Frantoi Aperti in Umbria 2026 runs from Saturday 17 October to Sunday 15 November 2026, five weekends for the 29th edition. Mills open their doors to the public: visits, new oil tastings and sporting or cultural events across a dozen areas. No general admission price is published, and the full programme is still to come.
Checked on against the official sources cited (frantoiaperti.net, Umbria Tourism, Camera di Commercio dell’Umbria).
Every autumn, Umbria opens its olive mills to the public during the harvest. For the 29th edition, the doors stay open from 17 October to 15 November 2026. As of 18 October, 13 events are dated: 5 between 17 and 18 October, 8 between 30 October and 15 November. The full programme is not published; the announced dates should be reconfirmed on frantoiaperti.net.
1. Five weekends, 17 October to 15 November
Frantoi Aperti is run by the Associazione Strada dell’Olio e.v.o. DOP Umbria, based in Trevi. The 2026 dates are confirmed by the organiser on frantoiaperti.net, by Umbria Tourism, and by the Camera di Commercio dell’Umbria, whose page was updated on 12 October 2026. This is the 29th edition: the numbering of past editions, 27th in 2024 and 28th in 2025, confirms it.
The table below lists the dated events known at the time of checking. Apart from the detailed Frantoio Berti timetable (see below), none of the sources we read publishes opening hours by mill: each mill has to confirm its own.

2. The new oil route, weekend by weekend
The calendar runs in four parts, from the opening weekend to the end of the window. Each covers events in different areas and of different kinds.
Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October: the opening
The festival opens on Saturday 17 October in Montefalco, with an opening concert according to the programme published on 2 October by italiadagustare.it. Sunday 18 October is the sporting day: the Grande Pedalata, a bike ride from Spoleto along the Fascia Olivata, the Frantoi Aperti Trail Run, whose distance is not published, and a Moto Giro starting from Foligno. It is also the first day of the Festa dei Frantoi e dei Castelli in Campello sul Clitunno, with a free shuttle to the mills Marfuga, Eredi Gradassi and Carletti, according to FamilyGO (article of 16 September 2026).
30 October to 1 November: the densest stretch
This is the highest concentration of dated events. In Giano dell’Umbria, the food route « Appuntamento col gusto alla Mangiaunta » offers free tastings in the mills, according to SiViaggia (October 2026). In Gualdo Cattaneo, « Sapere di pane, sapore di olio » takes place at the Rocca Sonora from 31 October to 1 November, with new oil and bread tastings. On 1 November, the Evo&Art of the Colli Martani, a circuit that combines olive culture and heritage, and a Moto Giro starting from Magione round off the programme.
Sunday 8 November: the Evo&Art of Colli Assisi-Spoleto
8 November is the Evo&Art day for the Colli Assisi-Spoleto. The Festa dei Frantoi returns to Campello, with the same free shuttle, and the Pissignano trek is scheduled the same day, according to FamilyGO. Evo&Art 2026 is presented as a route along the paths of Saint Francis, marking the 800th anniversary of his death (Umbria Tourism, Camcom).
Sunday 15 November: the last weekend
The final weekend brings the Evo&Art of the Colli Amerini and a Moto Giro starting from Amelia. It is also the last day of the official window. If you can only come for one weekend, pick 1 November for the most events, or 8 November for the Evo&Art, the shuttle and the trek together.
3. The Fascia Olivata, between Assisi and Spoleto

The olive-growing heart of the route
Between Assisi and Spoleto stretches a band of olive trees that the organiser and the regional press call the Fascia Olivata. It is the backdrop for the Grande Pedalata on 18 October and the Evo&Art circuit on 8 November. Assisi, one of the towns listed by the organiser, adds its medieval and Franciscan heritage: a visit to a town of this importance pairs well with a day at the mills. The FAO ranking of this landscape, often quoted, is not confirmed by any official source as of the checking date, so we do not repeat it.
Highlights
- The Grande Pedalata, starting from Spoleto on 18 October, through the Fascia Olivata (italiadagustare.it).
- The Evo&Art of Colli Assisi-Spoleto, on 8 November (italiadagustare.it, 2 October 2026).
- Assisi, served by the station on the Foligno-Terontola line (to be confirmed on trenitalia.com), with timetables to check before you leave.
4. New oil and DOP oil: two different things

What you taste during the visit
New oil, in Italian olio nuovo, is the first oil of the pressing season. Pressed at harvest, it is often green and fruity, and it loses stability over time. Mills open to the public let you taste it during the harvest season.
DOP Umbria, meanwhile, is a protected designation of origin: it governs production within a geographic area and under a specification. The same oil can be both new and DOP. At a mill, the simplest thing is to ask which harvest the oil you are tasting comes from and whether it carries the designation.
Highlights
- Taste new oil with bread, as offered by « Sapere di pane, sapore di olio » in Gualdo Cattaneo on 31 October and 1 November.
- Ask which harvest the oil comes from and whether it is DOP.
- Check on site whether oil can be bought: no source we read describes a sales policy.
5. Choosing your mill: families, curious visitors and food and wine lovers
The organiser lists eight mills on its page: Bartolomei (Montecchio), Carletti (Campello sul Clitunno), Palombaro (Magione), Petesse and Clarici (Foligno), Pozzuolese (Castiglione del Lago), Berti and Caporali (Perugia). The « Vedi tutti » list is not expanded, and the total number of participating mills is not published. The Frantoio Berti timetable, in Olmo di Perugia, is currently the only detailed one. The Bartolomei mill, in Montecchio, is listed by the organiser; according to GreenMe, it received the « Turismo dell’Olio » mention from the Ercole Olivario competition in April 2026, to be cross-checked on ercoleolivario.it.

Source: FamilyGO, article of 16 September 2026, checked on 18 October 2026. Price not published. Booking: contact the mill in advance.
For families, two formats combine. Olive picking followed by a guided visit, on Sundays at 3 pm, is for ages 4 to 12 according to FamilyGO. The all-visitors tour on Saturdays at 4 pm includes a tasting. The picnic in the groves, set for 1 pm on Sundays, still needs confirming with the mill.
For food lovers, the tastings at Giano and Gualdo Cattaneo, both on the weekend of 31 October to 1 November, are the events closest to the table. For sporty visitors, Sunday 18 October brings together the Trail Run, the Grande Pedalata and the Moto Giro from Foligno.
6. Budget: what is free, what is not, what is still unknown
No official source publishes a price for Frantoi Aperti 2026. So we are not offering a daily budget: an unsourced figure would be no use for your planning. The table separates what is announced, what is confirmed and what you still need to ask.
| Item | What we know | Status | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Visit to a mill on the list | No price published for 2026 | Unknown | Umbria Tourism; frantoiaperti.net |
| Tastings at the Mangiaunta, Giano (30 Oct. to 1 Nov.) | Announced as free | Announced | SiViaggia, October 2026 |
| Festa dei Frantoi shuttle, Campello (18 Oct. and 8 Nov.) | Free to the Marfuga, Eredi Gradassi and Carletti mills | Confirmed | FamilyGO, 16 Sept 2026 |
| Evo&Art circuit shuttles | Announced, free status not stated | Not stated | italiadagustare.it, 2 Oct 2026 |
| Children’s timetable, Frantoio Berti | Price not published; book with the mill | Unknown | FamilyGO, 16 Sept 2026 |
| Accommodation | Starting prices for ad slots (from €144 a night, Valle di Assisi, 2 adults and 1 child): not the event’s rate | Outside the event | FamilyGO, 16 Sept 2026 |
| Train to Assisi | Station on the Foligno-Terontola line; fares not checked | To check | trenitalia.com |
Source: organisers’ websites and the press cited in the table, checked on 18 October 2026. Accommodation prices are ad slots quoted when FamilyGO was published, unrelated to the event.
The only free items published are therefore the Campello shuttle (FamilyGO) and the announced Mangiaunta tastings (SiViaggia). Transport is the least known cost: with no timetables published for most mills, allow extra time and don’t book a return train too tight.
7. Getting there without a car, and choosing your day
For mills outside the town centres, such as those at Campello, Magione or Amelia, no source we read describes a public transport link, so a car is the option to check first. For Assisi, the station is on the Foligno-Terontola line, which passes through Spello: connections and fares should be checked on trenitalia.com before you book. Perugia is served by San Francesco d’Assisi airport, linked to the city by a rail shuttle, with no confirmed fare here.
The olive oil train, which ran between the mills on Sundays in October and November 2025, has no confirmed 2026 timetable. Don’t plan around an old article: our Oleotourism 2026 guide wrongly ties it to the festival, as noted further down.
One date to note: clocks go back in Italy and the UK on Sunday 25 October 2026, and train and visit timetables change from that weekend. For the rest of a November trip to Umbria, our Eurochocolate 2026 guide covers the chocolate festival held over the same period.
8. A sample two-day itinerary
The weekend of 31 October and 1 November brings the most events, spread across Gualdo Cattaneo, Giano dell’Umbria and the Colli Martani. Here is a possible plan. It includes no mill timetables, since the mills on the list publish none: each slot still needs confirming.
- Saturday 31 October, Gualdo Cattaneo: « Sapere di pane, sapore di olio » at the Rocca Sonora, to taste new oil with bread (SiViaggia).
- Saturday 31 October or Sunday 1 November, Giano dell’Umbria: the Mangiaunta food route, with free tastings in the mills according to SiViaggia.
- Sunday 1 November, Colli Martani: the Evo&Art of the day, or the Moto Giro starting from Magione if you come by motorbike.
- Optional, one mill from the list: call the day before to confirm opening and visit time.
This plan assumes the announced dates hold. Check each event on frantoiaperti.net the day before you go, and keep Sunday 8 November as a backup if the full programme changes things.
What other guides don’t tell you
The six facts below, all sourced, fill gaps common to the guides we read on this festival.
- The 29th edition, not the 28th. The numbering comes from the organiser: the XXIX edizione takes place in 2026, after the 28th in 2025 and the 27th in 2024. frantoiaperti.net (checked 18 October 2026).
- The window has dates. From 17 October to 15 November 2026, five weekends. A calendar without precise dates is no use for planning a weekend. Umbria Tourism (checked 18 October 2026).
- The Evo&Art has a date for each area. 1 November for the Colli Martani, 8 November for the Colli Assisi-Spoleto and 15 November for the Colli Amerini. None of the guides we read makes this link. italiadagustare.it (checked 18 October 2026).
- The Festa dei Frantoi in Campello has a free shuttle. It runs on 18 October and 8 November 2026, and this point is missing from the guides we read. FamilyGO (checked 18 October 2026).
- No olive oil train is confirmed for 2026. The train described by Olive Oil Times concerns the 2025 edition, on Sundays 19 and 26 October and 2 and 16 November 2025. The Espresso Assisi train is a separate offer. Olive Oil Times (checked 18 October 2026).
- The full programme is not out yet. The organiser writes « A breve il programma completo » (the full programme is coming soon). A page showing timetables for each mill goes beyond the official sources we read: check the official site. frantoiaperti.net (checked 18 October 2026).

What are the dates of Frantoi Aperti in Umbria in 2026?
Frantoi Aperti 2026 runs from Saturday 17 October to Sunday 15 November 2026, five weekends. It is the 29th edition, organised by the Associazione Strada dell’Olio e.v.o. DOP Umbria. The dates are confirmed by the organiser and by Umbria Tourism. The detailed events, compiled from the regional press (italiadagustare.it, 2 October 2026), are in the table in the first section. frantoiaperti.net gives the window and the organiser, but no activity dates.
How many mills take part in 2026?
The total number of participating mills for 2026 is not published as of the checking date. The organiser’s page shows eight mills, in Montecchio, Campello sul Clitunno, Magione, Foligno, Castiglione del Lago and Perugia, with a « Vedi tutti » list that is not expanded. For the full list, check the official site before you go.
Do you need to book to visit a mill?
No general booking is announced for 2026. For the Frantoio Berti, in Olmo di Perugia, contact the mill in advance, especially for olive picking and visits for ages 4 to 12. For other mills, calling ahead is the safest rule, since the sources do not say which sites take groups (FamilyGO).
Are the shuttles free?
Yes for the Festa dei Frantoi in Campello sul Clitunno, on 18 October and 8 November 2026: the shuttle links the town centre with the Marfuga, Eredi Gradassi and Carletti mills, at no charge, according to FamilyGO. For the Evo&Art circuits, a shuttle is announced, but whether it is free is not stated (italiadagustare.it). So don’t assume the whole festival is free to get around.
Which mills can you visit with children?
The Frantoio Berti, in Olmo di Perugia, is the only mill with a detailed 2026 timetable. It offers olive picking and guided visits for ages 4 to 12 on Sundays at 3 pm, and all-visitors tours with tasting on Saturdays at 4 pm. On 8 November, a children’s trek is scheduled at Pissignano, near Campello (FamilyGO). Visit prices are not published.
Which weekend should you pick for sport or motorbiking?
18 October brings the Trail Run, the Grande Pedalata from Spoleto and a Moto Giro from Foligno. The other Moto Giro routes start from Magione on 1 November and from Amelia on 15 November. The Trail Run distance and the Moto Giro routes are not published yet: check the organiser’s site before you sign up (italiadagustare.it, 2 October 2026).
What is the difference between new oil and DOP Umbria oil?
New oil, or olio nuovo, is the first oil of the pressing season. DOP Umbria is a protected designation of origin that governs production within an area and under a specification. The same oil can be both new and DOP. For the details of the DOP specification, check the official text before quoting it.
How much does a visit cost?
No price is published for the 2026 edition, by the organiser or by Umbria Tourism. The Mangiaunta tastings in Giano are announced as free, and the Campello shuttle is free. For paid visits, such as the Frantoio Berti timetable, the price depends on the mill: ask when you book. Accommodation and transport are extra and should be compared separately.
Is there an olive oil train in 2026?
No olive oil train is confirmed for 2026. Olive Oil Times described a tourist train from Rome to Arezzo during the 2025 edition, on Sundays in October and November, with stops in Umbria at Terni, Spoleto, Foligno, Spello, Assisi and Perugia. Nothing is announced for 2026 as of the checking date, so don’t plan a trip on that alone (Olive Oil Times).
