexible comparison: it starts at CAD 97 a day with no commitment, but it’s only valid at Whistler Blackcomb. The Epic Pass, from USD 1,119, had its lowest price end on 7 September 2026 (Vail Resorts press release). Our research can’t give a break-even point without a checked exchange rate: compare the number of ski days you’d buy against the Epic Pass price before you decide.
